I'll start it since I am already inside the stadium.
The first 5,000 people get a Memphis Tiger T-shirt. We got here early to get one. The table refused us because "not Arkansas fans, Memphis only".
We walked to the next entrance and I took off my Arkansas hat and shirt, I have on an undershirt. Got one for my son.
FUCK YOU BASTARDS, HOG FANS WILL OVERCOME.

I fucking love bmfp
Our defense is still shitty. Water is wet.
Over/under needs to be about 87.
There is the defense we know and love
Our d line can get some push on a conference USA oline. Barely. Still has 4 seconds to throw.
Just hire Bobby. If this defense could piss a drop, we would be unbeatable
Their QB sucks thank God.
Can't hit the broad side of a barn but he can throw it over it.
That was very sad
What's the NCAA record for sacks broken by the QB on a single play?
Can't tackle.
Our defense looks like they had a plate a ribs before the game.
Three guys hit their QB in the backfield and can't tackle him.
How did we not sack him
Our guy just said "don't worry, I won't tackle you"
Blitzer has straight shot at the QB and panics

Worst call I've ever seen.
Sam just standing there instead of in the face of the refs. What a pussy.
That was not in the defense at all. Guy was there and offense pushed off. Bullshit.
The big story there is our pass rush looks like a group of retired coal miners
Yep, we gave them too much time.
Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Sep 20, 2025, 12:42 PMLive, that looked like OPI or no call.

That's right up there with the PI called on us at Florida in 2009, I think. . The same game Marc curles flagged Malcom Shepard for protecting himself from being headhunted.
What are we even doing on offense to have to punt before halftime.
Incompetence or cheating by the Ref.
A screen pass would have been nice to start that drive.
last week the ole miss defender never turned his head and got up in blake's chest. no call.
That's about the only way #95 will ever find a ball carrier...if they literally try to run right at him
14 rushing attempts averaging 7.5 per and three td. i think i'd call some more runs. maybe not have them lead in top by 5 minutes.

Yep
There was one play where I saw Cam Ball just jogging right near a ball carrier. Looked like he was showing zero effort.
This defense is profoundly terrible.
Every commercial for High Potential makes me embarrassed for anyone who would watch that.
The concept is idiotic.
The dialogue is abysmal.
Does anyone watch network TV shows anymore?
Hope we made some halftime adjustments on D. If it gets to 28-24, BLS will get puckered.

At least in effort, which is most of what matters.
Green needs to hand the ball off more. Everyone is keying on him to keep it.
17 needs to pull his head out of his ass

Let's do it. Let's answer the question once and for all. Does Bobby still have it?
I'm in tears right now and not because I'm sad but because I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
I really do feel like our offense is out of new wrinkles. If we were saving anything for Notre Dame we had to use it in a loss against Memphis. SEC defenses are going to feast on us no matter what Bobby calls. We don't have enough horses up front to make any scheme work. Washington had no excuses on the fumble to not have both hands on that ball.

The season is done. This roster and locker room are absolutely cooked.
I said before the season we'd go 4-8. I thought we'd be 3-1 after Memphis and go 1-7 the rest of the way.

The reality is that 2 games in a row our best player, Green, didn't get to decide things with everything on the line.

Wrong decisions in personnel and not coaching the guys late on having 2 hands on the ball. Everything has to be wrong for these things to happen and that starts at the top.

After the game headed straight for Cozy Corner. Very surprised it is quite the urban place. I thought it would be bougie with that name.
Wings and ribs. Ribs were perfectly done not fall off the bone. Wings were very large and smoked before sauced.
Not a big fan of the sauce. No sweetness and a little black pepper edge that I did not like.
It was still the best thing about Memphis.

Despite all the shitty play on both sides of the ball we let Memphis get a first down with about a minute to go by a backup QB trucking a 400lb slug about 8 yards. I about spit out my coke when I watched that I was laughing so hard. We make that play we get the ball back and find a way to miss a FG at the end.

DC's know to contain Green and make him pass. He's just not good. Petrinos offense requires someone who can at least read a defense and some sense of kinematics(take that FNG). I think we've got decent weapons on offense, but can't get them the ball. Jackson showed he at least knows we have TEs on the team. Rohan Jones has like 5 touches and 3 touchdowns, might be nice to get him the ball more.
The game turned on the bullshit PI call right before the half. The announcers knew it bullshit, the rules guy knew it was bullshit, EVERYONE BUT THE REF who was looking at it knew it was bullshit. On the next possession we went 3 and out in about 30 seconds, punted. Then they score at the start of the 2nd half. They adjusted at half, we went into the toilet until the last drive, then Arkansas'd it and fumbled.
It was a horrid 2nd half, but very predictable. We've all seen it before.

