Edit: I guess they say that Kansas is the higher 4 seed so the East is the closest regional to Kansas. Lawrence is 1091 miles to Washington DC and 1565 miles to Portland. Fuck the rules.

Without getting overly into it I'd suspect there is a math problem to be worked out in order to do what you are advocating.
There are 68 spots, 31 automatic bids leaving 37 at-large bids. Selection Sunday had 5 auto bids yesterday punch their ticket and issued 3 of them for Thursday games. The seeding is what is going to really matter here. If we were say the #1 overall #4 seed maybe they would have given us a Friday game. IDK how that works but probably works something like that.
Barring common sense and understanding that there are four #4 seeds and I'm going to hazard 2 of them play on Thursday and 2 of them on Friday. I get it...Kansas lost on the 13th and will be fresh as a daisy come Friday. Would it have been a big deal to ship them assholes to Portland and us to San Diego? Probably not. Does anyone give a fuck up there? No
The main issue is the tv deals and our conference. We should be ending our tournament on a Friday. That would do two things. A. Make the SECT more competitive incentivizing competitive play by having a longer rest for the final teams competing. B. Gives the Selection committee ample opportunity to figure out how to fuck Arkansas. Hell by Sunday the committee might not even agree Arkansas is a state.

Once you get to the sites, the NCAA dictates practice times. But before you get there, you can do what you want. That is why the extra day was a big deal. That is why Bama, losing early, playing on Friday, gets more practice time.
Luckily Hawaii looks to be a fairly easy team to prepare for. They don't do too much that is complex or anything like that and their defense of never switching and always going under screens and meeting the ball handler on the other side will kill them if Acuff and Thomas are on their games. Acuff might get a dozen layups.

it's not a hard flight. Little Rock to Dallas or Houston and then to Portland. It's not easy to fly anywhere out of LR though I'm struggling with coprophagia, but this isn't hard

We waited about 10 minutes and then I went and knocked on the door. I heard giggling and then the door opened quickly. He was standing in front of us all 7'4" wearing only a pair of Virginia sweatpants and said "what do you want ?" My little white self held up my program and said "Can we get an autograph?" He grabbed my pen and scratched his signature. Stick peeped around him and saw two buck nekkid women. The door shut, we didn't die, and we got a story of a lifetime. Any time I saw him play from then on I got to tell my buddies " Lemme tell you a story about a whoremonger..."

UConn doesn't get enough credit for what has been built there going all the way back to the late 90's. Jim and Geno built a monster that not a lot of people really talk about in reverence to.

It's also hard for me to look at Florida as one of those programs given that they would trade all three of their titles for one more in football if given the choice.
UConn has been to 7 final fours and won it all 6 times. That is incredible.
