Title: UALR Game Thread
Post by: Show-Me Hog on Nov 22, 2024, 07:33 PM
Canaan Sandy just walked by me as I am standing in the concourse, stopped and tapped me on the chest and said Go Hogs.

No shit that just happened. Pants normally pressed.

Good sign or bad?

I don't know what to think about Davis. He looks awful. Is this what $1mm gets you?

Hopefully it's just because he's recovering from a wrist injury.

UALR looks like my intramural team trying to handle the ball against the Hogs defense.

It's still bothering him. He's routinely shaking it in warm ups.

We are so hectic and aggressive on defense that it's very disruptive. But when we don't disrupt or steal, it leaves someone open.

It's like blitzing every down on defense. It all depends on if you get home or not.

Starting to shoot it better. Since the 2nd half of Baylor we're shooting 42% from 3.

We have a switch to turn it up on defense. This team can defend.

Yeah, not a criticism, just an observation. We disrupt a LOT and it's a good trade off for the open shots.

If you pass to the big guy you have to pass it high.  Anything below the shoulders he's gonna lose the hand battle.

Davis has been underwhelming to say the least. I understand that he was hurt but he's healthy enough to play now. If he doesn't turn it on and live up to the hype this team won't be anywhere close to what we hoped/expected.

They really worked with him in the off season on his form. I think he's going thru some adjustments to his mechanics.

he averaged over 20pts on one of the overtime elite teams and tore it up in the all star games. puzzling why he isn't scoring more.

Also that hectic defensive style takes a tremendous amount of energy. Which is why it is far more effective for the first 10 minutes of a game, than later.

Looks like based on Karuletwa in street clothes that leaves Chavis, Sanchez, Kelly, and Kareem Watkins (walkon). Not exactly many options.

Yet somehow the player of the game in the Sonic Post-Game Show was.....DJ Wagner? I was there and it wasn't even close, Thiero was the player of the game.

It's like getting to choose a Kardashian and you pass over Kim and Kourtney for Khloe.

This probably goes without saying but this team would be pretty bad without #3. After seeing the comparisons to Draymond Green I can go with that he's a glue guy for sure.

Once we mesh with Adoo, Brazile, and Theiro on the floor this team is going to look much different. It could look like a pretty good G-league team. I think Richmond III is going to grow into his frame a lot more, I'm really hoping we get a couple two or three years with him. He and Knox to me are not 1 and done types. Wagner I could see being here a couple years...he's going to get better. I'm not in love with his game but I think there's something there that we haven't seen. Davis seems uninvolved in the offense with this team...he's probably the oldest dude on the team but just really looks like he's going thru the motions. There is enough talent on the team to overcome that but at some point you gotta figure we're going to need some big performances out of him. Perhaps he's just not used to playing with so much talent around him and he's taking a back seat. I'd bet he had the ball in his hand a lot more at FAU or wherever he came from.

Davis would look at lot more involved if he made shots.

He is shooting 40% from the field and 21% from three.

Like Big Z, I don't know what he does well at this point.

He's been the biggest disappointment in the new year.  "Best player out of the portal" who can't consistently knock down an open three or finish on his drives to the basket.

He also seems to get lost on D at times.  I'm unsure how his wrist injury bothers his ability to move his feet and be in the right spot on D.

That makes more sense. Last game he also mentioned that they tweaked Nelly's shot as well to have more arc on it. Not sure I'd mess with a guy who shot it as well as he did last year.
