This could be something.
Game commentary is welcomed
I promise not to overreact no matter how this game goes.
Fuck Tennessee - sorry Mr Zorak. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
We gon win!
Pretty low standard for me - just show some effort and I'll be happy.
Fuck the refs and the ghost of Preston Watts
The line had been Tennessee (-13.5) pretty much all week. Late money coming in on the Hogs has it down to (-10.5).
You just know we're going to get drawn in to this game and then get gut punched in the end.
I hope we're competitive and get at least one BMFP meme out of the game.

Of course. But right now there's hope. Right now we are playing for something. I'll take it. I'll take just righting the ship some.
I'll take effort from the defense. Baby steps.

Good run
58% on third down is pretty fucking unreal with this group.
Go Bobby
Throwing it short of the line to gain.

100% chance Sam punts the football there.
Nice to have a coach with balls (and brains) again.
What is it about Tenn and refs?
Picked up three.
Anyone miss Sam yet?

BOBBY's BACK!!!!
Great offense. Now let's see if the defense has improved.
WOO PIG. Good start. Now let's see if our defense looks any different.
Sam punts and we get behind the 8 ball early. Give Bobby the job.
May be 100 pts scored in this game.
It's nice having an offense that makes every dc they face look like a bitch on the first drive. That's got to be a big morale shifter for your offense and their defense.
Starting a game 7-0 is huge.

Lets watch effort.
Nope
Didn't see any helmet taps yet
Ref tried to block for them lol
Uh...
Only guy 3 has hit all year
We have zero talent on defense
At least we made the tackle there. That's improvement. 2 weeks ago the entire secondary would have watched him jog into the end zone.
We had the lead in our last game too.
Well, the Defense doesn't look much different. Still way off the receivers, no push up front, 10yd given per play...
Well... the Ump did interfere..
Hit everything that moves. If the ref gets in the way, hit him too. Y'all playing like a bunch of little girls!

Blocking dummies. LAZY blocking dummies.
Our best defense will be long drives on offense.
As effort goes, you have try to be thi bad on defense
We gave them a little resistance
Quote from: Hogfan58 on Oct 11, 2025, 03:41 PMAs effort goes, you have try to be thi bad on defense

As expected, we're still ass on defense. Can't do much with the shitty players T-Will recruited and undeveloped.
Same same.
Will have to outscore.
Well, it's Ole Miss game part two
We will have to score every possession to have a chance. Our defense couldn't stop my grandson's 10U team.
Whose Heisman campaign are we jump-starting today?
Aggie-ar or the Bishop?
That was pretty impressive how bad the defense played. Almost can't be mad about it.

Some world class loafers.
They'll score every possession. We'll turn it over on offense.
Let's score in three plays here.
Hopefully Petrino is helping the defensive coaches figure out how to make adjustments
I was getting worried reading twitter the past 2 weeks seeing all the different decommits after TWill got fired. Not so worried now.
Gents, not to start anything, but how do we know our talent level when no effort is expended?
A talented guy dogging it is exactly like a dud dogging it. Trotting is trotting.
So if we hire Bobby and the supposed NIL increases materialize, we should spend on a QB (if Jackson isn't it), and put the rest of our money on defense. I'm convinced Bobby could find a way to score with damn near any receivers and RBs. Put the money on the side he won't be running.

I thought our fans were dumb, but Tennessee fans have showed their asses and booed some pretty obvious no-calls and calls alike.
Booed their QB getting pushed out of bounds, booed Cam Ball not getting a flag when he literally didn't do anything, booed for a no-call PI when their receiver straight up dropped the ball.
The Dodger fans of college football.

Identical offensive stats for both teams. Yet, TN fans feel much better about their defensive performance than we feel about ours.

Bingo.
That 2023 team was coached as poorly as any led by Morris or John L Smith.
We honestly should have negotiated a retirement after 2022. That team should have gone 9-3 at worst.
I'll say this. We are better than we were two weeks ago.
Somehow our third down defense is stout
Ok. Offense needs to do something.
Check that. Looks like TN might go for it.
When they went Wing-T we didn't have an answer.
Should be 5 on the clock. Not 4:58.
We're doing everything well except TOs. We make too many and don't force any.

