The Hogs are 4 point favorites. This is the first of back to back road games and Ole Miss sucks this year. Let's take care of business and go to Auburn.
Auburn will be looking to fuck someone after that debacle at eATMe. Or at least the officials. Or maybe not since the students pelted them as they were leaving the court.

They seem a little better than their record. Doubt they can hold up for the second half.
Good finish
Good last few minutes. Lead just swings back and forth from 4 to 10.
Let's flip that switch and build it a little more to start the second half.
Good half for Thomas and Brazile.
Great run to finish the half.
I have to ask. Why does DJ Wagner play other than to give Acuff 5 minutes of rest? He's awful. Horrible basketball instincts. He passes a wide open 3 to drive in among the bigs and get stuffed. He gets beat on the ball on defense. He had 0 points and did nothing.
Give his 20 minutes to Sealy and you get better production.
Cal has a huge blind spot for the kid.

It's the gritty way Beard coaches. He switches defensive looks between man and zone mid possession. His offenses are always frenzied in the half court. The ball never stops if you notice. Ever. They don't play full court fast but half court fast.

I may be in the minority but I like DJ. He is a solid on ball defender. Offensively, he's improved his shooting but he is a tweener position wise. Too small to be a SG and not enough of a playmaker to be a PG. He's a serviceable guard. Kid does bring effort every night.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers after this season. He needs to play someone where he can prove himself as THE guy. He's not going to be able to do that here.

Forget the stats.
He can't shoot. He doesn't play under control. He makes bad decisions. And he's overrated as a defender. He doesn't get steals.
Give Sealy a shot at some of his minutes. Sealy has better size and plays hard.
I would love for the kid to figure it out.

I think if you were in a position to have DJ need to start , he would resume a similar level of play as he did last year. He does not seem to do nearly as well coming off the bench.

Wagner is a key player for us. Someone has to be the unselfish guy who just puts his head down and plays defense.
Billy does that to an extent, but as he showed last year you can't trust him to run point when Acuff or Wagner isn't in the game.

So much for this idea. We continue to vacillate between 4 and 10. I wish we would hit a stretch of defense where they can't score and put these guys away. If they're still in it at the end of a game, home court and home cooking usually comes up big.

That's such a huge thing. A professional PG you can just put the ball in their hands and he has all dimensions - handle, 3 if open, drive if not, dish if it's there.
Quite the luxury.

Getting a road win anywhere in the SEC is worth clinking glasses. Even good teams lose at some of the most godawful places. Specifically us at Oxford and Starkville for some reason. And yeah I know a lot of ours between Nolan and Muss weren't good teams.
I hated everything about that game last night, except for the outcome.
The pace of the game. It took me back to the days of Eddie Sutton ball when the Hogs were playing Weber State. The last few minutes of the game were ticking down and the score was 47 to 38. Obviously the score of the game was into the 90s for both teams, but it sure seemed slow to me. The game lasted forever.

Acuff's quickness when he drives is a luxury I don't recall us ever having...ever. Not to his level anyway. He's so quick, it's forcing defenses to collapse. They have no choice, otherwise he has blown by his defender and will kill them with teardrop floaters all game. And when they do collapse hard, he finds the open man. Our ceiling will be how well our guys can consistently hit their uncontested shots (Captain Obvious).

I don't think anyone is picking the 5'8" guy who is equally quick as the 6'3 guy but also a sub 30% outside shooter with a shorter three point line, pickup game or otherwise.
I think with Acuff that his ability, knack and willingness to kick the ball out with good accuracy and control while penetrating is the biggest difference in previous guys the past 25 years. We've had guys be able to penetrate the lane but then just bull rush the rim or get stuck in the lane. I don't really recall Acuff losing his step very often. He seems to always know where the open guys are.
Like I've said before I just love the way Acuff gets to the next level with so little fuss. He doesn't waste time setting up his man with all these one on one moves, he just goes and there isn't anything they can do to stop it. It's just a thing of beauty.
