On one hand I agree with you, but the past 13 years of Arkansas football has made me really enjoy this time of year before the season starts.
Formula one. Although they have one more race and then it's a three week break for their "summer break" because it's too hot in Europe to race in August.

Doldrums season, indeed. This is when I start lighting money on fire betting on football season win totals.

Regardless of the heat index, I'll take summer over winter every time; but, in terms of sports (or lack thereof), I consider July and August an annual Schrodinger's Razorback experiment.
We all know that on September 5 our cardinal "cat" will be unwell, it will be moribund at the very least by September 12, and it will be hammer dead when the box is finally opened on September 19. However, until then we can console ourselves with there's still a chance.
Returning to the subject of summer, my only complaint is that I sweat more than any other human on earth and have done so since I was a kid. It gets tiresome having strangers approaching and asking, "are you alright?"
Preseason starts in three weeks.
This is normally "talking season" for football, but we're in a weird spot right now where there's nothing to talk about.
"We're probably going to suck, let's see what happens" is a pretty short discussion.

Espn's analysis of the hogs says basically we don't know squat because of the new staff and near complete team overhaul..
I know we're not going to be great, but other than that I don't have a fucking clue. We could be anywhere from absolutely terrible (again) to refreshingly mediocre.
