Haven't really seen this discussed here. We are now 16 teams and still at 8 conference games. Why are we not moving to 9 games now? Or does it not matter due to the elimination of divisions? With a 9 games every team would have 3 permanent games and rotate 6+6 so every team plays the other 15 teams twice in four years. People bitch because it could eilinate certain rivalries but fuck they already did that as we were forced to fucking change from lsu to Missouri for thay dumb shit after decades of rivilary.

It's an obvious move that should have been rolled out last season when the league had all 16 teams in place.
If it will make the SEC more money, I'm sure it will happen.
Wonder if the hold up is to see what the inevitable restrictions/guidelines on the transfer portal & NIL will be so that they can maximize their profits or protect Alabama (whichever solution presents itself first)?
Why exacatly doe the SEC need to go to a 9 game conference schedule?

SEC will want to renegotiate contracts to go to a 9 game schedule.
16 less games of bama vs mercer replaced with 16 games of Tennessee vs LSU.
We'll get more eyeballs on tvs we want more money.

that's why we are discussing it mother fucker!
Why is bama playing a bad FCS E Illinois team late November when other conferences are all playing conference or rivalries? These November non conference games are awful.
espn is willing to pay the conference a grip of money on top of the current deal for a 9 game schedule. reports are they have offered $50-80 million more.
the sec wants a playoff format that gets as many sec teams in as they can. the article i linked touches on that.

When the other conferences are stacked top to bottom with the best teams in the country then I'll care what the other conferences are doing in realtion to the SEC.

Why? Are you not going to tell us why the SEC should go to 9 games? Do you have an opinion on the subject?
Playing 8 conference games or 9; I don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things. For Arkansas, it is most likely one more guaranteed loss a year. Who wants that?

They're going to need the bowls to agree to take 5-7 teams to get the bottom tier coaches/programs on board as well.

I just stated above in my post can you not read? I don't see you posting anything of substance so I started a thread about it because it's slow af on here
I want to do away with permanent pairings and let the entire league cycle thru each other more quickly...that's about the only way we'll ever be a "family" of programs isn't it? Otherwise 16 teams is just going to feel awkward.
I enjoyed Arkansas playing South Carolina and that was an unlikely "rivalry" every year...it was more of a rivalry than Mizzou ever will be. But like always Arkansas got fucked out of something that was kind of working. I think both fans would agree that they enjoyed the friendly rivalry between our schools. I've talked to their fans in the past and they miss those yearly games.
Certainly it makes sense to have some kind of arranged rivalry marriage between Arkansas and Mizzou but we'll always act like we're the hot girl that is way too good and Mizzou will always act like the weird guy that's too eager to seek approval. We can't get up for them because ooh...gross.

I think the three permanent/six rotating is the best possible option. Give us texass (they can't help it), Ole Miss, and Missouri, then rotate everyone else every other year.

It is pretty slow.
Playing 9 confernece games does not benefit Arkansas so I'm against it. I don't care about historic rivalries. All 8 (or 9 if they go that direction) should rotate each year.

I've seen this episode before being a Hog fan. Rest assured, the cosmos will make it so every team we rotate to has the season of their program.

100%.
If they do lock in set teams you can bet our permanents will be Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri.
I think that tends to happen to us anyway regardless if it's in conference or out...by the time we get to play that team they are almost always good and a good amount of the time we just missed them being shitty by a couple years.
That's exactly why we shouldn't dismiss our Liberty bowl championship run fellas. It's a great time to be alive!

Playing in a 16 team SEC doesn't benefit Arkansas on the field either but it sure as hell pays well.
1964 isn't coming back, we've been to Atlanta 3 times in 25+ years, it is time to face the reality of the situation.
You care more than those in charge.
We are surrounded on all borders by conference schools for the first time ever. NLI, The portal, etc.
What makes you think we will be a player in football? We can't beat frickin Missouri. Shit we can't even cover the spread against them.
The window has closed.
The league will go to 9 games when it can extract the appropriate money from cbs or espn. I'm all for it as it will add a shitton of money, and it's better competition. Bleed seems to get erect at prospect of putting a 50 burger on bama A&M. I hate rent a wins.
Actually if the sec exits the ncaa, I'm for a fucking 15 game sec schedule. They are pros now so fuck class. The money would be hugest.

Then what is the point of having a program? If we can't win then why play? Who cares how much money we can make if we can't compete?
Those are serious questions. What is the point of t of it all?

Retarded take is retarded.
I do like playing teams like Notre Dame.
No point in playing a Notre Dame if out of 12 games you are already playing 9 of the best teams in the country within your own conference schedule.

it most likely will be up to espn.
an article in the athletic says espn has already offered $50-80 million extra for a 9th conference game.
cbs gave up the sec so i doubt they will ever televise it again, not for the foreseeable future anyway. espn's contract runs for another 9 years.
In ten years it'll probably go to some kind of sports streaming service either Disney owned or possibly by then some other kid on the block will come along.
Does introducing a 9th game make it more difficult for some SEC teams to reach the required six victories needed to become eligible for a non playoff bowl game? Perhaps

The path is for the SEC to become the separate nfl developmental league over and above the oher shits in the ncaa. Big10 can either come along or not. Who gives a fuck about 6 game eligible bowl games? All that will matter is the new sec championship and the bowls that choose to become playoff games. 15 games, all conference, with all nfl developmental talent. ESPN will kowtow to that and pay big $ for it, likely with an expansion of sec network and a hefty sub fee for us.

D1 consists of what 118 schools or something like that? Most of those schools in one form or another is making TV revenue or getting paid largely to get prison sext on live television and would be at a great risk of diminished importance the moment the big schools break away to form some kind of alliance that excludes their participation. People would lose interest, sports networks would have dead air if they didn't show them but overall I think it would quickly become another D2 or whatever. Nobody will care about the Tulsa's and the Akron's of the world.
No doubt if the big schools formed a non-ncaa alliance it would make for great tv and possibly be something awesome to behold but it's going to come at the cost of the rest of what is now college football.

That's exactly why so many coaches are opposed to the switch. The possibility of a barely above .500 season and a shitass bowl are all that guys like Pittman, Drunkshitz, Stoops, and whoever is at Miss State in any given year has to look forward to.
Replaying the Okie State game on ESPN2. We were not a smart team that day. Time had dulled some of the frustrations of being a Razorback fan, but watching this game, it all came back to me.

You know why they play stupid? Because the head coach is stupid. Prepare fore yet more of the same. If it gets Sam fired I'm all for a massive stupid loss to the red wolves.

Frankly I don't care about the big 12 or the pac whatever or directional schools. Segmentation has to happen. The money and everything else dictate it.
The second tier of b12, acc, pac, can still thrive in their regions and alumni, just at a different level. The rest are where they are scrambling just as they always have.
I love Tuesday night MACtion, that's not going away.

great questions that a lot of programs should ask but here we are. Why do schools like ASU move up from FCS to FBS when they have no shot of ever making the playoff? why did JFB get us in the SEC? Why don't we leave and join the Big 12 where football might have a chance? Why don't schools breakaway from the NCAA instead of bitching about ?
money
for kicks add ego, football, and testosterone to the mix and here we are.

Would you want to be the same loser over in the big 12, fighting it out with Baylor, OSU, and Kansas? Fuck that shit. We're where we need to be and just need to get folks involved that can bring the money to bring great coaching. The shit parade since the Harleygate has been a disaster.
