Okay, time to turn the page to next year. I'm back, fully seated on the Wagon. Was definetly rocky and almost fell off but luckily I'm too stupid to fall completely off.
MLB Draft Rules: "Four-year college players become eligible after completing their junior year or upon turning 21, whichever comes first, within 45 days of the draft."

Left Field: #8 Cam Kozeal (So.) - Assume he starts but not sure on position w/ Souza back.
DH: Open
Starting Pitcher: #20 Gabe Gaeckle (So.) - Just misses the draft cutoff.

Here are the guys who could come back but are draft eligible:
1st Base: #18 Reese Robinett (R-So) - If he gets drafted it has to be late rounds
Short Stop: #9 Wehiwa Aloy (Jr.) - Top 15 draft pick
3rd Base: #10 Brent Iredale (Jr.) - Projected in top 3 rounds
Left Field: #24 Charles Davalan (So.) - Projected top 50 pick

Pitcher: #40 Ben Bybee (Jr.) - Projected 5th-7th round
Pitcher: #36 Parker Coil (Jr.) - No solid projections but probably goes late in the draft
In the press conference Dave said that we would have 8 or so guys drafted. Mabye some of the later round guys come back.
Here are the guys projected to be in the 2026 class (more to come with the portal):
Catcher: Max Holland
Short Stop: Spencer Browning
Short Stop: Dylan Cheek
Short Stop: Marcus Bates
Outfield: Lincoln Boyle
Outfield: Judah Ota
Outfield: Hunter Rose
Pitcher: Brody Crane
Pitcher: Johnny Carver
Pitcher: Trystan Newberry
Overall we have a solid core coming back. We get Robinett, Bybee and Coil to come back then we have a really solid core. Will be interesting to see who we add out of the portal.
I'm excited for next year. Discuss when emotionally ready.
We will be good, win a lot of games, be in the mix for the SEC title, shit down our leg and not win anything when it really counts, rinse and repeat.

Would be nice to get Coil. Dave said 8 would get drafted and there are 11 on my list. Forgot Becker. I'm hoping there are some other guys we didn't see pitch this year that factor into 2026. 3rd base is the most glaring hole right now. I accidently put Robinett there but meant to stick him back at 1st if he returns.

I'm thinking Robinett is back. If Iredale goes to the draft, he'll be our 3rd baseman.
We need to hit the portal hard for a bat at 1st base. We got next to nothing out of that position this year and it's largely a hitting position.
I also think we'll get a few pitchers back like Coil, Bybee, and Foutch.
A lineup that features returners like Helfrick, Souza, Kozeal, Robinett, and Aloy is a really good core to build from.
I also feel like we get 1 of the 3 of Thomas, Iredale, and Davalan back. Probably Thomas if we're being honest.

Longshot name for 1st base...Nolan Souza. I'm not convinced his shoulder will heal enough for him to play SS, or even 2B. Assuming he can make contact the way he was for the last couple of weeks before the injury, the bat will play as a first baseman.

Eh, Stovall had a similar-ish injury which ruined his sophomore season and he came back to have an all-SEC season at 2B the next year.
Souza has had most of this season to recover following surgery, whereas Stovall tried to play through his and wasn't shut down into late into the 2023 season.
I think Souza's either at SS or 2nd next year and we go hunting for a bat at 1st.

McGee: I think it will be very difficult to keep Tennessee and North Carolina out of the MCWS next year, and for the same reason I gave about Coastal. Vols head coach Tony Vitello is a self-professed psychologist, and UNC head coach Scott Forbes owns a business administration degree -- there is a 0% chance that they haven't been hunkered down since their seasons ended shy of Omaha, trying to figure out what went wrong. The team that had to handle the post-title hype and the team that seemed to be everyone's trendy June pick as the MCWS favorite thought that Omaha was a matter of when, but both were upset at home. I also want to include Arkansas in this group, but the Hogs don't have a self-professed psychologist.

A trip to the College World Series was on the line, and Arkansas pitcher Gage Wood did not have his best stuff.
Three straight hits loaded the bases in the third against Tennessee in the Super Regional on June 8. A runner scored.
Wood wasn't laboring, pitching coach Matt Hobbs said, but batters were getting to him. So he pulled Wood in the fourth, and the bullpen chipped in during an 11-4 win that sent the Razorbacks to the College World Series.
Nobody was more excited at the end of the game than Wood, Hobbs said, though he easily could have been upset. It was Wood's draft year. He'd thrown around 40 pitches.
The next day, when Hobbs borderline apologized to Wood for removing him from the game, Wood told him:
"Who cares? We're going to Omaha."
By any means, any method, Wood wanted to get his home state Razorbacks to Omaha. It was there that Wood became an Arkansas folk hero, throwing just the third no-hitter in College World Series history against Murray State on June 16. There was no removing Wood that day; Hobbs tried after eight innings and 106 pitches, and Wood refused.
The Batesville, Ark., native finished the game and his college career on his terms, in 119 pitches and with 19 strikeouts. He will be remembered for delivering one of the College World Series' most dominant performances ever, elevating his state in the process.
"An Arkansas kid standing on the mound in Omaha in a must-win game for the University of Arkansas — I mean, it doesn't get much bigger than that, right?" director of pitching development Zach Barr said. "We don't win the game, we're going home. The season's over. For him to go out there and do what he did in an environment like that on that day was pretty unbelievable."

