I'd call it more of a trying-to-look-younger-than-you-are phase. The Air Jordans are bad enough. He may next go to a flat brim turned sideways.

Course setup isn't really the issue. There has already been significant rain this week so the course is playing really soft. Tee shots won't run into as much trouble and balls stick on the greens.

With more rain in the forecast, it's going to be more of an issue of withstanding the elements but the scores will continue to be low.

But to take him in and get mug shot and the whole 9 yards?  Come on, Barney.

We're always reminding them to turn on their body cameras because

1. We don't trust them and they are constantly giving us reasons not to, and
2. They aren't adults and they have to be reminded to do basic shit.

Let me guess, there was some confusion with their retarded traffic control?

Traffic outside the golf course had been stopped after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET. According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.

At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler's car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.

After about 20 to 30 seconds, Scheffler rolled down his window to talk to the officer. The officer grabbed Scheffler's arm to pull him out of the vehicle, according to Darlington. The officer reached inside the vehicle to open the door, and once Scheffler was pulled out, he was pushed against the car and placed in handcuffs.

Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

Well, they were working a fatality..... so I'm guessing no one gave a fuck about the golfer guy thinking he should be able to drive around the work site if the rest of traffic was being directed a certain way.

That was part of their job.  Another was traffic control for the golf tournament...one in which the guy they arrested was a major participant.  A guy who had no way of knowing they were working a fatality accident, yet the cop had every reason to know that the guy he was hassling was part of the tourney (they have special plates on the courtesy cars the players drive that allows them full access...a cop in the area should have known this).

A little pause and judgment by the cop could have avoided the whole situation instead of immediately rushing to be Billy Badass with a badge.   I guess that's too much to ask of a department that's already murdered one innocent woman while serving a no-knock warrant at the wrong location.

My guess is that one cop, not being an idiot, saw Scheffler was in a curtesy car waived him around other traffic, whereupon he came to Rambo dipshit who then went all Eric Cartman on his ass without realizing he had been waived around.  Then  all the idiots went into "Back the Blue" mode and nobody recalled waiving him around.

If you want to know how bad the cops fucked up, consider that ESPN is reporting that the owner of  Valhala club picked him up from jail personally.

From what I've gathered Scottie was doing exactly what one cop told him to do, then another ran up started banging on his window, yelling, and grabbed onto vehicle.

Being dark and raining with police lights going off all over the place, I can see his confusion. Was he even aware the dude banging on his window was a cop? He won't say, he gave very little info about the incident.

The police fucked up here. Two guys giving exact opposite instructions seconds apart is not supposed to happen.

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/40162983/scottie-scheffler-detained-police-prior-start-pga-championship

Scheffler's attorney, Steven Romines, told ESPN that the golfer attempted to enter Valhalla Golf Club as he had been instructed to earlier, unaware there had been a fatal wreck just up the road.

"He was going into Valhalla to work out," Romines said. "He was getting ready for his tee time. They were directing traffic. He held his credential out and was going in like they'd been instructed to. Apparently, there had been a traffic accident, maybe even a fatality, down the road, and that had changed the traffic patterns, and he was unaware of that."

Romines, speaking outside the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections, said the officer who attempted to stop Scheffler wasn't part of the regular event-traffic detail at Valhalla Golf Club, "so that's where the miscommunication arose."

"They are allowed to go through, that's why they have the credential and the wave-through," Romines said. "[Scheffler] was unaware there had been a wreck, and he proceeded like they'd been instructed to. He did exactly as he was instructed to enter the premises."

Being fluent in lawyer speak, his lawyer is putting the best face on it, but it's apparent he's talking about pre-tournament instructions, not instructions on the scene from an officer. It doesn't sound like he got contradictory instructions actually on the scene. Regardless of what you were told in pre-tournament briefings, you need to follow the directions of an officer working an accident.

Shouldn't have even made news or escalated except for a few incompetent people. Where is their chief of police to incite reason into this scenario?