Our answer was covered in butterfingers.
This isn't the same team that was on the field 2 weeks ago of even the two weeks before that.
I say this without any reservation. Same players, Petrino as coach the whole year, we are 4-1, at worst, and our chances of winning this game are 70% greater as well.
For one, our conditioning would be light years better and that would make a lot of things look better.
Great play

That 2023 team is almost as a what if as the 2012 team. You had a couple of 3rd year guys in KJ, Rocket, Johnson, Green, etc, decent depth on defense, a nails kicker in Cam Little, etc.
Sam wasted the year with terrible hires up and down the staff with Enos, Sowders, and Williams.
Wow
Green missed the throw down the sideline there.

Another "give us a break" injury.
Nothing wrong with this break. They stopped the clock for us.
Dang, that's a TD if it's on target to Shanks

Good Green.

Alright defense, it's your turn
Good Taylen.
I'm still fine with going on 4th down earlier. I think Taylen missed his read.

Hel fell on the ball. Knocked the air out of him. Done that before.
Offense did its job scoring with 2:55 left. TN had to run two plays before the 2 minute warning. Would have been third down after and we could use one timeout.
Now we will need to burn both TOs on D.
Good news is that took very little time off the clock.

Odd
Run and give up 15 probably.
Bad clock management.
We've scored more than I thought we would and gave up less than I thought we would. I expect with Sam on the sidelines, this looks more like the ND game.
Like most, I wish we would've kicked the FG. But, it's not like our kicker is cam little. I suspect BP thought the risk of missing the FG was higher than not getting 4 yards.
Nonetheless, I don't think this singular game decides his fate as our head coach one way or the other, unless he'd have won. I do think he needs to win at least two games.
Not sure why we didn't call a TO with 2:20 left.
Yeah, we should've called the other timeout there.
I mean, we'd still have to stop them on at least two chances to get 4 yards.
It just gives these boys confidence they can lose close games again.

It's a close game, against #12 on the road in Knoxville, and I'm mad about a few things that I think could have made the difference between a win and a loss.
So... overall I'm happy with it. The spread was tightening up as we got closer to the game, and we're still beating it with 2 minutes to go.
Excellent gang pwnage by our defense. They are playing as a team at least

Respectable. Coulda woulda shoulda
We played probably the best offensive team in the league tonight and held them about as well as anyone. We scored some in the second half.
We fixed quite a few things in the two weeks. We have a LOT more things to fix. Conditioning will help a ton and that can be done to a certain extent with just more uptempo practices but it is hard to make up for no offseason.

Actually I love Petrino and want him to be the coach. I'm in the never should have fired him club.
I was just being a smart ass.
I think the big thing is we don't appear to be strong or condiioned. Fumbling on O, RB's dragging our guys for extra yards are the biggest indicators. You can't fix that in 2 weeks or even in 6. D scheme seemed better with fewer guys way out of position. Don't turn the ball over and we win that game.
Losing sucks but there are levels of suckage in a loss. Had Sam been on the sidelines they would have rolled over and would have likely lost 51-17. So they hung in and fought back. But Bobby has to figure out how to stop the stupid turnovers by these brainless players. 4 terrible turnovers, and none gained. That rarely ends on a 3 point loss. JFB would be eating their ass all the way to Fayettenam airport. I would bench green and try another; his game awareness is total shit.
Yet again I'm reminded...

Bobby cleaned up the penalties and the defense in 2 weeks. The team held TN to its fewest points of the season. The team didn't quit when they got down by 17.
He will get the turnovers cleaned up. It's unrealistic to expect him to completely undo an entire offseason and almost half a season of Pittman stinch.
The fact that we could have won that game is
almost a coaching miracle.
He is still an elite coach and will win big again when he gets the job permanently.

