I read that and thought that had to be a misprint or something, so I looked up the Ducanville roster. Nope, that's his name. Who names a kid Maximus The Great?

I talked to JL Friday. He is a year younger than me but we ran around together a lot. He was very appreciative of it. He was honored (and deserving) of being honorary captain. He has done so much for the area. I loved coaching with him and love talking with him whenever he'll answer the damn phone. Great guy, need more of him.

Went to my first HS game in a long time last night and watched Bryant pummel Parkview. Refs screwed Parkview all night. Wouldn't have changed the outcome, but it was noticeable. Also, the Bryant band might be better than the UA.

Yeah, they are "ranked" #2 in Texas behind Duncanville and #18 nationally right now, with Duncanville #10, but it is early so who knows. They do appear better than last year if they can stay healthy. Granted, they would have been much better last year if they stayed healthy since by the end they were using a receiver as RB1 since everyone got hurt.

Yeah, there are several things, NIL $$ being one. The multiple HS(5?) vs 1 HS being another, granted it is something like 33k students vs 8k students, but only having one so you funnel all the talent to one team and just as importantly train the kids in the system from pee-wee football all the way to senior high. These kids learn the base system early and so once they move up it is second nature and they have been playing together the whole time.
We live on the Keller side of Southlake, not far from the High School and not far from Davis. Convenient if we have a beef, we can meet up at the Sonic on Davis to settle it... We go to the Cane's Chicken / Andy's combo there often as my boy loves both and so I get that for him. Keller is a great town.

After their early close loss to Dardenel or however you spell it, they aren't important enough to look it up, Elkins has been hate-fucking everyone on their schedule, especially Lincoln. Looks like they are back on track and might get a chance to prove that game was a fluke.
In other news, Southlake blanked Hust 49-0 or something like that and kept the train rolling. Not sure they will win state, but they should. Will be an upset if they don't.

What the coach has done there is nothing short of a miracle, just reloading year after year, after decades of being shitty. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get poached by one of the bigger schools unless he is content there and happy.

Yeah they have had quite the run. We have a grandson that is a senior and plays there. His class has lost one regular season game since 8th grade and that was against Dardenelle the second game of the year this year. All the other losses have been in the playoffs to end the year.

Regardless, it was a great high school game. Matter of fact, the last two Elkins games have been great games to watch. High school football is about the last of the "for the love of the game".

They have run through the toughest bracket in the playoffs with wins over Forest City, Southside, Arkadelphia and Stuttgart and get a chance to revenge the only regular season loss they've had in four years with Dardenelle. All in all a pretty unbelievable four year run. Would love to see them finish it off with a win next Saturday.

Back in the 90s it was not unusual to see 25-30k there for some of the big games.
Southlake got it going against Guyer, 51-19, and will likely face DeSoto in one Semifinal with King/Vandergrift in the other.
They have moved up to #5 nationally so I'm fully expecting disappointment, being a Hog fan. It really is woven into our DNA.

When I was a Soph I remember playing in WMS when Catholic played the first unified NLRHS team and there were 10,000 there (and if still felt for the most party empty).

Football fatigue. These small schools, a lot of players going both ways, have to play 14 games in a season to make the championship game. Five teams in each conference goes to the playoffs in 4A. No reason to play that many games.

Elkins kicks off after a TD and Stuttgart fields it at the five and starts up the field, gets the sideline at about the 20 and ends up scoring on a long KO return. During the return a ref throws a flag around their 20 yard line and stands there. The runner scores on the other end, the ref jogs down to around mid field, long conference, finally they call personal foul on Stuttgart during the runback, counted the score and accessed the foul on the kickoff. Fortunately it meant nothing to the outcome of the game.

I can't speak to all the officiating, but I think they got this right (assuming NFHS rules are the same as NCAA rules in this situation...and I think they are). Sorry...I misread the explanation. Y'all are right, the receiving team can't score and commit a personal foul unless the personal foul is after the score. If it was after the runner crossed the goal line, or very close to where the officials weren't sure of the timing, the score would count and then the foul would be enforced.

I thought the Elkins crowd was pretty good for a four hour drive. I was impressed with Stuttgarts facilities, the number of players dressed out and the how big the band was. Obviously at the top end of 4A in size.

With that many dressed out and cheer and band and all the kids involved, if just their parents and family attended it would be more than I saw on TV would think.

Unfortunately, we have some decent crews out there that struggle with rules knowledge. There has been little to no training up until this year. It will definitely get better over the next few years with the new Associate Executive Director over officials. They couldn't have made a better choice.
Also, no one turns down a playoff game and they all pay the same. I'm not sure how much they pay, but there aren't different pay scales for different classifications.

Higher classes pay $150 for regular season games and lower classes usually $125. NWA may pay more but unless you're driving across the state you're probably taking a pay cut in the playoffs.

Bentonville is now the largest enrollment school district in the state, and they will likely remain on top for the next couple of decades. Bentonville might wind up being the largest city in NWA (and second largest in the state) in 25 years.

This is true, but the coach, player, and fan behavior has gotten much, much worse over the past 30 years. I saw it first hand as an official. 20-30 years ago, a player would be causing problems and I could talk to his coach and it would get taken care of. Now, the coaches won't do anything...they just let the kids act as stupid as they want. Personally, I think the coaches are all afraid of the players because they can just leave and go to the school down the road next year.

He was drinking a coke at the time, and flipped the bottle to hold it by the neck, and busted it over the black guy's head. Came up to Dover, and made all state at nose guard.

I played for Benton. We had a game against J.A. Fair. We were shooting freethrows and I'm on the low block. The J.A. player standing next to me, who was called for the foul, coldly and matter of factly told the ref that he had something for him after the game. I immediatly backed away as the ref ejected him. The early 90s kids at those Little Rock schools went hard.

We got in a brawl at the end of a game at Dover in '82. The entire night was a masterclass in hometown officiating but we were so much better than Dover it didn't matter. I think we had 5 straight plays where they called us for defensive PI or holding.

Agreed. I would have been ran until I puked with that kind of behavior (warranted or not). CSB: I did get ran until I and my team puked a couple of times but we had a strong willed coach (94-97).
It's different these days but my kids will always be taught to treat with respect until disrespected then take up for themselves.

I never understood Dover being in the same conference as Pulaski Academy, Pulaski North (?), Pulaski Robinson, and Pulaski Oak Grove. We got the shit beat out of us by all of them. We had just started our football program back up in 1972, after I think a 30 year hiatus.

They were so hot, at the end of the first half, Barton shot from 70 or so feet and the announcer said something like, "I expect that one to go in too." :D
