Wouldn't it be something? Game commentary is welcome.
Wrecking parades is the new cooking hot dogs over bonfires.
ESPN giving them -10 and have them with a 55.8% chance to win.
I think the pokes are overrated. If we don't cover, that won't change my mind on that. It will just make me think we suck worse than I hoped.

Same. Part of me thinks we will jump out on them early b/c of the start time. The other part of me thinks that they will be wee-weed up b/c of an SEC game and we will trip on our dicks with some stupid ass trick play early.
We win easy today. Then we go 4-0, get ranked, get our hopes up, etc. Then we get kicked in the nads.

Point spreads in early season college games are really irrelevant because it's mostly degenerate gamblers betting college ball who really don't know much, hence the money falls heavily on the better regarded team.
A win is a win, loss is a loss. Hogs gotta stop a powerful running game today. We shall see.
Laura is looking fine this morning on SEC nation. As nice as those legs look today they looked even better wrapped around my head last night.
Shit I need to get my panties on and go get some consumer items to consume for the weekend, maybe some cold snacks as well. Do some banking. Once the game comes on it'll be a 5 hour event which will eat up the rest of the day. I dislike mid-day games unless Bert is calling plays...he'll run the football and get out of there no matter what.

Just heard on the pregame show that the team took buses to a road game for the first time since the 1978 game in, you guessed it, Stillvegas.
Well, I guess they meant other than the road games in Little Rock.
Quinn is sounding even more relaxed in his manner of speaking these days.
He was just talking about putting points on the "scoboard."
It won't impact todays game, but frick Disney and DirectTV.

I got the Hogs today. If they prove they're good it'll buy me tickets to a game. If I lose it probably means we suck and I'm not going to a game this year.
Win win.
But here I go again with my hope and optimism.

Fuck Nick Saban.
Pat still has faith. As does Lee. And Kirk. Wtf is going on here?
Time to find out what we're made of.
Damn, Lee picked us. Saban picked OSU but said we'd be the most improved team in the SEC this year and sounded like he wouldn't be surprised if we won.

I was thinking the same thing. Then I remembered that the game is on ABC and OSU is #16.
This is "a game with playoff implications." Wow!
Oh wait. For them.
Alrighty then.
First time watching ABC in a while. Vanna White looks like all that remains is the artificial preservation. Not pairing well against the younger Ryan Segrest who after 55 years has finally found himself a job.
Pit needs to unleash Petrino on the refs
Interesting pass defense strategy. "Grab the wr in mid route and tackle him"
If we can't get a better pass rush than that, we're screwed.
We bring a "bend before you break" defense today?
Announcers suck so far.
Bring back more SWAC opponents.
Nice D!!!!
They matriculated the ball right down the field and then shit on themselves. Very Arkansas.
Big stop!
What a shitty play call on 4th and 1. I'll take it.
12 yard pickup on the first play. Nice space!
That was nice. I am feeling quite well
Nice QB option. 20 yards!
Oh my.
Keep gashing them until they stop it
Go for it.
Like I said, very Arkansas. Mirror images.
Bad play call on 2nd down.
Green has to account for the extra man on 3rd down. Had Armstrong wide open on the crosser.
We looked like we never heard of a blitz

Ha ha ha-- it has started. Let's trash the announcers, whoever they are. Same thing every year.

That 3rd down obviously someone missed an assignment and the QB got killed. We need to throw it to granny in that situation and let our kicker go for 3.
Also no matter the sport it always seems like the televised shots of OSU are from orbit.
Quote from: Gambler on Sep 07, 2024, 11:19 AMWe will move the ball on them. I just hope we stop them a few times.
But will we score? That is the question. We definitely need to get some stops. We're doing our best to take away the run (right move), but their passing game is on point thus far.
Nice field position.
This QB looks like he's floating some balls.
Our strategy should absolutely be force the QB to beat us throwing
That was almost a Chad era style disaster.
lol Green fakes the handoff to nobody and still runs for a first down
I think that was a blown play lol. I think he expected the RB to be there...

Fair enough. 3-3-5 is a fairly easy front to block but its also sneaky because you can bring more defenders than blockers pretty easy. but the run should dominate that front
Their QB has moves like cold molasses
Three defensive series that looked good.
Here's what I like with this offense vs the shitshow we've had the past few years. Instead of inept endless delays while Briles tried to figure out his neato play to call, the lazy shit on the Los, the slow down no huddle stupidity, in only its second game this offense runs on a cadence, you could beat a drum to it. We havent seen that with Sam until now. This is how you start building a winning disciplined team.
Thank god OSU cant catch shit

Having a mature OC like we do you end up getting a OC WHO GENERALLY KEEPS CALLING PLAYS THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING. So I look for that but on the same token we'll see if OSU can make adjustments. Are we saving the screen play for the SEC games?
FUCK YEAH!!!

