Title: Hogs vs. Pacific - Game Thread
Post by: Doc Hogaday on Nov 18, 2024, 04:32 PM
Tonight @ 7:00 on ESPN+/SECN+.

A brief search of their cheerleaders revealed nothing promising.

Here's to an offensive explosion where we score more than 5 points in the first 5 minutes.

Speaking of the Sanchize, this FB memory popped up today. I would add that we didn't play very hard much longer, but c'mon...we were coming off Pelphrey for reference.

I believe Alandise Harris gave us the business this night.

. That's why I quit betting long ago. Sometimes you think it's fixed, but really it's just scary how close a lot of these lines come so close to pushing the line. Bottom line, the average person just loses.

Yeah, I understand.  That's why I won't play blackjack.  Those dealers can deal hands faster than I can think.

I do like craps, but after I lose 3-400 bucks, I am done.  I also like Mississippi Stud.  Takes no talent at all, and moves a lot slower than blackjack.

I really like this team. They get bored at times and go flat, but Cal kept the rotations moving and that really helped, imo. He couldve reached down the bench a bit further, but I think he wanted to gas our guys and push the 7.  Use the injuries as a challenge.

Same. The talent is there. I am a little worried about Aidoo. He didn't practice the day I was there in September. That's 2 months he's been out/limited. To make it far I think he HAS to be healthy. Big Z is gonna be that player that you know what he's gonna give you first 5 mins he is in. You can't trust him to be the guy inside.

I really like Billy Richmond III...but he's probably a year away from being a "star". I think he's gonna grow more into that body and become a nice 3 and D type guy. Nice seeing him wearing that #24 it suites him.

Looking at that roster with 2 or 3 guys out we are really super thin.

Some blackjack dealers will offer advice, while others never open their mouth. When they swap out dealers and I get one of those quiet ones, I'm done.
A couple years ago Caesars had a few tables out of the main area where they'd have basically "learning" tables. It was great to have my wife learn slowly while getting instruction without being intimidated by a faster dealer. Still lost but it was more fun when she could play.

Fland has dreads and that's about where the similarities end.

I haven't nailed down if or who he reminds me of yet. He's not exactly Lee Mayberry but if Lee played today in this style he'd would probably look a lot more free style instead of a steady silent assassin type...

We really haven't had a guy like Boogy Fland or at least not in many years. We've had some good guards some even great but as dynamic as Fland can be idk..I think he probably projects more so as a John Wall or Gilbert Arenas type guy...

Supposedly people are buying up the tickets and trying to scalp on prices and only go to the games they want to attend.

Mostly I think it's the economy but probably also is a biproduct of the NIL/portal shit. It is going to be harder for fans to get emotionally invested in a team that's only there for a pay day. Any narrative of the innocence of college athletics has been removed.

There is naturally still a lot of built-in ambivalence about Cal in the fan base. You're not going to bring in the coach of your hated rival, who many hate personally also, and have everybody be immediately on board. Some will be "he's our asshole now" but just as many will be reluctant, or in wait and see mode.

Also, as mentioned above, the entirely new team of players hasn't created any bonds with the fans. How could it? The only returning player is Brazile, who most people didn't love anyway.

The only thing that has shown well so far is beating the #1 team in an exhibition. Wait, didn't we do that last year? How did that turn out?

I think a majority of the fan base is in Show Me mode before deciding to turn out.

I tried selling lower level seats for below face value, no takers. Then tried giving them away, no takers. I did find someone to give them to for last night's game.

We haven't been able to make it up for basketball this year due to travel but I've tried getting my tickets to others. I'll be there this Friday and next Monday.

People know it's basketball season.
he promoted the games and got the students involved for sure. as for the roster excuse, roster turnover has been going on for years. and nil has been around for a minute so if that's truly an issue for some, then why even bother following any sport at all.

apparently the crowds the last two games have been pelphrey level.

We are ranked in the top 20. As you mentioned we best a tpp 10 team in an exhibition and lost by 5 on a neutral court to another very good team. Ehat more do we have to prove to get people that BOUGHT tickets to show up.

We are a backwards thinking fanbase. There is zero reason not to be excited about this season but the fans need to see more? Also us. I'm not gonna give you NIL money to get better players for football until you win more games with less talent.