A new chapter began Sunday, when Wood was drafted 26th by the Phillies. In Wood, Philadelphia landed a righty with an elite fastball with life and movement that produced the top whiff rate in Division I baseball. His curveball has strong vertical break and ranges from 83 to 86 mph. The club envisions developing Wood as a starter, also liking his slider and split-changeup.
But, before first-round projections, the no-hitter and a slot value of more than $3.4 million, Wood was a wide-eyed freshman arriving at the school he'd rooted for since he was a child.
He left Batesville High School, where enrollment is less than 1,000 students, as one of the state's top prep baseball players. He arrived at Arkansas, which has an undergraduate student population of nearly 29,000, and joined a team with some of the nation's top college players competing against other top talents.
"I thought he was a cartoon character, just very wide-eyed and bushy-tailed," Barr said of first meeting Wood in 2022.
Why?
"There's always a little bit of a 'Holy s —' moment for the young guys that come in," Barr said. "Gage is probably one of, if not the best, pitchers from our state. He's got some accolades behind him, but not as highly touted as some of the other guys we had. ... You kind of have that moment of realization, 'Oh, it's not my pond anymore. Now it's our pond, and I've got to try to be a big fish in it.'"
Wood closed some games in the middle of the season and threw some big innings in 2023. But, Hobbs said, he fizzled out like freshmen tend to do when frequently put in high-leverage situations. He finished the year with 23 appearances, recording five saves en route to a 4.80 ERA.
He looked different when he got to campus as a sophomore, coaches said. He was stronger. He'd shed baby fat. On the mound, his delivery was stronger, he used the strike zone more and the breaking ball was sharper.
"We always knew he was serious," coach Dave Van Horn said, "but we knew how serious he was now."
What transformed his game: paying attention to the little things, like his diet, sleep and recovery.
Hobbs recalled talking about food with Wood, who brought up that he'd run out of his meal prep — a foreign concept to some college athletes, who often eat at state-of-the-art cafeterias.
"I was like, 'Wait a second: you're preparing meals for the week?'" Hobbs said. "It's something you preach to your players, but it's rare that it actually happens, right?"
Wood primarily pitched in middle relief in 2024, logging a 4.46 ERA in 40 1/3 innings. What made Wood strong in relief, Van Horn said, was throwing a lot of strikes, repeating pitches well and good velocity. Combining that with a three-to-four-pitch repertoire that he could command made him a starter as a junior in 2025, Van Horn said.
Wood, however, made just two starts before tweaking his shoulder in mid-February. There were a few weeks, Van Horn said, where they didn't know if he'd return.
"You just never know how that's going to go," he said.
The MRI and other imaging came back fine. But it was a risk to come back, Hobbs said, especially in Wood's draft year. Still: "I don't know that ever really entered his mind," Hobbs said. The shoulder impingement — an injury that occurs when the shoulder blade pinches the rotator cuff — likely contributed to Wood going late in the first round, though Phillies assistant general manager Brian Barber said it did not concern the Phillies.
Gage Wood, pictured in 2024, overcame a shoulder injury in his junior season. He finished with a 3.82 ERA over 10 starts and 69 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. (Wesley Hitt / Getty Images)
Wood listened to the doctors, trusted his coaches' plan and kept asking: "How fast can you get me back on the mound? When can I pitch again?"
Barr felt encouraged a few weeks into Wood's throwing progression, when he began throwing full speed and didn't feel sore or move slowly afterward. Van Horn said he knew four to five weeks after the injury that they'd get Wood back; it was just a matter of how they used him.
What allowed Wood to return to the mound less than two months after the injury? His mindset toward rehab, Hobbs said.
"He was going to attack it, not just worry about what might happen," Hobbs said. "He also had the work ethic and was good at the monotonous stuff. He's good at the boring things. He's good at the pre-throws, the post-throw. He's good at making sure he's taking care of himself."
He returned April 18, throwing 25 pitches in a third of an inning. Hobbs saw some of Wood's prior excellence in his next outing against Florida, when he struck out five of the 10 batters he faced in three innings. The fastball reached 97-98 mph, Hobbs said, with strong command at the top of the zone. A couple of outings later, he struck out nine in four innings against Texas. He finished his junior season with 69 strikeouts and seven walks in 37 2/3 innings.
"He's got stuff that he'd show up on days where you're like, 'If he's pretty good today, if he commands it pretty well, they're going to have a really hard time getting more than a couple hits,'" Hobbs said.
Wood's college pitching career culminated on the mountain top, jumping up and down on the mound and using his hand to underline the Arkansas Razorbacks name on his jersey before his teammates mobbed him. Arkansas ultimately fell to Louisiana State in the semifinals on June 18. But, just moments removed from the joyous jumping with teammates on Charles Schwab Field, Wood told reporters post-game that he was on "cloud nine."
Connor Cunningham, Murray State's starting shortstop, could not have felt more differently after losing the elimination game. Wood had struck out Cunningham, his hometown catch partner, for the second-to-last out. After celebrating with his teammates and before his ESPN interview, Wood found his friend.
"I mean, that was the third no-hitter in the College World Series, first since 1960," Cunningham said. "Our season's over and what he does is come over to the dugout and hug me. It shows how good of a human being he is."
On the mound, Wood is "10 feet tall and bulletproof, and when you step in that box, he's pretty confident that he's going to get you out," Barr said. The same fierceness extends to helping his friends and teammates.
For more than two years, Cunningham has worked with Wood during the winter. They did not overlap at Batesville, as Cunningham transferred to the school the year Wood left for Arkansas. But Wood needed a catch partner and Cunningham a throwing partner. They play catch in the football team's indoor facility, then move to the weight room to lift. Wood workshops different pitches on Cunningham. And it's not a problem that Cunningham doesn't have a catcher's mitt, though, "I won't lie, it kind of hurts the hand a little bit," he said.
Cunningham, a high school junior when they started working together, had lots of questions for Wood. On mental cues, what to expect in college, what to do in the weight room, what Arkansas was like.
"Some guys like to work alone," Cunningham said. "But him inviting me to work with him, asking him questions to help improve my game (was valuable)."
Wood also offered advice to Arkansas teammates when not on the mound, Barr said, calling him their "biggest fan on the whole team."
"I mean, he's on the rail," Barr said. "He's trying to help you between innings, tell you what he saw, maybe what he was doing. For a lot of our guys, that's pretty irrelevant because they don't throw 100 with an absolute hammer curveball. But I think his confidence bleeds into everybody else."
Wood, upon signing with the Phillies, will report to the team's Clearwater, Fla., facility. His standout run in his home state has ended. He has an opportunity to begin a new one as he climbs the Phillies' system.
But memories of delivering Arkansas' greatest pitching performance will never be too far away.
"It's something he'll be able to carry with him his whole life," Van Horn said. "I don't think he'll ever have a problem getting a job in this state. I don't think he'll ever have a problem going out to dinner. He'll get a lot of dinners bought for him in this state because that's the way people do it."

O'Sullivan is probably the most overrated on there. He has a title, but he's pissed away more seasons where he had top 1-2 talent than Van Horn could if he coached here another 20 years.
Sounds like Kuhio has been an error waiting to happen in RF in the scrimmages this weekend. He may have to go back to DH. LF and RF are big question marks with the season 5 days away.

Updated stats after the first 2 series.
TL;DR version - the top half of our lineup is hitting pretty well, but there's a pretty clear line between top 5 and bottom 4.
Souza is what he's always been. Niu is a hole right now, but Pompey is shocking to me. Kid was a freshman All-American in 2024 and slashed .348/.397/.623 last year before getting hurt. Brumbaugh is probably going to be a John Bolton situation this year as a freshen — a good glove at short but an automatic out at the plate.
Offense (BA / OBP / SLG)
Kuhio Aloy — .474 / .524 / .947
Damian Ruiz — .412 / .583 / .412
Camden Kozeal — .385 / .515 / .962
Reese Robinett — .360 / .407 / .520
Ryder Helfrick — .310 / .394 / .759
Nolan Souza — .222 / .250 / .333
TJ Pompey — .208 / .286 / .250
Maika Niu — .179 / .226 / .321
Carson Brumbaugh — .111 / .143 / .111
Pitching:
(Starters)
Colin Fisher — 0.00 ERA
Gabe Gaeckle — 1.93 ERA
Hunter Dietz — 9.00 ERA
(Bullpen)
Steele Eaves — 0.00 ERA
Ethan McElvain — 0.00 ERA
James DeCremer — 0.00 ERA

Peyton Lee — 2.08 ERA
Parker Coil — 6.75 ERA
Jackson Kircher — 9.00 ERA
Cooper Dossett — 54.00 ERA
It's very early but Niu and Pompey have been big disappointments. Ruiz seems to have turned it on at just the right time.
Ruiz didn't get on base Friday that I recall but he hit the ball really hard twice. One fly ball to the wall and one piss missile line out to LF. I suspect that Stewart's performance yesterday earned him more at bats, which may shift Ruiz to CF and Niu to the dugout.
The hope is that Souza's arm recovers enough by mid to late season that he can take over shortstop and move Brumbaugh or Pompey to the bench if they don't start hitting.
Souza is going to be fine I think. He doesn't need to be the leadoff guy...too much swing and miss, but he's going to probably end up .280 plus with double digit doubles and HRs. He's started slowly all three years...not a lot of cold weather in Hawaii which could explain it.

Good points all around.
Stewart hit well yesterday but also had several great catches and excellent reads off the bat in LF yesterday. He may very well play himself into the everyday lineup.
I'm willing to cut Pompey a bit of slack. He's done it before at a good program in a good conference. I think he's just pressing right now. Honestly, I'd rather have him in the lineup than Brumbaugh. A few years ago I declared Caleb Cali the worst batter I'd ever seen don a Razorback uniform, and he ultimately ended the season as one of our best hitters. Some guys just take a while to settle in, and I give a bit more leniency to guys who've done it before.
Niu and Brumbaugh, conversely, are liabilities at the plate. I don't feel good about our chances if both are everyday players.
Souza coming back to the field would free up a DH spot and give us a bit more flexibility.
Lineup versus the Injuns.
Of note: Souza to 3B, Pompey to SS, Willis to DH, Brumbaugh to the bench.

