Couldn't find the golf thread, could have been on the old site.
Jon Rahm will be signing with LIV Golf for 300m and ownership stake of a team.
So at least now we know the price in exchange for his "fealty."
I thought the PGA and LIV were going to merge but obviously that's not the case or else LIV would not throw that kind of money at Rahm. Also, how much is a team ownership in LIV actually worth?

If he is getting that in addition to $300MM how much does it have to be?

The merger is far from a done deal and they have set a December 31 deadline for it.
This is Rahm grabbing money before it gets too diluted if the PGA Tour actually does jump in the sand bed.
If you believe the incessant LIVbot noise on X, the team valuations will soon rival that of F1. Never mind they stopped reporting viewership this past year because it was so dreadful. There still is no true TV deal and no sponsorships so it's just more Saudi Monopoly money being thrown around.

Isn't their TV deal with The CW? I watch a few rounds this past season on there, but mostly I just watched the highlights on YouTube that night.
What's it matter? He plays golf for money right? He just got paid more than he is apt to make in his entire career to play less and live more leisurely. Sounds like success to me.
Yeah, we know you have no principles.

Why is it wrong to get paid to play golf? Are you some sort of communist?

Key word, TRUE.
They bought the air time and have still gotten pre-empted in some markets in favor of Golden Girls reruns.

Gotcha. People love their Bea Arthur.

Hopefully the Saudis make him play in the Gaza Open about the time the IDF chooses to finish off Hamas

Maybe you guys should refuse to use any fuel made by Saudi oil if you are so offended by them.

Yeah, but have you heard Bea Arthur's Butthole?
I used to like watching golf when the players were identifiable and colorful. Such as Fuzzy Zoeller, Craig Stadler, Ray Floyd, Tom Kite and so on. Just like Nascar. Earnhardt, Wallace, Elliott, Waltrip and so on and so forth.
All of the PGA pros look alike these days. It's like an AI simulation or something. Unless it's a major I'm flipping channels.
what makes it interesting is that Rahm was one of the big guns who voiced a distate of LIV saying he had no interest, dissed the format and that it shouldn't be about money.
You know LIV is gonna go after Rory next.
Rory's already got fuck you money.
Oh shit, Eldrick withdrew. I'm surprised they are even going to continue covering the Genesis on television.

Sounded more like his breakfast withdrew. And then he pulled out of the tournament.
It will be MUCH more enjoyable to watch now.
Big Willy Z is back in a big way! Pretty cool to see a Simmons Bank logo on the PGA Tour.
Gonna be a great finish at Riviera.
Hideki on absolute fire.
Willy going to have to birdie out .
Yeah, Hideki decided to go into turbo mode. Three straight birdies three different times in the round. Unconscious.
Interesting to see Scheffler marching toward another victory. As someone on tv just said, he does it in such a boring way. Drive to a good spot, second shot to green, and make a putt.
There isn't much, if any, drama to his game. Just great golf.
If he is putting well, he is damned near unbeatable.

Best tee to green guy in golf.
Agree. If he's making putts, it's over.
Scottie has only made about 16 million dollars on the course over the last 40 days or so. Not bad work if you can get it.
Nobody here is old enough to have actually watched Hogan but it seems to me that on the course at least, Scheffler is the closest thing to Hogan since Hogan. Heroics generally aren't needed, just amazing consistency. I would also add that his weakness, like Hogan's, is putting. Hogan would have won dozens more tournaments and a least half a dozen more majors if he was an even average putter.
I saw another couple of people on X complaining that he was boring to watch. Doesn't hit spectacular shots, etc. Well, probably 90% of the "spectacular" shots you see are because the preceding shot got the player in trouble. Think Phil's shot on 13 from the pine straw at the Masters, or the unbelievable hook Bubba Watson hit at the Masters, etc. Even Tiger's shot on 16 at the Masters was only possible because he "missed" on the wrong side of the hole.
Scheffler almost never gets in real trouble.

Scottie reminds me most of Tiger, who played fairways and greens with the best of them. He did have a few spectacular recoveries but almost never needed them.
Tiger's a much better putter, at least to this point in their careers.
