Title: Hogs vs Ole Miss—-Baseball (Game thread)
Post by: Son of Spam on May 22, 2025, 12:42 PM
So, our baseball and softball teams have to beat the Ole Piss Rebelblackbearlandsharts to advance. We play tomorrow at 3:00 on SECN. While I don't really care about this tournament, I would like to knock OM out. That being said, let's get ready for our regional. May our bats and pitching all get together at the same time and March through these teams. As usual, GO HOGS!

I will not be able to do PBP for any of these games as I will be out of town.

And, now a word from Tommy Lasorda: "He was so slow, that if he got into a race with a pregnant woman, he would finish third."

We can score 5 or more.

It's a good opportunity for Root to show mental toughness by buckling down and being an ace despite an awful inning (defensively and pitching).

Mission accomplished in frame 2.

We will encounter teams with that mentality in the post season as always, playing like their life depends on it,  and they'll beat our fucking asses.

Well leaving the bases loaded then the next inning leaving men on 2nd and 3rd who got there with one out, with your best player coming up, is a recipe for losing. Just like the errors in the first inning were.

Trying to hit a homerun on a 1-2 pitch 2 feet outside with 1 out and runners at 2nd and 3rd is just a wild concept.  It's not exactly all on Aloy either.  It's just what MLB baseball is these days.

I love DVH, but I hate this characteristic of our baseball program.

Programs like Tennessee, Ole Miss, and even Georgia are bat flipping and having fun, while we acting like a bunch of accountants on a field trip to the library.

You can't be on red all the time in baseball (somehow Vitello seems to make it work), but teams that have gone far in Omaha the last several years have had an edge that we simply don't have.

And we lost in the most innocuous way possible. One shitty defensive/pitching inning, then shut them out for 8. A quiet offensive game and we're not the ones who ran into each other in the outfield.

Ho hum. Now for the real show.

Some enjoy winning games that matter. I'm sure the MSU fans are still furious that they got run ruled twice in the SEC tournament the year they won the national championship.

Nothing I have posted would suggest what you just wrote is true.

I would prefer both.

More importantly though is we try for both.

That's the difference.  I think every game matters.  I also don't give a shit what MSU fans think.

I can promise you if we somehow find a way to win the CWS, you won't care a bit about yesterday's loss.

Remember when Arkansas fans would go into the SWC basketball tournament in Dallas and not care if we won?

Me either.

I spend my time remembering the 94 national championship, and I remember no one being upset that we didn't win the conference tournament.

The only thing that matters is winning the championship in Omaha.

So what? You act like winning an SEC championship prohibits you from winning a national championship. I want Arkansas to win everytime they play, espEcially against LSU, Ole Miss and Aggy.

Yeah he's gonna need to sit this one out on making any post season predictions.

See sig line..

The one time DVH won it, it did, in fact, prohibit the team from winning the NCAA title because Paulette got hurt costing the team a starting pitcher.

Just treat this thread like the sec tournament and take the L on this one.

100% this.

We've won exactly two titles "that matter," one disputed. In how many years of playing these sports?

Yes, any national championship in any sport is better than an sec tournament title. I don't understand the fans that claim to want to win every game only to minimize over 40 national championships.

Confirmation bias. There aren't six people outside the state of Arkansas who realize we've won one of those, much less 40.

It's fine. And it's A measure of greatness. We have an amazing facility and an endless pipeline, with generational leadership.

And I would trade all of it in a heartbeat for ONE national championship in football.

They don't care because it wasn't their school that won them. If it was, they would care. It's an amazing accomplishment that I will gladly celebrate as a fan.

With that said, if lesser coaches at TN, Ole Miss, and Ms St can win a title, DVH deserves one. I wish this team would sack up and find a way to get it done for him. It's long overdue.

Of course it's amazing. At that level.

It's not the same.

How many conference championships did he win? Or did he just sit those out in order to win a national championship?

I've always felt like that SEC tournament run in 2021 took something out of us. We looked exhausted when the postseason came, perhaps from the pressure of winning every regular season series, being #1 throughout, and the fact that most series were close and 2-1 (hence why we saw so many 9 out saves from Kopps).

If ever a team could've benefited from dropping a series or 2 in the regular season and/or going 2 and done in Hoover it was that one.

Good point. Kopps for sure looked that way, and/or there was so much more video of him to study for tendencies that he became a little more hittable.

And I'm sorry to go grammar police, but this one is nails on a a chalkboard for me. "Hence why" is redundant.

DVH and Hobbs developed this nasty tendency in 2021-2024 to get too reliant on one particular closer and start to call on him for 9 out saves in both game 1 and the rubber match instead of having the bullpen step up.

They did it with Kopps in '21, Tygart in '22, Wood in '23, and Gaeckle last year. Except for Kopps all were freshmen, and except for Kopps they all wore down in the stretch run. Tygart was the worst in that he went from unhittable to unusable by the time we went to Hoover in 2022, and he saw extremely limited action from Stillwater onward because he'd completely lost command.

It does seem like they're spreading the bullpen load much more this year. I like Gaeckle in a long middle relief role in support of Root or Wood depending on the circumstance.

I'll defend Tygart all day.  He was 100% injured and they kept running him out there.  Not sure why.
