Title: Lord Stanley and His Royal Cup
Post by: Thin Red Swine on Apr 17, 2023, 07:27 PM
No, not the Woopig variety.

It's NHL Playoff time!  For my money, the most exciting of the professional sports.

Can my Bruins beat the Presidents Trophy jinx?  This team has been so good.  It would be a shame if they don't win it all.

Bring it on!

One down.  Fifteen to go.

Playoff hockey is awesome! I've never really had a hockey team that I've followed consistently, but it's still fun to find a team in the playoffs that's entertaining to root for.

Come on boys!

Two great games going tonight.  Try it. I promise you will like it.

Back in the day I loved going to see the Johnstown Chiefs. Hockey is fun to watch in person. It doesn't work for me on TV. Also,it was at Chiefs game that I found out that rednecks are rednecks no matter which side of the Mason Dixon line you live on.

TV is still almost the same. So intense and the frantic pace creates surprise chances and instant goals. NOTHING like it.

Well that escalated quickly.  The Panthers brought it hard and took advantage of some nice breaks and awful turnovers.

Good wake-up call for the B's.   Good scrappiness to the end.

For those of you like me who don't know much about hockey, but you're open to watching it, tune in to Game 3 of Bruins and Panthers on Friday night.

There is one thing better than playoff hockey on TV.

LET'S GO BRUINS!!!

Bumping again.  EVERY series was 2-1 heading into today.  Both higher seeds in the East won on the road this afternoon to go up 3-1 but there is still plenty of great action.

The highlight today so far was the Bruins goalie getting a game misconduct penalty with 3 minutes left for squaring off with the Panthers' best player and main instigator.  Good stuff.

Should be two thrillers tonight in the West.

FYI I'm watching even though the Blues did not make the playoffs. That just means I have to figure out a team to root for.  Nothing has really hit me yet. In the past beyond the Blues, I have liked Vegas and Nashville.

What a game tonight in Tampa. Maple Leafs came back from 3 down in the third by scoring 4 unanswered to win 5-4 in OT.

Toronto hasn't won a playoff series since 2004.  The last time they had a 3-1 series lead, they lost to the Bruins in 7 games.  That was most painful because they LED by 3 in the third in that one.

What a game in Boston tonight.

I wish I didn't care who wins.

Decades of Razorback fandom prepared me for what happened tonight. Not that any Razorback team has ever been such an overwhelming favorite.

Everyone will say the Bruins choked.  But that's not what I saw. The Panthers played more out of their minds than any underdog I've ever seen.

They have a brilliant veteran coach who found a few things to exploit and more than anything had them fighting back no matter what happened.

It still fucking sucks.

Yep. I'm out of mourning now. The Panthers are my second favorite so I would like to see them finally lift the hardware. Carolina will be a big hurdle though.

about as close to a walkoff as you can get.

Cool that Koepka was there.

Fuck Koepka. He's fairweather like 99% of Panther fans. You could swing a dead cat and not hit 10 fans in the regular season.

I will root for them to take it all as my local team and as a cool hockey story for the sake of the players and Coach Maurice.

Go Vegas....hockey should not be played in Florida.

Now wait just a damn minute. There are a few true hockey fans down here and it's growing as a youth sport.

It's just mostly fair weather fans.

Well that was a confusing change of direction, considering your original rationale.

All I was saying was that if Florida isn't a hockey hotbed, Vegas sure ain't either.

110 degrees
desert

Should have been big clues.

You led with Go Vegas. You didn't say hockey shouldn't be played in Nevada.

It's a bizarre criteria to choose a team to be for, but if that's it, you picked the team/state that is far newer to the sport.

They have the same colors and mascot as Central Florida. It's all very confusing. Maybe I should switch.

Nope. Goal. I'm sticking.

You're right. I was. I thought that in my head but didn't think I actually posted it. I blame the heavy bronchitis medication I've been on. And last night I mixed it with a glass of wine with dinner.

Oddly enough, I've never really defended Florida for much of anything but for whatever reason that struck a nerve.

If the Panthers put as much effort in defending their own zone as they did in shenanigans, the games would be closer.