If I were to bet, this will be squashed and charges dismissed but the blue to like to protect their own in these situations, which I get.

There's probably some judgement to be passed around both all parties. Why is cop attaching himself to the vehicle here? Should Scottie have been more patient and aware, sure, but are traffic cops unclear sometimes and did weather and light conditions play a part, sure. Should cop had realized the big picture here, noticed he was driving a PGA branded vehicle, probably so, IMO.

Whole scenario smells very Fayetteville copish/ Billy bad ass cop type of deal.

Max should have been pulling him to the side and questioning and citing him a misdemeanor if they still felt necessary.

Big reason why a lot of folks disrespect and don't like the blue is situations like this.

Pretty definitive here.  No need to parse for "lawyer speak".  The lawyer says, "The charges will be dismissed or we will go to trial.  Scottie didn't do anything wrong."

He was directed to move around traffic by one officer who saw his curtesy car and credentials until he ran into Officer Waingro who had to get it on.

And he DID NOT drive through any accident scene.  That was nowhere near where this occurred.

Typical cop bullshit with the dramatically enhanced officer's report except this time they literally got the one guy who everyone believes is in the right.  It is the equivalent to arresting Patrick Mahomes as he is turning into the parking lot at the Superbowl.

Officer Waingro had to get it on.

Literally the dumbest motherfuckers earth.  It's the PGA championship.  He is rhe number one golfer on earth.  He is the reason there is a tournament, he is the reason for the traffic, he is the reason for whole damned thing.  The cop should have identified him, told him to pay attention and that he was sorry for the mixup and sent him on his way.  It's like the cops directing traffic at Razorback Stadium arresting the Razorback bus drive and potentially making the whole team late because they felt he ignored their directions.

So I was wrong. Scheffler is human.

This is set up for a glorious and furious battle to the finish. Fitting for a horse racing town.

I figure Scottie probably screwed up somewhere along the line there, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and that both parties will want this to go away quickly and quietly after the national media spotlight is gone.

I just don't think so.

I openly root against him all the time, solely because l he's a damn Longhorn. So I'm no Scottie lover.

But this would be so out of character and he was operating as he had been the other days leading up to this. It was THE standard procedure and he had no reason to know there had been a fatal accident just before this.

Absolutely thrilled for Xander. He played his ass off and needed every birdie. That last putt could've spun out but he deserved that good fortune.

I hope Douchebaggo has heartburn all night and cries to his YouTube minions.

Daily Mail reporting that the charges will be dropped tomorrow at the arraignment.

Now imagine instead of a wealthy golfer that not one single reasonable person in the world believes tried to run over a cop on his way to the course, that it was you or some other a average schmo.  You'd be out thousands and probably eventually have to plead to one of those misdemeanors to avoid a jury trial on a felony and spending thousands more.

And honestly if not for the ESPN car being right there and one of their reporters having the sense to realize what he was witnessing and film a good bit of it, Scheffler would probably be in the same position as one of us, albeit with a lot more money to buy his way out of it.

It a strange phenomenon for me when I see it here..having only joined the WP in 2007. Many of the same guys who gave me the business as a newb have all but disappeared citing "group think," which was responsible for the hostile culture they created.

It really has been like watching the bullies turn into giant pussies as they aged. It's a shame, but oh well. Life goes on.

They're just a bunch of butt hurt pussies because the board went from being quite liberal to conservative/MAGA.  That's the heart of it.  They could dish out the snark but when it got shoved back in their faces with a helping of MAGA, they got triggered and ran off to circle jerk each other on a new board.

The negativity here is off the charts.  It's not enjoyable to dialogue or listen to the world is going to hell in a handbasket.  It isn't.  Do you not notice that a lot of the posters who weren't political aren't coming around either?  You guys make everything political because that's what Trump weirdness has done to you.  You guys made that bridge getting hit by a boat political. You made a worldwide pandemic political.

I can name loads of non political posters that don't post here anymore but you guys let this weird couple of guys who obsess over me (also very weird) draw your ire to me.  So be it.

