I booked a room at the new Arlington Loews for that tournament. It was about half the price of the other Loews. Just hoping it opens on time.
If I'm in town I'm going this year. I didn't go the year we whipped ass and still regret it. Now that I have attended a few Ranger's games, feel more confident in the whole process.
How big of a crowd usually shows up for the fall scrimmage like they're having tomorrow? Is it something I need to get to early for hog pen spots or laid back and show up at game time?
It won't be crowded. You'll be fine getting a seat.

This sucks. I was hoping for Texas along with one of the Mississippi schools.
I wanted Texas and LSU.
That would've been great too. I selfishly wanted UT so I could go to games here. I'm sick of playing Missouri in any/every sport, even when it's an easy W.
we get ole miss and fucking missouri. out of texass, lsu, state, and even a&m, we get more of a made up rivalry with a school that doesn't give two shits about baseball.
The SEC sucks. They keep forcing Arkansas/Missouri and LSU/A&M.
pitiful. the best baseball program in the SEC and that's the best they can do?
I don't know which thread to post in.

I'm sure it isn't fair to lay the blame at the AD's feet, but I'll always blame Jeff Long for the taking away of the LSU rivalry. Fair or not I'll believe that candy ass did nothing. He should have pitched bloody hell the second the SEC proposed splitting Arkansas and LSU on football. Now it HY turn to preserve it for baseball and here we are.
That yankee fuck didn't even have the decency to try to make a basketball series with Syracuse
Anyone care to predict our starting lineup? I struggle to keep up with which current players that get drafted and sign, which newcomers make it to campus etc.
Since Slavens started playing under DeBriyn, I assume he is out of eligibility?
Yes, Slavens is finally gone. The starting rotation will almost certainly be Smith, Tygart, and Molina(T Tech transfer). According to the fall ball wrap up from D1 Baseball, they think true freshman Gabe Gaeckle will probably be a midweek starter. McEntire is back and it sounds like we'll try to use him as a jack of all trades bullpen guy on the weekend.
Best guess at the lineup:
Rowland / Helfrick(FR) / White(TT transfer) - C
Wagner - 1B(Tarleton transfer)
Stovall - 2B
Holt - 3B
Aloy - SS(Sac St transfer)
Diggs - RF
Edmundson - LF(Mizzou transfer)
Wilmsmeyer - CF(Mizzou transfer)
Jones / McLaughlin - DH
To me the most intriguing spot is catcher. I thought for sure that Helfrick or White would be the new catcher but Rowland was raking in fall ball. Think he hit around 5 HRs. I expect Helfrick to pass the others at some point and be a multi year starter.
Football schedule: "THE SEC SCREWS US EVERY YEAR! WE GET THE HARDEST SCHEDULE IN THE SEC! WHEN DO WE PLAY VANDY OR KENTUCKY?!!!
Basketball schedule: "The SEC screwed us, because we play Kentucky twice and Bama twice and at Tennessee!!"
2025 Baseball schedule: "The SEC screwed us, they gave us Missouri as a permanent opponent!"
The SEC does us a favor (for once ) in giving us an automatic series win and people really want annual with LSU, which would be fun, but in the nature of winning the league, would not be in our best interest.

Appreciate the run down. Between Wegner, Bohrofen, Cali and Slavens, it looks like we lost a lot of power from the middle of the lineup. I'm sure that's just the nature of college baseball now with transfers. Hopefully the new guys can pick it up.
Rotation looks really solid as long as they can stay healthy.

I think the TTU kid should get the nod at catcher, but it wouldn't surprise me if DVH rolls with Rowland given his defensive ability. He also seems to be
really high on Helfrick.
I prefer offense from that position, or at least more than we got last year. I've seen enough of Rowland whiffing on 3 straight breaking balls and/or going down weakly in a big 2 out situation to kill a rally to want to give someone else the nod there regardless of their defensive ability.
Turner wasn't exactly Yadi Molina behind the plate in 2022 but he could take.
Rowland hit a blistering .182 last year. Agree on him chasing bad pitches and killing rallies.

