His current records after just his 26th game as a freshman guard for the Hogs also reads like the stuff of legend. We're all watching greatness, so let's document it and look at some numbers.
Acuff record tracker update:
-Fastest Hog ever to 150 assists and 500 points, and Mayberry is the only other player to also accomplish that.
-Most points scored by a Hog in a regular season conference game
-Most points scored by a Hog on the road in any game.

Gafford would be sick too, but I think Jaylin offered a lot more than just being a charge taker. He just became known for it given the rules then. Our bigs are just slims and don't offer anything of particular importance on offense or defense. Pringle and Ewin combined for 43 last night and a whopping 3 points and 8 total rebounds.
I think we needed a wide bodied Corliss type to throw with the Corey Beck but with points guy (Acuff).

Something I ran across today while doing some reading on Mayberry:
Mayberry's professional teams had a record of 139–357 in games in which he played, giving him a career winning percentage of .280. "As of January 2022, Mayberry has the lowest career winning percentage of any player who appeared in 400 or more games."

Putting this here because someone compared him with Oweh today in the game thread.
Oweh scored his career high tonight against Auburn. 29 points.
Which Acuff AVERAGED over a seven game stretch as BF posted above.

That's pretty crazy. Looks like the closest is Mayberry who had an 18/11 game against Chaminade in his Sr. year
I was quietly hoping he would get to 30/15 which is an unworldly stat line. Especially for a freshman PG against a P4 tourney team.
He followed up beating the shit out of Texas by working with the FHS varsity boys this morning. Source my 15 year old who was super stoked to meet him today. What a great dude
He really seems to be a good kid. Doesn't showboat. Doesn't taunt orher players. Just enjoys playing the game and wants to win.
Got the chance to meet him last summer. Said he loved being in Fayetteville.
Seems like the recruits coming in next year are cut from the same mold.
Amazing to score that many points each game while also dishing to others to score. This is about the most unselfish team we have ever had..

Thanks.
I'd pick him number one just for his marketability. Actually, I'd pick him number one because he's the best point guard in a while. Combine the two...
He would be almost a guaranteed top 3 pick in almost any other year, but this year is just different. It really just depends on where the ping pong balls fall and who has the top picks. Or of course somebody could trade up. The Bucks desperately need a PG so I could see them trading Giannis to move up. Also the Mavs. Pacers or Wizards (worst records and highest chance to get the top 2 picks) won't draft him because they have Haliburton and Trae, respectively. He's already proven his worth this season, but he is going to really impress at the combine.
don't want to see him go to the kings, jazz, or the hawks. i think those other guards will go before him anyway. the mavs would be a good spot. he and flagg can be the foundation of the team for a lot of years.
Agree. The height thing is going to be an issue vs some of the other guards. Also no to Brooklyn or Memphis.

I hope this happens. I'd drive to Dallas to watch them. If they're smart, they'll look at the baseball tournament crowds and realize how big an Arkansas presence there is in that area.
The other thing about pairing him w/ Flagg is they would be on back-to-back rookie contracts for a few years. That frees up a lot of free agent money to bring in another big name or 2. And keep Gafford down there too. Imagine the lobs from Acuff to Flagg and Gafford.
With all due respect to his current teammates, I will watch some NBA to see him do his thing with a couple of NBA horses on the other end of his passes. Memphis is drivable once a year when he comes through town.
Like him or not, Rich Paul seems to be a fan of Acuff.

I had no idea what we actually had with Acuff coming into this year. We've had tons of hype with true freshman guys like Nick smith, Boogie Fland, etc, but neither or any have put up anything close to Acuff, in my adult life. It's just been refreshing to watch him play and seem like he just legitimately wants to win at all cost, despite being injured or possibly needing to manage such injury to assure his future payday.
I have never in my life bought a player's basketball jersey. I bought an Acuff jersey the other day. I will wear it proudly.
his 60 points are the most ever by a freshman in his first two ncaa tournament games.
the previous record of 57 was held by zion williamson and kevin durant.

Good Lord. He's literally breaking records everytime he takes the court.
Imagine if halfway through our season he wanted practice "knee management".
He's literally Todd Day and Lee Mayberry wrapped into one.

Unreal how he has learned the game and turned it on like that
And experts will still only call him a "top five" draft pick
Pretty bad ass.

Is that Iverson? He was my favorite to watch in that era. Acuff reminds me a lot of him
Acuff won a 1v1 contest in HS that was put on by Iverson and Reebok. They built a relationship afterwards. Acuff recently signed a contract with Reebok.
Who was Acuff asked about in the press conference after last night's game? Some Portland guy said you know you're a lot like a guy who played in this building. Acuff's response said something like yeah I know Dan.
Who are they talking about? Some Portland Trailblazer?
Lillard.
Quote from: Doc Hogaday on Mar 22, 2026, 05:14 PMLillard.
So Acuff was saying Dam not Dan?
For better or worse I don't know who this is.
Damian Lillard - Wikipedia https://share.google/MDgAWiBWAVeT7cxBr
He's pretty much been compared to every great point guard by different people I've watched.
I'm pretty sure he said throughout high school and even this year that Dame is the guy he most compared his own game to or at least modeled after. If you don't know who Dame is then you definitely haven't watched a lick of NBA ball in over 10 years.
He is not as good of a shooter as Dame (yet), but is definitely better at getting to the rack.