I kind of like Stewart as DH. Our OF seems to need some work. I know the wind was bad yesterday, but Aloy lucked out on a catch in right and Stewart overran or misjudged one in left.
Updated slash stats after the UTA series. TL;DR - the top half of our lineup is hitting well, but we're getting absolutely hammered by the bottom of the order. I included some of the bench players for full frame of reference.

Niu showed some signs of life Saturday and Sunday. Maybe he's about to get going.
Brumbaugh looked good Sunday. Let's hope that isn't fools gold. He looked like all he needed was a boost of confidence. Maybe that's it.
I'd love to see more SLG out of Robinette, but I'm afraid he is what his stats say at this point. Ben McLaughlin 2.0 wouldn't be a bad thing as long as others take up the power slack.
Stewart needs to play until his bat proves he can't do it. People who watched fall and spring scrimmages said he looked overmatched. We talkin' bout practice?
We really need one of Souza or Pompey to start hitting somewhere close to their potential. That could be the hinge point between really good offense and mediocrity.
I'm cautiously optimistic that Brumbaugh found it this past weekend.
He was able to work a walk and then legged out an infield single on Saturday, and then hit 2 doubles on Sunday. Sometimes you just need that first one to get going. We'll see.
To your point, I think Stewart has hit himself into the lineup until he swings himself out of it. His power outweighs his deficiency in the field (famous last words).
It probably sounds insane, but I'm a bit more confident overall in Pompey than Souza. He's done it before at a high level. Like Brumbaugh, he just needs to break out of his slump, but time is running out and you don't want a guy to still be struggling that badly when SEC pitching rolls into town. It'll be interesting to see if DVH gives Pompey a shot in the lineup tonight.
I think we gave Pompey a shitload of money too. He's a major disappointment thus far to put it mildly.
On the flip side, Kozeal has been incredible. He and Helfrick will have to carry us all year.
Game 1 against Stetson has been moved up due to severe weather. It's going to be pretty bad, so I wouldn't be surprised if they push it and do a double header tomorrow.

Why would this game not be televised?
Just checked ESPN. Hogs up 4-0 after 2.
RBIs off a double from Kozeal and singles from Niu, Aloy, and Pompey (!).
I don't see the game listed on the ESPN app since it was moved up. Is there a trick to finding it?

Thanks. I missed that above.
App shows we're up 7-0 in the 6th
Quote from: olive_branch_hog on Mar 06, 2026, 01:13 PMWhy would this game not be televised?
The explanation was that we only have the ability to produce/televise two athletic events simultaneously. Because of the time change, baseball would compete with Softball and Gymnastics and both of those events are against a conference opponent, therefore Baseball would not be televised.
Won 7-1
Not the best game we've played.
Left a shitload of runners on base, committed 3 errors, and didn't piss a drop after the 5th.
Kozeal is vastly underrated. One of the best bats we've had in a lineup.
12-1 with one out in the 6th, looks like we are going to run rule em.
Down 4-1 to Stetson entering the 8th.
6-10 Stetson with their wins over North Dakota State, Virginia, Monmouth, Fordham, and Arkansas.
1-4 loss for us after 7-1 and 13-1 series wins.
Still concerned about our hitting but take 3 out of 4 from them and that'll be ok.
Scored 1 run after first 3 Hog batters, then go next 33 plate appearances without a run.
1 for 16 with runners on for the day
Brumbaugh needs to sit permanently. If the kid isn't ready for Stetson, how is he going to do against the SEC?
Even before today's loss this series didn't exactly instill a lot of confidence in our offense. We plated a ton of charity runs due to free base runners, bad fielding, and infield hits. Outside of Kozeal who is a doubles machine, we can't get XBHs.
Brumbaugh played like shit and committed 2 errors today to go along with a stinker at the plate.
And I've been saying it all season, but we are hitting way too many fucking ground balls this year. Even our base hits this series in many cases have been high choppers.
Yep. Our good teams grinded out Ws on days like today. Pitching will allow us to compete but I don't have much faith in this lineup.
We are committing too many errors and our fielding percentage must be way down. Leaving a LOT of RISP. Brumbaugh can't hit.
Quote from: Son of Spam on Mar 08, 2026, 05:08 PMWe are committing too many errors and our fielding percentage must be way down. Leaving a LOT of RISP. Brumbaugh can't hit.
The entire left side of the infield is killing us. There are no good options between the guys we've platooned there.
Pompey (.205), Souza (.192), and Brumbaugh (.156) are the worst hitters on the team. Yet they're essentially our only options at 3rd and short.
It's crazy how much a dropoff there is from 6 to 7 in our lineup. Case in point, Robinett was hitting well under .300 until this weekend, and he's at .291. After that, Pompey is next at .205.
Stetson figured out Big Tuna's slow sweeping curve yesterday. Hit 2 HRs off of him by waiting on it. That was their only runs and as usual, we scored 1 and then nothing.
Quote from: Son of Spam on Mar 09, 2026, 11:36 AMStetson figured out Big Tuna's slow sweeping curve yesterday. Hit 2 HRs off of him by waiting on it. That was their only runs and as usual, we scored 1 and then nothing.
Fisher's kind of a left-handed McEntire. When he's hitting his spots he looks elite. If he's not, it's batting practice time.
1 for 16 with RISP yesterday.
Top of the first and we are down 4-0 with no outs.
Today's start is, well, not optimal.
Already a pitching change. Watching other hitters of teams we have played tells you all you need to know about our hitting coach.
That's about as quick of a hook as you're gonna see.
Pompey at SS today. Brumbaugh's non hitting ass on the bench.
Jeebus
Lead made on and shit the bed. Our MO.
6 runs shouldnt be enough to win on the 4th game of a series against Stetson. We'll see if Hogs' bats can answer.
We must have some really crappy hitters at short and third if Brumbaugh and Pompey are all we have.
Any chance we can convince Israel that Stetson is hiding the Mossad/Epstein files in their dugout?
Is it too much to ask our hitters to get a run off this 7.00+ ERA lefty
Quote from: Cardiac Hog on Mar 09, 2026, 02:13 PMIs it too much to ask our hitters to get a run off this 7.00+ ERA lefty
That looks to be the case.
We have only stranded 7 through 7 innings today.
Pompey finishes 0-4 with 4 strikeouts.
It's not lost on me that he took Kendall Diggs' old number. Both are guess hitters who just swing wildly at low and away.
I just watched Pompey go down swinging at 3 pitches low and away. Like Brady Slavens, I wouldn't pitch him anything else.
Don't make any June travel plans on account of this lineup. A team with a left side platoon comprised of Souza, Brumbaugh and Pompey isn't going anywhere.
Never thought I'd miss John Bolton at short.
Quote from: Barton Fink on Mar 09, 2026, 02:39 PMNever thought I'd miss John Bolton at short.
I used to rue the day when we had 2 automatic outs at the bottom of our lineup with John Bolton and Parker Rowland.
Now we have 3.
Down 6-4 going into the 9th, against Stetson. We've won 34 straight non-conference series at home going back to 2014. That's in trouble. Time to change he narrative.
How many times have our hitters started 0-2? Then swing at something over their head or in the ground or watch one right over their plate?
Quote from: Son of Spam on Mar 09, 2026, 02:43 PMHow many times have our hitters started 0-2? Then swing at something over their head or in the ground or watch one right over their plate?
I hate Nate's plate approach so much.
We get into so many disadvantage counts because of it.
I think it also causes guys to press for that reason.
Surely we have someone who could play SS or third that can hit better than Pompey. Give someone else a chance.
We're getting shut down by a freshman leftie who's thrown 6 scoreless.
I'm really starting to hate this team.
Got the walk-off at the plate
When Souza is up, I would put my left and center fielder near left center field. He hits it in that gap every time.
3-0 and the pitch called for a strike was in West Fork.
Should have been full bases.
Clutch, we are not.
How many times have we had the lead hitter on and leave him stranded at first?
Death, taxes, and the Hogs getting shutdown by a couple of nobodies throwing 85 mph fastballs.
It's okay, we can do a season the hard way. Just keep our shit together enough to make the post season.