He didn't say "I don't know what to do?"
Same Petrino from 2008. Team was not very good but he had a plan. We improved every game. That is what I'm looking for in our next coach.
I said before this stretch that if we look like the end of 2008 or 2009, give them man the job and whatever he wants. You could see we didn't have the pieces we needed yet, but we had a plan and the players were fully bought in and it WAS going to work...and it did.
The difference in not only execution, but just fight and effort between this and two weeks ago was...stunning. Right now, they THINK they can win. They need to tie up some things and actually win a couple and so they KNOW they can win. Big difference between thinking you can win and knowing you can win. Then comes expecting to win if you execute. Not just expecting to win, but knowing that if you execute, you are going to win. That is what our guys had in 2010/2011 for the most part. They didn't think they were going to win just by stepping on the field, but they even talking about plays that if they executed, they just knew they would score when it was called. Man, that hits different.

The offense played better at times, for sure. Not so sure about the defense. In the first half, I think almost every single pass Tennessee threw was to a wide fucking open receiver.

I still think there was a plan on 4th down, based on how quickly Green looked right as soon as he took the snap. Either they lucked into covering it with the safety, or he did what he tends to do and bailed out of the pocket too fast. Either way it's in Bobby's best interest to keep that secret to himself and save the play for later.
Or it could have just been a bad call. I'm one of the ones who aren't going to be mad about this game. Lot of people are saying a loss is a loss and is proof he's not the answer at head coach - as if a "better" coach could have turned a 13-56 home loss against Notre Dame into a 31-34 road loss against #12 Tennessee.

And those one or two wins are already in the books, unfortunately.
Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, that couldn't see the change in the team in just two weeks is either blind or retarded. There are still quite a few questions:
1. Will it stick. Will they continue to put out that effort even though they lost and continue to build on it?
2. Can they be fixed? Some issues, like effort, can 100% fixed if the team is 100% bought in. That is a certain thing. Then you can see what the CAPABILITY of the team really is. Then things get scary. Then you can see areas where a players is trying is 100% best and just can't do what is being asked of them, either physically or mentally.
2A. Physically: Is it because they aren't in shape or not strong enough? Those CAN be fixed but take time and not likely to be fully fixed during the year. Granted, being out of shape can make you look weaker than you really are so conditioning has to be priority 1, but again, that is hard to fix during the year. Exhaustion looks like weakness. Need to fix that to find out what our true strength is compared to the competition. Our line (OFFENSIVE) got ran over a couple of times last night 100% because they were sucking air and worn out. That isn't excusable.
2B. Physically Unable: Dude is 100% effort, 100% in shape but just can't do it. Either isn't big enough, strong enough or fast enough to compete in the SEC. Can't really fix that without recruiting your way out of that or using scheme to hide them but that can only get you so far.
2C. Mentally: This comes down to mostly the QB, Line and some defense like LB/DB's. Can they recognize what they are seeing in real-time and make the right read with the speed required and then execute. I think we are seeing a lot of this. If you are going to run complex schemes, on offense or defense, you have to run exacting and demanding practices that demand PERFECTION with repetition until it is second nature. OVer and over and over and over until when they see something, their mind and body just react on instinct. I'm 99% certain our practices were not run that way. You can fix that by getting smarter players or simplifying the scheme. We simplified the scheme on defense and they looked amazingly better. They still gave up some plays, but you have to remember that TN is one of the best offenses in the nation, at home, zero turnovers and we held them better than anyone this year. That is quite an accomplishment for this defense. Dudes got open, but they weren't all alone like they have been the last few games.
3. Toughness: This is where those summer practices come in and just all the practices in general come in. Perfection in everything with consequences for everything. We aren't tough and haven't been for over a decade. That is why we do so many stupid things like fumble so much and commit so many penalties. Those things add up and are a cultural thing. Once they are acceptable, they are acceptable and it is hard to cut out that rot. This will take time to remove.
Going forward, as much as wins/losses, I want to see how these things progress. Much like late 2008 and in 2009, I EXPECT to see us not have the players to compete with the top teams, but have many of these fixable things fixed and then have to recruit into some players to improve further.
Conditioning and depth. Those are our problems. Last night we looked like in the 3rd quarter we looked like a runner who hits the wall. But we kept plugging and found new energy.

Yep, the problem is that during that 3rd quarter, things got away from us. We came back but we need to get our conditioning up so we don't have that. I was proud of them for finding their second wind and looking like the fresher/more inspired team for much of the 4th.