Guilty. If you had me select Damian Lillard from a multiple choice pictorial lineup, I'd have picked this guy.

I have one. Dr. J. It's in a frame.
You could certainly do worse.
I got to thinking about something today. No matter how good Jordan Smith is, he's going to be unfairly compared to Acuff next season. Hope he's ready for it and overcomes any negativity from any idiots that bash him for not being Acuff.
It would be awesome if by some small chance we are arguing about who was better, Acuff or Smith.

The Calipari problem.
It's a good one to have.
His consistency is what amazes me. Has he even had a bad game? I don't think he's failed to reach double digit points in a single game. Best I recall is his low game of 18.
He had 12 against Winthrop and 10 against Jackson St.
Since SEC play started, his lowest scoring was 17 against USC-E and FL.

The last time I thought he had a bad game, I checked the box score and it was "Oh, he had 24 and 5"

I told a buddy of mine last week that Acuffs agent was a busy man. They know who's going to be the biggest star out of this class.
coach chin talks about how he discovered acuff and a little of the recruiting process.

ordered a jersey off ebay. it actually wasn't that expensive, so it's probably a cheap chinese knockoff of a nike jersey. it will look the same in my closet. i doubt i'll wear it.
This is all setting up for Acuff to play his worst game vs Arizona...

i kind of had the same thought. the hype machine jinx. hopefully darius the great says "fuck that" and goes off for 50 points, 12 assists, no turnovers.

Seriously, he has started out a little slow in a few games. He comes on stronger as the game goes on though. If he can hit 50% of his shots, he will be fine. It seems Thomas picks up the slack if Acuff is off a little at the start of the game. I have all the confidence in the world in Acuff. He puts the team on his back when it matters and carries us through.
We still haven't had a game all year where everyone showed up. Let's have it be this game.
how brazile, ewin, and pringle play will determine if acuff even has a chance to win it for us.
It's going to be interesting to see how aggressive we are defensively. I'm not sure we can play the "we'll just outscore you" game against AZ. I really think Cal has pulled back our aggressiveness defensively since our rotation has dwindled. We really need Pringle back. If he can give us 20 solid mins it would be huge.
Quote from: vegashog on Mar 24, 2026, 04:08 PMhow brazile, ewin, and pringle play will determine if acuff even has a chance to win it for us.
Acuff is a dog and if I had to pick one I want the ball in his hands at crunch time but I've thought since about 10 games in this team will go as far as Brazile takes us. If he's active on the glass and policing the bucket on help defense we're a tough out for anyone. He's still disappeared a few times this year but overall way more consistent than years past. Been fun to watch him grow up a bit and realize some of that potential.
Yes. If Brazile, BR3, Leek, Ewin, and Darius the Great are all clicking on all cylinders, we'll beat anybody by 20. Arizona, Duke, and Michigan included.
Remember that game against Cincy... They had just beaten Michigan and scored over 100 in that game. That and the Texas (thank you Jesus) game are the closest we have come to clicking on all cylinders.

Agreed. He is going to HAVE to show up and not wilt. If he can get confidence early then watch out.
Stephon Marbury (https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/stephon-marbury-clears-air-on-darius-acuff-jr-comparison/ar-AA1Zjn4Y?ocid=msedgntp&pc=DCTS&cvid=69c3efac404e4469b46c2d448975b50f&ei=33)
Stephon Marbury speaks about Acuff.
I was interested about what a guy who passed through GT for a year had to say about our guy.
"He's better," Stephon Marbury's official account commented. "He has the size that separates!"
By way of comparison:
"Marbury enjoyed a 13-year career in the NBA after his time at Georgia Tech, and averaged 19.3 points and 7.6 assists per game. He played for the Knicks, Suns, Nets, Timberwolves and Celtics.
At Georgia Tech, Marbury played one season where he averaged 18.9 points and 4.5 assists per game on shooting splits of 45.7%/37.0%/73.8%."
Acuff is better...by a lot. In fairness to Stephon, Stephon's friends were not nearly what Acuff has. I am glad Marbury was blunt about Acuff, nary a 'but' in sight. That is a nice little floor for Acuff's NBA career.

Sidney Moncrief went 5th overall as our highest draft pick. Anthony Black is second at 6th overall.
I think Darius goes in the top 3 picks.

Just know that those aren't Acuff's signature shoe. That's just a particular color of a line that they are using him and other players to promote. His shoe won't drop till the fall. If that matters to you.

It doens't. Reviews say they are heavy and clunky. I already do that on my own. I don't need a shoe compounding the issue. Not sure what I'm going to get but those don't seem to be the right fit for what I need.

The last 2 basketball shoes I've bought were the Anta Kai 3 and the Way of Wade 808 Ultra v2. Love them both.
If you're looking for a more mid top shoe, I really liked the Jordan 39 I bought last year. The 40 is out this year and probably perform the same. I'm not a big fan of the look of the 40.
A cheaper option would be finding the KD 18 on sale. Never worn them but they look good.
I was looking at the KD 18.
I need something with a lot of cushion due to severe knee pain.
Its crazy how many basketall shoes are out there now.
See if you can find a pair of the Jordan 40 to try on. The 39 is the most comfortable and has the most cushion of any basketball shoe I've worn.

Didn't love the helmet.
Unless it's AI or fake, I ran across a Facebook posting from one of the Arkansas Razorback things that Darius Acuff's mother had passed away.