I get the feeling DVH really dislikes this team.
Between this comment and the others he's made earlier this season about some guys "having a seat with me" and his comments after UTA about how we needed to get our heads out of our asses with MSU coming in (what was then) 2 weeks.
Love DVH but this may just be a shitty job of roster construction.
Sure seems that way. I thought it was odd for him to trot out 4 freshmen in Arlington as well. He's voiced his displeasure several times already which is very uncharacteristic of him.

Milewski up next. Ump calls a 1-2 pitch right down the middle a ball. Grounds out hard to 3B (great stretch by Robinett and great effort to get back on the bag).
Chance up next. Singles on an infield chopper up the middle.
Lineup flips - Teel up next. Singles to RF.
Reese up next. Doubles off the wall in RF, 2 runs score. 5-0 State. Reese is responsible for all 5 RBI.
Sullivan up next. Reese takes 3rd on a wild pitch. Runs the count full. Walks. Get Dietz out of there.
DVH to the mound.
Tate McGuire in to pitch.
Stallman up next. Sullivan takes 2nd on defensive indifference. Runners at 2nd and 3rd. Grounds out hard to 1B.
5-0 State mid 5th.
All 5 of State's runs have come off of Reese's bat, and all 5 have come with 2 outs and 2 on.
I've noticed something about MSU vs. us offensively.
We're hitting a lot of choppers and weak ground balls, meanwhile their ground balls are lasers. Even their groundouts have been on hard hit balls.
Bottom 5th
Valincius (WHP) still on the mound for State.
Aloy leads off. SHOCKER -- another groundout. Aloy seems to be hitting grounders more than most in our lineup.
Robinett up next. ANOTHER FUCKING SOFT GROUNDOUT.
Pompey up next. Go ahead and pencil in a K or a groundout. Whatever. In shocking turn of events, singles to LF.
Souza up next. Quickly goes 0-2. Goes down swinging ugly at a pitch in the dirt and away. Shocker!
5-0 State after 5

Wyers up. Grounds into a 6-4-3 double play, run scores from 3rd, Woodson takes 3rd. 7-0 MSU.
Milewski up next. Goes down swinging.

We scored 2 because their catcher forgot how to catch a baseball.
This team seems completely incapable of getting the big hit, the big inning, or manufacturing any runs outside of opponents giving us free base runners and mistakes.
Runner on 3rd and Kozeal watches the first two strikes.
Ok, so the second strike shouldn't have been called, but it's already established that this ump sucks penis.
Doesn't matter, he walked on 4 straight balls. Helfrick up with runners on 1st and 3rd. Pitching change time soon for Moo State.
RBI single to left for Helfrick.
3-3.

Bases loaded and Kuhio just flails wildly at 3 straight pitches. Strike 3 was a foot off the plate.
Outside of Pompey, I'm not sure there's a player I trust less in that situation than Aloy. He just presses with RISP.

It was a good day.
Took 2 of 3. Wow. Excellent job. Very surprising.
baseball threads are the best.
I'm not shocked but did not think we'd win that series. Great job.
that was the 9th consecutive series win against miss st.
I am not sure if we won that last game or Mistake lost it. Our hitting is still suspect. Pitching is pretty good.
not fucking up is a big part of the game.
a win is a win.
Always great to get a top 5 series win.
Take care of your home series and keep your head above water in the away series, and you're usually set up well for the postseason.
I'm still very dubious about our lineup. We are hitting a shitload of ground balls, even to the point where the announcers were talking about it yesterday during the middle innings.
I've said this ad naseum this year, but we seem to make a lot of hay on errors and free base runners, similar to how we were offensively in 2023 and 2024. The difference in game 3 yesterday was that we scored 4 two out runs in different innings by virtue of a wild pitch, a passed ball, and a fielding error which allowed 2 more runs instead of ending the inning.
At a certain point, you have to hit the ball out of the infield and be able to push across runs the old fashioned way, especially down the stretch and in the postseason.
To be fair to the lineup, there were several fly balls caught on the warning track that the wind caught that would've otherwise been out. Helfrick, Kozeal, Ruiz, and (I believe) Souza all hit balls that would've been homers in any other weather.

Lol they're such a poverty program that wishes they could be as good as us :sarcasm:
Arkansas State won their series against #7 Southern Miss, and UT-Arlington won their series against #24 UTSA.
Those 2 losses aren't looking so bad.
We're not as good as we think we should be, and we're probably not as bad as we think we are.
This may be a year where someone peaks late to win it. Like the year OM won it.

SC's team OPS against their 6 power conference opponents thus far is .360. They're horrible at the plate. They may be worse than Missouri. If we don't sweep it'll be a huge disappointment.
In this conference you need the sweeps against the down teams to give yourself some buffer for dropping a series here and there.
Put it in the other three but we play UNC (University of Northern Colorado) tonight at 6:00 and tomorrow at 3:00. All on SECN+
1st hitter for UNC walks on 4 pitches. Steals second. Steals third and scores when Helfrick throws into left field. They have a runner at second, no outs. 1-0 them. And Brissey plunks the next batter.
Then a base hit to left. Run scores. 2-0 them, no outs, runners at first and second.
2-0 mid first.
Brissey is asshoe tonight
Ruiz crushes one to the HogPen in left. 2-1. Kozeal is HBP.
2-2 after 1.
Bats quiet tonight (shocker). As usual, we've made hay on free base runners.
Aside from Ruiz's solo homer, we've played runs via groundout, walk, walk, walk.
We're lucky to be up in this one. Oir bats tonight are again, uninspiring.
We've hit into 2 or 3 inning ending double plays tonight.
I've harped on this all season, but we are hitting a shitload of ground balls this year and it's frustrating the hell out of me. I haven't looked at the data, but I would assume we're way up on GIDPs as well due to that (I know I've seen my fair share).
It's one thing to put the ball in play, but when you can't hit the ball out of the infield it's very concerning.
We've definitely hit into more than we've turned.
We don't hit for power and we don't hit in clutch situations. I'm hoping everyone gets hot at the same time around June. Wishful thinking eh?

That's the main issue. Our power numbers are way down.
The most damning stat is slugging %.
We're only slugging .452 as a team this year, and we've mostly played a weak OOC schedule (which usually inflates your power numbers). Compare that to last year when we slugged .547 for the entire season, which includes the SEC games and Omaha.
I have three free tickets for today's game if anyone wants them. Section 100, Row T. Hit me up.

That's the "I don't know why we aren't sitting slider" guy when we faced them with Kopps.
We have our own share of curses, but South Carolina has the Costello curse.
When we played them for the right to go to the finals in 2012 they were two time defending champs. Perry Costello handed them an unearned trip to the championship series, where karma did what it does and sent them home. Since then their program has been basically ass.
Notice how we never benefit from karma correcting these teams who profit from the fuckings we receive. But at least they get their dicks knocked in the dirt for taking advantage of our misery.
We're not just hitting home runs, we're hitting fucking bombs. Aloy just hit one over the trees in center field, I mean over them thar mountains.

