In all honesty if we were going to just allow incompetence to run the AD then we might as well have kept Bert and took our 6 or 7 wins and a Texas Bowl each season with the odd 4 win blub every now and then.

Petrino would have torched these dudes by 60 today and we wouldnt know jack shit about our defense but then again we still really don't.

I was demanding apologies for BMFP by 4-10-2012.

That's when the shit that happened today started.  We are just living through the consequences.   Murder victims never come back to life, or haven't since about 2000 years ago.

I was on a remote job site with no cell service in the office.  PM had to go to McDonald's every day to use the wi-fi and send our reports, and he came back like "Bobby Petrino crashed a motorcycle."  I thought it was an April Fools' gag.  And then on the day of the firing I get a call from Matheson that it was coming about an hour before the announcement dropped.

God offered us an oasis in our desert of despair, and we walked away from it because we couldn't forgive a personal mistake.

When it was true, I thought, I hope he is ok.

Then when they said there was a passenger, I thought his wife was with him, and hope she is ok.

When they said it wasn't his wife, I said, "Fuck." Knew we were screwed.

I read it here first when the Arkansas State Trooper posted about it. When he first posted he was being vague and "I know something you don't know about your hero," type shit. Then I point blank asked him if what he was saying was BMFP had a wreck, then he started spilling the beans, then disappeared from the thread. He was almost giddy about it. These are the types that were excited to run him off, and the ones that would still line up today to crown Nutt as AD.

Except he wouldnt be lining up, because not long after that he took his own life.

I wish we had the old board's archive of it. Somebody posted that Petrino's kid left the bac in a pissy huff. I knew it was all over. It's been over since then. He needed an off season to get some defensive coaches and players in place.

I don't know how anyone can have such hatred for Pittman and can accurately recognize how shitty of a team he assembled and then also equally blame a coach who takes that shitty team over 5 games into the season.

BP wasn't given an honest chance to show he could bring the program back from the depths of the hellish hole that Long/Smiles/Billema/Morris/HY/Pittman helped dig.

To suggest he was given every opportunity to earn the coaching role is just ignorant.

Here is what I do know.  When BP took over in 2008, the program got better every single season.  When he took over 5 games into the season last year, the team got better every game.

Blame Long and HY all you want.  Arkansas fans are a major reason the football program sucks.

I know in 2009 the refs had to bail out Florida and LSU against us. In 2010 they did the same for Auburn. If Joe Adams doesn't drop 17 touchdown passes in the Sugar Bowl we might be talking about being 1-1 in BCS bowl appearances.

I'm willing to look past how his last run at Louisville ended and pretend he would have made us respectable again.

I think he probably would've went 7-5 or 8-4 with that 2012 team, probably had a bounce back 2013 and gone 9-3 or 10-2 again, maybe done really well in 2014 as well and then the recruiting and lack of quality defense would've caught up.

By 2016 or 2017 he most likely would've wore out his welcome. That's just my take on that alternate timeline.

In 2012 he beats ULM and Rutgers for sure. I don't see him beating Alabama or A&M. He definitely finds a way to beat Ole Miss in Little Rock. But I think we still lose at South Carolina and maybe in Starkville as well. Not sure if we beat LSU. Probably.

This seems like a reasonable expectation.

If he had indeed shit the bed and been fired after 2017, the odds are we wouldn't have been hiring the likes of Chad Morris to replace him.   That's what the "Bobby would have crashed and burned" people miss.  A program he had coached for ten years would have had a much higher profile than one bottomed out by incompetence like we saw.

Absolutely. We avoid the abyss that Razorback football became and pretty much has been. The crazy thing is we have made the stadium nice as shit despite being mostly terrible since 2012.

It's more than coaching.  Bobby is not the man for the modern business of college ball.  He's at best an OC without administration or recruiting duties.  Silverfield might not be the right guy, but Bobby wasn't either.

Unfortunately Lane Kiffin is the new model; we might not like it but in the land without laws, the ones exploiting that succeed, at least until real law returns. Dabo wont do it out of ethics, Bobby is too lazy to do it, most of the other old guys don't know how to do it.

It's hard to speculate anything because of the reality of Bobby's actions. Had he wrecked with a private sector mistress then it's between him and his wife ala Donna Bragg.  But the stupidity of dipping into company ink, jobs, etc mandated something from the administration.

So we don't know what long and Bobby would have negotiated, or the punishment. It would not have been nothing, it's just the level of something.

How would that have affected Bobby? Would he be a bit contrite, and tone down the arrogance that led to his stupidity?  Folks like a redemption story and he could have built one here instead of Louisville.  Or he could have been resentful and looked for an out.  We don't know.  It's a fucking shame we missed on his most productive years.

The shame is Long inflicted on us basically a self imposed death penalty like smu endured after theirs.  Smu retreated for decades while we're fighting for relevance as a sec football school.

I wish silverfield the best and hope he's the catalyst JFB was for the program (we don't have a Wilson Matthews). More realistically can he be the catalyst for change that Lanny van eman was after fuckwit Duddy Waller, leading to Eddie Sutton and Nolan. I see nothing coaching wise that says Bert or Chad, but he's gotta have money.

Yeah, I don't think any of us thought Bobby should have gotten off with no punishment.  Long seemed to let personal feelings and/or personality differences (Bobby was a dick to a lot of people here his first time) lead him to rush straight to the most severe punishment when something else would have worked without killing the program.

