So, for shits and giggles, I was looking at Kansas' baseball schedule to see how good they are so far and if there was a chance we could get them in a regional so we could end their BASEBALL season with a loss too. They are 8-10 so far but have played ONLY ONE GAME AT HOME. Is that like, normal? Is it because of winter? Why would they only have played one game at home so far?

I can't remember where I read this, and don't know if it was accurate, but I recall seeing in the past that another city (Memphis?) placed a higher bid for the tournament but was rejected in favor of Hoover. I'm not anti Hoover by any means. The ballpark sucks, but the grounds are pretty nice and they do a reasonably good job of running the event. It would just be nice to have it rotate every now and then. "After reviewing numerous proposals and visiting a number of potential sites, it turned out that Hoover, our long-time home, could provide everything necessary to make it the right venue for SEC baseball," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in 2016 on the decision to keep the tournament in Hoover. "The City of Hoover really stepped up with a large investment."
now that the Barons play in downtown Birmingham there is nothing other than high school football that happens at the Met. Hell - playing at Rickwood Field in Birmingham would make more sense.
Why Hoover? It doesn't draw unless Bama and/or Auburn play and they are marginal at best. LSU fans will travel wherever so that's a push.
it makes no sense to keep it in Hoover, hell, even the football championship moved to a new locale but not baseball.
unless it has changed - there one way in and one way out and traffic is awful.
of course, this is the $EC - it ju$t mean$ more. Wonder how much Hoover is paying them.
I don't get why some throw out anywhere in Texas or Florida as realistic options for the SEC baseball tournament. Same for St Louis or Kansas City. All these locations are located so far outside of the central SEC school locations.
Atlanta is a little too far East but is doable. Memphis may be a little more centrally located but then why not just keep it in Alabama.
I would imagine the simple answer is Hoover has hosted it forever and at this point it is a matter of convenience for the SEC office and the planning they have to do. I doubt there is some grand conspiracy.

They rotate the SEC basketball tournament periodically. This includes having it in St. Louis and Tampa in recent years, hardly central locations. There is no reason why they couldn't do the same for baseball, even if it's just once every three or four years with Hoover being the anchor site.
Not to mention that Nashville is a nice city, while Birmingham is a slightly larger version of Little Rock. And every one of the ball parks I mentioned (plus all the MLB sites) are far nicer venues that Hoover Met.

Umpiring was horrible. Regarding Vitello, there is a 8th grade/soon to be 9th C they are recruiting in Memphis. Great kid, when Vitello calls him he wont let him talk to his mom because she doesn't like him and he is afraid she might cost him an opportunity there.

Southern Miss will host Tennessee in their super regional.
If anyone out there wonders why Tony V. would crawl naked for the entire 709 miles it would take to get from his current office to Baum-Walker to replace DVH should the latter retire, this is why. Tennessee is traveling to Southern Miss, an equally seeded team in a far lesser conference, because their own softball field is a bigger dump than whatever field USM has in Hattiesburg.

In better news, the purple merry-go-round has started in Fort Worth. TCU emphatically erased a 2 run deficit with a crooked number in the 4th. Now ahead 5-2.
These fucking longhorns.
Stanford just blew a 5-2 lead in the 9th.
Their closer loaded the bases with 2 walks and a HBP. Right fielder loses a routine fly ball in the sun and allowed 2 runs, and then the tying run scored on a fielder's choice. Stanford then re-loaded the bases (1 of the walks was an IBB of their 3 holehitter) and then gave up a 2 run double.

Virginia tied it 1-1 with Florida in the top of the 7th.
Virginia sent a 2-run double down the left field line for a 3-1 lead in the top 7th.
RBI single makes it a 4-1 lead. This Florida pitcher, freshman Cade Fisher, has done a lot of damage in 10 pitches and is coming out of the game.
Top 9th with 2 outs, UVA batter sends it deep to right field and the fielder isn't able to make the sliding catch. RBI triple sends a runner in from second.
Virginia going into the bottom 9th with a 5-3 lead.
HR by the gators. Now 5-4. See saw game.
There's a solo homer for Florida's first batter. 5-4 Virginia.
Another solo homer to left field will tie it 5-5. Don't just leave a change up hanging there in the middle of the zone.
1 out. No pitching change for UVA.
Florida just hit two home runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie at 5-5.
Tie game on another HR by Florida.
Winning run on first. And UVA is finally deciding it's time to make a pitching change.
These games today have been great.
False alarm they left the pitcher in, he hit a batter, and now the bases are loaded with one out.
This is a Hog level implosion. I would be impressed if I weren't so experienced with it.

