Title: Ole Miss game thread
Post by: aaron on Jan 08, 2025, 09:11 AM
From the 2nd row of The Trough at BWA, I once told Keith Carter he looked like a faggort for his socks during warmups. Hey, it was the 90's and wasn't too frowned upon back then. I apologize to any faggorts reading this, but not to Keith Carte. frick him.

I'm in Little Rock for a couple of days and looking for a place to get some food, beers, and watch the game tonight. Any suggestions?  Any of you degens going to be anywhere watching the game?  Preferably somewhere I won't get stabbed?

I'll be watching from home (diet + dry January), but if you're staying out west Walk-Ons on Chenal is usually where we go when we watch games out.

If you're looking for a little better option for food let me know what part of town you're staying in and I'll send some recs.

They used to have a decent sports bar inside the Embassy, but I haven't been there in years.

I'd invite you over to watch with us, but the boss is going to be a basket case since we just put her baby on a plane for Italy.  I wouldn't wish that on an enemy, much less someone we like.

We need to win this by 8-10 points for me to feel better about the direction of the season.

Like a 84-71 win would do wonders for my mental health.

We should be able to get to the line a lot tonight. Ole Miss is aggressive on defense and grabs a lot.

Title: Re: Ole Miss game thread
Post by: Doc Hogaday on Jan 08, 2025, 06:53 PM
Help defense has been atrocious.

On offense, getting too deep in the shot clock too often and having to take bad shots.

Love Thiero's motor. Wish he woulda made that dunk to get the crowd into it.
Title: Re: Ole Miss game thread
Post by: animal on Jan 08, 2025, 06:57 PM
Our crowds this season at least on tv seem rather meh. People are there but they are just kind of emotionally checked out on this team. I think everyone's waiting for that moment where Cal becomes "one of us" and it just hasn't happened.

Title: Re: Ole Miss game thread
Post by: bogeyfree on Jan 08, 2025, 07:00 PM
Dead crowd.  Dead team.  No post presence at all, although we never even try to exploit a mismatch on a switch.  No structure on defense, we get beat off the dribble a LOT with no help.  Crazy to watch this team.

Agreed. It's like watching a bunch of strangers in razorback gear and nobody gives a shit. Players or the fans. They be getting paid regardless.

It's over.

This team is cooked.

Pitiful effort.  Pitiful.  Just giving up lay up after lay up.  Giving up long home run passes after time outs that the coach didn't even call.  I've never seen a team give up so many open shots.

There's not an ounce of fight in this shit team.

The problems on this team can't be fixed this year.

Bad roster construction.  Bad coaching. Even worse effort.

This is true. They've priced out the true Hog fans in BWA and the rich old fuckers that sit in the good seats don't give a shit. Our vaunted home court advantage is gone.

Combine that with the fact that the players don't really give a shit either and this what you get. Outside of Thiero and sometimes Wagner, this team has no fire.

Cal needs to put together a much better team next year. Preferably with more than one true low post player. We'll get abused all season in the paint. It's gonna be a long SEC season.

Quote from: razor5396 on Jan 08, 2025, 08:17 PMIt finally dawned on me. We aren't an athletic program any more. We are an entertainment brand made to amuse the masses that don't know any better than "Yay, I get to go Woo Pig Soiee!" All the people that cared about winning are either dead or posting on woopig, and I dont know which is worse.

Nothing will make you realize this more than going to the games and having to endure that retard Jon Williams and listen to people sing along to "Dixieland Delight" while we're getting our asses kicked on the field/court.

This team hasn't improved at all from the first game. I think Wagner might care but he's not a great player, Thiero is a fucking monster and plays his ass off, Boogie is a future NBA player. Everyone else sucks and doesn't seem to give a shit.

We were at the game.  The team played with zero energy.  There was no discernible offense.  And we never played with any intensity, even when we were behind with under 4 minutes left.

Really disappointed at the lack of effort.

Life is really better without Razorback sports.  Despite loving Arkansas and my wallet being a lot better off, part of me was dissatisfied when my daughter told me she had chosen Fayetteville over TCU.  I wanted to have an excuse for root for another team and I wanted her to break the curse.

I think a smaller factor is the AAU effect.

By the time these players get to Div 1 college basketball they have already played literally hundreds of games against fair to good competition. Tonight was just another game for them.

Winning and losing are just part of playing a basketball game in their experience. There's no urgency to play hard, no motivation to take it all that seriously because, well, there will be hundreds more games to play.

It's competition without passion. (And it ain't changing any time soon)

Sure seemed that way at the time. Nothing since then has proven otherwise. Sure, Muss had a few exceptional years but the fan base was rewarded by increased prices and no improvement to the arena atmosphere apart from the actual game.

They get the revenues from the fan base when teams are mediocre just as much as they do when we're actually managing to be really good.

There is a stark difference watching our crowds look bored and only there for the dunks and getting that shit up on Instagrammer vs many other venues where the crowd is engaged and it's loud as fuck. Do we even have a student section anymore?

I'm not entirely blaming the crowd necessarily but damn last night there was zero energy and of course the players are going to tighten up.

I'll add the stat lines for our big guys is horrendous, Brazil gave effort but rarely gets the ball in a scoring position. Aidoo was a no-show. Big Z is a Big Zero. So that leaves Thiero battling grown ass men in this league. But Fland got his 20 shots up.

Anyway imma head out...think I'm done giving a shit.

Post by: animal on Jan 10, 2025, 04:30 PM
We are playing 9 guys fairly regular minutes a couple of those guys come off the floor fairly quickly if they aren't producing. The big pitch was that he was going to play like 6 or 7 guys max implying that we're gonna run G-league/NBA talent as starters in big minutes and that's still kinda true though I'm not sold on Davis or Wagner being legit pros. The remainder of the roster is basically guys that really don't belong in the SEC. Guys that I'm not sure will ever be "SEC" players. Chavis was fairly well regarded as a high major talent but hasn't sniffed the floor at all as far as I know. Karuletwa could develop in time but boy this team could use a Pinion.

One thing is certain we weren't going to win in this league against other teams with mens just on the hopes of our kids loving that helmet. We had to get paid mercenaries and a coach that knows how to swim in those waters. So I guess it shouldn't come as some huge surprise when guys aren't diving on the floor or otherwise fighting tooth and nail to win. *Even though I watch a decent amount of ball and still see other players from other teams out there giving it hell.

Oh and one more thing I want to point out here because this seems to be the go-to that he's had to construct an entire roster. Woes me. That's true at face value but in reality he's brought 4 guys from Kentucky....with Fland, Richmond, and Knox basically locks to join. The math here is real simple that's like 7 out of 10 guys that play if you want to count Watkins as the 10th man. two of his older transfers are nothing burgers so far and it's pure luck he's gotten anything out of Brazil. Hell Brazil has managed to get me to care about him again when I was pretty much done with his overrated ass last season.

I will always be a Hog fan. However, I think I am about done with college sports in total. They have nearly become unwatchable. In football, holding is rampant and uncalled. You can mug a receiver and no call. And there are others. And the replays to see if someone got a toe inbounds is ridiculous. Basketball...three seconds doesn't exist any more. You can camp out in the lane. Charging? Nope. Traveling...not much. And now, everyone takes three pointers. Not much inside game. And now, no pride at being in a certain school. It is all about the money. You can't even know the players names every year. Even coaches are seeing it and quitting.