It was the most Arkansas thing we could have done. We rehired Bobby, as OC, all knowing we have Pitts' successor and only coach that's had us relevant in the past 20 years, on campus. Only to show him the door again for a coach that has had a modicum of success, doubling his salary, unlocking golden handcuffs from his previous school. We're just going to suck until there's all new leadership up there.

Unless silverfield absolutely tanks, he's here three years.  We're just passengers.  I quit being passionate about the program during Nutt, and am just auditing the class.  I have nary a time invested in it.

It's a shame because I was raised on JFB football and everything that went with it.  Younger folks don't know the level of statewide rabid support it had, how the state stopped to listen to Bud Campbell do radio play by play and watching film with JFB Sunday afternoon. It was a special time and I hate that it's gone.

The defense did look well coached.  They still lack talent but didn't combine it with abysmal fundamentals and an awful scheme.

Turnovers killed us.   We moved the ball great.  Scored enough to where we probably could have won 7-8 games if the defense had  been even unusually shitty instead of historically bad.

In my opnion Bobby Petrino is the best coach we put on the field since joining the SEC. Let's pretend for a moment. What if it was Nick Saban that had a wreck on a motorcycle riding around with a young staffer, one that he was throwing the sausage to, and on his payroll? Would he have been fired at Alabama? Think about it? Hell no! A black helicopter would have been on scene within a few minutes, him and his mistress would have been flown from the scene. Then like the movie "Men in Black" there would have been folks in black suits telling folks to watch here, you may see a flash.

Turnovers did kill us.  But Bobby owns those turnovers.  They were a part of his offense.

No doubt.  Level of detail wasn't what it used to be.   I suspect a lot of that was not being able to be as hard on them with Pittman nominally in charge.  But the plays he called worked.

I guess I will never understand this thinking. The OC own the play call. The player owns the execution. The play wasn't designed to turn the ball over.

We've blamed SP for TOs the last several years. We hired a coach that preaches winning the TO margin. Biddy has said on several occasions that he has never seen a coach practice ball security more than RS. Yet we turn it over 3 times against an awful FCS school. These player's know to take care of the ball. They are the one's accountable.

We had the #5 offense in the SEC last season.

I mean, I don't actually know that, but it sounds accurate enough.

Many of the turnovers last year were interceptions-- when our really athletic qb couldn't throw it to the right spot.

But BP didn't tell him to throw it to the wrong spot. Isn't that on the QB? Make the right read. Make a good throw. Those are the 2 things a QB is asked to do. That is literally his job.

And it's the coach's job to teach him how to make the read and the proper mechanics of the throws.

Look sure, a lot of it is on the players.  But teach them better and play players who are less likely to fumble.

I'm happy for Bobby that he's rid of this loser program and it's base of loser mentality fans. For fucks sake X is full of people clamoring for Nutt to return as AD, and others who think BP got a fair shot after Pittman was fired mid season and the team quit on him. Then there's even another contingent still talking about the glory years of Frank fucking Broyles.

I think bobby is still a good coach but he lost me going all in exclusivity with Taylor green despite the multiple mistakes and missed opportunities at key moments in games with the same mistakes time and time again,  Lamar Jackson he was not but yes, who is?

His best success came with passers like mallet and Wilson and not dual threat guys which made it so puzzling why he rode so hard with green. He was really high on drake lindsey but that ship had sailed before he returned thanks to sam.

I went to the Mississippi st and Memphis games last year, and I can confidently say that BP is still one of the best offensive minds in football.

There was at least 1 wide receiver running WIDE OPEN on EVERY pass play, but many times either Green threw to the other side of the field into double or triple coverage or the OL was getting blown up and he was running for his life.

Last season was lost in the offseason with the awful strength and conditioning coach. That's not something any interim coach can fix during the middle of the season.

Had BP gotten the head coaching job over RS, this year would have been much better. We have dumbasses at the very top running the athletic department.

I was somewhat hopeful Bobby would go ahead and take KJ Jackson as the starter after it was clear the Hogs weren't doing shit anyway. But that probably would have just done damage to the kid. Bobby might have landed that job if he had put a couple W's on the board but with that bunch it just wasn't happening. At this stage of his career I'd take him as OC in a heart beat...as a HC I kinda think the sun has set.

When Jimbo comes in a few years maybe we can get a Space Cowboys type of dream team of coaches to come with him.

Every athletic fan base has crazy fans that are longing for something they had in the past, etc.  Everyone here sees this place as the worst because we follow it so closely.  I have a good friend who played baseball at Auburn and he says some in their fan base are saying similar things that we hear from Arkansas fans.  I'm not saying it's not bad here, I'm saying every fan base has people like you mentioned above.

All of these apologies to Bobby posts after a shitty first game by Silverfield.  We looked like crap, no doubt, but I guess no one remembers Bobby's first 2 games as Arkansas HC.

Game 1:  Down 10 points at home to Western Illinois (same division as UNA) with 10 minutes in the 4th quarter.  Had to score with just over 1 minute to win the game.

Game 2:  Down 13 points at home to La-Monroe with 11 minutes in the 4th quarter.  Same as above, had to score with just over a 1 minutes to win.

No reasonable person felt the UNA game was ever in doubt. Pissed beyond belief, but the game was never in doubt.  I remember both of the above BP games, and there was absolutely doubt well into the 4th quarter.

Silverfield has a lot to prove, but his first game as an Arkansas HC was not nearly as ugly as BP's first 2 games as HC.  Give the guy at least a chance to show it can get better, or that he's not the guy.

Difference is that team had a lot more SEC talent than this team does, especially on the offensive line and at the skill positions.
