Your Arkansas Razorbacks take on the collie fuckers of Texass A&M for a three game series starting tomorrow at 7:00 on ESPN2. Second game is Friday at 7:00 on SECN. And finally, Saturday at 2:00 on SECN. This is our last series of the year and we really need 2 of 3 at least. Let's hope our pitching (after Hagan) can throw strikes and get at least 5 innings. And, let's hope our bats wake up before the seventh inning. And FUCK eATMe! As usual, GO HOGS!
And, your Bob Uecker quote for the series:
Between me and my roommate, we've hit 400 Major League home runs.
Bob Uecker
(His roommate was Eddie Matthews who had like 430 HRs.)
Weather isn't looking promising for tomorrow night. Looks like College Station will be getting that much needed bath from Mother Nature right about the time Smith is scheduled to take the mound.
Likely a double header Friday followed by one on Sunday. Not the best news for our bullpen.
If the decision is made to start the game Thursday I'd probably start someone other than Smith. I wouldn't put it past Schlossnagle to push them to get started with rain coming to try to shorten Hagen's start. Give him game one of Friday's DH (or the only game if the rain doesn't happen) and keep him on normal rest.
That part off Texas is going to get rounds of rain over the next few days.
Some people spray their dog to get them to stop doing things like crapping in the house or chewing on the coach. Mother Nature brings out her hose to get aggies off their sheep.

I don't hate it.
Wood has looked decent lately and Molina and Tygart have been wildly inefficient at best and hot trash at worst.
DVH was legit pissed at all the free base runners and their inability to find the zone this past weekend.
I like that move. Fuck it, Johnny Wholestaff on Sunday!

Agree about Smith. It's flash flooding in Austin right now and the radar shows rain all the way through Houston. I believe the system that just passed over us is headed that way. I don't know how they fit that game in tonight without some delays. I wish they would just play 2 tomorrow.
The weather is weird in Houston today. It hasn't really rained much but looks like it should be pouring. It is starting to lighten up too.
They just showed a live shot of Blue Bell Park and there's a pond in the outfield.
Quote from: Pig Benis on May 16, 2024, 06:54 PMThey just showed a live shot of Blue Bell Park and there's a pond in the outfield.
Blue Bell should film a folksy commercial about the ol' fishin' hole in the outfield before it drains.
The sky fell out here in Houston about 30 minutes ago. It is now a hurricane. The weather typically goes west so I can't see playing tonight.
They're playing as of right now.
Radar shows that the rain will be gone well before first pitch. If they can just get all that water out of CF.
If it happens I can do play by play if no one else wants it.

agree. A&M is really good. I'm not surprised that their pitching shut us down. Their pitching is really solid. I'm very pleased that we have shut their hitting down.
We haven't burned any pitching except Smith for tomorrow or Friday. Gaeckle might be a Saturday guy, but everyone else is available tomorrow.
Don't like the pitching choice here.
Fitting
This game deserved a walk off walk and it got it.
Nope. What a way to lose. First walk of the night. Fuck. McEntire has been average the last few weeks.
Bloody hell.
Sucks to lose a game like that
That's how to Arkansas a game.
Outhit the fuckers.
I don't want to see Tygarr, Molina or McEntire again. They have not pitched to their potential for months now.
Shitty moves to intentionally walk bases loaded then bring in cold Willie Mac
That ending makes ME want to shoot a jukebox.
It may be the time to thank McEntire for his service and move on.
DVH will have 'em ready tomorrow. That sucked bad.
A walk off freakin walk in extra innings to lose 1-0. Speechless
Losing it with 1 single + 3 walks in 11th after 10-inning gem sucks
I hope DVH learns that this team needs to play small ball to manufacture a run or 2.
Too many wasted scoring chances

I would like to see more small ball, especially in a Smith-pitched game. That is, if we can stop popping up the bunts.
Should've squeezed with Stovall.