These guys should apologize to Norm
We might want to retire these jerseys.
We just legitimately may not be good.
We should have lost the SC series but for a 2 out error, and a Florida team with a notoriously bad offense is up 4-0 in the early innings on us.
I'm sure someone will throw this in my face if we win, but we cannot hit with RISP. That will ultimately be this team's Achilles heel and prevent us from doing anything in June.
Kozeal is the guy to get us going I was just foolin' about
Unpopular opinion: Helfrick is average as a catcher. He lets a lot of balls get by him and is not real accurate throwing to second.
A lot of gesticulating for a questionable-at-worst pitch. Did he tell Souza to try swinging the bat now and then?
And we leave 2 more on. Down 4-0.
Florida being unranked at 20-6 while we are #4 at 19-7 seems entirely based on where we each started in preseason rankings.
Furk
Sullivan wearing batting gloves is the gayest thing I've seen tonight, and I've watched a couple innings of softball.

Spot on.
Our SEC hitting stats are pretty bad, and the top half of the order has really struggled against SEC pitching.
Kozeal - .192
Robinett - .160
Kuhio - .095
Stewart - .080
Our starters' ERA in conference is bad as well. Gaeckle's is 5.25, Dietz is 5.56, and Fisher is 7.71.
Gaeckle belongs in the pen.
Quote from: Boarat on Mar 28, 2026, 07:48 AMGaeckle belongs in the pen.
Yep.

completely different pitcher out of the one versus starting.
I think the problem is that for as deep as our pen supposedly is, our rotation options are limited.
Well that was disappointing sitting through the cold last night. I expected some effort and fight since it was Norm night. Our dugout was dead from the jump.
I'm in the minority I'm sure, but I don't like the way Helfrick has called games this year - especially with Gaeckle. Now, Gabe may just not be a Friday night guy, and that's ok; but he's not pitching with any attitude at all. And Helfrick sure isn't helping.
Five position players wore a donut last night. Totally uninspired effort all around. Somebody needs to take charge. And a lot of them need to start living up to their billing. We may not deserve our ranking, but we're better than this. We have a lot of heads up asses right now.
But hey, I did get one of those sweet throwback hats. So I got that going for me.
Pitching is asshoe again today
Just turned it on in time to see Souza watch 2 straight pitches right down Broadway and then swing at strike 3 in the dirt.
That's definitely an M.O. for him, but Jesus H. our players seem to collectively have the worst plate approach in the SEC.
Guys like Souza, Kuhio, Slavens, Diggs, et al. are all the same. They'll spot you at least 1 strike, and if you get them 0-2 or 1-2 you can pretty much throw anything and anywhere you want and you've got them.

I've watched DVH make hundreds of galaxy brain moves, but they all seem to be backfiring this year.
Eaves just came unglued in the course of one inning.
Sousa should get into golf. If you throw a pitch near his ankles, he is going to swing at it.
This pitcher is clowning our guys.

8 of our last 12 runs have scored either by a wild pitch or a walk. Not a good look.
Well, I guess if you're down 3 and the tying run comes to the plate, Aloy is a good option at the plate.
I bet he takes strike one down the middle, swings at something outside and away for strike two and swings through an elevated pitch for strike three.
Had strike one and two backwards. He did halfway swing on strike 2 though. So that was good.
Well, he made contact at least.

Nearly all of our hitters do this. Mind boggling. I wonder if they are being told to take it. If so, whoever is doing that needs to be fired. They also do not protect the plate when they get 2 strikes.

Quote from: Son of Spam on Mar 28, 2026, 04:16 PMAnd we lose 7-4. Not enough wild pitches or walks.
I said early in the season that I was extremely uncomfortable with how much of our scoring in non-conference games was charity runs via errors, walks, and wild pitches.
I thought maybe we'd find it at the plate, but we seem to getting markedly worse in SEC play.

I don't think we are in the top 10-15 in hitting, fielding, or pitching categories in the nation . That is not us.
Usually you can count on decent pitching and elite defense. We're having to play guys out of position because our offense is so bad. Brumbaugh and Pompey not hitting has been a huge issue.
Did we just whiff in the portal this year? Pompey and Niu have obviously disappointed. Were we expecting too much from a freshman Brumbaugh? He was D1 Baseball's preseason SEC freshman of the year so we weren't alone.
Seems that way

At the end of the day, this is just a shit job of roster construction. Hell, DVH would probably say as much over a beer. For whatever reason these guys haven't gelled, aren't producing, and haven't lived up to billing.
Stewart has been absolutely horrendous against SEC pitching. He's hitting .069 in conference games.
Pompey is a guess hitter who has a ton of swing and miss and is incapable of drawing walks. He can crush it when he barrels one up, but that's too infrequent for the astronomical number of strikeouts and horrendous swings he takes, especially in 2 out situations. He has 42 (!) strikeouts on the season and just 9 walks. For context, no other player even has 30 (next highest is Niu with 28).
Pinning our hopes on Brumbaugh (and him being a complete failure as a freshman) at shortstop also put us into a hole on the left side of the infield. I certainly didn't expect him to be the second coming of Aloy, but I also expected him to be better than John Bolton.
Hell, even our lineup anchors like Helfrick, Kozeal, and Aloy have sucked as well. Aloy has sucked out loud while the other 2 have flowing under the radar. 2 of those guys are under the Mendoza Line in SEC play, and Helfrick isn't far off.
Robinett is also more miss than hit. I may be old school, but I hate getting nothing offensively from first base under any circumstances, and I'd certainly prefer to get better than a .567 OPS. The last few years we seem to be getting these glorified .200 hitters in guys like McLaughlin, Robinett, Rocco Peppi, et al. at first base. Maybe I'm over-emphasizing it, but first base seems to be a position we've been consistently whiffed on offensively in the portal and HS recruiting.
Ruiz seems to be the lone bright spot out of the portal this year.

I don't know why he is frustrated. He assembled the talent. All the same issues we have had year to year are still present and accentuated by the lack of talent this year. Nate still sucks as a hitting coach. I'll give Hobbs a pass as our pitching staff should be better than what it is. With that said, if DVH didn't see this coming then I don't know what to say.

Why I pay the dues right here. Well said.
I'm assuming we had to have lost out on a portal SS. Brumbaugh wasn't expected to make it to campus and DVH hadn't started a freshman in 20 years anyway. Feels like it snowballed from there when we had to shift guys around in the infield.
Nui out. Ruiz in CF and Turner in LF.
Odds we get swept?
On SECN in a minute.
Welp, top of the 1st and Turner has already given up a single, hit a batter, and an RBI single.
Our offense has been horrendous this year, but it's overshadowed our pitching staff being very pedestrian and gettable.
I'm willing to at least give Hobbs a pass. His staffs have carried our team for the last several years while Thompson's lineups spent most of the season playing with their food.
We're seeing the ball well too. Got one past the infield to tie it 1-1.

Interesting lineup decisions from DVH today.
Rutenbar at 1B and leading off.
Turner in LF.
Ruiz in CF.
Robinett at 3B.
Ruiz and Turner in the 8 and 9 hole, while Aloy and Souza are 5 and 6.
Maybe he's trying to get some decent bats at the bottom of the order.

Helfrick's last AB was the epitome of that.
Tying run is on 3rd, 2 outs, and he strikes out swinging out of his shoes trying to hit one to Alma.
Our inability to bat runners around the old fashioned way is so typical of Nate Thompson's tenure. Everything is either home run, strike out, or charity in the form of free baserunners and errors.

I was listening to the Southeastern 16 podcast on the way to work this morning and they were talking about how our pitching was too elite for us to be down for long. I just don't see it at all. Our pitching has looked very suspect this year, and I don't like our rotation.
So, do we get our asses kicked by Missouri State tomorrow? They have been tough in the past.