Hell yeah!
Singletary intercepted the pass from orbit
I'm thinking maybe we need to develop some dump off plays and hots whenever the QB is getting pressure which seems to be every third down.
Someone keeps mentioning Hasz....he's in there blocking a lot but hasn't had any catches that I know of. Washington came real close to getting a ball in the endzone. The big foreigner guy hasn't played.
Pick off by 15

There is zero reason to be aggressive up 21-7.
You're really up 21-0 as the cowboys have shown zero ability to do anything on offense.
No sense in having a fuckup, giving them a short field, and letting them get a touchdown at worst or a field goal at best.
And, we deferred to the second half.

Agreed. OSU offense looks like we did last year. Dont fuck up and give them hope at the end of the half
Should be 28-0 but I'll take it.
I can live with that result. If we get positive yards on 1st down then we probably push it down field and try to get another score. Instead lets just take it to the barn.
OSU has made some adjustments and we need to counter now. Mullet aint no dummy he's gonna put points on the board but I figure if we play mistake free we have an excellent chance of winning this one.

His arm is getting weak with age. He'll be joining AARP in a couple years.
I don't think we've sniffed their QB once with pressure. Some of that may be by design of watching run lanes and containing the box but we sure aren't getting any jail breaks.
No need to really send extra pressure when the guy keeps serving up lolly pop passes...sometimes he's finding open guys but our DBs are doing a relatively decent job of sticking with their guys.
You can file this away under something to be concerned about against a better SEC grade QB.
they were obviously concerned about gordon.

Because he's a fucking loser. It turns out it doesn't really matter who the coordinators are, they can't get his losing "Aw, shucks" stank off the players.
Alright, lets go get a touchdown.

The QB was behind the line of scrimmage when he passed it.
Fuck, idk. That's how they explained it. Didn't say it was correct. I think the refs just felt bad at our inability to fuck the game up so they helped us out.

We are beating ourselves
The important part is there is a new opportunity to score points now. Lets not fuck it up and get something going. This team looks like it played a D2 team as a warm up opponent though.
Oh and also that special teams coordinator that Pittman is married two has sucked the entire time he's been here. If it weren't for Little padding stats the guy's track record would look really fucking bad.
Regardless of the outcome of this game, there's a shitload to be concerned about.
2nd half offense sucks
Defense lacks depth
Pass rush is nonexistent
Specials teams is ass
Don't have a kicker

Seems like they've been gassed since mid-third quarter. I'd be surprised if they didn't just roll over now and give up 2TDs.

No, they said the receiver wasn't past the line of scrimmage when he caught it.
This feels like Georgia 2009.
We need an 8 minute 33 yard drive for a TD.

Fucking go for it.
Been the same thing all 2nd half. Good play, good play, mistake for a loss that fucks up the whole drive.
On 3rd and 14 there watch Jackson again.
He went down and whiffed on his block, and then just stood up with his hands on his hips instead of getting downfield to try to help his scrambling QB. Totally quit on the play. That's why we're losing.
Lolololol.
That's the ball game.

Lol and then our QB has to scramble for it and instead of blocking our OL is standing 2 yards short of the marker trying to signal 1st down.
Bobby's calls this half have sucked, and as one of his biggest fans I'll admit it, but this team is still so soft that it's nothing short of the perfect representation of Sam Pittman.
Get some pressure on the fucking QB now please.
Pittman really trust's his kicker...uh no he doesn't. They've been pretty mum about it all preseason.
Winning this game probably means we go to a bowl. Losing it means we're not a bowl team. This isn't a very good team we're playing.
2nd half struggle is because we were up big. It always happens under Bert and under Tits, if we get up big we start to slack off, let the other guys get back in it, then panic till we lose.

Correct
I've never seen a QB throw for nearly 400 yards or whatever and look so inaccurate doing it for much of the game. There were passes there that he just flat out under threw. Also a good many times where he just held the ball and never looked off his primary read. Early in the game he had running lanes and they were rolling him out and he was really good throwing on the run.
The mental mistakes and the special teams errors lost this game or in other words...same song different dance.

That is what was bad. Wide open receivers, and either Green never looked at them, or threw it incomplete. Bobby had the right call, but Green fucked it up.

This team will probably get better if they can clean up the penalties and knucklehead plays I think there's a decent chance we win some games. I won't be surprised if/when Green gets killed that Singleton comes in and never leaves the starter role. Edit: We don't have a kicker and that's going to limit us in close games. You can't miss two field goals, pass on another because you have no confidence in the kicker.
Wasn't really focused on the offensive line to see who the weak link is...probably the center who was putting that ball on/near the ground most of the game. We don't have a center and we're a pistol/gun team mostly. Our tackles are money for the most part.
I also thought our lack of depth started to show as the game went on...coming out after half you can tell who's got the steam and who don't...we didn't get it back until late in the fourth where we started to wake up a big but the defense was over worked by then.