I grew up with him. He's got a ring. But I don't know what else you can do when the pitcher goes HR strikeout strikeout. And follows with a lead off HR the next inning. I think the saying is solo HR don't beat you. Thus why I am not a coach.

Hell of a throw by the Stanford left fielder. Got the runner out at home by a mile.

Missed throw to second by the catcher sends a Stanford runner home. 1-0 cardinal tree thingies in the bottom first.

There is zero doubt in my mind that they knew what pitch was coming before it was thrown against us. Not even saying they did anything illegal, but they knew what was coming. I would bet money on it. Either the catcher or pitcher or something had a tell that gave it away.

I think Florida wins because they feel like the most complete team (and really have all year).
Plus, LSU has to be out of gas. They had to fight their way out of the loser's bracket and then beat Wake twice, culminating in an 11 inning rock fight last night. Meanwhile Florida gets an extra day of rest.
Skenes threw 120 pitches last night, and threw 123 Saturday. Can't imagine he has enough left in the tank to go the distance.

I've been to every stadium in the SEC and in my experience, the absolute worst fans by a mile are LSU and Bama. Bama's are all just arrogant assholes, no matter how young or old they are. LSU fans are rude, crude dicks who throw shit down on you if they start losing and you better not have any non-LSU shit on your car, that's just a target. Auburn fans have always been the nicest, inviting us before AND after games over to their tailgates for food/drinks.

Close to my exact same experience. Although I had a FEW good LSU fan encounters at BR. I've never had one decent experience at Tuscaloosa.
Auburn was always a good trip. Once Gus came in though, it got bad for a while. My best experiences have been at Athens though. Nary a shitfuck in the crowd.
I've been to three games at LSU. Always had a blast. Every LSU fan I know here in Houston is a class act. LSU is my second favorite team.
From my limited experience, I would say that gators are crappy sports fans (and I think this expands to all Florida sports, not just UF) and gumbotiggers are just crappy people. This doesn't apply to all individuals included in those subsets or even a plurality, just the majority of the ones I have met.
One time I went to a night game in death valley, a gumbotigger (who probably couldn't blow under a .25 if their family's lives depended on it) was in my face the entire night just because I had the audacity to wear a Hog shirt and cheer for my team. Multiple death threats were flung my way. Security even came by to let me know that I was the one that needed to stay seated and just not say so much as "go team" the rest of the night. Luckily, the husband and her kids eventually convinced her to go sleep it off since she had to be the one to drive back.

They were my second favorite team when I lived in Houston. Had the same experience back then. This was late 80's, early 90's. Prior to our entry into the SEC. But in the last 10 years, I've not experienced any classy LSU fans. The times I've attended football games at LSU....man, got spit on. People throwing beer cans at us. Unprovoked. Just walking through the parking lot. Trying to just have a nice tailgate for my fellow razorback fans and have people come up and knock our razorback decorations over. Incessantly chant the "Tiger Bait" bullshit. Totally unnecessary. Anyway....I know everyone's experience is different. I've had friends go to Tuscaloosa and absolutely love it and love their fans. Unfathomable to me.
LSU with the batting order change
This pitcher is done already
That was a stupid way to try and make that play
Quote from: Rick B. on Jun 26, 2023, 10:57 AMEach person makes their own conclusions from the data they have observed. I've been to UA-FU football games in The Swamp and 95% of their fans treated us well. I've been to UA-LSUcks football games in Death Valley. I've been to UA-LSUcks baseball games at BWS. I've not met an LSU fan who wasn't a complete douchebag. I've never met an Alabama fan who wasn't a huge fuckstick. That's just like, your opinion, man.
I've never been treated well in Gainesville. I mean, they condescended to us when they won. Of course, the refs won't let them lose so I've never experienced that there. I'm guessing it wouldn't end well.
Beloso needs to rush the mound
This pitcher is done too. Epic fail.

Greatly. Scoring 20+ runs is essentially the kiss of death. It took a while but it got TCU and Wake. Now it's happening again.
And luscious Kaylee is there cheering for LSU. That is more than enough reason.

