Title: Hogs in MLB and MiLB
Post by: Usafhawg on Mar 27, 2023, 08:39 AM
Blaine Knight has been released by the Orioles. I'm surprised he lasted this long. He didn't show much at AA or AAA.

Blaine was a weird talent.  While playing for the Hogs he never looked like a dominate pitcher even though he dominated.  He just won.

I'm really hopeful for Kjerstad.  I have a good friend who is a huge Orioles fan, and she keeps me informed about him.  Apparently he made it at least most of the way through spring training with the big team-- not sure, he may be there still.  Hitting really well.

I'm an O's season ticket holder (13 game plan). I'm 99% sure he is still with the big club. I know he traveled with them a couple of days ago. The word around here is that he'll start the season at Bowie (AA). That is good for me since that is only like 20 minutes from my house.

He is in the Brewers Organization. There was a pic of him and Turner (White Sox) on Twitter the other day. I'm assuming it was a back field game and they aren't with the big team. Moore did tear it up playing in Australia over the winter.

Quote from: joebobhog on Mar 27, 2023, 10:14 AMCasey Martin? Dom Fletcher?

Martin is in the Phillies organization. He has not been tearing it up. With 770 at bats the last 2 years he is hitting .189.

Dom is still in the Arizona organization. He did pretty good playing for Italy in the WBC. When they played Japan he was 2-3 against Ohtani and 1-1 with a HR against Darvish.

Reassigned to minor-league camp
March 22, 2023
Kjerstad was reassigned Wednesday to the minor-league side of Orioles camp, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kjerstad was never really in the running for an Opening Day roster spot in Baltimore after finishing out the 2022 campaign with High-A Aberdeen. However, he certainly made an impression during his time in major-league camp, slashing .390/.419/.829 with four home runs, four doubles and a triple across 43 plate appearances in Grapefruit League play. The 24-year-old outfielder is again drawing top-prospect attention after missing all of 2021 due to a heart condition.
Title: Re: Hogs in MLB and MiLB
Post by: Ray Zorback on Mar 27, 2023, 11:09 AM
Fletcher (from Rotowire)

Fletcher is a smaller guy like his older brother, the Angels' David Fletcher, but he packs a little more punch at the plate. The Diamondbacks prospect socked 12 home runs between the Double- and Triple-A levels in 2022, collecting nine stolen bases and an .864 OPS along the way. The left-handed hitting Fletcher did struggle versus southpaw hurlers with just a .681 OPS, so he might be more of a platoon bat when he reaches the majors. More likely, he's a fourth outfielder, and even after being added to the 40-man roster he faces an uphill battle for playing time in 2023.

So Martin has made 624 outs.  Have 620 of them been curve ball strikeouts?

Optioned to Double-A
March 10, 2023
Campbell was optioned to Double-A Arkansas (Mariners) on Friday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Campbell recorded a 1.57 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 46 innings between High-A and Double-A ball last season. He possesses elite strikeout stuff (10.9 career K/9) and could break into Triple-A before the end of the season.

The Orioles just called up Cowser. That is the last outfielder before it will be Kjerstad's turn (other than the folks that have been going up and down all season - McKenna, Stowers and Vavra). He might make it before the season ends.

I am by no means an O's fan but I love their roster and farm system full of young prospects. They will either be a Marlins type team that wins it all or trade some of them for Vets. Fun team to watch.

Elias seems to be a genius. Hicks has been pretty good since he was acquired. They picked up O'hearn for "cash considerations". He has been incredible and much needed with Mountcastle injured. I still think they're 2 years away, but they are definitely fun to watch.

Zay got his first big league K a bit ago in 1 inning of relief work w/ no hits allowed. Low-pressure, 10-1 win situation.

Campbell is back with the Mariners. So far in 7 IP he has 9 Ks & a 2.57ERA. They just traded their closer (Seawald) so he may get a save chance when Munoz needs a day off.

Good for him! That has to be cool for a Texas kid to get to play AA and AAA ball in Texas, and hopefully make it to Arlington one day.

good for him but it's his lack of hitting that has been the issue.

I'm currently hunting Kjerstad cards (recently got back into the hobby).  I think he will kill it, I'm just scared the O's won't have a place for him on the team when everyone is healthy.  They are loaded (and my 2nd fav team).

Santander has been having back issues. Hicks was a plug for Mullins being hurt. Cowser had issues the first time he was called up. McKenna is a stop gap for the baby birds to get ready. O'hearn (1b) is a LH hitter and has been a pleasant surprise, so Kjerstad probably won't take many/if any at bats away from him.

If Silent J plays like we think he will, there will definitely be a place for him in the OF/DH role.

I believe he will hit, and like they say from 12U until forever, "if you can hit, we'll find a spot for ya".  Really fun team to watch with all the young guys.

It's a real shame COViD happened. Had that season not been ended early he would have either hit 500 with a record home run number or set the record for walks.  He could have been the national player of the year and would have been considered one of the best hogs ever. Dude is awesome.

I know, but Kjerstad has always had a special place in my heart.  Played great for us, and then shoved that Texas first baseman out of the way which floored everyone.

Got drafted #2, but took a lower bonus for the Orioles. Still got a little over 5 mil, if I remember correctly.  Got covid, had the jab, and got myocarditis (in some order, not sure exactly what order).  Basically out for two years.

I really hope he makes it.
