Title: Woopig.org -- Fixes and updates!
Post by: One Quarter on Feb 19, 2026, 10:54 AM
I'm sure y'all have noticed me messing with the theme to try to get a dark mode switcher working.  I know there are UI problems, and thanks to everyone reporting them in the test thread.

I'm working on fixes and updates for everything.  A twitter/X embedder fix is now in effect, which should mean that "NEW" takes you to the latest unread post without bouncing you back up several posts randomly.  I'd appreciate hearing anything you notice about that fix.  If it just works and nobody notices anything, that's the outcome I'm after.

The current theme is just too convoluted to fix element-by-element.  My plan is to create a new one from scratch that keeps everything we like about this one, but looks updated and will be easier to fix.  No core features are going to change, but we can add new ones if we think of them.

Later today, I'm going to post some mockup images of what the unified theme might look like so I can get your opinions before making changes.

In the meantime, thanks for bearing with me, and watch for how that twitter fix works.

Mockups for comment.  These are just quick rebrands of existing themes; our actual new theme would have the standard logo, fonts, and colors.  All functions would remain the same.

The first two are "Purple Haze"-derived, light and dark.  The others are "Repulse"-derived, light and dark.  Let me know what you like or hate.

I've got everything set up so that changes can happen in near real-time.  Y'all use it for a couple days and report here if anything's wrong.

It feels like everything loads faster now too.  The twitter/X embedder was using some really old code that X doesn't even accept anymore, so it's a wonder it was even working.

I don't know, mine (desktop, not phone) is kind of in the maroon area of the color spectrum that reminds me of A&M or Miss St. Not the red of Arkansas.

Light/dark mode icon not appearing for some people: noted.  What do you see across the very top of the page?  It's supposed to have your avatar/profile link, then inbox, notification, and light/dark mode icons.

About the red: this was a first pass to get up and running; I'll put unified color scheme on the list as well.

Weird, it worked the first time I tried to quick quote but didn't on subsequent times I clicked it, but just kept adding quotes. Mostly just user error I guess there. Location of it being at the bottom is just personal preference and how it's been, but no worries. Thanks for working on it. I like the colors and being able to see avatars on the I phone in the upright position.

Did the old version have breadcrumbs? Because these are nice. They only show one sub level

woopig.org > Woopig.org -- Fixes and updates!

It would help navigation if it had the sub forum

woopig.org > Mainboard > Woopig.org  -- Fixes and updates!

I hate to complain, but if I had a vote I would vote for going back to the way the old board was layed out.

Not sure how to describe what troubles me about it. It seems like there should be darker lines of demarcation between each successive post. I'm having to bear down and concentrate to figure out just exactly who is saying what, especially when one poster is quoting annother poster and then commenting on it. Everything seems to run together.

I'm also not seeing the post count for each poster. I think there's value being able to see how many posts a particular poster has made.

Maybe making the name section a little darker would help separate posts from one another.

Well the old theme is gone...I was gonna send you back there all alone.

I'm sure they'll be some fixes as time moves on. This looks like SMF still and that style of board is extremely limiting and very outdated. Boards in general are pretty outdated. I'm sure if there's someone among us that's capable of helping out with the styling and creativity they can reach out to One Quarter or DRYANKPULL and that could be arranged.

My guess is he's trying to get the backend a lot better before focusing so much on the user experience.

I don't quite understand this one, but I'll note it for the subsequent release.  I'm rushing dark/light mode and legibility fixes this morning before the games today.

Also, for everyone, it'd be helpful if you'd just give a quick "iOS/Safari" or "Windows/Firefox" or "Helio Ocean/Netscape" after typing an issue here.

As someone posted earlier, when you hit user actions, it darkens the screen and you have to scroll pretty far up the screen to get to reply. It isn't on the quick reply. This is on safari.

WPF 0.1.4 Release Notes:

### 🌗 Dark Mode Fixes
* **iOS/Safari Visibility:** The sun/moon toggle icons have been completely rebuilt using inline SVGs instead of a webfont. This guarantees the icons will display correctly on strict mobile browsers (like iOS Safari and Chrome) without rendering as blank squares.