There is no empirical evidence that we will clean up our mistakes. It's what we do under Titboss.
Besides the TOs, we had fumbled snaps, wide open dropped passes, dropped INT, stupid penalties, missed FGs. Teams on the bubble of winning seasons can't do shit like that.
No. I'm a realist and know that everything is not blamed directly on the coach. Sometimes players make plays. Sometimes they don't.Nothing Pittman did today caused us to lose. Players not making enough plays caused us to lose.

I mean shit, if our best linebacker doesn't go WWE on a receiver that was going nowhere right in front of the officials, we might still be playing.

Quote from: DirkPiggler on Sep 07, 2024, 03:27 PMI don't get why you're running that last play with Hill anyway, or why he's the 2nd back. Dubinion or even Russell would've been better for short yardage.
I agree with that but will defer to the coaches who have seen these guys practice for last two months. Dubinion is not one to break tackles and aside from being a "veteran" I'm not sure what he offers. Evidently they believe Hill is better. I don't think they wanted to put Russell in that situation given he hasn't played all game. We looked extremely thin at RB today vs last week where we worked in several guys. Kind of strange but I'm guessing pass pro is the reason.
We don't seem to run many of what are now traditional RPO's out of the gun...it's more like misdirection/cutback type plays that sometimes evolve into passes. We aren't just running right at anybody but when we did some pin/pull stuff it was there to be had with Jackson.
Don't know what the answer would have been on that 4th down but I might have tried to get Green on the run as a run/pass I think that's where he's best suited. Some kind of sprint out and try to leak a guy in the back of the endzone even.

I want Yuri gone too. He got us into this mess.
We seemed to have a shit ton of wide open receivers a lot today and Green couldn't find them or something. If we can continue to get receivers open, we should get better if Green gets better. That throw in OT to the wide open receiver's feet sucked. He could have lobbed it out there and it would have been complete. I am not sure Singleton might be better.

We also had a kid push someone down after the play in that OT that they didn't call earlier in OT.

He's still two games over .500 for buy-out purposes (two under .500 overall), so it would take consecutive losses to Auburn, A&M, Tennessee and LSU after beating UAB next week.

Willy Robinson it is
I feel like 6 wins keeps Sam another year to see if Petrino can develop Singleton or other plus bring in more talent. Only way Petrino is retained by a new staff would be if it's the DC getting the nod because of youth and what not.
For Sam it could be a golden parachute thing where we start 2-5 or something and Sam gets to step down gracefully and Petrino gets the rest of the season to "do something". I think we took a timeout at around the 1:30 to go mark and you could see Petrino going over to Pittman and telling him what a panicky dumbass he is.

Anytime a team has a sure-fire win in OT, all they have to do is score, and they go all conservative (OSU should not have) and then miss the winning field goal, I have never seen that team go on to win the game in the next OT. The made FG papered over it but the urgency and decision making on our 1 minute drill was ass. You ALWAYS have to be ready to snap the ball when the ref makes it ready. You can't be looking around and shifting players and letting the clock run when there's 30 seconds left in the game.

Trey Buddy's walk and talk was good. He puts it on the team and Sam and Bobby. Mostly on Sam.
It usually comes down to turnovers, injuries, penalties, special teams in close games. We got our ass kicked in all four. Q having a full body cramp is bad hydration monitoring. They went into the half dominant and then came out and played sloppy and like they'd already won the fucking game, so just careless play. A major character element of fucking Sam's teams. Weak. Fucking lack of ball awareness. Stupid boneheaded penalties. Game on the line and I'm putting a suplex on a dude. Bench his ass. Shitty kicker, muffed punts.
A football team no matter how good has to learn how to win. Sam learned nothing at Georgia about it and this team couldn't handle a lead.
BMFP deserves some hits too. Line up and spike the fucking ball. Why men in motion? Some questionable plays called. Some questionable personnel decisions.
Should have won this game handily. Sam is a loser. That's the problem. He goes so likely does the rest. Bobby is a better OC. But likely all new crew in 25.

That's horseshit. I think the "material" was from earlier in camp and what he said wasn't even all that bad. Wasn't even from game week. And OK State certainly played like shit for most of that game, we handled them easily in the first half. If Arkansas plays mistake free in the first half we're up 28-0 and probably cruise to victory. We had lost focus bigly in the 3rd quarter and for all the veteran guys that get brought in each season now thru the portal we shouldn't be playing like a bunch of young candy asses that just had their first taste of success.
When Okie Lite intercepted that pass and ran it back for a score in the first half, I knew it was over. Instead of being 21-0, it was 14-7. I knew we were screwed.

