As crazy as it sounds, without that grand slam he would have finished with 6 rbis which would have been good for second place on the night. Another player had 7. That team they were playing must have really sucked.

Who did the Orioles get that knows about player selection and development? They sucked a longggg time without the high drafts picks helping them all that much. They were my backup team as a kid when the Cards sucked through the 80's because of Brooks.

Elias. The guy that built the Astros
Kid has 24 RBIs in 7 games. For reference, Aloy leads the Hogs with 30 in 28 games. Incredible start.
Definitely a good start
Cheddar Kjerstad: Going 1-for-4 with a three-run shot and a bases-loaded walk tonight was Heston Kjerstad...he's recorded at least three RBI in four straight games, the first player to do so in Orioles affiliate franchise history...he has 25 RBI through seven games so far, and had 32 RBI in 76 Triple-A games last season.

Assuming a 140 game MiLB schedule, he's on pace for a 500 RBI season. Seems pretty decent.

I grew up a Cal Ripken Jr fan. It's cool to see them doing well again. This Orioles team is a really fun team to watch. Lots of young talent. Hopefully the new owners will keep their top guys together.
Silent J's AAA stats this year:
.349 10HR 30RBI 25R in only 86 at bats
Buddy of mine and I had a thought exercise the other day.
If you could take any Razorback player from the last 5 years and insert him into this roster, who would you take?
My three were Kjerstad, Cayden Wallace, and Kopps.
You get two great bats, an outfielder (move Holt to CF and sit Wilmsmeyer permanently), a high caliber 3B, and a pitcher who can start and do long relief or high leverage relief.
Silent J's oppo power sure would play well in Wrigley.
Kjerstad got called up to the Orioles today. Not sure how long he will stick though. Apparently their left fielder got hurt and is on the injured reserve, or whatever it is called. He should be back sometime.

If it's only one, I'd take Brett Eibner. As awesome as Kopps was, this particular team needs another high quality right-handed hitter. And he could pitch if needed.

I would imagine the advanced analytics today heavily favors the opposing MLB team over the rookie. I'm guessing the Angels knew how they were going to pitch to Kjerstad 24 hours before he stepped to the plate. It would be really cool to hear the Orioles hitting coaches talking with Kjerstad and Holliday about the weaknesses that other teams are seeing and how to to improve their thought process.

The Orioles don't seem willing to give Kjerstad, the second pick in the 2020 draft, an extended look in the majors, which is odd given how little production they're getting from their outfield corners. He's among the Triple-A leaders in homers and over 30 percent of the balls he's hit in play at the level have been at 100 mph or greater. He's ready to help someone, even if his defense turns out to be below average.
Kjerstad had been called up again. Hopefully they give him a chance this time.

The main problem is playing for the worst team in baseball. Their entire offense is dreadful. It has to be demoralizing for anyone.
That image above is somewhat old. He crept back over the Mendoza Line last night. He's been bouncing around that for the last month or so.

Went to Miami today on a whim after seeing that Benintendi and the White Sox were in town.
We got to watch him...walk out of the dugout for the anthem and could see the top of his head most of the time chatting with one of the other pineriders.

Can't find the MLB thread so I'll put this here since it tangentially involves the Razorbacks. Otanhi just hit an RBI single off former Hog Ryan Stanek in the bottom of the 6th to put the Dodgers up 7-3 in Game 6. Unless my ears are deceiving me, I heard the announcers say that Otanhi is now 18-22 with runners in scoring position in his last 22 at-bats. That is incredible if true.
Why, if you are Fox, do you even bid on MLB?
Playoff series are sent to FS1, which many people cannot get, instead of on main Fox which runs Masked singer and the Sunday night animation.

Sabathia will get in due to the Yankee boost. He probably deserves it, although not on the first ballot.
Billy Wagner fell five votes short last time. I bet he makes it on his final try this year.

Got to see Kjerstad and Josenberger today. Heston is doing a rehab stint in AA. 20260510_125636.jpg74821c53-accb-43f1-9b44-4c009220b3cd.jpg
Kjerstad is back on the 60 day IL. I believe his career is over.
I think it's just a procedural move to clear a spot on 40 man roster. He can still return late May if ready.

The O's are desperate for outfielders. No way they would do that. If he could play, they should have him up tonight.

He's not ready, he needs some reps at AA.
Hamstring problem since spring training? That is a long time.

Especially since he played Saturday and Sunday and ran full speed without issue.
In other news, Wehiwa is trying to get promoted.

His 2020 season was going to be historic.
Then he got covid and it has been a struggle for him health wise since
Heston Kjerstad, selected 2nd overall by the Orioles in 2020, had his early career significantly delayed after contracting COVID-19 shortly after the draft, which led to a diagnosis of myocarditis (heart muscle inflammation).
He missed the entire 2021 season for treatment, eventually debuting in June 2022 after further delays from a hamstring injury.
Key Details on Kjerstad's Medical & Missed Time:
2020: Drafted; contracted COVID-19, leading to myocarditis.
2021: Shut down and missed all season due to recurring heart inflammation.
2022: Delayed start due to a hamstring strain before finally making his professional debut on June 10.Recovery: He returned to action in 2022, eventually playing in the Arizona Fall League.
As of early 2026, he is actively battling for a spot on the Baltimore Orioles roster, having shown strong performance despite continued injury, such as a 2026 hamstring issue.

Good for him. He deserves all the success.
Not sure what happened but evidently Heston is playing.

Kopps update. He was released from the Padres organization due to control issues and too many walks. Looks like he just signed with a Mexican league team. Hope he can get back to the minors, but it doesn't look good for him. Sucks for being so dominant that one year for us. Kid was in the biggest situations for us and finished with a sub 1 era. Unreal

Taking the ole Kenny Powers route.

Seeing Kopps in cornrows, engaged in cock fighting, and yelling "you're fucking out!" is not the journey I envisioned for him.

He is rehabbing in the minors. The Os put him on 60 day IL to free up a spot on 40 man roster. They knew he needed reps before he could help them.

Hate that he wound up with the Lesser Sox

Sadly for me, they're not the lesser this year. They're threatening to be over .500 at the break for the first time in five years.
But yeah it's a good place for careers to die.