### 📝 Post & Reading Experience
* **Bigger Text:** Increased the default font size of post body text by 25% (now 20px) to significantly improve legibility, especially on high-resolution screens.
* **Post Spacing:** Added a 20px gap between individual posts and padded the bottom of each post's internal content to prevent the forum from feeling "run together".
* **Clearer Demarcation:** Each post is now fully boxed by a distinct, neutral 1px gray border to separate them cleanly from the background in both light and dark modes.
* **Better Quotes:** Increased the thickness and updated the color of the left border on quote blocks (`blockquote`) so quoted text stands out clearly against normal replies.

### 👤 User Info & Signatures
* **Scaled User Panes:** The size of user avatars alongside posts has been reduced from 100px to 75px. The auxiliary user text (post count, title, etc.) has also been shrunk by 25% so it doesn't visually overpower the actual post content.
* **Signature Separation:** User signatures have been differentiated from main post text. The signature text size is now smaller, its opacity is reduced to 60%, and the harsh red separator line has been replaced with a neutral gray line that works gracefully in both theme modes.

### 📱 Layout Adjustments
* **Wider Desktop View:** The main forum wrapper now uses 90% of your browser window width rather than a fixed maximum width, allowing better use of screen real estate on desktop monitors.
* **Mobile White Space:** Removed excessive vertical white spacing that was appearing above and below the reply boxes on narrow mobile screens.

---

Note: You may need to perform a "Hard Refresh" (`Ctrl + F5` or `Cmd + Shift + R`) on your browser to clear your old CSS cache and see all the new changes.

Alright!  Noting for future fixes:

** Mobile: on tap, User Actions overlay generates menu options vertically distant from viewport, requiring scrolling, if the user even figures out what's wrong
** Mobile: breadcrumbs get compressed to Woopig.org > [Current Topic] only, making navigation difficult

We're all getting old here, son.  But yeah, I'll see how I like it in practice and maybe back it off a little.  I'm trying to have the theme be 100% unified across browsers, desktop and mobile, no theme switching.  There's probably a way to dynamically adjust for mobile.  You can also reduce Safari's font size just for you, but that may then apply to every website you use.

Quote from: One Quarter on Feb 21, 2026, 12:25 PMWe may need to increase the contrast between the post box and the black background in dark mode for that.

Short answer: I like it and have been looking to migrate away from Firefox as it just seems like it gets slower with every update and they keep adding all this shitty AI to everything. ULAA doesn't seem to give many fucks about AI.

Long answer

I just tried it out a couple months ago and liked how it divides up profiles so that you can easily have a work profile vs personal and so on. It's pretty security focused and really doesn't have much of a look and feel of a chrome browser. I've tried many chrome based browsers (Chrome, Chromium, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera...they are mostly all very similar and work reasonably well)...I think you can probably even do the profile things with those others but ULAA makes a point of steering you toward that right out of the box. There's also stuff like split view which can give you kind of a tiling window manager view without the tiling window manager part so you can be looking at woopig while also using the browser for other stuff in the other pane. You can also put tabs into groups to help organize if you one of these people that have like 30 tabs open at the same time. split view is really good on a large 4k monitor...again this can probably be set up on any browser ULAA just made it a little more seen I guess. I knew about those features before but never really remembered about them. You can also do multiple split view tabs.

The one thing that seems to be a bit of a dud with all the Chrome but not chrome browsers is syncing can be really hit and miss and kind of a pain to set up. I've gone to ditching browser password managers and have my own instance of Bitwarden (Vaultwarden) running on Unraid, that container has it's own tailscale ip so I can use Vaultwarden on any device that has tailscale and it basically acts as a reverse proxy without all the fuss. So all my shit including credit cards is stored locally and not on somebody else's computer. I've already completely erased my firefox passwords and will eventually do google too but I need to probably be a bit more delicate with that since my sister likes to use my shit and save god only knows to it (she aint getting access to my Vault). In a perfect world I would also completely erase all the passwords from Bitwarden in the cloud as the password manager programs are huge targets for cyber attacks. Anyway that's been mostly my focus lately along with setting up all that AI shit for my security cameras which has been a learning experience.

