If weather permits (and I don't see that happening unless it is Saturday) your Arkansas Razorbacks take on the Florida Gayturds for a three game series starting Friday at 7:00. If the game happens, it will be shown on the SECN. Next game is Saturday at 12:00 on ESPN2. And finally, if weather permits, Sunday at 12:30 on SECN+. Game times may change because of weather. I really don't see Friday's game taking place and we may be able to get a double header in Saturday. Sunday's game may also be a wash. As usual, GO HOGS!
And, our Bob Uecker quote for the game:

I suspect they will get tomorrow night's game in, but probably not starting by 7pm. Rain is supposed to move out as the evening goes on.
My guess is that they play tomorrow and then play two Saturday. Sunday looks like a steady, all day rain, and they'll be up against curfew at 3PM (or whatever time it is) due to it being a travel day.
They need to plan for a double header Saturday starting as early as they can, like 10:00, maybe between rain delays they can finish by midnight.
From what I've seen the worst of the storms will be after midnight Saturday, should have a long break between rain during the day on Saturday.

That ought to wipe that smirk off his face.
We're still up one going to the 6th.
That's pretty much my best shot at pbp.
Our lineup makes a habit out of fucking around in Hagen's starts.
The best pitcher in the country can't get any run support worth a shit from his offense.
I will pick it up in the bottom of the sixth. Wife has the grands busy. Hogs lead 1-0 mid 6.
Wilmsmeyer leads off. Runs the count full. HBP. 1 on.
Stovall takes ball one. Wilmsmeyer steals second. 1-2 count. Goes down swinging. 1 away.
J SLott fouls down the first base line. The catcher and first baseman run into each other and the ball is dropped. Runner at second, 1-1 count. Grounds out to short. Runner moves to third, 2 away.
Aloy lines one just foul down the left field line. Grounds out weakly to second.
We strand a runner at third. Hogs lead 1-0 after 6.
Top of the seventh.
Shelton leads off. Walks.
Next up bunts. The throw to first hits the runner but runner interference is called. Out at first. Under review by Florida. Runner ruled out at first. The runner at first moved to third, but has to return to first. 1 away.
Heyman doubles to the left field corner. Runners at second and third, 1 out.
Kurland bounces toward third. J SLott grabs it barehanded and throws home and the tag is made by White for the out. Great play by SLott! 2 away. Runners at the corners.
Guy takes a strike. The runner at first is in a rundown, but then the throw goes to third and gets away from JSlott. Run scores. Guy goes down swinging.
Game tied mid 7, 1-1. That was one screwed up inning.
Wow. What a play.
Wow we just zeroed out a great play
Wow. What a fuck up.
The defense giveth, and the defense taketh away.
Not sure I understand why you'd throw behind the lead runner in that situation.
Bottom of the seventh.
McLaughlin leads off. Runs the count full. Walks.
Pitching change....Freshman RHP.
Holt goes down on a check swing. 1 away.
Souza takes a ball in the dirt. McLaughlin takes second. Goes down looking. 2 away.
Diggs swings at strike three at his shoulders.

Not sure I understand pinch hitting Souza for Helfrick.
Souza's low key tailed off, and Helfrick hits the shit out of the ball.
Top of the eighth. Gaeckle in to pitch.
Donay leads off. Full count. Walks.
Robertson shows bunt. Fouls off 2. Fouls another for the strike out. 1 away.
Evans goes down swinging, 2 away.
Caglianone singles to left center. Runners at the corners, 2 outs.
Shelton takes ball one. Cags takes second. Shelton is intentionally walked. Bases loaded.
Shelnut flies out to second.
Gayturds leave the bases loaded. Game tied 1-1 mid 8.
Both teams with Eleventy strikeouts.
UA Great pitching over UF Good hitting

Hats for bats bitches. Let scratch one this inning
Bottom of the eighth.
White leads off. Grounds out to second. 1 away.
Wilmsmeyer walks. 1 on.
Stovall singles to the gap in right center. Runners at the corners, 1 out.
J SLott with a sac fly to right. Wilmsmeyer scores. HOGS LEAD 2-1. Stovall stays at first. 2 away.
Aloy flies out to the track in right,
Hogs lead 2-1 after 8.
Can we do this easy?
Top of the ninth. Hogs up 2-1.
First up grounds out to short. 1 away.
Kurland goes down swinging. 2 away.

