Just by playing all the home games in Fayetteville in 2022, Arkansas jumped in the FBS attendance rankings.
Arkansas attendance averaged 73,155 in 2022, vs 65,284 in 2021.
A jump of 12.06%.

I haven't looked in a while, what's going on with the golf course?
Is it a park? An overgrown field? Cordoned off post-apocalyptic wasteland?

If the goal is to move up in attendance rankings, should we keep the game in Jerry World?
Our attendance went up because we played in a stadium that allowed more people to... attend?
Quote from: Usafhawg on Mar 22, 2023, 08:05 AMIf the goal is to move up in attendance rankings, should we keep the game in Jerry World?
Since the schedule is changing in 2024, and our contract for JerryWorld is set to expire that same year, I wonder if that will mean we can get out of the deal a year early. I would hope so, although that is aTm's year to be the home team. Maybe the league will keep the game on the schedule as one of our rotating opponents to fulfill Jerry's contract.l.
And what prize do we win by increasing our attendance numbers? And don't say money. The football program has plenty of money.
Is wms gonna host more concerts or just be a venue for HS games

Mayor wanted to do low income housing. With a no bid kickback to supporters to develop it of course.

Not surprising at all, at least once his Top Golf plan for the SW corner fell through.
I'd like to see the numbers on maintenance expenses now versus the last year it was a golf course. Every time I've driven by it's still been mowed and kept nicely, although greens maintenance (even shitty ones like WM) is pretty expensive compared to general mowing. I still imagine that the difference in maintenance expense is less than the amount of revenue lost from green fees, cart rentals, etc.
It looks like shit.
I don't really care much one way or the other about playing in WMS, but I also am not sure increasing our average attendance figures is a reason to take a game away from there.
They should just tear wms down. It's a waste and make it into a park or expand the zoo or put in a top golf there
It serves a purpose for municipal purposes, games with UCA/ASU, HS games, etc.
It's just past time to quit playing Ark games there.
That being said for a very, very long time attendance would dictate playing the games in LR instead of on campus. It was a big deal when we finally had more seats in Fayetteville than LR after the big expansion.

but how much is upkeep for a few HS games a year? Is it worth it to the city? I'd think not. Surely it needs major repairs at this point

Not much, really. Just stop wasting money adding new stuff like press boxes, seating, etc. Just leave it alone and patch it until you can't. Plenty of urban stadiums like this that are similar.
Unless something has changed recently the city doesn't own the stadium. It belongs to the state department of parks and rec, or whatever the related entity is called these days.
The city owns the rest of the park.

I mean he's not entirely wrong, but 30 years later in the GSD, the NWA contingent that thinks Crossett is Northern Louisiana has grown even stronger, thanks to the Texas transplants. F'Town keeping it funky for those fleeing the shit show of Austin. Meanwhile they're bringing all that P&R talk with them after they've fucked Austin all up.

The old Fayettvillian regime never needed anyone's help to fuck things up. They've been pros at that for decades.
We had 30,000 more fans in Fayetteville yesterday than we had in WMS last week.
The opening game experience was embarrassing in Little Rock, not surprisingly
The AD should see this and anticipate future problems, and stop this stupidity. It should have ended in the early 2000s.

Yeah I have a feeling the big showdown with the Howlin' Redwolves will be the last game ever at WMS. But you never know. Kevin Crass is now on the BOT and he was (and maybe still is) the head of the WMS commission, or whatever it is. Kevin is a great guy, by the way.
Assuming Arkansas does pull out for good at WMS...I figure UALR will push for a football program within the next decade and WMS will be their home. That's if there is money for it...what would it cost to get the ball rolling? 25 million off the top of my head and I may be way off.
I think playing ASU as the final game would be a fitting end though. If you are going to play a shitty opponent maybe at least play a home state team that people will show up for just to see them bleed. It might accidentally be a good game I'm sure Butch Jones will have them dialed in by then. If we lose that game it will go down as the beginning of the end of the Pittman era. By then the way things look we will be coming off two more ho hum years and people will have forgotten had bad it feld to be 0 for 15 in the SEC.
Beyond high school games what revenue does this place even take in to keep it up? Why aren't they trying to pump it out more for concerts

Because there are about 4 weekends where the weather would allow it. It's either too hot or raining when it's cool enough. And it's a dump, no artist would want to play in it.

I tried a quick google search and didn't find much for recent salaries, but the lowest paid SunBelt coach in 2019 was paid $360K. There's no way they are going to find anyone to be a FBS college head coach for $150K.

That was definitely considered-- in the last couple of years if I recall correctly.
Unless a significant group of LR area big wigs-- I mean with real money-- gets behind it, I don't see it ever happening.

Congrats on using Google. I don't think they would be sunbelt level. Find a coach for $360. I really could not care less, but it seems to me that it isn't so much of a money thing as it is a lack of effort thing.
