So we get the winner of Florida - South Carolina - Ole Miss and don't get to play until the 22nd or 23rd.
we play friday.
Have we locked up a Top 8 National seed, or do we have to win some SEC Tournament games?
Quote from: Hizog on May 17, 2025, 10:30 PMHave we locked up a Top 8 National seed, or do we have to win some SEC Tournament games?
I would think that winning 2/3 vs Tenn would lock up a top 8 seed guaranteed.

We should be a lock.
d1 had us the #2 national seed going into the weekend. goodness, we are in.
the sec tournament only means something to the teams that have to win a game or two to get in. we are not in that group.
We play at 3:00 Friday.

D1 had Arkansas, Texas, and LSU as locks from the SEC for national seeds going into this weekend.
We will be the #3 or #4 national seed.

Projected #3 overall behind the whorns and corndogs
Among SEC teams, it's interesting to compare:
National Ranking
SEC standings
RPI
D1 Projected National seeds
It's the same 6 SEC teams in each, but every one has a different order for the top 6 teams. No telling how to seeding works out.
I just hope we don't get matched up with KSU or TCU in the supers.
i'd rather not get paired with an sec team in the supers. i like our chances against an out of conference opponent, especially at home.

Let's get past the regionals first.
Looking like Florida will move on to take on ole Miss tomorrow. We get the winner.
Quote from: Son of Spam on May 18, 2025, 03:15 PMLet's get past the regionals first.
Doesn't matter who we get, they've got one guy with a .198 batting average who's going to go for 5 homers against us in the regional.

MSU errors have not helped.
At 6:25 AM in Berkeley, Cal was up 2-0 on Wake Forest. Apparently playing the ACC schedule at Cal's local time would have been disastrous for the rest of the conference.
Bama/Tennessee just got interesting on a missed throw to first for the third out. What would have gotten UT out of the top of the 5th with a 5-2 lead just turned into a 5-4 lead with runners on 2 and 3.
Follow up with a 2 RBI double to left center and Alabama goes from a 2-5 deficit to a 6-5 lead in two plays.
Now it's 9-6 Tenner. Looks like a good game.
11-6. Sorry everyone, go back to not paying any attention to this circus.
Damn Bama, you really gave us false hope on this one.
UGA gave Wes Johnson a raise and extension. Good for him to get paid without having to go to Stankville
Go OU! I'm just cheering for chaos right now.
Ole Miss beat Florida in the middle of the night (for me) and we play them 3:00 Friday. That would appear to start on time because we are the first game of the day.
In other news, how do the #2 and #3 seeds get to start on Friday, while the #1 seed has to play today?
Screenshot_20250522-055103.png
Texas won't have to play again until Saturday and we would play next day, assuming we both win. I guess the advantage for Texas would be in the finals on Sunday and being able to use some relievers that were used on Thursday.
I don't care about the SECT when we have a national seed locked up, but if I did want to win it, I'd prefer Thursday over Friday for the reason listed above. Also, if you DGAF about the SECT you can leave a day earlier after a loss.
Don't get me wrong, I'll watch every game I can because it is great baseball. I just don't want us to sell out to win it if it hampers our NCAA tourney chances. Get as many young guys as we can meaningful reps for development.
Our starting pitchers need as much rest as possible so we need to lose tomorrow

I want our top guys getting some work this weekend. Don't kill anyone but would love to see the starters throw 50 each and bullpen get an inning each.
We have several relief pitchers that need some more reps going into the postseason. I would expect our starters to have low pitch count and then try to get some of the other guys reps. Especially Dietz and Coil.

Agree with this. Don't go full Jay Johnson and throw them until their arms fall off. But I don't like the idea of them going two weeks between outings either.
Let's hope none of our hitters get knocked out for the season like eATMe's LaViolette had happen. If they make it, I doubt he plays again. Got hit in the knuckles while swinging at a fast ball. Looks to have a cast of some kind on now.
Lol Auburn ends the inning early when the runner slides 2 feet away from the bag. Went from runner on 3rd with 1 out to 2 outs and ending the 8th inning.
3-1 Aggie.
Auburn got bitchslapped on the review call too. "This is an NCAA safety rule."
https://x.com/MattMMXI/status/1925625203683443024
that was fucky. runners on 1st and 2nd, 1 out, new pitcher comes in,
trying for a 4-6-3 dp, the runner going into second gets down so as not to get an interference call, and 1st base is ruled out as well because he slid too far outside the base path.
we'd be pissed if that happened to arkansas. that slide had no affect on the play.
That X view is the classic "I saw it clear as day from my seat 500 feet away in the right field stands."
Unless I'm mistaken and they've changed it, the MLB rule is as long as the runner can reasonably reach the base the slide is legal. Looks like under that standard it shouldn't have been called interference, but the NCAA may have a different rule.
This is baseball 101, and the easiest call that ump made all day.
SECTION 4. The intent of the force-play-slide rule is to ensure the safety of all players. This is a safety and an interference rule. Whether the defense could have completed the double play has no bearing on the applicability of this rule. This rule pertains to a force-play situation at any base, regardless of the number of outs.
a. On any force play, the runner must slide on the ground before the base and in a direct line between the two bases. It is permissible for the slider's momentum to carry him through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram).
Exception—A runner need not slide directly into a base as long as the runner slides or runs in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play of the fielder. Interference shall not be called.

That clears it up. Good call.
Announcers made it sound like the wording was changed for this season. The ump explained it pretty clearly but it makes even more sense after I looked it up.
Tennessee and Texas in extras.
We took 5 out of 6 from this collection of orange jackoffs.

Does winning the baseball tournament get an automatic NCAA bid? It almost never matters bc an SEC team that good would get in anyway, but it might matter this year for A&M.

Matt Hobbs said putting Hagen Smith on a pitch count last year was a bad move. Quote from DemGaz this morning "The biggest mistake I could've made. If we're going to rest a guy, I just won't pitch him".
He said Hagen is a competitor and told him to just go get some work in.

Yes, winner gets an auto bid and it usually doesn't matter because that team was already getting in the NCAAT. I think that's the only way A&M gets in but Lavoilette(sp) breaking his hand hurts their chances to get that far. Maybe if they get to the champ game they get an at large but I doubt it. I wouldn't want them in my bracket as a regional host team.
This Aggie pitcher has been dealing.
Does anyone here watch after the Hogs are eliminated? Or does that just kill all the life and interest?

Watching UALR trying to secure the OVC tourney championship on my iPad. Currently up 2-1 and batting in the top of the 9th.