Anyway point being no matter what browser I'm on the password manager is the same experience. Or at least that's the idea. No autofilling coming from the browser meaning they are logging keystrokes, aren't saving your addresses, aren't trying to save every little thing about you because you just turned off that shit off and are relying on your own server to serve that information to you as needed. So it works pretty well that way. I was trying to take it a bit further this morning by even removing the btiwarden browser extensions and relying on the pc for that but on my desktop at the house it seems that was a bit too fucked up so I abandoned the idea for now. My tiling window manager (Niri) isn't playing nice with all this polkit this and authenticator that and the google machine isn't much help. Niri is just too new for the AI's to really know what to do with it. But ideally you could have each pc have it's own program (bitwarden, goldwarden, vaultwarden) managing passwords and autofills and not have any browser extensions to have to keep logging into to.

Preaching to the choir, my friend.  I have a plaintext .odt file now that's gitignored for non-critical website passwords.  The standard password management on macOS and iOS works really well for non-technical use, but I'm managing everything now on linux and don't trust anything besides my private text file.

I've began using authenticator apps for multi factor auth and that works pretty well...I like it over it trying to send a text to my cell phone. It never fails I'll need to open something and can't because amaze balls the cell service went to shit right when I needed it most.

Stuff like Yubikey would probably work well but I don't know that I'd like having to rely on carrying that around or getting multiples just to log into shit.

I just recently figured out I could have been using Bitwarden instead of Google Authenticator app but whatever. I think I can probably use both at the same time but that gets into the weeds. Some day I'm going to try to really deGoogle my shit

Hell Reddit is real bad I have to log in by "email me me a link" + be on that very computer/phone and click the link then it wants an authenticator app token on top of all that.

Also on dark mode in safari there is no barrier between posts. In light mode you see a ligtt hr wt bar strip across the name and avatar but i think if that was for defined and shaded or something it wouldn't look like im scrolling through one continuous post. The thing i have the most trouble with is it looks like one continuous rolling page. It's hard to decipher between each poster like before

WPF v0.1.5 Release Notes: Performance & Media Update

This update fundamentally changes how media is handled on woopig, bringing massive performance gains.  I completely ripped out the legacy `SimpleAudioVideoEmbedder` plugin and the old Twitter cache system, replacing them with a state-of-the-art, custom-built media engine.

The old plugin was silently killing server performance.  Every time you opened a topic, the server had to pause and run dozens of complex, heavy database checks and text replacements before it could even begin sending the page to your browser.  Worse, it was blindly injecting heavy, render-blocking tracking scripts from social media algorithms directly into our pages.

The new WPF Embedder is 100% client-side.  The server no longer processes media links, it just serves blazing-fast raw text.  The new lightweight JavaScript engine runs in your browser after the page text has already loaded, meaning you can start reading immediately without waiting on Twitter or TikTok servers to respond.  The engine caches media intelligently in your browser.  If someone posts a video you've already scrolled past, it loads instantly with zero network delay and zero database queries.  I've contained embeds into strict, native iframes, eliminating the third-party tracking script bloat that caused page jumps and layout shifts, and incidentally, was a privacy problem.

You can continue pasting links exactly as you always have. The new engine natively detects and wraps:

YouTube (Standard & Shorts)
X / Twitter
TikTok
Reddit

Instagram

Before even looking at it, I'd have to ask if anyone even uses it.  I can't remember using it myself.  Testing it just now, it looks like it works as you'd expect.

I really like the changes.  Especially the new dark mode.
All these young whipper snappers complaining about the large font can talk to me in a few years.  They will find out.

Thanks for the effort!

Especially if it's loading pics or videos or x links, mine takes a few seconds. When I click NEW I do see old posts. But if I close my eyes and count to 10, everything is loaded and I am at the proper place.

One more navigation request. On the old board, there was an "updated topics" button that took you to new replies only on the threads that you've posted in. Makes it easy to keep up with the stuff you're interested in.

I agree some bold black lines surrounding each post would help. It would also help if the date of each post was written in darker black.

I am 47 and have worn contacts since I was 14.  I bought my first pair of readers today.  I made fun of a former coworker for having the large font on his text messages.  I now understand.  Getting old sucks and I appreciate the work done on the board.

It has probably been mentioned, but one issue I have on my phone is the "Go" button at the bottom after you get thru a post doesn't show up.  I have to click on home, then go back to the mainboard, crapola, etc.  I'm on an Iphone.

Minor bitch and again I appreciate the work being done.

