I haven't lately had relations with a fat girl but maybe I'm the slump buster. I'm willing to try anything other than homo stuff to get our Hogs out of the funk, which I am hoping is us overreacting to a midseason slump.

Oh look, yet another season where we're decimated by injuries.
In fairness, Spencer was their Friday starter and Belyeu is/was a projected top 15 pick who they lost 2 months ago so we can't really complain about injuries this time.
Guess I missed it. What happened to Fraser?
This is the weekend where we sweep Texas and right the ship.

I grew up with the SWC. We had to play the whole state of Texass and got screwed on the regular. Especially when we played Texass. I still have an unhealthy hatred for those cocksuckers. So, yes, Fuck Texass.
We had a ESL gathering for my son's school district. Kinda a scam since he speaks English and Japanese fluently, but whatever. Anyway, the Principal for the school they had it was talking and heard I was from Arkansas somehow (no idea how the fuck he heard that) and was talking and said he graduated from the UofA and then said Mrs so and so here has two kids, one is going to the U of A and the other is going to UT. I just looked her deadass in the eyes and said "How the heck did you let that happen?" and did the horns down. I was about 90% kidding but did it fairly deadpan. He got it since he is about my age and knows what it means to be from Arkansas and hate UT. She seemed thoroughly confused and likely thought I was a psychopath. I gave zero shits and the dude let out a big laugh and did the horns down too. Told her old SWC traditions die hard. She still seemed really confused, so either she is from somewhere else, is too young to know or is just a dumb bitch.
My hate for Texas is unnatural, irrational, and unhealthy. I am comfortable and at peace with my psychosis.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on May 02, 2025, 04:48 PMMy impression from the strikeouts and the announcers was that he was throwing high heat on purpose.
I think this is correct also. There's a lot more that goes into pitching strategy than any of us will ever know.
Major League hitters have said that some pitchers response to the higher launch angle swings we see now has been to locate fastballs at the top of the zone. I've also had conversations with guys who are very qualified to give an opinion on the subject say that different pitchers will be effective in different areas of the strike zone based on a variety of measurable factors. That includes the top of the zone.
Then add in the scouting report for each batter and where there strengths and weaknesses are.
Only reason I say that is it's possible that Wood could be up in the zone tonight intentionally. It obviously worked for him last week.

Todd Walker is the most insufferable person in college baseball. He absolutely cannot give Arkansas credit for anything. "Texas gave Arkansas the game"
Texas scores 1 run in 18 innings, but they gave us the game. ::)
Texas absolutely cut its own throat last night. We obviously pitched great but all but one of our runs came on Texas walking or hitting a batter. They played uncharacteristically bad last night.
That game should have been a 2-1 final going either way.

Good point on the hit batters, but drawing walks is a skill. It hasn't been all that long ago when it was a talent our batters didn't have and our hitting coach couldn't or wouldn't teach.
We probably could have had a couple more CWS appearances and maybe a title had we mixed in some plate discipline to go along with all those arms in the late 2000s-early 2010s.
For sure our guys didn't give them anything easy.
Let's see if we can solidify the dominance today by sweeping!

Aloy keeps amazing me. The play he made where he caught the ball going away from first, was in the air, and threw the guy out without bouncing the throw to first. And he has done that several times this year. He may be the best SS we have e ever had.

Totally agree. He can hit and is elite in the field. Best we've had IMHO.

We left like 50 baserunners and the bases full like 8 times. The game could have been 15-1 as easily as 2-1
If Texas offense had scored 4+ runs, then I would agree their walks, hbp and mental errors cost them the game, but when they score 1 run in 18 innings, the game is already decided. Anything else just changes the amount they lose by. It's a slight to Root and Wood to suggest Texas lost the game and that's why I have a problem with Todd Walker. Those were special pitching performances.
Maybe we're getting walked because they're afraid to pitch to us. What if they threw strikes and we hit 4 more home runs?

Battles was the best defensive SS we had had, but I agree. Aloy is right there with him on defense and a much better bat.

True. But we leave 50 baserunners on base every game.
Regardless, I'm not saying we didn't earn the victory. I'm simply saying Texas helped us out a lot more than we helped ourselves.

If that's the case then most games are won by the other team making more mistakes. Getting on base is a big part of how good teams win. The teams with the highest team OBP generally win the most games.

Looking at our team...who the hell do you pitch around to get to the next guy? Everyone can hit. Even guys off the bench. This is probably the best all around hitting team I have seen us have. We really need a game three starter. We miss Coil. Our BP is pretty good, but not great. But, we have a lot of guys we can go to. I hope we keep this attitude up for the next two series.

He definitely seems to like our lineup a lot better than in previous years. Everyone can hit, get on base, and hit the ball out of the park.
Hell, our 9 hole hitter is tied for 3rd on the team in homers in SEC play and is batting a hair under .300 in SEC games.
There don't seem to be any automatic outs like in years past when we had guys like Parker Rowland, John Bolton, and Diggs at the bottom of the lineup who were automatic outs and would often kill a rally.
Guys like Robinett, Boles, and even Fraser have come into the lineup and produced in big spots.

