Title: Give Nolan a Statue
Post by: buff2.0 on Jun 22, 2025, 12:53 PM
Found some of my oldest posts on this board about the topic.

Quote from: buff2.0 on Oct 26, 2024, 10:01 PMBobby appreciates a winner.  Caesar Petrion would have gotten Nolan his own statue on day 1.

Quote from: buff2.0 on Jan 11, 2025, 05:30 PMSo has NOT building Nolan Richardson his own statue been helping us?

Now Bobby Bones is on board.  It seems spamming everyone on X after the LSU 9th inning meltdown is paying off.

Yeah, if they just opened up a fundraiser they could have 100k by the end of the week.

A huge bronze statute, I would say either a statue of him doing the "strollin with Nolan"  or him holding up the NC trophy.  Probably the trophy as Strollin might be too obscure for the young folks.

Exercise those demons and give the man his statue.

Yuri will see this as money that could be better spent on some 3rd team bench warmer's NIL payment.

This will have to be raised by private funds and installed in the dead of night.

How much would a 10' bronze statue cost, ballpark?

I mean, woopig.org has a certain high-roller that could probably finance it with his Lake Hamilton money if he is REALLY as rich as he claims...

Even if it's $200,000, it's a drop in the bucket to the school's budget.  Just shut down the anthropology department and reroute those funds.

It really goes back to 1969. Being screwed out the national championship in 1978 by Notre Dame AP voters.
I think us cussing Hatfield when he lost(in especially Arkansas fashion) to Texas in LR may be part of it. Atwood not falling on the fumble against Miami in 1985. Several times during hooties run, we had a team that was good enough to compete and Nutt derped away our chances. Petrino had a few like not scooping and scoring against Ohio State and the referees screwing us against Auburn. Then killing the program by firing him. Bert was on the cusp of success with Alabama on the ropes and Kody Walker fumbles untouched out of the end zone, the ball surrounded by Razorback players.

Most of my Razorback memories are bad.  :suicide:

That's my question.

The only possible hold up at this point would be some octogenarian mega donor who's told them he's writing the program out of his will if they ever build a statue for "that n****r."

I remember hearing gossip from the big country clubs up that way that there were big money NWA people who wanted Nolan fired in 1991-92, right in the middle of the best run in program history.  Some of those guys are undoubtedly still alive and probably still carrying whatever grudge they had back then.

Word was that, when they had the vote to put Nolan's name on the court, there were people in the room who would only vote yes if we also did something equal for Eddie.  What's the difference between Nolan and Eddie, other than the fact that Nolan actually won a Division 1 championship here?

Your possible holdup may be close to the truth but I doubt it's a donor.

The fact it has not happened and that there has been no discussion of such a statue speaks volumes. But they name the engineering building for John White....

There was a lot of butthurt when he was hired and more after he was fired and sued.

There were people who didn't want an black chancellor, which we have now.

The street and court are probably enough in those people's minds which is sad.

Someone put the bug in Cal's ear, he would get it done.

Seriously, with 3d Printing, shouldn't shit like this be almost easy?

3D print a model of hyper-realistic statue of Nolan with sacrificial material, can be done even in segments, encase in ceramic, then inject Bronze...  I mean, it SHOULD take much of the "art" out of it and make super realistic statues kinda easy?

Can do it from a photograph even and come up with an almost perfect 3D print.  Literally, some art students could do it and it would could be perfect for almost nothing.  Just keep doing it until the print is perfect and then encase and do the bronze.  Once you get the print right, after that it should be pretty easy for anyone with even marginal skill.

10' should be big enough or do we want 20'?

As far as I know Nolan never drank vodka on the bench during games or knocked up a coed (allegedly).

Not that those are necessarily bad things mind you...

My dad turned 83 yesterday. He was his normal self until a year and a half ago. Something happened between summer at the lake and Christmas. He went from moving around about as well as an 81 year old can to barely moving faster than a snails pace. His demeanor changed, he developed dementia. I swear his body tried to die and he wouldn't let it so he could be with Mom.

Well the site you looked it up on was wrong. I remember way more about that game than I should. It was on CBS from the orange bowl and was played the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 1988. We were 10-0 and ranked #8 and they were ranked #3 after losing to Notre Dame by one point earlier in the year.

Seriously, that statue could be 3d Printed in 3 parts fairly easily, lower half, upper half and the head.  Keep printing the head until you get it fucking perfect.  Get the fucking essence of Nolan just fucking right and keep doing it until you get it right.  The body should be easy enough.  then put them all together.  encase it in ceramic, harden and then bake/melt out all the printed material.  Now you have a perfect fucking shell for your perfect Nolan statue.

Seriously, some art majors could knock that shit out in a week.  Then it would be down to finding a foundry to do it.

We could crowdfund that shit in a week if we had permission to plant it in front of the entrance.

No shit, Woopig.org could pass the hat and probably come up with 1/2 the money for it in under a week.

You're right. It even got the score wrong.

Per Grok -

The Arkansas Razorbacks and Miami Hurricanes have played each other in football a few times over the years. Based on historical records, here are the known matchups: - 1985: Arkansas played at Miami's Orange Bowl Stadium on September 7, losing a close one, 24-15. The Razorbacks, coached by Ken Hatfield, nearly upset the No. 4 Hurricanes. - 1987: They faced off in Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium, where Miami dominated, 51-7, under coach Jimmy Johnson. - 1988: Arkansas returned to Miami's Orange Bowl Stadium on September 10, falling to the top-ranked Hurricanes, 51-18. These are the primary documented games, all during the 1980s. The Razorbacks and Hurricanes don't have a long football rivalry, so these matchups stand out. No earlier games, like from the 1960s or 1970s, appear in the records I have, and nothing more recent either. If you're thinking of a specific game outside these years, let me know more details, and I'll dig deeper! Want me to break down one of these games further?

No worries. There are 4 things I'll always remember about that game

1. Kendall trainor hadn't misssed a field goal in 10 games and early in the game he kicked an almost 60 yarder that hit the crossbar and bounced over.

2. John Bland started the game and Groveys first play from scrimmage, he handed the ball off to Barry Foster and faked an option around the corner. The entire Miami defense chased him and foster went 80 yards for a touchdown.

3. In the second half on 3rd and goal, grovey ran about 200 yards even went past mid field I think before he finally found Foster for a touchdown.

4. CBS put a graph up that stated every Miami loss in the past 2 years had a theme of 31. They had lost to Notre Dame earlier in the year 31-30. At the time, the score was 16-15 Arkansas (which added up to 31). The very next play, Atwater dropped the interception and they kicked a field goal on that drive.

It really is hard to be humble. Put me down for a couple of Big Tex sized Nolan statues on campus.

Now I remember it better. Gee, thanks for reminding me just how heartbreaking it was.  :D

I was 9. Pretty sure that was the first football game I ever cried over.

Quote from: HOGSRUNWILD on Jun 23, 2025, 06:00 PMSeriously, with 3d Printing, shouldn't shit like this be almost easy?

I was thinking a chained sawed statue. Some random woopigger probably has the skills, then a few others go tow it there and plant it up front.

In Minecraft of course.

I really, REALLY want to someone with the horsepower to get it done to just do it, do it well and big and awesome, to do it and park it and DARE them to remove it.

If it looked like that picture or just him standing there holding up the trophy and was good looking, the outrage from the fanbase would be insane if they tried to remove it.

A statue of Nolan, Rose, and their daughter would be a nice touch. Toss in a replica of the horse some asshole shot while we're at it. No wonder Nolan lived with resentment.