I'm not going to look this up so maybe I'm just pulling it out of my ass/misremembering it, but haven't shitty third quarters been a feature of Sam's time at Arkansas?
It's conditioning and attitude. BP took some blame and said he got stubborn when Tenner made some adjustments but I wonder how much of that just comes down to execution?
I just have faith in BP. He will get results. I'll concede that there are theoretically better/younger coaches out there for us. The odds of getting one of the here when it looks like there are going to be three or four openings in the SEC alone? Bad bad year to be coach shopping. Take the bird in the hand. Give him the resources, or don't. Give him the same NIL as Sam. He'll still get results. This team is 5-1 right now if it is a true BP team from the get go.
Only Arkansas media post-game I want to listen to.

I was proud of them for finding their second wind and looking like the fresher/more inspired team for much of the 4th.
I wonder if it is really just "conditioning" or maybe it's just "they got bigger badder motherfuckers" than we got.

116 in the nation in turnovers.

So you are saying there's room for improvement
I'm gonna choose that to mean 115 teams have more turnovers than us. It makes me feel better.

I think a little bit could be this, but the vast majority is conditioning (physically being tired) and also conditioning being used to being hit. I suspect our practices are baby-shit soft. Possibly that is by design to avoid injuries because we lack depth, but also because we have had a long string of pussies as head coaches.

The crown of helmet on the ball in the TN game. I don't think many ball carries NFL or college were holding on to that one. It was just a perfect hit. But. Probably would have broke one of our defenders necks in the reverse situation.

Yeah but nobody turns it over at exactly the right moment like we do.
Soul crushing? Yeah, now's the time.

This sums up all Razorback sports to a tee.
You should make that your signature. Just brilliant.

It's a prerequisite for being QB1 for the Hogs.

There is a lot of "I suspect" in this post. Not saying you are wrong, just maybe you are guessing.

Down 34-17 after another disastrous 3rd qtr., obviously because old man Petrino is washed up.
Sams team ends up losing that game 48-20 because his players quit on him. Petrino coached them for 2 weeks and they turned that deficit into a loss by 3.
Instead, we turn that into 34-31, on the road, against the highest scoring offense in the SEC.
We committed 4 turnovers, and 1 penalty on offense.
Give that man his money

Russell should not have been as straight up as he was when the defender dislodged the ball. If his pads had been lower, the defender wouldn't have been able to put the crown on the ball.

Let me tell you something sooiesoldier. You not putting this on Bray. No sir. I'll see you at the Alma Sonics.
Bishop Booger --
I also watched our other guys, including Green put two arms on the ball when expecting contact.

And Green still fumlbed eleventy billion times in the game. Yikes.
I wonder about Green's fumbles, because he has a lot of them. Is there something he could do differently outside of finding a way to avoid contact that would prevent the strip sacks? Maybe something about how he's holding the ball? Most if not all of his fumbles come on these types of plays.
I never played QB and don't know shit about the mechanics of the position.

Bobby has talked about this a few times over the last two weeks. Said that Green needs to recognize that when he is running for his life he needs to know that there is a defender right on his heels. Cover the ball up and get whatever you can get running. Live to see another down.

Green's fumbles come from when he is scrambling and trying to pass and make a play. When he is actually running the ball, he has pretty good ball security.

He did talk about that. He said specifically when he was running left. To throw the ball, you have to open your body directly into the pursuing defender. It's a big fuck up that will lead to fumbles.
I never watched the kid at Boise State so I don't know if he was prone to the same type fumble while there, but playing in the SEC is probably the first time in his life he has had defensive lineman who could keep up with him and be anywhere near him.

Not disagreeing with that necessarily, but I was responding to the suggestion that it was related to conditioning and fatigue. I think that has more to do with technique and coaching. I don't think a helmet on the ball like that is a conditioning issue, especially since he shouldn't have been anywhere near fatigued given his involvement. Greens fumbling issues could be such, given he's running for his life a lot, but he's very loose with the ball, even when running. He's usually toting the ball in one hand.
