Coach Broyles got the last laugh though, and at WMS. That's pretty fitting that the 1-way rivalry was finally delt with at our last contracted game there.
I'm fine with playing A-State but it needs to be treated like a rent-a-win game just like all the other non-cons against non P4's. It's not a rivalry and likely never will be in our life times. No lowering ourselves to travel to Jonesboro. If they want to play us then they can come to RRS once a year to take their rape fee and leave.
Two games and I don't really have a feel if we are any good or not. We've done plenty of things to give one optimism and and enough bad to cause pessimism. I don't know what to expect next week at all.

Those were the two I could find this morning.
I know it was against a defeated opponent by the time he got in...but KJ Jackson came in and played very authoritative. He made quick decisions and a couple times under duress made the right pass. Those are all very positive things for the future and the future could be sooner than we know if Green keeps running at mofos. KJ looks like a read and throw first QB...but I'm guessing has enough wheels to get down the field if/when he has to. I very much want to see him and Petrino back next season based on the small sample sized we've seen so far.
Green is who he is...he's going to wow you at times and other times he's just going have a total brain fart. He's still leaving guys wide the fuck open. He's not making quick twitch decisions on passes. Lots of times the ball is out way late. I saw a few completions that if the ball is delivered on time the guy is getting 10-15 more yards if not break it all the way. Also that they are letting him run a lot against cupcakes tells me there is a lot of trust in what is behind him...
Ole Miss is a game we'll really need because this slate is gonna get dirty quickly.
i'm happy petrino ran the offense when kj came in. showed he's comfortable with the kid.
it would have been easy in that situation to just hand off three times and punt.
There are some things we need to shore up on defense (over pursuing, arm tackles, playing out of position). That said, it is good to see 2 weeks in a row the D give up a 1st half TD and then bow up the rest of the game.

Finally got to watch the game as I was stuck in airports and on planes all day yesterday. That second quarter was just ugly, but glad to see that they pulled their heads out of their asses and started playing again. It felt very much like the typical Sam team, get ahead and lay down there for a bit. The defense is a huge concern going into SEC play. The OL showed signs of weakness several times, allowing a three man rush through, and that is concerning once we're up against actual talent. I doubt Green will get the time in pocket he's been having, or nearly as clean of a pocket. Green tends to slide on his mechanics and decisions when he's feeling the pressure... so I venture we will see plenty of "WTF Green" show up next week. Kiffin will likely have a field day with our D. The arm tackles, constantly out of position, over pursuit, etc. All kinds of open space left by the D.

The OL showed signs of weakness several times, allowing a three man rush through, and that is concerning once we're up against actual talent. I doubt Green will get the time in pocket he's been having, or nearly as clean of a pocket. Green tends to slide on his mechanics and decisions when he's feeling the pressure... so I venture we will see plenty of "WTF Green" show up next week. Kiffin will likely have a field day with our D. The arm tackles, constantly out of position, over pursuit, etc. All kinds of open space left by the D.
I'm glad we got the W and there was plenty there to be happy about, but also plenty to be concerned about. Now can people shut up about this being an in state rivalry? Hopefully, it can be put to bed and we don't have to do some stupid home and home shit with them.

SEC teams will really make us pay for those arm tackles, being out of position, etc. I also doubt we see the kind of QB pressure we were able to generate, when we did generate it. I'm somewhat optimistic about our offense with a full year of Petrino's system under their belts. Our receivers run crisp routes and seem to be able to catch the football. Pass pro seems to have taken a step forward but run blocking may have taken a step back.
I'm a bit dubious of our RB stable. Also, Green's mechanics still look like shit, he's still not seeing wide open receivers downfield, and he's still throwing sidearm passes that get knocked down at the LOS. There were a few times where he'd throw to the 5 yard dig route that was double covered and completely overlooking a receiver wide open down the field.

Nor am I saying it's the "best" we'll get. I'm simply saying a lot of that pressure we did generate we will not have in conference play. Given how out of position our D seems to be on numerous plays, and the arm tackling, and less pressure than what we saw... it's a concern. Our real opponents will make us pay for those mistakes much more than the cupcakes we've played.

I think among the biggest things I've seen is we seem to bite on a lot of shit and get taken way out of position.

I thought the defense played quite a bit better, especially the LB's. The DLine played well but we seem pretty thin at DT and DE. I thought Kani Walker looked like a real SEC corner. I still have some serious doubts about this team against SEC teams but we'll see.

But nostalgia is always ultimately disappointing and the Grand Lady of central Arkansas is in the terminal stages of senescence. As Thomas Wolfe warned us, you can't go home again and it is past time for the Hogs to say goodbye to War Memorial Stadium.

Exactly. Back in the day, branding/marketing sorta went hand in hand to travel and expose your team across the region. Alabama used to play in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham (Legion Field). It just makes no sense in today's world, nostalgia or not.

Agreed. I am even older. When I was in school in Fayetteville, we played 4 games a year in LR, and only 3 in Fayetteville. I saw Arkansas beat USC in LR and many other great games, like the victory over A&M that put us in the Cotton Bowl. So I understand the nostalgia part.
But it is time to move on. Fayetteville is much easier to get to than it was in those days. Remember, one of the reasons that Fayetteville didn't have lights for so many years is that John Barnhill and then Broyles didn't want people driving back over the mountains on HWY 71 after night games. The facilities are no longer competitive in LR.
Sarah Sanders should have stayed out of it. But she didn't. It will be interesting to see what happens.

If I'm remembering correctly, we made a run at Matt Campbell after firing Morris but he wanted a huge buyout (which is probably pedestrian given where coaching buyouts are now) and we got cheap.

They played in Ames last year for free to get this game, how did that work out financially ?
They really should go back to the FCS division and try to win a national title at that level instead of spending all that money for a potential best outcome of a bowl in New Orleans or Mobile in mid December

Like most other things, it's not really about winning and losing (don't get me wrong, everybody wants to win). It's about dollars. They are much better off financially in FBS than they would ever be in FCS.