# Release v0.1.6 (2026-02-22-01)

*  Optimized Breadcrumb Compression: Modified breadcrumb collapse on narrow screens. Instead of stripping everything except "Home" and "Topic", the breadcrumbs now retain the immediate parent board.

*  Increased Tap Targets for Unread Topics: Added 10px of vertical padding to the individual rows within the Unread and Unread Replies lists.

*  Full-Width Bottom 'Unread' Button: Restyled the 'Unread' button at the bottom of topic pages to span the full 100% width of the content wrapper, replacing the previously right-aligned inline style.

Also, is there anyway we can get the ability to make multiple attachments per post. Right now it's limited to 1,even when I'm under the size (mpeg) limited.

For example, see my attachments in the "Darius the Great," thread. I wanted to post Acuffs and Mayberrys stat pages in 1 post, but couldnt. I had to post Acuffs, then reply with a another post for Mayberrys.

There was an "unread posts" button. Did it get done away with?
I always clicked it and it brought up all post (not topic) I hadn't read regardless of which topic it was posted in. It Was an easy was to catch up on everything with one click.

Perhaps the "unread topics" button defaults to unread post/topics both?

Idk but they seemed to work independently different before.

Thanks for your time and effort on revamping the board. I like it [except my missing button]!

That's the one I would like to have back. Displays only the new posts in threads you've been active in.

Only one other tweak and I'll shut up. Can you move the quote button to the bottom of the post? On longer posts, you have to scroll back up to find it.

I really don't care if he's here or not but I agree it's sorta not woopig to ban people that was the muzzy way. It's more perplexing how he uses the board to just constantly tout himself and shit on everyone and call them low life's yet he still sticks around. It's like sometimes it feels very HS but maybe he has no friends.

You know you can reach out to One Quarter if your scroll button isnt working. Then whenever a poster who you dont like makes a post, you can scroll right on past it. As in, you dont even have to read what someone typed on a message board that then shows up on your screen.

Listen, I know that might sound like a really difficult thing to do..to just scroll on past words...on your screen. I mean this internet thing is really fucking serious, I get that, but it's possible.

I don't understand the need to compare an obvious moderation need to whatever the fuck Nobville does and he wasn't banned he was moderated to Crapola. He's free to participate there.

I've been here a long long time and this romantic version of woopig some of you have is...well wrong. We have always had a long leash and but that doesn't mean we never ban or restrict anyone. That's the entire reason for "Banished to Crapola".

Certainly if someone wants to out vote me they are welcome to it.

I take moderation stuff very seriously and certainly never want to ban or banish but also feel as though it's needed if it's causing a loss of member participation just because three of you want to relive the skullfuck days in which you probably werent even here for.

Jesus H that reads like a Muzzy post, brother. "I've been here a long time, and I take this moderation stuff seriously.." Did you consult with anyone like OQ or DrYank before making this call? Because if not, you're treating this like your own little playground, and it's not. This was not an "obvious moderation need," because he never posted overt racism nor porn. He's just really fucking annoying. Nothing in the rules against that.

I appreciate your efforts Animal, but the lack of moderation is EXACTLY why many of us are here, and not at Hogville or wherever else they love to build their little circle jerks and ban dissent.

Is he banned from posting or he can only respond in crapola? I mean at this point it's got to be a real hit to the ego that he can't jump in. You know none of the other boards want  him. We'll take him but I'd rather you post shit about him this pic than ban him.  That seems more the woopig way.

It makes you think that he's probably not that successful and needs a place where he can pretend to be cool because everyone IRL doesn't give a fuck. # Release Notes: WPF v0.1.10

## What's New & Improved

### UI & Navigation Enhancements
* **New "Updated" Button:** Added an "Updated" button to the top header that shows a list of unread topics you've posted in.
* **Quote Button Repositioning:** "Quote" button that used to sit at the top-right of every post box has been relocated to the bottom-right (alongside the signature/moderator bar).
* **Quote Readability:** Quote blocks size slightly dialed up for readability.

### Backup & Security Upgrades
* **Session Security Boost:** Upgraded the algorithm that generates and encrypts user session IDs from MD5 to the significantly more secure SHA-256 standard, keeping logins safer.
* **Automated DB Backup:** Weekly database backup ensures that catastrophic site failure can only result in loss of a few days of content.

Please hard refresh to see the changes, and let me know if anything looks off or misbehaves.

