Didn't find that this thread had been started for the year unless you count the Shockwave thread when Bryant's coach moved to Conway.
Tuesday, August 15th, the defending 7A champ Bryant hosts the defending 6A champ Pulaski Academy at 6pm in a AAA benefit scrimmage game.
New head coach and some new coaching staff for Bryant vs PA trying to replace a ton of players including QB who is not playing football this year due to a more promising baseball career.
Not being streamed.
Also, my understanding of the private school promotion is that if PA just makes the playoffs this year (they haven't missed the playoffs in 25+ years), they will be bumped up to 7A next season. So, this may be a conference game next season.

I had heard back in the spring that Busby had TJ surgery at the urging of Matt Hobbs, and that he wouldn't be available for football his senior year.
7A would be a tough row to hoe for PA, but then again I said the same thing for 6A with Greenwood, the greatest program of the modern era (El Dorado), etc.

First 7th grade football game last night. Pushed back 2 hours to 7:30 due to the heat.
They played 2 15 minute halves. Roster of 65 kids and only about 30 got to play.
And Bentonville charged $5 per person to get in to the stadium... That's some bullshit when you take the whole family to the game and your kid doesn't even get to play the 30 minutes they were out there.
Going to be a hot one tonight for the opening Friday of HS football. Hydrate.
Should be a scantily clad matchup of PA alleged Pineapple loving milfs vs the Robinson Ho's. 😀 (I grew up in Oak Grove with a healthy hatred of the Joe T Robinson Senators)
Kickoff is backed up to 8 pm due to the heat. With the PA passing game, this one may go to midnight if the mercy rule doesn't kick in.

Yes, that's right.
The lights on the visitor side went completely out and the refs just sent the teams to the locker room for halftime. They will come out and finish the 2nd quarter then go straight into the 3rd.
PA and Robinson finally finish the FIRST HALF at 10:13 pm.

Yes they've really improved everything. Newish middle school, new high school, new football/track field, and a very nice new basketball arena that's just being completed. Also very fortunate to have a good young coaching staff.

They have always pissed excellence in academics since I rolled through there...so that wasn't a concern of mine. The sports facilities were pretty sub-par so it is good to see them upping their game there.
Honestly, in NWA any school from 4A up has greatly improved facilities over the last 10 years. Most are artificial turf and new fields. All the 3A, 2A are about the same as they were 25 yrs ago.

I've always felt bad for kids at big schools. There is only so much playing time to go around. Imagine trying to be one of the 11 kids to get on the court in a school on 2500.
A QB to watch out for: Springdale Central Jr high 8th grader. No idea who he is, but he throws like a polished high school player. Accurate tight spiral, kids of Arn strength. During the 7th grade scrimmage I was watching him instead of the 7th graders.

2A semifinals next week:
Carlisle at EPC
Marked Tree at Bigelow
Note: I would argue that Elkins has its biggest game in school history next week. 12-0 with a chance to go to the semifinals and face likely Harding Academy for a trip to the 4A state finals.
Quote from: Hogfan58 on Oct 28, 2023, 11:46 AMMaybe I'm out of the loop and don't understand how today's HS football works, but how do you recruit HS football players? Do you get them to move to your town or to the part of town that ensures they go to a certain HS? Is that legal?
It's legal as long as they live in the district, but everyone has that Aunt who lives in the "other" district. Sometimes it as simple as that. Enrolling under a fictitious address.
Sometimes its a private vs public debate. For instance when my brother worked for PCSSD, he was the dude who was over the Mills HS project, as well as the baseball/football fields at Robinson. His idea was to "pluck" as many from PA/MSM/Catholic as he could by improving facilities. Every student (back then) was worth 7k in state funding. So the more kids he could pluck from the privates, the more his facilities budget increased for the public schools.
If you build it, they will come, sort of idea.

