Your previously #1 (now #2) Arkansas Razorbacks take on the Texass Tech Red Raiders for a 2 game mid week series starting tomorrow at 7:00 on ESPN2 or The Deuce to some. Second game is Wednesday at 4:00 on the SECN. Our Hogs faltered this past weekend after a long winning streak and dropped 2 to the Gumps. Let's see how we respond as this will be a pretty good test. As usual, GO HOGS!
And now, your Bob Uecker quote for the game:
The highlight of my baseball career came in Philadelphia's Connie Mack Stadium when I saw a fan fall out of the upper deck. When he got up and walked away, the crowd booed.

No Diggs?
Someone will need to handle PBP tonight.
Full disclosure - I've done PBP for 2 (I think it's actually 3) of our 5 losses, so I may have bad juju.
Top 1st.
Batter 1 grounds out to Stovall.
Batter 2 strikes out looking  2 away
Batter 3 strikes out looking
0-0, mid 1st
Bottom 1st
Holt leads off for Hogs. Flies out to CF.
Stovall up. Flies out to the track in deep RF.
Sandlot up next. Grounds out to 2B who drops the transfer but recovers for the 4-3 putout.
0-0 to the 2nd.
Bybee - 17 pitches in 1st
TT dude - 7 pitches in 1st
Top 2nd.
Green up for TeeTeeYou. Hits a piss missile grounder that eats up Stovall for an error. Runner on 1st.
Woodcox up next. Flies out to CF. 1 away.
McGee up. Launches one into the bullpen in LF. 2-0 TTU
Pompey up next. Rockets a single into LCF.
Next batter singles to CF. Pompy advances to 2nd. Runners at 1st and 2nd, 1 out. Mound visit by Hobbs.
Maxcey up next. Singles to LF to score Pompey. 3-0 TTU. Runners at 1st and 2nd, still 1 out.
Kash singles to CF, Lopez scores from 2nd. 4-0 TTU. Runners at the corners, 1 out.
Pitching change for the Hogs. Christian Foutch in to pitch for Ben Bybee who's done throwing batting practice.
Harrelson up next. Of course the first pitch is in the dirt. Kash takes 2nd on defensive indifference. Already a 8 pitch AB and the count is only 2-2. Runs the count full. Walks on an 11 pitch AB. Bases loaded.
Bazzell up. Grounds to Sandlot who throws home for the force. Bases still loaded, 2 outs.
Green up, who got this party started earlier in the inning. Belts one to RF that Edmunson dives for but can't get. 2 runs score, 6-0 TTU. Runners at 2nd and 3rd.
Woodcox up. Strikes out swinging.
6-0 TTU

Getting lit the fuck up. Gonna need some bats today.
Our pitchers, including weekend starters, are beginning to look average.
Bybee - 1-1/3 6 hits 4 runs 38 pitches
Not the Bybee everyone expected but hopefully bounces back.
DVH needs to steal the TTech hitting coach
They score here and they may run rule us.
We may get run-ruled this inning

They definitely feasted on a schedule front-loaded schedule full of mid majors and the dregs of the SEC. Mizzou, Auburn, LSU, and Ole Miss are all terrible this year.
Bama isn't great but they made our pitching look pedestrian. The concerning thing is that their pitching staff made our hitters look like a 10U rec team. We didn't piss a drop from the 4th inning Friday onwards.
Oh no. We suck again

Same with this pitcher. They said if he could make it twice through the lineup, they would be happy. He may throw 8.

Oh. We're fukt.
We won't win another game this season.

Death, taxes, insurance, and Aloy chasing low and away for strike 3.

Yep. Game 1 of 5 in 6 days. Pen is going to have to get stretched regardless of the situation. Right now we only have 1 weekend starter who can go 6 innings.

Quote from: Cornhogio on Apr 16, 2024, 10:21 PMStrike zone is not consistent. Why on earth would we send Stovall in that situation?
Yeah I didn't quite understand that one. Stovall isn't a speedster, and a single into the gap with 2 outs probably scores him from first.
Edmunson scares the shit out of me on fly balls.
Here comes the freshman pitcher we'll make look like Nolan Ryan.
Sprague-Lott got on. C'mon, Aloy!
Time for a walk-off, boys!