I appreciate all the changes but may I make one request so my eyes don't go cross eyed scrolling down. Can the title of the threads be a larger font and bold? As is when I click on P&R forum I scroll and it's almost hard to find certain threads because they don't really pop. It's so similar that I'm having trouble finding certain threads I wana post in that may not be in unread. It hurts me eyes

yeah maybe darker and larger so they stick out to the eye more. I don't even remember how the old threads looked but maybe it's the red being lighter or maybe I'm fucjing color blind. Was the color scheme before? I can't do dark mode on my phone as it's worse than light mode and makes me eyes cross

I can agree with SS here.  For some reason the topics seem smaller than they font when I get into the thread. Especially on mobile.

Post by: animal on Mar 02, 2026, 06:59 PM
I agree with the agreeance to the tiny font in the title/subject heading within a thread...but it doesn't bother me because I can clearly see it and distinguish between multiple shades of black (dark mode) so I can see when one post ends and another begins.
Title: Re: Woopig.org -- Fixes and updates!
Post by: SwahiliSteve on Mar 02, 2026, 07:02 PM
It would also help as you said the font be enlarged on post titles in the thread and on the forum so that they pop out more

It's all good, no worries. Probably something on my end.

I'm in agreement that the TOPIC TITLES ON BOARD/UNREAD INDEX could be more readable, but I think this is more of a font/color decision than a pure size issue.  For the TOPIC TITLES WITHIN POSTS DISPLAY, do we really need a big, shouty reminder of the topic title on every post?  It's the same repeating title to scroll through 20 times per page, for a topic you've already chosen to click in to.

it's fine within a post scrolling it's more when viewing a forum. The "new" icon pops but the other posts all sorta run together when you scroll otherwise looking for topics/titles in a forum.

I was just trying to be funny.  I don't have any problems reading or finding anything on the forum.  Thanks for all the work on it...I know it's a pain and time consuming.

Let me reiterate when just looking at the main forum not on update or what's new, it's a total cluster trying to topics as they are all small font and red but not bold. They don't stick out like before: it makes me cross eyed tr Bro look for a topic that may be older and not new or updated

No worries, I read your tone accurately.  I'll mock up some other font/color options for the post indexes, and maybe for the posts themselves, and we'll see what looks best.

What if we tried a bit clearer font on the indexes, and make it gray?  Like this:

And more of a writing-style font for the post content, like this:

meh I dunno that doesn't look much better but how do I know till we try. The red is just really hard to see when scroll to tell what topic is what when I'm not just looking at update/new posts. I don't know if gray is the answer lol. But appreciate the effort

This is what I'm seeing and I think what's fixing me up is the date being spaced out as if it's a fucking new topic. This is what it looks like via safari iphone. How come the date and author of the post is doing this it's fucking up the look and how I see posts IMG_1881.png my

OK!  I did a bunch of readability fixes.  The main ones you will notice are the posts indexes and post text font (here, for example).  I know not everyone will love the fonts instantly, but give them a chance.  If they're not right, I can change those to anything in an instant.

Anyways thank you for always improving I'll read it and use the board regardless apologies for the bitching

Yes!  Everything is always gawd-awful!

The font typefaces are a one-line change.  I'm mostly interested in making everything readable across our rat's nest of platforms, browsers, and devices.

The philosophy for the topics index is that it's a table of data, so a more data-looking (code-ish) font works better there.  But I get that the current one isn't popular.

For posts (like here), the philosophy is that it's text you're going to read, sometimes a dozen paragraphs if it's @animal .  So post content should appear in more of a cozy, long-form bookish typeface (like this one).

I'll see if there's a middle ground for the topics index font, and try that next.

# WPF v2026.03.04 Release Notes

**Release Date:** 2026-03-04

---

Typography Overhaul

**Unified three-font system** replacing the inconsistent mix of Roboto, Noto Sans, and system defaults:

| **IBM Plex Sans** | All UI: navigation, menus, buttons, indexes, metadata |
| **Bitter** | Post body content (slab serif — writerly tone with personality) |

All fonts loaded via Google Fonts CDN for universal device compatibility.