You missed a probable result derived and rendered by much field study suggesting said probable outcome.
I think the defense has quit (with the exception of Lee and Neal). Sorey and Dix were abysmal--I saw both of them actually slow up several times when meeting ball carriers on the edges and most of their (attempted) tackles looked like a jilted girlfriend trying to stop her man from walking out the door. Charlie Collins appears to be as inept as his receiver cousin. There was absolutely no "flying around" and Memphis ball carriers must have had at least 50 yards after contact this afternoon.
Memphis did get 7 points courtesy of the worst PI call in the history of college football but the fact that it made a difference in the game is on us.
I've watched my last Hog football game as long as Sam is HC. I am literally too old for this shit.

We LOST because we are poorly coached, especially on defense and have many players loafing. That is a fact.
However, there were a crazy amount of huge calls that were drive killers or point drivers that significantly impacted the game. Phantom holds that wiped out huge gains (MULTIPLE TIMES), PI's on 3rd downs that were blatant that weren't called that would have extended drives into scoring position, the OPI. There was a legit probably 17+ points worth of calls made. It really was quite uncanny. We should have won handily even with them, but holy shit it was pretty fucking blatant and if we were playing an SEC school, I would be fucking nuclear with rage right now over the calls. This was Florida 09 bad today, just didn't seem so bad because we should have won anyway.
Our NIL is what? $320M? I'm not sure what the ceiling is for the program for how much that could increase with the right administration.
As fans, we've always said the we had a sleeping giant that could explode if it won.
Deep down though, we know that even at max support, we would never reach the levels of Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, LSU.
Our program, for better or worse, IS and will forever remain "mid-tier", at best.
I accepted that a long time ago.

I was thinking about that last 1st down by Memphis where their QB drug our 900 pound lineman for 12 yards. That is what happens when you try to strip the ball instead of making a tackle. However, they were apparently much better at protecting the ball than we were.

7-19 in one score games under Pittman. That isn't a talent issue, that is a coaching issue.

You have to want to want to give a shit. More important than talent. At a minimum our defensive players are missing that crucial component. Therefore, physical talent is not relevant to the discussion.

Quote from: HOGSRUNWILD on Sep 20, 2025, 05:46 PMIt wasn't lost to the officials but that doesn't change the FACT that the officials made several horrible calls that impacted the final score of the game. We SHOULD have won handily anyway with even moderately competent coaching though so that is why I'm not blaming the officials for the loss.
A well coached team overcomes those things and knows how to avoid them. Well coached teams don't have three boneheaded turnovers. Well coached teams yank loafers off the field and out in someone else. That fat fuck couldn't coach anything much less. If time football. Fire him tonight or else there's a solid chance we're doing this again next year.

I've always said it's easier to get better at a skill than it is to get someone to play harder. As you said, either you have it, or you don't.
Football depends more on the team aspect than any sport. What keeps you playing hard is not wanting to let the rest of the team down. When your roster turns over yearly you can't build that respect amongst the team. You don't have a team, you've just got a bunch of guys wearing the same uniform.
Pittman just doesn't have the ability to get these guys to buy into the team concept in such a short amount of time.

Having read the books by belichik, Jimmy Johnson, and others, Sam has zero clue how to build a team, especially one that is essentially a new team every season since no player wants to stick around more than one.
Sam's school counselor approach to coaching, and his laziness just creates his failures. He's not a born loser; he has made himself into one. We are lower than Vandy, or state. All due to Sam. Fuck him to the moon. I hate everything about him. Unlike Trey Buddy I don't give a shit that he might be a nice guy. It's only about winning. I don't care about a coach making strong young men; they are pros now. Win or go fucking die.