Nice job kid! We needed a comeback game like this.
That game felt like a replay of the Stillwater Regional back in 2022.
Wow, where is all the doom and gloom? That's a damned good team we beat tonight, folks. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see them in a regional (hopefully in Fayetteville again).
The thing that impressed me last night was the "no give up" attitude. When a few of us (myself included) had given up after being down 7-0, the team kept fighting. It looks like Aloy has gone back to his early season form. Hopefully, he will snap out of it. I hope Wagner's wrist is OK. And, I don't think we will let any foul balls drop between any of us this season. I have seen several where three of our guys are going for it and two are called off and the catch made.
I wasn't upset when it was 7-0. I just chalked it up to being one of those days and get em next game. Happily surprised they battled back. TT ain't a bunch of scrubs.
We (which means my wife because I was at a HS baseball game until 11:20) changed the Hog bandana on our standard sized poodle to a simple baseball bandana. That's when our run started. I'll turn my man card in shortly and Murphie won't wear the first bandana again

Same here. I had just chalked it up to an off night against a pretty good team. I hope in our next games that we can at least run the pitch count up on the other team's starters. We haven't really done that lately. And we need to quit plunking so many hitters. Like I said earlier...when you are ranked high, everyone will play their best game against you.
Baseball is funny. Any given night a good high school team could beat a college team. Ninety nine percent of the fielding plays could be made by a travel ball team. So cold bats or even good contact right at the fielders makes for unusual games. So nothing to be upset about if they lost, but a good confidence builder and that is useful. Because baseball is one of those sports where a team is unbeatable one day and starts a ten game losing streak the next.
That kid that Foutch plunked early had 20 hbp's coming into the game (or maybe that was #20). Didn't seem like he was crowding the plate to me (maybe leaning in a little more), but how does a kid take that many hbp's otherwise?

really? I did not know that.
NCAA Rule 7-4-i
A strike is awarded if the batter is judged to intentionally make a movement to be hit by a pitch, regardless of where the pitch is located; or allows themselves to be intentionally hit by a pitch that is not thrown within the boundaries of the batter's box unless it was not possible to avoid being hit.
This is what I could find, from a little over a year ago. Strike is called if the batter attempts to intentionally get hit, or moves to intentionally get hit in an area outside the boundary of the batter's box.
It may have changed since last year.

Leaning in and/or intentionally trying to take an HBP needs to be an automatic out, not just a strike. Needs to the same as batter interference.
A strike doesn't counterbalance being granted first base.

I agree. Punishment should balance risk vs. reward
If they step into a pitch, it is a strike. But if they are in the batters box and a pitch comes at them, they don't have to move out to the way is what I have heard.

That's how the rule above was worded. If the pitch comes into the batter's box they don't have to move. If the ball is coming at a part of the hitter outside the box (like his arms when crowding the plate) it seems like it's still a strike.

Note that you don't have to attempt to avoid the pitch if you are in the batters box. Just noticed it was for softball, but it is still the same for baseball.

I don't understand how he even sees the field in midweek games anymore.
I'd rather use these games for Helfrick's development.
Quote from: BleedinRed on Apr 17, 2024, 05:56 PMYou have to make an attempt to get out of the way regardless of where the ball is thrown unless you can't get out of the way. The rule is pretty clear.
Usually the attempt to get out of the way is self preservation.
Top 9th.
Wouldcocks hit by a 3-1 pitch. Runner on 1st, 0 out. Tying run aboard.
PITCHING CHANGE: Hewlett in for Faherty.
Stripling lines out to Stovall, who lobs it to first for the double play. 2 outs.
McGee hits one to the Baum East parking lot. Thank God for the double play, Hogs lead 5-4. 2 outs.
Garet Boehm, pinch hitting for Washburn, strikes out swinging. and take your asses back to the middle of nowhere, because the Hogs win 5-4!
25 home wins in a row! GO HOGS!
Bullet dodged
How bout em?!
I believe his words were "f u b#%&$"
TT has to feel snakebit.
Per Phil, TT players were chirping at Hewlett after the HR.

He who laughs last, laughs best.
Looked like he called someone a fuckboy.
Crazy that the series basically hinged on 2 double plays, one which was turned and the other that wasn't.
Game 1 - TTU's pitcher fucking up a dribbler in the 9th that he could have flipped to 2nd for the first out but slipped and threw it low. Instead of none on and 2 out or 1 on and 1 out, it was 2 on and no outs. Next batter was a HBP and that was basically it because all we needed was a sac fly.
Game 2 - TTU's 2nd batter of the 9th inning hits a line drive right into Stovall's glove who doubles up the runner at 1st. Next batter hits one into the bullpen, which would've tied the game if that DP doesn't happen.
That's baseball, Suzyn
The thing that continues to amaze me is how good the scouting and analytics are across college baseball. Just game after game of hitters hitting the ball right at people all the time. I can't un-see it.
And does TT have any right-handed pitching? Seemed like every guy they brought in was a lefty. I know that's not true, but boy it sure seemed like it.

They seem to come out of the woodwork when the weather gets warmer. They strategically sit behind the first base dugout in the sight line of the cameras behind lefty hitters.
