Title: The Open Championship 2024
Post by: jdcatty on Jul 18, 2024, 10:37 AM
Haven't seen a thread on this.  They are playing at Royal Troon this year.  A seaside course in Scotland.  Right now JT is leading at -3.  Koepka started  off terribly, but has now run off 4 birdies in a row and is now -2.

He's lurking!

I wonder if Ben Curtis shows up.  I guess I could look but I merely wonder rather than care.

Tigger with a +8 first round. Tied for 139th.

Maybe he should quit golf along with JD.

Golf network did a 10 minute look at The Postage Stamp yesterday.

What a helluva difficult hole.

Lowry shot a 69 today and currently leads at -7.  Scheffler is at -3 with only one hole left.

Hard to not like Lowry.  Seems like a good drinking buddy.

Oh, I should add-- wind is really blowing today.

Scheffler bogeyed 18 and finished at -2. McIlroy currently at +13 midway through his round. DeChambeau at +8 after 13 holes. Projected cut line currently at +5.

Projected cut now +7. The wind was giving them fits, but has subsided a little in the last few minutes.

Cut line moved back to -6.  Bunch of big names going home, including Rory and DeChambeau.

I've never bet on golf before, but if they set the cut line at -6, then I probably will.

Of course, I screwed that up.  It's +6.  What a fuck up.

Is he a big name anymore? He's just a guy who plays in tournaments who never makes the cut. There are a ton of guys like that on the Tour.

Hey don't worry about it, JD. If the Secret Service can make a mistake, you can too. You're forgiven brother. Unity!

There it is. The dumbest post ever on WooPig. Is Tiger Woods a big name? Really?
As much as WooPig hates him, there are still people that were watching the last 2 days only because he was playing. The viewing numbers will be down this weekend because he didn't make the cut.
Is he a big name? Even HTL hasn't said anything that dumb and that is saying something.

I love that Tiger is still playing and getting air time because my boys are old enough now to understand they're watching arguably the best golfer ever. Who cares if he's not in his prime. They'll be able to tell their kids that they watched Tiger when they were younger.

I like that he is still competing.  I don't like that they show almost every shot he takes even when he is not in contention.

Listened this morning on xm, foreign announcers are so much more descriptive and enjoyable to listen to.

I guess there's no reason to watch this weekend then since Eldrick didn't make the cut (again) in a major. I also assume the crowds won't show up at Troon since Rory AND Eldrick won't be playing.

Complete horseshit.  I never got to go to a golf tournament that Nicklaus or Palmer played in.  But if I had, would I have gone to watch them play a few holes, even if they were no longer competitive?  You're damn right I would have. And I would have told my grandkids about it.

Lowry can eat a 💼 of dicks.  Hit it in the fairway, asshole.

lol I don't know who Brown is, but having a smoke and taking a selfie on the way to trying to hit an impossible shot with your ball on the lip of a bunker at 18, has me rooting for him.

That was pretty wild.  John Daly-ish man of the people

If Scotland has a Hooters, I'm pretty sure that's where he's headed next.

There's definitely no reason to say Tiger Woods isn't a big name. It is just stupid. Admit it came out wrong and move on or keep trying to defend it and look like an idiot.

If you don't believe there will be less viewers this weekend, you haven't been paying attention.

Perhaps it came out wrong, but I don't see the appeal of watching anyone past their prime trying to relive the glory days. I saw him play when he was still winning. If people want to pay $$ to watch him limp around and hack it around and miss the cut, then by all means do it.

Gotta hate it for Lowry. He had a 4 footer for birdie to go 9 under on number 7, missed it, then double bogeyed the postage stamp after hitting his tee shot into the coffin bunker, and it went downhill from there, he shot a 77 to finish at -1.

Billy Horschel is your unlikely leader at -4 heading into today's final round. Shreveport's Sam Burns fired a 65 yesterday to finish at -3, just one shot off the lead. Xander Schauffele at -3, Justin Rose at -3, the chain-smoking journeyman Daniel Brown still in it at -3, and the ever present stalking horse Scottie Scheffler is right there at -2.

That's a pretty good leaderboard heading into today's final round. The weather is supposed to be a little better today.

Already lots of drama and changes.

Rooting for Rose who is now 1 clear of the pack

Links golf is real golf.

I've played a LOT of Links golf, and I disagree with you. I feel like the layout of most links courses are too limited by all the apartments around it.

I can hear my drive bouncing off of rooftops at the Links at Rainbow Curve.  😀

A professional golfer just hit a slice so far right that it flew over railroad tracks and out into the woods. Maybe 100 yards right of the fairway.

That's how my slice works.

Looks like Schauffele has it.  I only place two bets on this tournament.  Scheffler and Schauffele.  I'm feeling pretty good about that last one.  $10 to win $130