I appreciate the fact that you are one of the few people on here that keeps a somewhat consistent path politically based off your values.  You and, ironically, One Quarter, who was the original Trump guy. Policy should be discussed.  Politics is just bloodsport and can certainly be fun to discuss if people understood that it's just politics and phony.

As one that was gone for a few years and came back shortly before the fall of .net, I can say that I noticed a pretty big attitude change for sure. The "check your cup" type posts (which always seemed like more hazing than mean spirited at the time) were traded for posts that looked more like personal attacks.

One thing that is outright surprising (largely because I always saw the mean avg of the board as above average in the critical thinking department) is when I see posters take what amounts to little more than rumors, and they add a whole mess of fabricated context in order to leap to their unsubstantiated conclusions.

It shocks me to see the skepticism completely gone.  Remember when your grandparents discovered email and then started forwarding every crazy thing they'd read to everyone?  The same vibe here now.

The personal attacks got old.  There will be 3 completely crazy people that will go nuts on this thread about me and I still suspect two of them are the same guy with two different handles, honestly.  The old WP would have run off some of the ones who built up the fake personalities.... although we had plenty of those back then too.

I remember my first involvement on this board was tangling with that rug guy and the guy who made up shit all of the time... maybe his handle was "truth".  There was no hazing for me because I was straight up honest about who I was.  Both of those guys messaged me privately later and turned out they were kind of normal but living way too much of their lives through internet personas.   That's never stopped here, it's just different internet personas now.

I know Cerdo personally. He is probably the only one on here that can speak about things after looking at us from the outside. He grew up in a shithole country. He loves this country and can tell you how great it is, politics aside. And he does love women, but who doesn't? And he will give you a beer if you see him at a tailgate. I would happily tailgate and drink with 99% of this board.  I can only think of three people here I wouldn't want to ever meet or know but it's because they just seem unstable.  I'm pretty sure I've met and had a beer with 75-100 old time Woopiggers.

I think the bitterness is unfortunate. It doesn't have to be that way but the only person they're hurting is them and the family members that probably avoid them.    Spam is a pretty good example of being happy to be alive.

Just a thought for you to maybe consider is looking inward as well regarding that "bitterness," because it seems that for the last few years thats a theme in many of your posts. You disappear, come back and take a few pop shots at woopig while lecturing us on the good old days, then we have a few pages of back and forth with you, you disappear again, rinse, repeat.

You're probably a great guy in real life and it sounds like lots of woopiggers have great things to say about ya. Just on their word alone I know many of us, myself included, stepped up to help when your place flooded and you lost a lot. So if we ever did cross paths I'd have a beer with you in a heartbeat. But I'd also tell ya in a friendly way that you need to cinch that jock a little tighter and stop whining so much.

This isn't a "me" problem.   I don't care.  Years ago, after reading some wild stupidity in the thread preparing us for our execution football game with UGA, I realized that there were some dumb opinions here. Like everyone else, I used to naively believe that you could get insider info here maybe. Like everyone else on the internet, I grew up and realized that 90% of the internet is someone's made up bullshit. I detached and found other things to do.  I would submit to the royal "you" that Woopig needs to do better and be smarter and less racist, kooky and probably less crazy if it wants to get a significant number of posters back who left.

You guys complain because I don't stay around often, but I can name 100 people who don't come at all and they were way better material than me.

I hear ya brother, I just don't see it the way you do. You seem to think that because "posters left woopig" that thats somehow an indictment against woopig. Funny how when posters left in the old days it was because they were too soft to handle woopig. Now that some of those people have left, it's because Woopigs just too dang racist and mean.

I agree though that there's some really stupid shit said in game threads. But I remember it's a message board on the internet, who's fanbase is made of mostly from a state that scores last in almost (thank God for Mississippi) everything. Are you really surprised?

We're going in circles now so I'll bow out here. Peace.

Honestly, what more would you want?

There was more jockeying for position on Saturday and Sunday than at the other more famous event down the road a few weeks earlier.

