Title: Track and Field - change that championship sign (again)
Post by: AporkalypseNow on Mar 11, 2023, 07:22 PM
Women won solidly with Harter going out in style.  Men are up big but remainder will be decided tonight.

I've never watched it before but given my son is doing long jump, hurdles, and sprints with zero coaching we watched a lot of it today on ESPN plus.  Terrible production value, ABQ convention center doesn't look as good as Tyson, but it was an Arkansas party today.

ladies showed out.

collegiate records in the 60m hurdles, mile relay, and 4x400.  britton wilson ran the 2nd fastest indoor 400 in history, .23 seconds off the world record.

I watched Wilson, she was in 2nd the first half and absolutely jetted by and dusted the previous NCAA champ and record holder by a significant margin.  Nothing short of amazing.  All wish lashes, dangle earrings and extensions, nonetheless. It is still an NCAA record, and 2nd fastest time ever is something.

and the 4x400 would have been a world record but one of the girls is british.

Not sure f this is a replay of something earlier but a woman hog just flew down the hurdle course winning. She is crying. They focused on LSU and Kentucky runner before the race.

Oh, and our girl looked like a black Princess Leia.

Ackera Nugent dominating, she's a badass.

How does this work?

Are they still doing the event or is this a replay that I'm watching.

Also, they showed the team leaderboard and there was no Arkansas.  That seems weird.

Unfortunately the men got clipped at the end last night by the Goddam Leatherboots. They took the 4 x 400 relay to win by 4 points.

For the folks in the back, who or what are the leatherboots?

Didn't Texas Tech get DQ'd? Think I read that they were a favorite to win that event.

Chris Johnson is Lance's replacement.  Was announced when Lance put out his retirement timeline in 2021

thanks.

and Bucknam, who coaches the men, is doing probably good enough not to get fired, but not good enough to consistently keep us at the top I guess.

We won the NC in indoor and were 2nd in outdoor. SEC titles in both.

That isn't "good enough"?

men are sec outdoor champs.

jordan anthony won the 100 and 200 meters. broke his own school record in the 100, eased up at the finish or he would have broken spearmon's 200 record.

Maybe we should see if he can catch a pass.

which is why I don't blame him for concentrating on track

UGAG has a top tier sprinter, too, and he probably isn't actually going to play much football either.

he was on the football team for 3 seasons.

11 catches and 1 td. he's much better at track.

Got to have somebody who can throw it deep to take advantage of his speed (or at least a line that can hold up for 4ish seconds for him to cover 50 yards.). He didn't have that.
