If we win this one I propose we chain Sus-Scrofa to the server and force him to start every game thread for every sport until the juju wears off.

Funny how things go.

Around Christmas, I was thinking we were a Sweet Sixteen team and anything more would be gravy. Anything less would be a disappointment.

By the end of January, I would have regarded it as a miracle if we even made the tournament at all. Getting to the Sweet Sixteen was out of the question.

Now here we are. We've met my initial goal. Everything else is gravy. But it feels like we overperformed to get here.

Compared to the season yes, but in the actual games against Kansas and St. John's, we didn't look like a team that just got hot or lucky, we just looked like a team that was as good or better than both of them.

I agree. We hit some timely (not lucky) shots down the stretch in both games. Like you said...we are at least as good as those teams and we just outplayed them.

After we won Thurs, my initial thought was anything beyond that was icing on the cake. When we were 0-5, the tourny was a pipe dream, let alone the sweet 16. I want to see how Thiero plays tonight. If he looks good, can actually contribute, I honestly believe this team can get to the FF. We can beat TT, we can beat Fl/Mary with a healthy Thiero.
It's a miracle that the team that was 0-5 and down their 2 best players is within 2 games of a FF.

This'll be the first Arkansas game of any sport in my 39 years where I haven't been able to call dad and talk about how it's going. Hospice House in Jonesboro was good to him for the past week but he passed away last night.

Funeral arrangements are set and now I'm back to hating whoever the next team we play is. Sand Aggy? Just as gay as original aggy

Well didn't see the game but I'm guessing looking at the box score that we didn't run some of our reserves very much and therefore we ran out of gas. You can't have a game where you get very little from Richmond, Fland, and Z. #3 I can see why he wouldn't have contributed much if he just wasn't "right"

I'm hoping next season Cal goes a bit deeper because we sure needed it through out this season.

It has probably already been said but I'm proud of how we fought back from 0-5 to get where we got to.

That said, it's inexplicable how we lose that game with a 16pt lead with 10 mins left 13 with 5 mins left. Aidoo missing the front end of a 1+1, Richmond's unexplainable turnover, and lack of rebounding late.

Cal will get talent here and has said he only wants 8-9, but I would prefer he plan on 10-11 guys that can play.  Injuries will happen especially in the SEC which is very physical.

There was a lot of resilience in this group, just not in the last 5-10 minutes of game time last night.  Productive season IMO.

I think that seems to be a hallmark of anything Razorback over the last several years. We get up on somebody and all the sudden players just go stupid.

Muss teams tended to get up on teams and then slow play way the fuck down and eat clock...that worked for a while. I think Cal prefers to go with the flow.

Anyway we weren't going to win that game without some contributions from somebody like Fland or Richmond or Z....those guys gave very little was my who point from earlier. I'm sure Davis playing really well probably limited Fland's minutes. Was Fland on the court in overtime? Idk didn't see it but if he wasn't I think I would have looked down the roster and put my best most talented 5 on the court and let it rip.

I wonder how much of this was Cal, and how much was just not having the payroll. If you don't have any money for the 11th player on the bench, then the 11th player on your bench will be a guy who's not worth any money.

It is what we have done most of the season. Get a big lead, only to watch it dwindle to nothing and end up a nail biter. We beat two good teams to get to the sweet 16. And just fell short of the elite eight. Pretty good season as far as I am concerned. I know I didn't suspect us to go that far.

Which didn't exist so not sure what your point was either.

We weren't beating Florida.

there were a lot of questions whether cal was just coming to arkansas to cash a check or whether he still had it. i think those got answered.

Wasn't able to stay up and watch but I checked the box score when I woke up in the middle of the night. Brutal way to lose, but we've been flirting with this all year.

All things considering I think Cal did a pretty good job this year. I'd love to see him rethink his approach on having a short bench, a self inflected and completely avoidable problem, but hoping he learned his lesson.

So many ways we could have (should have) won:

-Wagner doesn't take that quick 3, run 20 more seconds off the clock
-Aidoo makes the free throw to make it a 4 point lead
-Richmond doesn't make that WTF turnover
-we foul before they shoot the 3

I'm sure there are more

We make the last shot in reg would have been easiest. Based on the way our games have gone lately, I actually kind of expected it. But as a Razorback fan I knew better.

Hell of a job by Cal. Didn't he have just one player when he came here and had to get a roster ready in a couple of weeks? We will be back. And I hope we get some men underneath the basket that can block and score.
Y'all have got to quit watching. We have to be the biggest masochists in the world.

That being said, Cal didn't hurt his credibility for next year. We should be badass.

Like I said, masochists.

Here is one humble retards take on this team...