At the end, there were two elite guys breathing down the neck of a leader who was trying to go wire-to-wire and had never closed the deal on one of these.  Either or both could tie or go ahead on the par 5 finishing hole. Meanwhile, the leader had to have two nifty up and downs on the last two to narrowly avoid a playoff. Winning with a birdie putt on 18 is about as juicy as it gets.

It was certainly far more suspenseful than the Masters this year, and the most exciting finish since the 2022 Open at St. Andrew's.

Do you ever read game threads on any other boards by chance?

They are known for heat of the moment stupidity and venting.  Not just Arkansas either...it's that way for every school that cares about sports, and every pro team with a following.  Hell, the Message Board Geniuses twitter account exists pretty much solely because of game threads, and I don't think I've seen a Woopig post there.

A lot of what you think is people leaving because of the tone of this board is just people leaving altogether for a different platform.  Message boards are so ancient that even Facebook people think they're just for old folks.  I know of a few former regulars here that have left and moved to other online platforms.  Only two of those have moved to another board because of the tone, and they were two of the more rational and likable people here.  Hell, I spend more time on that one (Rivals pay board) than I do here, so I get it.  But Woopig in any iteration will always be my online "home", even if I get to the point where I don't visit as often and find better things to do.

Others are on Twitter, and while they may blast Woopig for its political content, some of them are every bit as inflammatory and irrational politically as the worst on here...but their opinions are on the opposite side of the spectrum so it's okay I guess.  That doesn't make them bad people by the way, just like the farthest right folks here are probably good dudes too.  Most have just found better ways to spend their time, and I applaud them for it.

Let's see in this thread we have posted by the same individual, the board is kooky, mean, and gasp...racist.  Arkansas' wealthy people are stupid and lucky instead of smart and savvy.  And that's why we allegedly suck at NIL.  And Arkansas fans are stupid and make up stuff.

All observations made with a perfect unironic sense of superiority while at the same time, invoking victim status because he felt the board has failed him by being all those things and forced him to leave.

Is this now the pro/con woopig thread?

The main pro is that the best posters give you better sportswriting and analysis than beat reporters. Not to go sucking each other's dicks, but writers such as animal, feral, and Dirk bring it most of the time.

On the other end of the scale are consistent idiots. Maybe I'm one of those, maybe I'm not. I'm not going to name anybody. But once somebody's in that category, you know they're in that category, so you take them with a grain of salt.

https://www.wave3.com/2024/05/20/courtroom-video-shows-louisville-prosecutor-pushing-against-delay-scottie-scheffler-arraignment/

So the prosecutor is sure trying to make an example that he treats celebrities the same over a fairly mundane court procedure.  He's in on the ruse; he wants the delay to best figure out dropping the charges.

The PD chief has referred the matter to their IA crew using the issue neither cop turned on their body cams.  That way they will drop the charges blaming the overzealous cops, while still backing the blue, and hopefully suck enough pga dick to avoid any lawsuits.

Going so hard to try to prove Scheffler isn't special that he is making the opposite point.  Getting an arrangement moved when a case is so new would normally not even warrant comment from a prosecutor and would be agreed to immediately.

Part of me would like to see them triple down and take this bullshit to trial.  It would be great entertainment.

I've never had an issue with any poster on here and I think part of that is a lot of the posters either played sports, were military, made something out of their lives coming from nothing...basically good dudes.

I found a poster here I played against in HS in '95 is here, he remembers me and I remember him. And we're from the Memphis area. You might be surprised who you run into on here.

I think that's where some of the "wear a cup" comes from. Most of us grew up in a locker room, farm, or mess hall, etc.

I've never had an issue or had an opportunity to crack a beer with Cerdo but would welcome the opportunity (the beer).

The PGA Champ thread did take a weird turn, in typical Woopig fashion.

Well played, lads; well played  :D

The USGA assigned various golf clubs in the area the "honor" of being responsible for each of the 18 holes on #2. Mine was assigned the first hole and my wife and I volunteered.