One thing about this team. We always seems to get that hit when we need it. Other than that, our offense is shit. Diggs has become our automatic out. Wilmsmeyer doesn't do much at the plate, but is great in the field. J SLott made an amazing play last night then followed it up by whiffing on a throw from first, allowing a run to score. What scares me, is that we are doing just enough to get our hopes waaay up. Our pitching is off the charts good. But our bats are nearly non existent.

Last night the announcers made what I hope was a prescient and predictive point. They said homers and runs are all fine and good, but games in Omaha tend to be low scoring and close (implying pitching dominates). So if we get there, we will be right in our element.
Pitching depth is a huge key to winning in Omaha.
Quote from: Barton Fink on Apr 27, 2024, 09:27 AMPitching depth is a huge key to winning in Omaha.

Quote from: Barton Fink on Apr 27, 2024, 09:56 AMYeah, my fear is our offense let's us down in one of the early games and puts us in a losers bracket. That is if we make it.
I said this in another thread, but I fully expect to face some random ass 4 seed like Grand Canyon in the regional and ultimately be in a 2-1 nail biter in the 7th and have to use Gaeckle because we can't give Hagen any run support worth a shit.
Given the number of games you play in Omaha, you got to make your ace's starts count, especially in game 1, in order to set your pitching up well the ensuing game(s). We just can't seem to do that when Hagen is on the bump, and he's not like we've been facing a lot of Friday night aces. Florida's guy last night was an inconsistent sophomore who's been shelled, LSU held their ace from game 1, and so did Ole Miss.
Either we are recruiting guys that can't hit or our hitting coach isn't very good.
We are very deep at pitcher. I don't follow as closely as some of y'all, but I'm still seeing us run relief pitchers out, and saying to myself "who's that?", then "damn, why haven't we used him more?".
Basically every game is a pitcher's duel. Our offense makes the opposing pitches look elite and comparable to our own.
And it's been the same story past several years.
What channel is the first game on?

Quote from: Barton Fink on Apr 27, 2024, 09:27 AMPitching depth is a huge key to winning in Omaha.
Last night's game was a pretty good example of what to expect in Omaha. Many of the teams will be like Florida loaded with double digit HR guys. The ballpark up there, much like Baum this weekend due to wind, neutralizes the long ball. Florida hit 2-3 balls that were homers in a normal park last night. Those are going to be loud outs in Omaha.
TL/DR: Our team is set up nearly perfectly for Omaha. The problem is getting there.

I'd rather see Helfrick than Rowland, but I don't think he and Tygart are on the same page when he's catching. They obviously weren't on the same page during Tygart's outing against Alabama, and then DVH opted for Rowland to catch Tygart against South Carolina.
Generally speaking, the bottom of that lineup (Diggs, Wagner, Rowland, Underwhelmsmeyer) gives me a ton of pause. That's a lot of strikeouts, and those 4 are hitting a combined .186 in SEC play.

They should let the pitcher keep throwing to keep warm during these other team's time outs.

Yeah, we're beyond the whole "let the veteran hit out of a slump" approach.
He's an automatic out and looks absolutely lost at the plate, and they've tried everything with him from resting him midweek and to moving him all over the batting order. Ironically, I think his glove is what's keeping him in the lineup.
I think our OF needs to be some combo of Souza, Edmunson, Holt and Lovich. Wilmsmeyer is nothing more than a late game situational defensive sub.

It really might be time to either re-evaluate our recruitment of players and their hitting or the hitting coach. Seems to be our main weakness every year and mostly what keeps us from winning it all.