I agree last years stank probably hasn't completely worn off Also,no returning players to really speak of(besides Brazil's and he was part of the stank),no Arkansas players and it's just bit early. Not to mention, we've played two Wednesday home games and one Monday, against low tier opponents

I'm curious what percentage of season ticket holders are from outside of NWA/Fort Smith (or about an hour's drive).

I can't fault anyone for not driving up from LR or beyond to watch us play Pacific or Troy, especially when it's available via streaming.

My point is, are there enough ticket holders and willing single game purchasers in the immediate area to fill it up for a weak midweek opponent?

They used to do this for football and basketball.  You could send in your tickets and they would give you credit towards your next year's donation.  I guess the partnership with SeatGeek negates the desire to give away donation credit.

Since NWA can't represent, we should move the early, non-conf, mid-week games to LR.

Of the 15 players on the roster, only one has Arkansas ties; Lawson Blake.  He doesn't play.  The general fan doesn't have a single connection to the team beyond the razorback on the jersey.

I wonder if that hurts or if it doesn't matter at all.

I wonder what the response would be if "they" started blacking out the broadcast in a team's home market.  Wonder if that would help attendance or just piss everyone off.

I can't believe how many tickets are left for the Jimmy V classic. I figured that would sell out the day the tickets went on sale. Especially with all 4 teams buying the same tickets.

This is where I am.  I enjoyed watching the same guys for a few years in a row and seeing each player improve over time.  Now, every year, it's like the beginning of Major League, "Who are these fucking guys?"

Unfortunately, football is moving in that direction too.

Someone please explain to me why tickets for a Friday night game against an in-state opponent are $30 upper deck and $55 lower end zone, while a Monday game against a lesser opponent from across the country sells for $40 and $75 for the same seats.

I do feel like we have this topic come up every year, regardless of the team. Maybe pushing the ticket giveaway is the best thing. I can see season ticket holders not wanting to go to every single game(especially the low tier non con)and just go to the big ones. There's a lot less fortunate that will struggle just to purchase a tickets and concessions for a family of four or heck even two. I know everyone would like to recoup something out of their tickets, but it sounds like that's not happening enough. Idk, maybe the free tickets are there and still not getting used?

How are tickets being sold if the game is sold out?

I got two free tickets on Nobville and a buddy had an extra ticket so I took myself and my two oldest sons to the game the other night.

Parked for free across from the football indoor facility. To think I'd pay $40 per ticket to watch us play Maryland Eastern Shore? Lmfao.

I'm assuming these are turnbacks.  Can't think of any other explanation that makes sense.

If they're season tickets I might have bought those lower levels if they had asked.

I had an appointment to select season tickets, just like last year.  About a day and a half ahead of my appointment I received notice that all tickets were sold.  I wouldn't assume they would withhold tickets if there were prospective buyers willing to take the entire season package.

Bingo shitty teams, shitty times + mediocre showings by the home team. If these new kids were hitting dingers instead of clanking rims you'd have some more butts in the seats even on the slow days.

The fan experience sucks.

The seats are too small, Jon Williams and track girl are constantly yelling into over modulated  microphones at every timeout with some promotion or sponsorship thing, the band never plays and DJ music is ear splitting loud.
People constantly going to and from seats while the ball is in play.

It will only get worse with the new seating plan. much like the post-game traffic plan shuts down half of razorback road (2 lanes just empty) instead of using all 4 lanes. it should not take over 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot after a game but it does. I don't know how people tolerate it for football.

I never understood the game atmosphere angle for a place like Arkansas.

The stadium would sell out with good basketball, pleasant looking cheerleaders, and a pep band that played the right music at the right time.

Somewhere in the mid 2000s, as a response to or in conjunction with the NBA it seems, "they" decided loud, obnoxious and distracting attractions was what the fans needed.

Did fans really ask for DJs and laser shows?

I think the takeaway should be the university and the season ticket holders need to find a more effective way to get unused tickets into the hands of people that would like to attend. Maybe it is already in place and people just don't want to go and still spend and money on parking and concessions even with the free tickets or the aforementioned drive from an hour plus away or just general apathy about the opponent/ level of team play during the week. I know when I was a kid in LR, I'd have given my left nut to go watch the hogs play ball with Nolan's teams. Didn't get to do that until I was a student.