There's only one Razorback©
I was pissed that I had to go to a wedding for one of my wife's friends/coworkers yesterday. We had to leave right at kick-off. The wedding was held at a lake with no damned phone signal, so I couldn't even pull up ESPN on my phone... nor receive the dozens of texts awaiting me. I was really irritated, but I have the game set to record, so told myself it's fine and I'll watch when I get home and keep nursing the buzz. Now, now I'm grateful. I actually had a pretty decent time at the wedding, and I still haven't watched the "game". In fact, when I finally got into signal range and my phone basically exploded with notifications, I just started laughing as the "WTF!s", "Y'all gonna fire this guy, yet?s", and myriad versions of "Did your DC just smoke crack before the game?" texts rolled in. I checked the score, shook my head, and enjoyed the rest of the evening with my wife. Today, I'm not going to watch the game... I'll watch NFL. Next week, I may not watch that game either.
Edit: I seem to recall commenting on how awful the D is and how much of a problem it will be this season after the first and second games... and I seem to recall some folks denying it and decrying my comments. Have said individuals come around yet?

It crossed my mind several times. Having a QB dead to rights and pulling up at last second or refusal to bring down a ball carrier when you have him in the backfield or can make a play to prevent a TD or first down.

Did it last week too. Just stopped mid blitz and did a jumping jack like we were trying to deflect an inbounds pass.
The effort on display yesterday namely the defense was so laughably bad it just about had to be intentional. Worth, Dix, Sorey have all regressed and that's being kind...they literally don't look like they have a clue what to do and give zero fucks and that was supposed to be a core element of the defense.
We are missing some guys off last years team...Metcalf and I forget who all else but we've downgraded at several spots and it's acutely noticeable. Not to be that guy but I'm guessing not having Clark back there directing the defense is really hurting badly...we clearly don't have anyone back there that understands what they are doing. No leaders at all from what I can see.
As someone else alluded to we look like a bunch of dudes wearing the same uniform costumes but that's about it.
The only way to really fix this level of shitty product in college athletics is to make NIL incentive based. In other words you get paid when you perform well. Effort is a talent.
It's generally not the one that gets rated in recruiting rankings, or what people are talking about when they say a team is outmanned.
Effort is a skill that is highly coachable. If you have players with the requisite athletic ability a good coach can get them to produce, and a poor one cannot.
A good friend of mine who has connections to Pittman's staff goes and watches practice from time to time. He says that Pittman just sits in a golf cart and occasionally yells for about 75 percent of practice. The other 25 percent is spent going around to various position groups and "observing" drills, or photo opportunities with visitors.
That kind of ineptness and laziness is why we've seen the product diminish since 2021. I also recall at his intro presser he came up with the tears and talked about how this was his "dream job" and it wasn't about the money, then as soon as they won 9 games he shit cans his agent and hires Jimmy Sexton and says show me the dollar signs. Fuck him.
A golf cart? Yeah no one's going to bust their ass in practice for a coach who won't even walk around. Assistant coaches included.

This is largely a semantic debate. I personally don't think effort is a talent, because effort is something you can consciously choose to have and do and you can change yourself if you're not naturally inclined.
I can't choose to have a 36" vert or have great hand-eye coordination or be 7 feet tall.

Maybe that was the "final" straw, but remember we were still behind at that point. Maybe if we had actually scored on down on the goal line instead of fumbling, that third down conversion might not have happened. There was less than what, 1:30 or so left. Yeah, I think most everyone thought the defense looked like dogshit in both the first 2 weeks despite the final score.
Many of us were calling out how bad we were at tackling after week 1. There were tons of missed tackles and second chance yards against Alabama A&M, which reared its head against ASU and has only since gotten worse.

After game one I did think the defense was better than what we saw. I thought they would make a huge leap from game 1 to 2. Game 2 solidified we have major issues. Guys being out of position as much as they were was mind blowing. I still can't believe how bad they are at the technical part of the game. Frank Broyles sat 20-30 rows up in the stands and watched most practices from there. Bear Bryant had a tower he sat on, rarely coming down. But they both knew exactly what was going on and effort wasn't usually a problem for their teams.
A two star $20 NIL player will smoke a five star $5 million player if the expensive player half assed jogs around the field like our defensive players are doing.
I've never seen a team that actively appears ro be trying to NOT make a play. I mean you see lack of effort individually from time to time but the whole damned team jogging out there?
Walked 20 rows into the bleachers. Stepped up into a tower. Sat on a golf cart.
Two of those three had players who knew they would get out on the field and kick their ass if they loafed. The glaringly obvious issue ISN'T simply where the coach sits to watch practice, but that the players know which coach is too lazy and soft to discipline them.
Managing people is hard work. I mean you have to be demanding and consistent. And that's not just being a dick. You have to actively engage so that you know what is going on.
Sam doesn't have that and he never has. He can't do it with players and he can't do it coaches. Odom was his secret sauce. Odom knew how to run a program. Sam is lost without him. Petrino obviously knows how to do it too, but their styles are too different for it to work, Petrino can't run a team through Sam and Sam just fucks things up by being around and doing his aw shucks routine.