Our issues were not number of players.  Our issue was types of players. (edit; # of players was not our main issue)

It is great to have down low players who have length and are able to block shots.  But that doesn't really matter.

We need one legit big man who can take up floor space, not just verticle space, and we need one legit "roll around the screen and elevate" jump shooter.  This team had neither.

We have guards who can get to the basket.  We didn't, however, have that guard that could create his own shot with either the step back or coming off a screen.  We also had bigs that can go up and block a shot.  But we didn't have a big that can hold his ground.

I humbly submit we did not have a complete team that was build to win a national championship.  This team over achieved if you ask me.  Could they beat anyone on any given night?  Sure.  Could they run through a 64 team tournament?  Nope.

Florida, Tennesee, Aubun, Texas Tech all proved that a team needs a guy who can put his back to the basket and back his guy down.  That was the most important piece missing this year.

Cal did a hell of job this year given what he inhereted.  Which was nothing.  My Kentucky friends are all saying, "Typical Cal." and "Glad he isn't here anymore so we don't have to put up with his getting bounced."  I wouldn't trade Cal for Pope.  I'm excited for next year.

I agree.  I think Cal did a remarkable job in a single season. They went deeper than I thought, but I think they got the stupids with 16 up and just collapsed. So while it's a surprise that got to this game, they should have won this game because they were winning it decisively late.

If in that last three minutes we had just turned the ball over on a shot clock violation every trip down the floor, we would have won.

That's how bad our collapse was.

I've learned life gives you aclot of good times, a lot of bad times, and a shit load of what ifs. We choose how we want to look at it.

That said, if you told me last October we'd lose a sweet sixteen game in OT, I would've signed up for it. A month ago, I would've asked if you needed it in blood.

It was a good year overall. Got us back to winning after last year's fiasco. Our kids played as hard as you could've asked. I'm looking forward to next year.

And it wasn't like we fell ass first into a SWEET 16...we beat two pretty salty teams to get there. It's pretty critical to get a better seed which is why I'm a bigger proponent of getting some depth. As a higher seed it's just such a steep hill to climb. This team if fully healthy for the balance of the season was probably at worst a 5 seed. Probably more likely a 4 seed. Injuries and lack of continuity pushed us down to a 10.

This team was long and fast but could get easily pushed around especially in the paint...so yes I agree a lot can be fixed with getting 1 or 2 heavier guys. Can't argue that we need some legit shooters/shot creators. I think a year 2 Knox and Richmond those guys probably come back much stronger and more confident in what Cal needs them to do. I'd like to see at least 4 main rotation guys come back for next season.

It's certainly not unreasonable to want to be 8/9 deep but traditionally if you did get a injury you still had a legit 10-13 to pull from...we didn't have that this season like at all. We got some glorified walk-ons that supposedly can shoot it but probably couldn't defend me.Then treated them like they didn't exist at all so that either tells me Cal had no intentions on paying the scrub non-NILed guys or they just weren't any good. Pretty sure Cal has been known to stash some guys on the roster that end up coming out of nowhere to be good players so I won't put it past one or two of these guys to it here but given the modern realities they'll probably bounce to other situations.

While we should have been able to win the game up 13 with 4 minutes left, I can think of worse losses in Razorback history.

Hoping this one provides a little extra motivation to Cal and any returning players to get redemption next year.

All in all, this year was a success.

Jesus fuck that had to be the quickest "tie-ball" I've ever seen...usually it requires at least two teams to possess the ball too.

I don't want to give those refs the benefit of pretending they're smart enough to make the split-second decision, but I still think if the possession arrow is going our way they let Tech commit a few fouls to try to get the ball away before they call the tie-up.

I have never cared much for basketball (likely due to my disastrous attempts at playing the game) but my wife and eldest daughter are absolute fanatics--particularly where the Razorbacks are concerned. Their emotional weather report while following Hog roundball this season has ping-ponged from impending rain to blue skies and sunny optimism to the final Cat V hurricane that was Thursday night.

On Friday morning, my wife's Razorback spirit was moribund and even the mention of the upcoming Vandy baseball series brought only a slight flutter of its pulse but it was able to sit up and take a bit of nourishment from Kentucky's Sweet Sixteen loss. Then a miracle occurred; Texas Tech's spectacular choke job against Florida in the final three minutes of their Elite Eight matchup was the Ivermectin needed to overcome the Hog-19 curse stealing the life away from her Razorback spirit. Today, she and my daughter are already discussing the prospects of a deep NCAA run for the Hogs next year.

The moral of this sad little tale? Sometimes, for a Razorback fan, the lamentations of defeat arising from your enemies are almost as sweet as the cheers of victory coming from your mouth.

But if we had built Nolan a statue before this season... we'd be an Elite 8 team at worst.