---

Board & Index Readability

- **IBM Plex Sans** applied to board index, message index, unread, and unread replies pages
- **Topic title font size** bumped by `+0.2em` across all index pages
- **Alternating row stripes** added for better visual scanning
- **Dark mode titles** softened to `#AAAAAA` for eye comfort
- **Vertical padding** added to board index topic rows for consistent spacing
- **Hover lift animation disabled** on board index cards — cleaner feel for dense listings
- **Homepage board list** now matches the same styling as topic indexes

---

Mobile Fix

- Fixed "by [username]" wrapping to its own line on the message index mobile view
- Hidden the `<br>` tag in the `last_post_topic` language string on mobile
- Added spacing after the timestamp link to maintain visual gap

---

Quote Block Improvements

- **Auto-collapse**: Long quotes are clamped to a ~4-line preview with a fade gradient
- **Show more / show less**: Click anywhere on a collapsed quote to expand; click again to collapse
- **Short quote detection**: Quotes that fit within the preview height show no toggle
- **Media embeds blocked in quotes**: YouTube, Twitter/X, TikTok, Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram URLs inside quote blocks are no longer repeat auto-embedded — they remain as plain text links, reducing quote bloat

So collapsed quotes is a pretty standard modern message board feature that we've never had before.  It's meant to be a convenience.  Presumably, if you're reading along in a thread, you've already read what's being quoted and just need a line or two to remind you what it is.  This reduces the amount of scrolling and the length of the page that has to be loaded.

It *should* be working on all devices now, with a cache clear.

But I should've asked.  If the majority of us don't want collapsed quotes, I'm happy to roll it back and we can just scroll through them as before.

Hard reset the browser page makes the quote work right on the computer.  That's CMD+OPTION+R on Mac.  No idea about on a  lesser PC.

This works for desktops, but on iPhone (and maybe other mobile devices) you may have to go to Settings App > Apps > [Your Browser, e.g. Safari] > Clear History and Website Data.  If we want to keep collapsed quotes, that is.  I know it's a pain in the ass, but this particular script gets stored aggressively in long-term cache.

No. All the websites will be cleared, but when you go back to a website that requires a login, your login information will still be there. You'll just have to resubmit it to log back in. At least that's the way it worked on my phone when I did the hard reset.

Wasnt there at notification icon in the 2.0 that let you know if someone replied to a comment you posted? I don't see it on here but used it on occasion. Might be missing it. But I love the updates and dark mode is super tits. I didn't use that before. I also like the collapsed replies" show more" feature"  thanks for all the tweaks.

My only issue with the new quote collapse feature is sometimes I don't wnat to quote an entire post.  Sometimes I want to quote only a specific sentience or two in what someone posted.  It apperas that when you quote someone now you can't edit their quote when making the post.  Not a big deal but something I noticed.

Edit: I guess that isn't entirely true.  It looks like you can modify but you can't expand the quote box when making the post.   It is a little wonky in the mechanics.

**Release Notes (WPF 2026.03.06)**

*Animation Polish*: Toned down the over-dramatic click animation on the lower board UNREAD button.

*Board Index Readability*: Increased contrast slightly for alternating topic rows to improve readability in both light and dark modes.

*Button Capitalization Consistency*: Corrected numerous button text capitalization inconsistencies across the site (e.g., "Mark All Read").

*UI Cleanup*: Removed the unnecessary topic icon legend box from the Board and Unread index pages to de-clutter the interface.

*Quote Collapse UX*: Rebuilt the quote block collapse feature using an explicit "MORE" / "LESS" toggle button, allowing users to select and copy text within a quote.

No need to clear cache, a hard refresh should work.  Let me know if anything looks or behaves wrong.

Everything looks great and I appreciate all the work. It would be perfect if moderator buttons were slid over to the right side. If not no big deal. I like the unread bar.

I take it you're not left-handed.

When you asked for this before, I didn't quite understand but now I see it.  Let's see how fast I can do it.

Much appreciated, though you may be unaware admins can log in as anyone.  But it wouldn't help, because I think the problem is with your browser's session cookie from Wednesday.

Try visiting that topic again, and look in the address bar.  If it starts with www.woopig.org/..., take out the www. and press Enter.  The correct address should be https://woopig.org/index.php?topic=994.0.