LR/NLR/Pulaski County allows "minority to majority" transfer. In other words a black athlete can transfer from the LR or NLR school district to Pulaski County without penalty. It's how Darren McFadden who grew up near LR Central ended up playing at Oak Grove in NW Pulaski county. It is how Robinson has put together pretty good athletic classes in the past few years. They also have "magnet schools" for arts and sciences that any student can transfer to. It is how Parkview ended up with such great basketball teams back in the day. I think Parkview is no longer a magnet school although they have a great FB team this year ranked overall #1 in some "polls" despite playing in 5A.

Offense can almost pick their score and the starting defense has only been scored on twice (Gravette, Ozark).
On a side note, grandson's season ended last Friday night against Clinton. Surgery on his knee Wednesday, hoping only minor MCL repair.

Hope he fully recovers. The next team seems to have some offense but their defense is suspect so while it might test the elk D, the offense should put up some big numbers.

If you can defend the pass, Elkins will be fine. Clinton beat CAC in a running vs. passing shoot out. Elkins dominated Clinton.
ELkins barely squeaked past CACH 53-15 and will move on to play Harding Academy in one Semi-Final.
Currently Elkins is ranked #2 in 4A and Harding #1 so it should be a good Matchup and the winner will be favored in the finals.
Kinda sucks that the two best teams were on the same side but oh well. Likely both teams will score points and it will come down to which team can stop the other. Elkins has been a scoring juggernaut all year, but certainly haven't played as strong a schedule as Harding.
Southlake has made it to the final #8 again and will likely get a rematch against Byron Nelson.

All of this is correct. Mills was supposed to be a magnet as well and it never really took off like PV did. People in my family camped out overnight to get them into Parkview when it switched to magnet status.
Central always had an inherent benefit of being the largest by enrollment, offering some courses that would allow intradistrict transfer, etc and getting some of the best parts of town for athletes and wealthy areas and offering better academics. They once benefitted from this, I don't see why they couldn't again.

HA looked like they had been there before (5xs) and Elkins was shaky to begin the game. Dropped two, maybe three passes that would have been TDs, overthrew a wide open receiver in the end zone. Fumbled driving for the tie in the third quarter. Then HA managed the clock for the fourth quarter. HA's QB is fast and elusive. Their main RB is a stud but heard broke a collar bone in the second quarter. HA middle linebacker is a UofA commit.
I think in ten games those two teams split 5/5. Very competitive game.

Wasn't much of a game. Not sure what the fuck happened in the first game, but Southlake throttled them 56-7 in the rematch. Wasn't much of a game at all. We shall see if Southlake can close the deal this year instead of getting stuck in the top 2 or top 4 again.

It's the Competitive Equity Factor that was voted in place for private schools rather than just the multiplier.
Over a two year look back, five points is considered dominant. If a team accrues enough points and is considered dominant, they would move up one classification.
The points awarded for competitive equity are as follows:
1 point: A winning conference record
2 points: A state playoff or state tournament win
3 points: A state championship game appearance
4 points: A state champion
A team can earn a maximum of four points in a season.

The interesting part has been what it's done to basketball. Boys and girls teams have ended up in different classifications.
I am not a PA guy but I am friends with the QBs family.
They were beat down physically as the season progressed. Losing people left and right. By the time they made the semis this year they were thin.
PA is a pretty good team healthy and one-deep. After that age and size/physicality become an issue.
They will be no match for the 7A due to size, depth, and physicality.
QB1 is going to have a tough go at it next year. Hate it for him.

A great example of this is how the annual scrimmage vs. Bryant usually goes. PA hangs with them in the first half while both teams are playing the starters. After halftime when the depth kicks in Bryant usually pulls away. They're going to face situations like that in probably half or more of their games over the next two years.

No, PA has discussed leaving the AAA and just being an independent high school that plays a regional/national schedule similar to IMG and a few others around the country. If they did that, they would recruit the best Arkansas high school players without restriction. (I know some would say they already do that <insert eye roll here>).
The impact on the other sports would be ugly. Football, probably not so much as they already play a bunch of those type schools every year in their non-conference. They would just play an entire schedule of those schools from all over.

If they're going to go independent they need to go all in...basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc. That means recruiting heavily for all those sports.