I still worry a little about Iredale. He seems to have come out of his slump somewhat, however he still worries me at the plate. He blooped a single to right I think in the last game but his swing didn't look right to me.

Agreed, he's about the only one who gives me pause at the plate right now. He seems to be a guess hitter who has a low swing, which means he'll hack a lot of pitches low and away or in the dirt.
He's got the lowest BA in SEC games (.256) of the regulars in our lineup by quite a bit. Thomas is a full 30 points higher at .288, and everyone else is over .300.
Listening to the Southeastern 16 Reaction show on Friday night, they think we effectively locked up a top 8 seed with our game 2 win against Texas.
According to Boyd's RPI Needs Report, coming into Friday, we only needed to win 2-3 remaining games to secure a national seed. After beating Texas on Friday and Saturday, that figure is 0-1 with 6 to play.
So we could effectively drop both remaining series and even get swept in one and still be a national seed.
Get a national seed, lose first game in Hoover. Rest everybody and let them heal.
Kill em all and let God sort them out.

I don't know why we even have an SEC tournament AFTER the regular season SEC winner is determined. It means nothing to a majority of the teams.

Agree but the new format is a big improvement.

With the new format I hope we win the mother fucker. It will be just like another three game weekend series. All the starting pitchers need to work at least a few innings that week to stay sharp.
That said I'd rest guys like Maxwell or anyone else nursing injury.
Get hot at the right time. That's all that counts. We got hot this weekend. We don't need to stay hot until the NCAA tournament, but we need to be hot then.
Horns still #1. Hogs went from 11 to 7.

How in the absolute fuck do they stay #1?

They have a better resume than anyone else.
Still a two game lead in the toughest conference.
It's pretty clear that they aren't the most likely to win in or even get to Omaha. And they're far from the most talented. But just looking at the records I can't see how you could put anyone else in that spot.
Let them keep that target on their backs.

There are other polls which dropped Texas. What, 5 or 6 reputable baseball polls?
Love D1's reasoning here, "The Bulldogs (Georgia) also own a head-to-head series win against Arkansas, which keeps them ahead of the Razorbacks in the rankings."
Uh, we just swept #1 Texas. Why are we not ahead of them?

Baseball America has UGA, TX, then the Hogs #3.

I agree with this. Arkansas and LSU should probably switch spots based on resumes.
doesn't really matter.
with six tough games ahead of us, securing a national seed is the goal.

Absolutely. It's a travesty that they haven't had it at Auto Zone Park.

I believe it went back up for bid in the last year or two and Hoover was the unanimous choice again. The coaches seem to love it there for whatever reason.

I think for certain SEC minds it's locked in as much as Omaha is for the CWS. Win Hoover then make it to Omaha.
Could the CWS be somewhere else? For example there are a hell of a lot of medium sized baseball fields in central Florida.

Let me preface this by saying that after attending part of this event in Hoover in 2018 I think they do a fine job of putting on the tournament. The ballpark is dated and nothing special, but the park that it's located within works well and is fan friendly.
However, I believe that the biggest thing keeping this event in Hoover on an annual basis is probably that someone with ties to the SEC office is profiting financially from the event. That's just pure speculation, but it's consistent with the league's (state of) Alabama-centric mentality and history of cronyism and/or corruption. There were reports in the past that Memphis put in a significantly higher bid the last time the event was open to moving and the league decided to stand pat.
One argument that always gets brought up is the RV park adjacent to Hoover Met, and that is a great perk given how many RVers travel to the tournament. But there are other sites with nearby parks, one of which being Dickey-Stephens in NLR. And there are probably at least a dozen minor league parks within the league's footprint that could be better venues for the SEC event.
The best thing to do would probably be to make Hoover the "permanent" site the way Nashville is for the basketball tournament, but rotate it once every 4-5 years to break up the monotony and give someone else a chance to host it.
Here's hoping the LSU umps don't screw us into the ground at their place. You know they will want to keep LSU above us.
We'll behind then in the net no matter what

I thought we got a lot of grace from the umps this past weekend. I don't expect the same in Red Stick.

You can bet on where teams are ranked?
Quote from: Usafhawg on May 06, 2025, 06:14 AMWhy would the umps care about rankings?
Outside of ball/strike calls which should be done by automated systems anyway, the umpiring in the SEC is better than the officiating in either of the main sports (football, men's basketball). Or maybe it's just less susceptible to the corrupt whims of the SEC office and their desires to engineer the championship race in a manner to maximize league revenue.
In baseball they seem to mostly get the replay decisions right. Even if the umps miss a call on the basis the coaches have recourse to get it right before the next play. Really the only thing left up to human error is the strike zone, and that's a relatively easy fix if the governing organizations would just implement it. The technology is already in place in all SEC ballparks to make the change seamless.
Quote from: Usafhawg on May 06, 2025, 08:23 AMYou can bet on where teams are ranked?
Money follows the best teams. Rankings are a refelection of that.
Edit: just to be clear, my sarcasm meter has apparently been broke for a while now. I'm just screwing with you. The ranking angle on why the umps will screw us in redstick is dumb. Everyone knows the umps never need a reason.
Love this pic!

I'm torn. It's probably in our interest for Texas to win their midweek game, but it'd be fun to see them lose to Lamar.
Awesome work