It's obvious we whiffed on the bats in the portal, but man did we come up empty handed in terms of pitching. Between him, McElvain, and Kircher, basically all we got were some midweek relief arms.
It's far cry from pulling Friday night guys like Root and Hunter Hollan out of the portal.
With Thompson on staff the hitting woes don't surprise me nearly as much as the pitching issues do.
I'll give Hobbs a pass. We always have solid arms.
Nate should have been fired years ago and DVH is going to live long enough to become the villan because of it. Dave was already on shaky ground with many who have been on the "he needs to retire" wagon. If this season doesn't turn around quick the axles may break with the numbers who will be climgbing on.

However, like others have said, I'm willing to give Hobbs a pass. Quote from: Hogfan58 on Apr 02, 2026, 08:06 PMWhen does basketball season start next year?
I'd start following softball but I'm pretty sure I'm the common denominator as to why our teams shit the bed. I won't subject the ladies with my cursed fandom.
We didn't get run ruled. I haven't put my beer hat on yet this year. Even when bases were loaded I just haven't felt the hype.
Will we hit 20 wins?
we lose 10-1 but it was so bad we had a position player pitch the 8th? Have we ever done that before in game 1 of an SEC series? 20-1 I can see but 10-1? Who's arm are we trying to save? why are 19 pitchers on the roster if half can't pitch?
it sure seems the last 2 games of the Carolina series were a major red flag, I mean they fired their coach after game 1 and we barely got a split in those last 2.
I see we had another outfield error, how many is that this season?
Red flags started right after the team got back from Arlington.
I think DVH might just say, "Fuck it" and retire.
Quote from: BleedinRed on Apr 02, 2026, 10:42 PMRed flags started right after the team got back from Arlington.
If we're being honest, DVH has basically been trying to tell us this team is ass for a month with his comments at several points following the Arlington series.
Talking about approaches, guys not buying in or not taking to coaching, Gaeckle's outing against Florida being the "worst pitched game since we've been here," casually throwing out the line "some guys need to learn this isn't how we do things at Arkansas," he's basically been signaling for weeks that this team hasn't gelled and sort of sucks.
Quote from: GeoHogsGeo on Apr 03, 2026, 11:17 AMI think DVH might just say, "Fuck it" and retire.
Eh, I don't think so. DVH doesn't strike me as the type to leave on those terms, especially given how close we were last year and the fact you can flip a roster overnight now via the portal.
I think it's more likely that this season lights a fire and we go all out to get some hitters and arms (like we did after 2024) and may potentially be what fuels moving on from Nate as well.
Quote from: DrMongoose on Apr 02, 2026, 10:06 PMwe lose 10-1 but it was so bad we had a position player pitch the 8th? Have we ever done that before in game 1 of an SEC series?
He was recruited as a pitcher as well. He threw in the fall. They thought (everyone thought) the pitching staff would be the strength of this team and they wouldn't need him this year.
It wasn't like we just put in the SS to pitch.
Tony will go to his alma mater and Mizzou will be yet another SEC team to win a natty before us.

Maybe...I mean he's never been one to show much during postgame pressers, but he looks...lethargic? Gassed? Idk, maybe he's just as confused as we are on what the fuck is the problem with the inherent talent that isn't materlizing.
Quote from: Boarat on Apr 03, 2026, 01:27 PMTony will go to his alma mater and Mizzou will be yet another SEC team to win a natty before us.
There is a better chance of me coaching Arkansas basketball than there is of Tony V going to Missouri for anything other than to coach the visiting team. Aside from the fact that they aren't going to spend the money it would take to get any top tier coach, he still has a little red ass over them picking the SEMO coach over him in 2017.

I didn't know you were an Auburn fan. Learn something new every day.
Jake Marciano (Rocky's son?) pitching for Auburn. We go three up, three down. Shocked, I tell you.
I think we are missing Dirk's PBP.
Another error. E-3 as Rutenbar drops a throw from Helfrick. We must have the lowest fielding percentage in the league.
Said I was done. But here I am.
1-0 Auburn. Runner on first, 1 out. We are an average high school team.
I think Auburn beat that tag at second.
Quote from: BleedinRed on Apr 03, 2026, 06:15 PMI think Auburn beat that tag at second.
Me, too.
We got 2 on, no outs and Robinett watches strike three. Now, 1 out. Any bets on us scoring?
I fucking hate Nate. Teach your batters to protect when the count has 2 strikes.
With a WHP shouldn't you have more right handed hitters? I think they said we have 6 lefties in the lineup. Doesn't the ball tail away from lefties? Also, bases loaded, but Aloy is up for the next strikeout. (He flies out behind second base) .
Just make contact.
Quote from: Son of Spam on Apr 03, 2026, 06:27 PMAlso, bases loaded, but Aloy is up for the next strikeout.

Turner will strikeout here
Aaaaand, we don't score. Another shock.
2 on no out, bases loaded 1 out, and we don't score.
I hate this team. I love DVH but he needs to be forced to retire if he doesn't move on from Nate.
We apparently burned out our clutch years ago.

Yes. Your DH should at least be able to hit.
2-0 Auburn after 2. Apparently, Auburn knows how to move runners around and score.
Leadoff double, followed by a strikeout. Then a chopper to first by, checks notes, Robinett. Runner at third , 2 outs now. Aaaaand, we don't score.
Dang, that was a good play in right by the bad guys
DVH "there we go again" while on the mic. He's over it all.
I think that runner was safe at second, too. I think we are getting a few calls because they feel sorry for us.
We have only struck out 4 times through 4 innings. Progress!
Helfrick over the big wall to put us on the board. And the at-bat started with a bunt attempt lol.

EDIT — I may start calling for DVH to be forced into retirement if he doesn't stop putting Aloy into the lineup.
How is Aloy hitting above the Mendoza line?
Take the bat away from Aloy, and hit him with it.
I think the whole team needs their eyes examined. Who was it a year or two ago that got contacts and began stroking the ball?
Dietz pitching a hell of a game. 2 runs in 16 innings though cannot be overcome.

Why do we always get fucked by the umps? Even when there is video evidence we get fucked.
Edit: guess he was safe.
At least the start our starter went 7 tonight.
Turner looked like a grade schooler swing at a pitch at his eyes.
Well apparently this weekend is Auburn vs. The Arkansas Helfrickbacks.

Helfrick! Again.

Bases loaded, no oits, and Stewart goes down looking. Aloy up, yawn. And he screws himself into the ground on his first swing. Fouls off strike 2. Full count. And he gets an RBI. However out at first. 1-0 Hogs.
Another error by Robinett pulling Rutenbar off the bag at first on a throw. We have to be averaging at least 1 error a game.

We're not used to getting a lead. Of course we are used to giving it up.
Good news is Auburn is generating a ton of traffic because fisher sucks. Bad news is it doesn't get better once fisher is pulled.
Why in the world is Kircher pitching?
Jesus. This is embarrassing.
Why put Kircher in before Coil??
Why not just put Coil in to relieve Fisher in the first place?
This staff has been making some terrible personnel decisions lately.
I think they are desperately trying to find someone who can play the game. They know the train is off the tracks. All that's left is to just lay down and have a good bleed.
Absolutely embarrassing inning there at the plate.
I legitimately don't understand DVH being emphatic about going TBA for the game 3 starter after last weekend's debacle and turning right back around and giving Fisher the ball.
Just last inning, putting Kircher in the give up a run before putting Coil in was also confusing as hell.
The fact that Aloy is still in this lineup is mind boggling.
I yield to no one in affection for DVH, but he's made some really questionable decisions and moves this year.
Aloy watches two down the chute. Finally gets plunked. About the only way he could reach.
We get the leadoff man on and of course we promptly ground into a double play.
Falling further behind isn't going to help us catch up.
This team is basically the 2023 team with bad pitching and defense.
Three hits through 5 innings. We are on fire... :sarcasm:
Just fucking leave Nate in Alabama.
This is unconscionable how bad this offense is.
We have the quickest futile innings I've ever seen. We get to 0-2 and 1-2 counts constantly. We consistently see 6-8 pitch innings from opposing pitchers.
If he won't move on from Nate, Dave really does need to go.
Good news is we are really close to being average.
We should grab Wes from Georgia before it's too late.
It's rare to miss the pitch so bad it hits the backstop and comes back to the pitcher.
Quote from: BleedinRed on Apr 04, 2026, 03:57 PMWe should grab Wes from Georgia before it's too late.
Correct. I'll never say it's time to fire DVH, but if we do have an opening I'd love Wes coming here.
is there a towel we can throw in? Rage quit the game?
I don't want to see any of these guys that can come back, back next year. Get a whole new squad.
Let the rains come. Why are they still playing?
Aloy has another chance at an RBI. What will he do?
Another one stranded by swinging out of the shoes
8 total runs this weekend.

