Hope everybody has a fun, safe one. Looks like a lot of rain this weekend.
Remember John Brown, Samual Hadley, Caleb Harrington, Jonathon Harrington, Robert Munroe, Isaac Muzzery, Asahel Porter and Jonas Parker. All KIA in Lexington, Massachusetts April 19, 1775.
And the shot heard 'round the world
Was the start of the Revolution
The Minutemen were ready, on the move
Take your powder, and take your gun
Report to General Washington
Hurry men, there's not an hour to lose!
We visited the Yorktown and Laffey in Charleston Friday. It was unreal. Here's to ya boys...
Memorial Day was born on May 30, 1868 when Ohio Congressman James Garfield (a former Civil War general and future U.S. president) formalized the first official Decoration Day before a crowd of 5,000 people at Arlington National Cemetery. Back then they called it Decoration Day.
"Hither our children's children shall come to pay their homage," he predicted. "Assemblies like this are gathering at this hour in every state of the union."
Anybody cooking anything good this Memorial Day weekend?
I fired up my PK Grill (Arkansas made) today and threw on some boneless chicken breasts which I marinated for two hours in lemon pepper and Zesty Italian Dressing. They turned out great. With that we had a mess of purple hull peas with sliced red onion and a sliced fresh tomato (sprinkled salt on it) on the side. Also had cornbread (can't eat purple hull peas without cornbread) and cantaloupe (Guatemalan, Walmart). My better half made a chocolate cake for dessert, but I'm full as a tick and sipping on a nice single malt Islay at the moment. Might have to save the cake for tomorrow.
I'm going to throw a pork tenderloin on the egg a little later...so easy, so cheap and so good. I'll get some twice baked pototoes from Edwards and do some green bean bundles and a salad and call it a day.

I thought about doing that too but not sure it would thaw out in time. Maybe if I work up enough ambition to get up right now and take it out I can do a quicky in the electric smoker for a 3 or 4 hrs.
Put an 11 pound butt on at 8:30 last night. Hoping it's all good for lunch.
Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis. Way more deceased here than I remembered. This is just one view of dozens over rolling hills.

Smoking a couple racks of ribs, potato salad, baked beans (the old fashioned way) and a Mex corn salad for shits and giggles. It's a great but somber holiday but I bet those gone would want us to enjoy. Cheers gents and assholes
God bless every war fighter who paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. May their blood be honored and remembered to the end of days.