Yep. Wilmsmeyer was on base twice with no outs (which is solar eclipse rare) and we didn't try to steal or bunt him over.
All I ever hear about is his speed, but yet we don't use it in the rare event he reaches.
We're going to have to resort to small ball to make any sort of noise in the postseason because we're mediocre at the plate and we can't hit the long ball.
Case in point - A&M's top 3 home run hitters have 27, 24, and 18. Meanwhile our top three have 11 (Aloy), 9 (Stovall) and 7 (three guys).
Home runs aren't everything and can kill you if you're too reliant on them, but they matter in games like last night where the difference might be one hanging slider or poorly timed fastball that gets barreled up.
There's nothing more frustrating than extra inning long games like last night or Oklahoma State where all you have to do to win is score one freaking run at some point.
What is really frustrating is bringing in a pitcher and the one thing he can't do is the one thing he does do. All McEntire had to do was not hit or walk the batter.

He's normally one of our best strike throwers as well. The other team might hit them 400 feet, but he rarely walks batters. Just a weird game, and lots of pressure on the pitchers thanks to our inability to score.

He should have been let go a few years ago. Alas...
Pee-Wee League, Little League, Pony League, High School ball, coaches all said "make him be a hitter. Just let your defense do their job." If he gets a hit, then we lose, but that shit's just stupid. They need a sign for just throw a fucking strike, and let's see what happens.
I agree that we may want to move on from Thompson, but the players are as much (if not more) to blame.

I mean, we get different players every year and yet still the same result.
This team just needs to get hot when the NCAA tournament starts, and they are starting to show signs of life at the plate. Win enough to get a top 8 seed. Lose the first two games sec tourney to rest up for the one that counts, and we will be in a good position to win the whole thing.

Yes, and none were even close.
The more I think about last night, the less pissed I am about it.
We hit the ball relatively well given the opposition and his wronghandednness. Made solid contact at least. We shut down one of the best offensive teams in the country...not just with Smith and Gaeckle either. It took us essentially giving the game away for them to score.
Not to mention, as a baseball fan in general, what a great game to watch. Two great teams going balls out. One had to lose, and most of the time when they're that evenly matched the home team comes out on top.
We may well end up getting swept, but even if we do it's not necessarily a death knell for our championship hopes.
All McEntire had to do was throw the ball over the plate and see what happens. Forget about "pitching" and throw batting practice.

Well, the lead was short lived. Aggies score on back to back hits. No outs runner on first.
Woods seems to have lost it. Three straight hits. No outs runners at first and second.

That half inning was awful to watch and makes you wonder how we are ranked
So let me get this straight...
Wilmsmeyer has blazing speed and was on base with no outs (twice!) last night and we never sent him.
Diggs is slow as Christmas and banged up and we just sent him with 2 outs.
The hell are we doing?
I don't know how we won 40+ games this year.
Holt is a very good outfielder. What a catch.

I want to like Jones but he's too much of a 2 outcome player for my taste.

Tygart is with the team but not the roster. He'll be sitting this weekend to get over soreness and will probably make a start in Hoover.

Expect Diggs to sit today and Sandlot to bump down. Diggs shouldn't be above the 8 hole in a meaningful game until he shows any semblance of consistency.

Sort of odd to me that we have a top 5 rubber match and it's basically a meaningless scrimmage to prep for the postseason, but it is what it is.

To be fair, no Razorback has hit a breaking ball to save his life that last 10 years, maybe 15.

Weird considering we have a pitcher with the spinningest breaking ball in college baseball. It's almost like they should let him throw some pitches in practice.

Surprisingly, there isn't really a credible threat of rain in Hoover until Friday.
Hopefully we'll be back in Fayetteville by then.

Our lefties seem to derp hard on breaking pitches, especially sliders low and away.
That front door slider from lefty pitchers absolutely obliterates guys like Stovall, Diggs, McLaughlin, and Souza (who might be the worst at chasing).
We made it to the second round!!!!

Eh, we stumbled *much* worse in 2022 and made Omaha.
We lost 3 of our last 5 SEC series, including our final two of the year against Bama and Vandy and then went 0-2 in Hoover when we were actually playing to host.
We are going to be fine. We have a good chance of making it to Omaha.

Stupidest tournament format ever with the double elimination then single. Is there any other tournament with that format?
Once Bama gets bounced there won't be anyone there.
So, if we win, we get either Georgia, LSU, or Kentucky. Piece of cake.