I don't see that effort on the defensive side at all. Not even a smidge of it. Does the transfer portal not work the same on the offensive side of the ball? Fear of getting your ass chewed is a motivator regardless of whether you can "quit" and leave or not.

One thing that I'm laughing about on that last "run" to go along with all the other laughable things on that play is the crazy holding on our DB that actually could have come in and assisted on the tackle at the end and held him short of the first down. The receiver holds about as bad as you could hold and no flag, yet our receiver gets wrapped up from the snap with defensive holding, then looks at the DB and gets a offensive holding call that wipes out a sure TD.
We blew the game, but holy fuck those officials were just flat out blatantly cheating.

JFB had five pillars that allowed him to compete against the big boys of the SWC back when there was hardly an airport in Fayetteville. Sam violates them all. Jimmy, Hatfield, and others took them elsewhere.
1. Stamina. When the dude across from you is huffing and puffing, and you're still strong, you have them by the balls. This team is always gassed by halftime. Same as Bert's teams. That is a reflection of fat Sam.
2. Brains. Smart players with football smarts. Can be coached to the nuances of the game. Most of the players planned to be coaches and played smart on the field. Uhh our coach barely understands the basic game.
3. Speed. If you aren't growing bigger players then kill folks with speed. Play with tempo, speed out of the huddle, fast to your block, up the field, to the ball. Always hustling. Nope. No sign of that.
4. Team play thru the whistle. Make your block, go get another. Pursuit to the whistle. Never stop in a play never take a play off. 11 playing as a team usually win over talent.
5. No mistakes. Fumbles, INTs, missed blocks, bad tackles, presnap penalties, dead ball fouls, were not tolerated. Individual errors were punished individually and to the team. Sam just says try to do better. It's my fault.
I read coaching books by the greats. I see no evidence that Sam knows one thing about good coaching. He's a worse coach than Chad or John L or Duddy Waller. :o

David Pryor was right. NEZ expansion was a waste of money. Nobody wants to sit outside staring directly into the sun even when it is cold.
It was just an excellent example of money mismanagement. I suspect it has continued, if not accelerated.
Vickery has no unique insights there.
On tension within the staff, when one coach's wife refers to the other coaches and their wives as fucking backstabbers, things aren't going too well.
I've told you all this before but I will say it again. Arkansas is having a power struggle in the financial area. I have no inside info but I know Arkansas and how things worked.
The Razorback Foundation was set up by Broyles to allow us to pay coaches more than state law would allow and control fundraising. As such, the Foundation became a powerful politically effective entity in and of itself. With Frank gone, it had more pull than the actual AD.
Long for all his faults understood all this and was really aggressive in getting his people in at the Foundation getting it under control. But he got arrogant and the Petrino situation eventually cost him everything when Bert failed.
HY has never seemed to be aggressive about controlling the Foundation or getting his own political influence. So, he is basically powerless. No matter how much money the program makes, they can't use it to hire a football coach as that state employees are limited to $300k per year. The Foundation pays the bills.
Now, here is where money gets tight. The Foundation plays NO ROLE in NIL. It is in direct competition with our NIL efforts for limited donation amounts. We are NOT broke but the Foundation IS broke when it comes to paying buyouts and new salaries. We can't use any of $200 million athletic department budget for football coaches. And perhaps more importantly, we can't use any of our facilities or whatever to raise money for NIL.
Basically you have two competing fiefdoms with different interests who depend on Arkansas athletics for their existence. It's going to take someone who understands all this with the talent and ability to take on entrenched political interests to fix it. HY doesn't even try to do it. It is beyond his ability and he knows it. It probably explains why he is so dispirited. And probably explains his "we aren't set up to win championships" statement. He literally means it. The structure we have up there is from a different era and is actively hamstringing our efforts.
We're going to need laws changed on the state level and all kinds of things. I'm not particularly optimistic.
Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Sep 21, 2025, 11:09 AMI've told you all this before but I will say it again.
I think the point of competing financial entities is a valid and important one.

This may be it. The $20 NIL players sees games like this as their opportunity to get noticed for a bigger payday. Our guys may or may not see NFL in the future, but for now they are content with their check.
I think someone said it during the game but we literally looked like a bunch of 7th graders afraid to hit anybody capped off by a 200lb backup QB trucking a nearly 400lb human being 8 fucking yards and that's not any kind of exaggeration either. That shit happened. I couldn't believe my eyes as I watched the horror unfold.