Livvy too.
Hurd settled in and turned good. I bet they give Skenes an inning.
Rick sighting?
Another run walked in
ESPN counting outs to championship. When has that ever produced an epic collapse?
Florida scoring 24 yesterday, then losing in an "of course" performance today, is a weird combination of our NC State and Oregon St. experiences.
I think I have PTSD just watching this.
LSU just skeeting in their eyes now. Another 2-run homer in the top of the 9th.

Except they weee 27 outs away. Not 27 inches.

When LSU popped it up behind third, the third baseman slid and missed, the left fielder missed on the bounce, and I think the short stop grabbed it and threw it back in.... I couldn't even laugh.
HOLEE SHIT.
Kaylee Hartung sighting in a random private box shot. LSU shirt.
That girl is so good looking.
I'd love to see her private box
Well, congrats to those corndog riding shitbirds.
LSU doesn't even need to pitch Skenes in the CWS Champ Finals 3-game series, yet he wins the MVP of the tournament?

Should have gone to Floyd for the Game 1 performance. Going the distance while Florida kept burning pitchers in that game came back big tonight.
Ok this might be the most painful thing I have ever seen. :suicide:
Grotesque

So multiple SEC teams winning natty's in several different sports. Are we ever going to break through in ANY SPORT? WTF is wrong? Are we cursed? Right now, I'd say our biggest chances in order of when they play are soccer, MBB, softball, then baseball. If I'm being honest, it's never going to happen in football. WBB is a long shot. GYM is a long shot. VB is a long shot. Do we just need to sacrifice a live chicken? I mean...what? Goddamn LSU wins in something every fucking year it seems.
BTW, yes, I'm discounting T&F.

I'd put both men's and women's golf in there somewhere close to the top. Probably behind soccer for the men and behind baseball for the women.

True. But, just like T&F, I couldn't care less if golf wins a natty for W or M.

Same for me but add WBB to the DGAF list.
As long as we are fielding a team in the sport I hope those teams do well, but if you guaranteed that our WBB team would never even hold a lead in a game again in exchange for a spot in the 12 team football playoff, a men's final four or a baseball natty I'd take it without any doubt.

Courtney is real close. If they can just get a friggin break. Just a few lucky plays here and there.

She has got to make it to OKC first.
They are close but not real close.
With you on DVH, it will be a team we don't except that does it but we gotta have some pitching depth and bring back bunting, safety squeeze, and moving runners over - old school DVH offense

The Hogs were 2 ft more distance on a Taylor Ellsworth fly ball from beating Texas and going to the WCWS in 2022. Last year they had the coach of the year, the player of the year, the pitcher of the year, the best record in program history, their first ever Super Regional win, and back-to-back sec championships. I know you were in love with Carrie Dever Boaz but I'd say that's real close to making it to the college world series. I agree that they have to make it to Oklahoma City first but get there and anything can happen.

Our softball team isn't winning a WCWS until Oklahoma falls way off. They are so far ahead of everyone else it isn't fair. We could end up being second best and still not having a real chance.

Well, that is BY FAR the truth. The only way ANYONE else is going to win it is if someone on the OU side of the bracket does the impossible and blows their wad (figuratively) and then the winner of the other bracket sweeps the championship series.

No. Oklahoma is the '57-'66 Boston Celtics. Or the 91-98 Chicago Bulls. Or the 65-74 UCLA Bruins. Or the U of A track teams. ;D

Maybe, but I think the portal will make it hard for them and Georgia football to maintain dominance. It is already doing that to bama football and UConn women hoops. Kids don't want to wait their turn and develop.

Agreed. If DVH wins one, it'll be one we didn't see coming.
The two teams that he got the closest with were one that didn't win an SEC road series all year (2018) and a team that seemingly fell apart down the stretch and ended up not hosting (2022). The Ole Miss-Arkansas elimination game was the de facto CWS final.
That said, I've resigned myself to the fact that if we win the CWS it'll be a random one after DVH is gone, either with his successor or a few coaches later, similar to how MSU went to Omaha a bunch under Ron Polk and ended up finally winning one with Lemonis.
I've said this before, but college baseball is the weirdest, most random sport in terms of its postseason. It's one where Mike Martin, Ron Polk, and DVH can have 35 combined trips to Omaha and zero rings between them, while Mike Bianco and Chris Lemonis each have a ring.