I've been looking back over the last couple weeks thinking about how long I've been an admin and what is it I actually do here. I truly don't know I think it was probably 2009 or shortly after Steve had to move it to .net because of the failed takeover by FatPat. Back then the board had a front page that had to be uploaded with new material. Every Sunday morning I'd wake up real early and post whatever news clips there were from the Saturday before. *This was before we had a guy like Trent making a colorful post on the mainboard on Sunday morning. That was kind of a role I took on because it didn't look like anyone was really doing it. The front page kind of helped steer a bit of traffic to the board and it got people talking about whatever the topic was...mostly pissing on Wally. Unknowingly I think I stepped on Shoat's toes because that front end I believe was his brain child. Muzzy and I would chat back and forth and he'd sometimes tell me "just don't fuck anything up". Ok scouts honor. Upon the entry of our big group of admins it was basically over for guys like Shoat, Jim, and a few others. Some went to Rex's board.

I recall one of Steve's biggest issues when he brought on a lot of new admins he didn't want us hanging out in the admin forum. He didn't want the board to continue as a absolute skull fuck on every single fucking thread. Although on the same token there were times where it was just too irresistible and thus we had a good pile on like fatpunter, Joetheismansankle, or Zeke. Anyway not to beat a dead horse...but I was fucking there. I know what got said and I know what his wishes were at the time. I think I'm the only one here that was there in the admin forum I mean. The rules were fairly simple. No racism. Wear Your Cup. Don't win arguments using your admin shit. The reason for that last one is because that shit was fucking happening on the reg back in the skull fuck days. That was probably Steve's biggest pet peeve. As admins we knew where to pick our battles and when to apply the necessary moderation. I guess the deal with MDEM being "power hungry" or whatever idk...his cheese started to slide around that time. Needless to say any of the hallmark woopig (this isn't woopig) stuff that's being brought up is straight up Steve motherfuckin Jackson's rules and that guy and Muzzy pretty much taught me how to be an admin. I've gained a lot of respect for him and lost of a lot of respect over the years but that's just how the cookie crumbles.

I most especially wanted to remind everyone that this board is the brain child of Elvis but it's most certainly not his board anymore so the new owner can do with it how he pleases and from what I can tell he wants to continue to manage it the way Elvis did it. I believe there are 3 of us now unless you count the server guy that never posts. Now days we are all older, wiser, gentle souls and about a 1/4 of the traffic and probably less. But we have a good core group and thanks to OneQuarter this place is running like greased owl shit. Better than it's ever performed or looked. We like to use terms like autopilot but the truth is this puzzle of a board needed a lot of modernization under the hood and was no small feat. We all own him a drank. <insert missing beer icon here>

This one's a bit hard to explain, but the result will be pretty clear.  I upgraded the database encoding from legacy 3-byte `utf8mb3` to full 4-byte `utf8mb4` to support modern iOS and Android emojis natively.

I like the new layout.  All works fine on my iMac where it just comes up in a Safari browser window with forward/back arrows, a search field, and my favorite bookmarks.
BUT on my iPad (about half the time) and on my iPhone (all the time) the "woopig.org" completely takes over the browser window.  The arrows and standard browser window functions are all gone. This makes navigation a bit of a pain.
Also, the "NEW" designation on a post does not go away as it once did after a post is read and the page later returned to.

This is a Facebook tracker problem.  I see the warning: "This will allow "facebook.com" to track your activity."  The new embedder is blocking their tracking attempts, which causes Facebook to abort the video after a couple seconds.  I'm not in love with this kind of thing.

I'll see if there's a workaround.

The embedder now uses Facebook's preferred sdk.  However, many if not most ad-blocking browser extensions and DNS blockers will prohibit Facebook's invasive cross-platform tracking.  If this happens on your device, you should now see a card explaining the situation and advising you to click through to watch on Facebook.  If you want to see the video here, you can whitelist connect.facebook.net and www.facebook.com from your blocker or disable the extension.

I've also updated YouTube and Reddit embedding and tracking to current best-practices to balance performance and privacy.  Instagram and Tiktok embedding is unchanged.

Let me know if you notice any wrong behavior, or if you'd very much like to see another platform added to the media embedder.

Sort by latest post is the default behavior.  At some point, you likely clicked or tapped some other column header, thereby selecting a different sorting.  Just click or tap on "Last Post" in the index to sort by latest post again.  You may have to tap it twice for reverse chronological sorting.  You don't have to do this every time, it will stay sorted however you last chose to sort.