That was more Omega adjusting to the ball than a NFL type throw. That was a hell of a play by the DB or it was a highlight reel TD. We don't do highlight reels unless we're on the receiving end.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Sep 21, 2025, 08:50 AMThis is largely a semantic debate. I personally don't think effort is a talent, because effort is something you can consciously choose to have and do and you can change yourself if you're not naturally inclined.
I can't choose to have a 36" vert or have great hand-eye coordination or be 7 feet tall.
Somewhat semantic and yes effort can be forced by an authority, but it's fleeting. At best, coaches taking time to work on that just wastes time that could be better spent building more complex elements for the team's best success.
I'm gonna read it this time instead of just correctly guessing the talking points.

You can't MAKE someone taller or make them faster or jump higher...but you CAN, with the proper forms of motivation, make them put forth maximum effort.
I have seen dudes that went into things dead set on putting forth minimum effort and even some so dead set on it, that they wanted to get kicked out. That is how bad they wanted to loaf. I saw those dudes going like they had their hair on fire as well a short time later. As I said, there is the superior motivator of respect, but in a pinch, fear/intimidation will also work and you 1000% do not need to be bigger or younger to put the fear of God into a young man and get that young man to put forth maximum effort. Hell, it might be something as simple as a phone call to his mamma or granny or whatever pressure point is needed to motivate that young man to see the light. EVERYONE is afraid of something. Everyone and it can be used to motivate them, be it their ego or even use their peers to get the job done.
I know football isn't the military, but I can guarantee you that many of the same attributes to motivate young men apply as the pool of young men that both are drawn from is very similar, often poor, lower class high macho dudes.
Laid back buddies don't cut it. They will run over them eventually and neither respect them nor fear them. That is what you have with Sam. They don't respect him nor fear him. The worst of situations. That is how you get the loafers we saw this Saturday that had zero shame about it because they didn't respect him enough to not do it nor fear the repercussions from him of doing it.
I can tell you this, if Petrino was coach, they might not respect him, they might hate him, who knows, but they sure the fuck would fear what would be waiting them on Saturday night if they loafed like that during a game. Hell, they would fear would be waiting on them when they got back to the sideline as they would never leave the sideline again.

It's like they thought that was the last play of the game half way expecting the offense to take a knee. The quit in this team is at Chad levels...but probably a lot worse. We are going to be giving up 50 to backups the rest of the way.
ND will be able to name their score
Defense was likely butt hurt after finally stopping Ole Miss and giving us a chance to win, to turning around to see the offense fumble and piss the game away. Add in the supposed NIL disparity between the offense and defense, and I'm sure there is animosity in the locker room.
Now that the offense has fumbled again, I don't think we'll win another game.

Sports and military are amazingly similar, actually. They are both "team" sports that you have to work together to achieve an objective against another team. Preparation, effort and decisive action typically win the day in both.
I have blabbed on about this for 20 years here on the Woppussy.
Job number one for a coach at any level is to get your team to play hard.
We do not play hard. Our Coaches have failed, for whatever reason.

Job number 2 is to know your talent and find a scheme they can execute. You can't play press man with a slow white CB (see last couple of years). You can't play a complex zone with a bunch of guys who struggle to even line up and who loaf every other play.
Good coaches try to hide less talented players in their scheme.
Good coaches also try to find the other team's less talented players and beat them over and over.

I honestly thought the defense would show up against Memphis after all the fuss was made by Sam about stopping the last-minute checks and
just let the athletes be athletes but I haven't seen a defense as lifeless as last Saturday's Hogs since the Morris debacle.
The only explanation I can think of is some kind of locker room fracture between players, defensive coaches, or both.

Last Saturday it was a flat out lay down by probably 8-10 players at any given time.

Quote from: animal on Sep 07, 2025, 02:29 PMTo me we look small on defense especially on the back end. Is Larry Worth not playing? I know he's a bigger guy as a versatile db/lb type. I just thought he had another year and haven't noticed him.
The open field tackling should improve as the season goes on. Would like to see better pursuit to the ball.
I think among the biggest things I've seen is we seem to bite on a lot of shit and get taken way out of position.
As Vegas say I highly doubt we've seen all this defense has to offer...probably have kept it fairly plain. But that's also cope so we'll feel better about ourselves for a more days.