Robinett and Aloy are known issues, but Kozeal's slump has flown under the radar. He's been bad in SEC games for a while, and was something like 1-13 with 7 K's against Auburn.
Aloy is a lost cause and Robinett is only playing because Pompey is somehow worse, but we need Kozeal to get right.
Tonight is the game where we run rule them
The spray chart on Aloy this year has to be one line to 3rd base.
On the telecast when he was at bat in the 2nd, Eklund was talking about how he's been hitting choppers to 3rd and how his swing is screwed up.
Right on cue, Aloy hits a high chopper a 3rd for a 5-3 putout.

What can't we turn two when the ball is hit to the second basemen?
2 outs, man on 1st, and Gibler somehow walks a batter after starting with an 0-2 count. Next batter singles a runner home.

We're about to walk in a tying run
Pompey makes an incredible play on a ground ball and Robinett can't make a dig that most 12U first basemen can make.
They load the bases and then drive in the tying run.
If you're a first baseman who brings nothing offensively (which I hate), you sure as hell better be the second coming of Keith Hernandez defensively.
Miley could drop bangers if she stopped trying to be as insane as possible
Helfrick could do us a big favor by launching it over the wall

I thought any time you got up 10 after the losing team has batted 7 times, it was a run rule. In other words I didn't think there was an exception where the home team gets the bottom of their inning if it's not the 7th inning.
If we give up 11 runs then I'm letting go of the rope.
Pretty sure the home is always allowed to get their last at bat regardless of being down by 10+ in late innings

ABS should be mandatory at every level above high school ball.
The one that got Ruiz was over, but Aloy's strike three never had the plate.
Guess we're waiting for the 8th again
Another error to turn a first base out into a runner on second.
They stole second and third at the same time. They are impressive at that.
Helfrick hauled ass for that triple.
And then Niu sacced him in.
Would be great if Gaeckle could hold this and we make a comeback.
Sorry im late but I'm here now. Let the ass beating commence.
Great at bat by Aloy to draw the walk. Even better given that the called strike two was six inches outside.
Tied 2-2 mid 7th. Souza singled up the middle scoring Ruiz.
Tie game, two on, zero outs.
Pompey strikes out swinging at a slider.
Peck hits into a double play.
Midway through the 7th. The 8th inning will be here soon enough.
Missed opportunity
Encouraging that Dave pinch hit for Robinett.
Don't think I've ever seen Gaeckle throw this many breaking balls.

Quote from: FNG on Apr 13, 2026, 08:52 AMWhat's the story on Zack Stewart? Benched? Injured?
I've looked at various sites and nothing is mentioned. I'm guessing with Ruiz coming back, the emergence of Rutenbar, plus Aloy and Pompey showing signs of breaking out of their slumps, that playing time is going to get harder and harder to get. I wouldn't be surprised if Rutenbar ends up playing more 1st base because Robinett's fielding may be not enough to keep him in the lineup. If that happens it will be easier to start Stewart at RF/DH.

Agree with this.
Rutenbar has hit himself into the lineup, so we have to find a spot for him. First base is the natural choice given he's a catcher and because Robinett isn't hitting or fielding well.
I like Robinett but he's bringing nothing to the table offensively at a position that is largely a hitting position. If you're a first baseman who can't hit, you'd better be the second coming of Keith Hernandez defensively or you have to sit. He's hitting a team low .233 overall, and in SEC games he's hitting .180 and has an OPS of .528.
I would not have guess Robinett was batting a team worse at .233. Hate it for him.
Quote from: BleedinRed on Apr 13, 2026, 12:16 PMI would not have guess Robinett was batting a team worse at .233. Hate it for him.
To be fair to him, I only focused on the 10-11 guys who are making up the lineup at the moment and not Brumbaugh, who was hitting a horrendous .140 before he took a seat for good.

Only 34 errors this season (before today)? Is that right? The record is 115.

Gotta be deflating having to keep playing while you watch all the fans file out.

Good point.
There's no way our football team will score this many against them in September.
I told my wife in the 2nd or 3rd this felt like a 21-20 type game. Like watching a coach pitch game. I wasn't far off. Good job BF and shame on you at the same time.
They scored in every inning but the 2nd. That's insane.
My wife and I usually drive the 5 and half hours over for a few games a year. I am not even interested in seeing this team this year. And I hate that. We struck out on the portal this year. And several of the players that came back aren't worth a shit. We are an average team at best. Below average at worst. No title this year.
Watched DVH's postgame presser.
He was royally pissed about the defense and called out Souza specially fucking up a DP ball and allowing more runs in the early big inning.
He also said that our 0-2 pitching approach was horrendous. I didn't realize this but they hit an 3 run HR, 2 run HR, and 2 run double, and one other big hit all on 0-2 counts.

Quote from: Thin Red Swine on Apr 18, 2026, 09:14 PMLike calling out Hobbs or laying it on the players?
He didn't really specify or call out any one person, just that we kept giving up big hits with 0-2 counts and 2 outs. He did give a pithy comment about "well the pitching was the pitching today."
He did call out Souza specifically, but said "the second baseman" and then went on at length about the dropped pop up and the double play ball he fucked up and how that led to things spiraling.

Obviously it sucks to lose like that, and to lose the series after looking so good in game one, but the takeaway for me is we went toe-to-toe with the best team in the league for basically the entire weekend until the pitching shit the bed today.
We're 9-9 with four series left. Sweeping Mizzou this weekend would be ideal. Then you'd be 12-9 with three series left and two of them at home against Ole Miss and Oklahoma, neither of whom are world beaters, then finish at Kentucky who is middle of the pack.
I think a 17-13 league finish isn't out of the cards, and would keep us in the hosting conversation. Not saying we'd be a lock but I think we'd get the benefit of the doubt considering our brand and recent success.

Quote from: GeoHogsGeo on Apr 21, 2026, 07:02 AMIt's what this team deserves for their effort this season.
It's also what the coaches deserve for their shit job of roster construction.
They got a wake up call after the 2023 and 2024 seasons when we had to have elite pitching and defense both years to carry terrible offenses when we were trotting out guys like Rowland, Bolton, and Diggs and ultimately got bounced in our own regional.
DVH said F this and went all in on bats after the 2024 season and pulled guys like Iredale, Davalon, Maxwell, Kozeal, and even Justin Thomas of the portal, and we ended the season with 7 out of 9 guys in our lineup hitting above .300. We're going to have to do that again.
Niu hit .276 at Marshall and never got near .300 at New Orleans, but he's going to suddenly be able to hit SEC pitching? Please. Same for Stewart who hit .269 at Missouri State. Conversely, Ruiz hit .388 at Lamar, and not surprisingly he's been the lone pickup out of the portal. The lone aberration is Pompey, who raked at Tech and has been terrible here.
Lastly, the hubris to believe that we could finally make Gaeckle a starter (despite trying and failing last year), that Fisher could suddenly morph from quasi mid-week guy to Sunday starter, and that we didn't need starters from the portal is incredible to me.
Fast forward to present day when our defense is terrible because we have too many guys playing out of position, we have no RF, our CF and 3B are bottom of the order hitters, we're getting nothing offensively from 1B, and our leadoff hitter is an unheralded freshman.
Working on a shutout through the top half of the first inning.