It's a lot more complicated than I realized (we have a team of 70 just to cover all the shifts/positions for the first hole alone) but it should be a cool experience.

I work two practice rounds and Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I've done plenty of shit in my time that I should or could have been arrested for. Been made to dump out beer and weed as an underage minor. Somehow, never been arrested, thank goodness.  I guess I came across a few cops that figured we were pretty good kids doing the same shit they did as kids.

I've also ran across a few hot heads and just money collectors for minor insignificant traffic violations, where they could have issued a warning.

I don't really know all the dynamics of the LMPD here, but they still have a lot of distrust from Breonna Taylor case. I would have thought they would have tried to put this to bed and dismiss charges, discipline officer for no body cam etc. just bizarre to me that they are going to arraignment and backing this officer that already has an internal affairs rap sheet. Maybe they feel like they need the judge to do it instead to take the pressure off them.

It will be really interesting if this actually goes to trial.

Same here. A couple of the lighter weight stories.

We were at a house party (parents were out of town) when we were 17/18 years old. Had several coolers full of beer and got busted by the cops. We were made to pour it all out and I was one of the ones pouring it down the sink. Cops went into the other room to talk with other kids and as I was pouring them out I would turn one up and down it. I was issued a "ticket" for MIP and they called our parents. My baseball coach ran me the next day until I puked and he said that was what he was going to do, he was correct.

2nd story. Me and a buddy used to drive backroads and listen to music, drink, etc. We pulled down a very isolated backroad to take a piss and "parked" in the middle of the road. There was a 4 way about a quarter mile away that you could see from the road. It's 11:00pm or so, and we see headlights. Then we see blue lights. Dammit. Fayette County Sherriff and deputy pull up and gets us out of the truck and seperates us to get our stories. I told the truth - There's a cooler of cold beers in the back cab of the truck, a shotgun in the back and a pistol in the console. My buddy lied and said nothing was in the truck. Sherriff comes back to me (after confiscating the beer which I'm sure they enjoyed that night) and says "tell your buddy to not lie next time and take your asses home, get off the road". Neither of us went to jail and very well could have.

It all depends on who you run in to.

Title: Re: 2024 PGA Championship

I posted earlier, either here or elsewhere, that Scheffler wouldn't be wise to pursue civil action (if available - qualified immunity rears its ugly head again) against the officer because it would flip the narrative from overzealous cop abusing authority to wealthy athlete punching down at humble civil servant.

If the DA proceeds with charges, I think that qualifies as a material change.  In that case, once acquitted go scorched earth on any and all participants.  And the PGA and USGA need to make it known publicly that if this case goes to trial Valhalla will never again sniff so much as a junior amateur regional qualifying event, much less major championships or the Ryder Cup.  Following through with what would be a show trial would require all the major golf orgs to stand up for one of their own.

New body cam footage and photos have been released.

Warning...one of these photos depicts the gruesome injury suffered by that heroic arresting officer.

I have had more damage than that scratching a mosquito bite.

Is there a way for you to post those pictures with a graphic warning. What if a child had been looking over my shoulders as I viewed those gory, gruesome photos. You heartless thoughtless bastard.

I did put a warning on the first one, but you're right, I should've carefully labeled each one.

Good thing the Woopig Psychologist is on emergency call this weekend.

It will be a long slow recovery for both myself and the poor cop. Ts and Ps for him.

Common sense:

Never step out in front of a moving vehicle to make it stop.

Never grab hold of a moving vehicle thinking your strength will stop it.

If you do grab a moving vehicle, don't slid on your ass trying to be the brake.

You might need to teach a class at the Louisville police academy

Clearly I can't apologize enough. At least I didn't use any incorrect pronouns.

Well, I'm not really not sure about that. I just tonight learned about furry identifying beings. Something about a fursona.

It's most likely the PS was the only part he actually wrote.

Scottie is clearly disturbed by the mortal injuries he inflicted.  He just polished off his 5th win of the season in US Open conditions. Guess what tournament is next week.

The list of tourneys he has won this year is very impressive.