I really don't know much about our hitting, but I think our pitching will be better*

DVH seems very optimistic. Frank being back is going to be huge.
Met a farm owner up here in Jonesboro whose kid is a freshman pitcher (out with Tommy John). Apparently, and I know this is hard to believe, the team is optimistic about this season too.

Hyneman I'm assuming? Big kid. At least he got TJ surgery out of the way.
My oldest son's travel ball team played against a team out of Kennet, MO a couple years ago. We've signed a couple kids out of there. Apparently quite the pipeline. Kennett has some surprisingly good baseball talent.

Just for a little perspective on the surprising loss today...
Several other good teams lost a game this weekend. Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, NC State, and Texas. Vandy needed a 3-run bottom of the 9th to not lose TWO to FAU.
LSU beat UCA only 2-0 yesterday. TCU had a tough time with Florida Gulf Coast, with a slow pitch softball-like 34-25 combined score over three games.

I figured as much. I just assumed a digital ticket will be required and didn't want to deal with the hassle at the gate. Strangely enough, they sold out of "premium seats" even though they kept adding new sections to that area. Will be interesting to see how many people actually show up.

I'm a little concerned about McEntire lately. In his last 4 appearances, he's pitched 6 innings, given up 12 hits and 8 earned runs. In that span his ERA went from 1.75 to 3.21. Is he getting tired, teams figuring him out or does he have an injury we haven't heard about?

Bring on Texas. They'll have a tough first game and IF they win, will get Hagan in game 2. Off to the losers bracket for game 3 and will face us again in their 4th game and would have to beat us twice at Baum.
I'll take our chances.
Someone has to end the shorthorns season and make their fans cry themselves to sleep. Might as well be us.

Nate Thompson ftw. As always.
Thompson can't keep his job with numbers like that.
A team ranked in the top 5 all season and has won more than 20 SEC games in 4 of the last 5 seasons isn't firing any of their coaches.
I thought WooPig hated the pitching coach because he walked around tearing UCLs?
Tournament pitching rotation guesses?
Tygart will get a start after sitting out last weekend, Smith will get one to stay sharp but will have a pitch count, after that, it's wide open. Wood and Molina will probably if we keep winning.

I like this projection and being matched up with Stillwater.
We're gonna need to get lucky to make it to Omaha and I would consider that draw getting lucky.
Edit: nm, that one has us matched up with Santa Barbara, not Stillwater. Don't know much about the West Coast teams, but the draw doesn't scare me.

Any draw against any team scares me. My expectations are VERY low, so I'm not going to be disappointed if we crash and and burn. Conversely, if we do what we our seeding suggests, then I'm going to be very very happy.
I'll be extremely disappointed if we don't get to Omaha. Despite group think, we are a very good team.

Santa Barbara just hung 20 on a team in their conference tournament.
I don't remember who it was and they probably aren't very good. But I don't know if we could score that many in batting practice.

I definitely don't disagree with you on that. When I say that I like the draw, I don't mean that I think it will be easy for us. Mostly just glad that we're not matched up with another SEC team that is hot like SC or LSU.

Agreed.
Imagine the same scenario for the basketball tournament in wherein the NCAA announces the #1 and #2 seeds one day and the rest of the field another.
It'd be one thing if there was no connection between schools and hosting sites (as is the case in basketball), but just announcing one round of teams is sort of dumb.
It's different. Sometimes different is ok.

Every time I see something like this I wish the broadcasts would start putting up a strike zone box like they do on MLB games. Not every strike is "right down the middle." Most of the pitches Diggs took for strikes in early counts were marginal...strikes, but usually on one of the corners. For that matter most of the ones he took for strike three were as well. Had he swung at those on the first pitch and tapped weakly to first base we would have been on his ass for being impatient.
Y'all act like pitchers are throwing 85 mph flat fastballs right down the heart and Diggs is taking them. That is not the case at all.