I'm going to write a New York... Post bestseller about becoming a champion-level pitcher when your opponent is the Arkansas Razorbacks. Thirteen chapters each with their own unique way of saying "Throw it low and outside."
Aloy hit a 114 mph bouncer to second base, who caught it and threw out Souza heading home from third. Wasn't even a force play.
Still have runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs in the bottom 2nd.
Nevermind, Turner strikes out on another low breaking ball. More wasted opportunities.
Had runners at the corners with no outs the 2nd and couldn't plate a run.
Robinett strikes out when all we needed was a ball in play.
Souza thrown out at home.

This is by far my least favorite baseball team I can recall. They're bad at everything.
Their starting pitcher just threw 3 K's in the 5th inning.
It's so bad I've not seen RickB behind home plate in weeks.
Thank God for other teams errors. It's the only reliable way for us to score.
Consecutive fielding errors give us one run.
Bases loaded with one out. It's Aloy's time to shine at the plate.
A sac fly to bring in a tying run is better than I expected.
Bases loaded again after a walk. This guy's got a 3200 breaking ball, it's all he wants to throw, but he can't get it in the strike zone. And.... just threw that pitch past the catcher and let Stewart get in from 3rd. 3-2 us.
I take it back, we're really good at other teams making routine fielding errors and throwing wild pitches.
We've scored 17 runs this season on passed balls and wild pitches.
It's almost embarrassing how reliant we are on mistakes and charity runs.
The fact this team scored 22 against USC-E is a miracle.
Unreal
What... are we even doing?
Why the hell are we backpicking 3rd with 2 outs?

Subpar start for Eaves. That ball hasn't landed yet.
Meat
Has Eaves done quite literally anything noteworthy aside from diving into Lake Norm after the Supers last year?
Thanks for your 8 pitches, go hit the showers. That was a good K I thought.
Lol that balk call was crazy
If this is the state of their pitching then that two runs oughta do it for us.
Now we just need the pitching to hold on.
That will do it. Big bomb by Helfrick.
Finally good things happening
That ball was crushed.

We can't get a hit, but the bases have been walked full. Stewart at the plate with two outs and bases loaded.
Swing and a miss to take strike 2. 2-2 count, and another miss for K number 3. The bad, wasted the opportunity in the top of the first. The good - their starting ace threw 31 pitches.
At least we had one foul ball, the rest of our swings were misses
Hunter Dietz is 2 for 4, if the stats we're tracking here are "pitches thrown" and "home runs given up".
1 for 3 if the stat is "batters hit per pitches thrown."

To be fair to him, he's playing out of position because DVH and Nate decided to insanely pin their hopes on a true freshman instead of going and getting a SS out of the portal.

Watch. Our players that actually hit, watch the ball all the way to the plate. Others, like Aloy, are looking at the fence when they swing. You have to focus on the ball. Hand/eye coordination.

No joking, my first team meeting as Nate Thompson's replacement will lead off with "Who knows the difference between a pitch that's in the strike zone and one that isn't?"
Teams in college aren't even doing the Greg Maddux thing of confusing us with speed. They can throw a breaking ball that starts outside and goes further outside and we're swinging, but a 93 mph fastball down the center is watched. Good things generally happen to us when we swing at the pitches that are inside the zone. Crazy, I know.
Kozeal!
In the zone, swung at it, and Kozeal gets HR #12 and RBI #50

They seem excessively concerned with holding Helfrick on.

Like we could actually drive him in.
Pitching, hitting, and defense, it looks like we are sleep walking so far. Absolutely no energy whatsoever.
Cover the fucking bag. God we're sloppy.
Can we just claim the series win and head home?
Did someone give Fisher a dirty Sanchez? And who told him he could pitch?
I feel like we all should go do something else until the 8th inning.
We must be saving arms for Northwestern State
All of our infielders throw sidearm and Kozeal almost submarine. From watching the infield between innings. None from up by the ear that creates the hardest straightest throw.
Is sidearm the new hotness?
Absolutely terrible move by DVH to start Fisher today.
His ERA in SEC games coming into today was nearly 10, and he's been bad for several weeks now.
Gaeckle and Coil were both available to start in an opener role. This isn't some midweek, it's an SEC game against a beatable opponent that we need in our back pocket, especially to offset the Florida sweep and position us well going into the stretch.
Just bad coaching. Weird to say that about a DVH team, but he's made some legitimately questionable personnel moves this year.
We ain't gonna get no-hit.
SUCK IT TRUMAN.
This team is simply not good.
We're thin in quality pitching and for once lack bullpen depth.
We can't hit (as usual) and we suck in the field.
We can't hit bad pitching. We've scored 12 runs against one of the worst staffs in the SEC.
To top it off, DVH has been making some questionable lineup, rotation, and situational decisions I just haven't worked out this year.
I really don't see any other outcome besides us going 2 and done in someone else's regional. I just don't think we win a 2-3 matchup.
This might be worse than the Georgia debacle. We look 101% lifeless against a bad team.
lol just like the 1st inning they gave Stewart a hit on the 2B's flub that should have been an easy out. The ball wasn't even hard hit.
Worse than Little League scoring.
Never mind, there is now an E on the board.
I appreciate our dedication to finding creative ways to be thrown out
Fans come from all over to practically take over the Mizzou stadium.
Hogs lay an egg.
That's how we do.
We no longer own the eight inning. The eight inning gave us backshots.
Three hits through 8.
Arkansas, LSU and Tennessee are gonna be competing for 40-50 guys in the transfer portal.
Weren't no shutout, Neal.
Embarrassing last AB by Pompey.
And in Hog fashion, we strike out for the third out with the bases loaded.
A fitting end with the swing and miss on a low and outside breaking ball... with the bases loaded.
I totally get putting younger pitchers out there for the reps after the series is locked up, but our bats got 5 hits and 1 late run and just didn't look too interested.
First SEC home win for Missouri.
Wow.
Glad my nap lasted from the 2nd inning all the way to Pompey's at bat.
Wish it could have lasted three more pitches.
One of the more embarrassing Hog baseball games I've seen.
Bad coaching (inexplicable move by DVH to start Fisher, and then to send him BACK OUT in the 2nd to give up 2 more runs), godawful hitting (par for the course), bad fielding, and a team that just looked lazy and disinterested.
I'll say again, DVH has made some very questionable moves this season. I yield to few in my love for DVH, but I sure hope we haven't reached the "stubborn coach who refuses to change" stage of his career.
Yep, pitiful effort today.

Honestly, this has been DVH for 10 years now. He isn't doing anything this year he hasn't done for a decade now. Only difference is the talent level doesn't make up for it.

Nothing is more Arkansas than this.
I'm sure our fans were treated with the utmost respect from the few Mizzou fans that showed up. Thanks for the lackluster effort.

It actually looked about 1/3 Arkansas and 2/3 Mizzou. Of the 1000 or so people who were there.

Wow.
So this kind of thing happens in baseball too?
Wow. Impressive that it transcends the whole spectrum of Hog sports.

Correction - tonight's game was canceled.
This was a 2 game series, so they're just playing tomorrow's game as scheduled at 3pm.

Mid week bed shitting in progress. Down 2-0, 1 out, runner on first, top of the first.
Man, if we get run off the field today...
Fisher. Bro.
Tired of Fisher
Heck yeah we got the lead that they'll never take away from us now
We won 5-2. Fu Manchu guy looked good in the 9th.
