Figure we hit the portal hard for a catcher. Sure wish we had Tamez back from Alabama.
Zero chance that we have
both Rowland and Polk back. Have to think at least one of those guys transfers.
Rowland was one of the worst hitters I've ever seen wear a Razorback uniform, but he was good defensively. Polk couldn't hit and was also a defensive liability.
Pretty amazing what we accomplished this year with two automatic outs in the lineup, both of whom either finished or spent most of the season below the Mendoza Line.
There is a 3rd catcher on the roster my son thinks should have gotten so,e time but must be redshirting (still a thing in the portal days?) but o f get his name

Tamez was a defensive liabiltiy. That's why he left. He was primarily DH at Bama this year.
Harold Coll going to the portal.
No surprise there. He was a solid backup but I'm sure he wants more PT.

The Arkansas baseball brand is expected to be well-represented at this year's Major League Baseball Draft Combine, which will be held June 19-24 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
In total, 136 players from the MLB Pipeline's Top 200 are slated to attend. Of those 136, four are Arkansas players and 12 are Razorback signees.https://arkansas.rivals.com/news/arkansas-baseball-has-four-players-nine-signees-invited-to-mlb-combine

Bolton was one of the most elite defensive shortstops we've ever had. That's always DVH's first priority for the position. He hit a little and got on base other ways. His OBP was higher than Stovall and Slavens among the regular lineup guys.

Compared to Battles, Bolton was below average defensively. That's setting the bar really high though.
Bolton made most of the plays he could get to. There's value in that, but his range was less than stellar.

well, Jayson Jones is still on the roster so what does the Sac State guy mean for him? Brooks tells me this is huge as he really follows college baseball.

I definitely didn't say he was better than Battles. I looked back a few years for BA, OBP assists and fielding percentage. Battles is clearly the best but Bolton's numbers on defense are reasonably comparable. He was comfortably better than Biggers and Bernal, and miles better than Casey Martin (lowest bar).
You're right there aren't numbers reported for range.

I wish D1 or some other entity would publish some defensive stats similar to the ones prevalent in MLB. They are far from perfect as standalone numbers but can help paint the full picture.
Totally agree on Bolton's standing among the others listed, although I'd say he's probably similar to but a little above Biggers. If he could have performed offensively for the whole year the way he did the last couple of weeks of it we would be looking at him much more favorably.
Battles was pretty clutch too.

Jayson Jones won't be a SS moving forward. Corner infielder or corner outfielder.

What we need is a sweet looking PHD in charge of our pitching lab like the one at Wake Forest.
SS from Sacramento State came from Maui, probably a difficult guy to evaluate in HS as there's very limited competition and virtually no scouting. He likely didn't face much decent pitching unless he played summers on the mainland.
The fact he came in and raked and made freshman AA the kid likely has tremendous upside.

So far we have lost four signees:

OF Kendall George (36 - Los Dojers)
SS Nazzan Zanetello (50 - Boston)
SS Walker Martin (52 - Giants)
Those guys will all sign...all were expected to be lost to the draft with the possible exception of George. We did have two pitchers who were highly rated withdraw from draft consideration...Adam Hachman and Gabe Gaeckle.

I didn't realize Gaeckle had withdrawn as well. We need some luck today but I think several of the pitcher signees will end up on campus. It sucks that Hachman will miss next season but that's the only reason he withdrew.

I don't remember where I read it but it was a Razorback draft preview. DVH said it would be hard to get some position players on campus but thought we wouldn't have much issue getting P's on campus. All 4 of those above are position players. Was a little surprised Wiggins went that high.

He's dropped quite a bit. Is ranked 65 overall according to MLB. Maybe he floated a big # to sign, I don't know. I'd be fine with getting him back next year.
5 current players, 6 signees, and 1 portal transfer drafted so far.
Forgive my ignorance. I don't follow college baseball recruiting. If those recruits who got drafted sign with MLB does DVH have some fallback recruits lined up to take their place, or have the all the "fallback" recruits who are worth a shit already committed to other college teams?

I saw earlier on another site that, if no more of our signees get drafted and sign with MLB, we will have the most Top 100 signees make it to campus since they started keeping track of baseball recruiting.
Yes. We started the day with 7 top 100 players not yet drafted. Signed 13 to LOI which was a record.
And we finished the day with 7 I believe. Gaeckle got drafted in the last round but sounds like he's unlikely to sign. Cali got drafted in the 16th but maybe we get lucky and he comes back.
We will have no shortage of arm talent and depth next year.

Heard this last year. Pitching will be a concern, especially with Tygart having an elbow history and Wood having arm issues. Carter will be out most if not all of the season and Frank has a rough injury to come back from.