That is at the bottom of the list of reasons why we lost this game.
Robert Allen from Okie State radio on Sirius college sports...
Calls it an experienced team that found a way to win vs a team that didn't know how to win.
He said looking across the field even when we had the lead we just looked like we wanted to finish the game but just didn't know how to.
Otherwise he was extremely positive about us.

He's pretty spot on there. Pittman doesn't know how to win. 2-10 in the last 12 games decided by one possession.
He is right. And Sam and his apologists will spend the week talking about how we're inexperienced and whatever. And, to some degree, they might be right and we might improve in that respect. But we all know it's just a feature of a Sam team.
Green has some tools that Petrino will build on. He reminds me of a young Kaepernick or even a super raw Jake Plummer.
The defense played pretty well considering the way Big 12 teams press you with the passing game.
I have to just shake my head at the turnovers. We gave that game away but there probably wasn't a Hog fan who I was reading online during the game that really thought we would hold on to the lead and win that game.
We looked raw. We won't get bowl eligible this year and Okie Lite was the usual overrated Big 12 team. We'll scare some teams a few times this year but we still only win 4 or 5 games total.

To me the special teams screw ups and the penalties are the Sam problems.
Offensively, we were obviously much better. Not just in production, but in discipline and execution. Fewer stupid penalties and fewer false starts with great route running and lots of clutch playmaking on third down. Sure, there were mistakes and a least one bad turnover on the pitch out, but that kind of stuff can be corrected. New players unused to the spotlight. It might get better. Let's see.
But I can't see any excuse for having a punt returner hit by his own teammate twice in a game. How is that an issue? Why do we not have a better kicker? Special teams have continually sucked throughout Sam's tenure. You win close games with special teams. Sam's fault.
Same with stupid penalties like the personal foul. A continuation of a theme with Sam. Sam's fault.

Sam looked at Cam Little's success and let it blind him to all of Fountain's other failures. What he doesn't get is that evaluating kickers out of high school is very luck dependent. You can judge physical ability very easily, but you can't tell if they have the ability to ignore the shit in their throats when the game is on the line. Fountain got shit in a swinging jug lucky in finding Little, and if yesterday's performance is any indication he did with the new punter as well. The thing that isn't luck dependent is whether your returners know when to fair catch kickoffs (ANSWER: Always with the ball going to the 25), where to be when your punt returner fair catches, how to avoid touching a live punt on the ground, etc. Those things have been issues sinc Fountain got here.
Sam has done a pretty good job of correcting obvious failures, albeit usually later than he should. The special teams coach is his one glaring omission.
Remember all the returns for TDs we had with Petrino? He'd have this shit fixed in one practice.
Our PR crew was getting driven right into the return guy a lot of the game. That's shit that can't happen either A. because surely they are coached better than that. B. It's just plain wrong to be letting yourself get worked like that coming down the field.
Now when it comes to #6...to me the guy is a bit lite...Reggie Fish (ISH) I know he's speedy and maybe a weapon now as a WR but when it comes to return guys I'd rather than be a bit stronger built especially for PR. That Tslaa guy might not house one but he'd be a pretty good punt catcher I'd think.
I don't see Sategna running thru tacklers no matter what kind of lane you give him. But again you can't have your own dudes up in your face when you are trying to catch a ball. That's just plain dumb. I saw #14 do it once or twice and I believe on the fumble it might have been #18 who ever that is. 14 is Bryce Stephens who never panned out at WR but is on the field to get his shit pushed in apparently.

Said this very thing yesterday. Teslaa should have PR duties.
The fact of the matter is that it's highly unlikely that we're going to house one against SEC athletes and punt coverage units, so I'd rather have someone sure-handed handling punt returns. A muffed punt is an absolute killer (as we saw yesterday) because it's a turnover that flips the field, and is basically the equivalent of the defense giving up a 40 yard gain.
Quote from: Natty_Ice on Sep 08, 2024, 07:36 AM0% chance of that happening as long as TG healthy enough to play. Too much NIL invested. Look for MS to transfer.

He's got one more. Being Arkansas I expect us to make him go into his final season an another full refresh with a new play caller. Dude has a lot of potential and this may be a Casey Dick scenario where the November version looks much much better than the September guy.
If Taylen can catch the ball he might Matt Jones' his way into the NFL. Dude is a freak athlete. Don't think he's got the arm to be an NFL QB...leaves a lot of balls short especially on the deep ball. That might just be mechanics and timing that has to beat into or out of him depending on the situation. I think a lot of our reads/options are predetermined. As are a good many of the called passes to primary guys he seems to not go thru progressions very well. I do agree from what I've seen so far I'd love to see Petrino get an opportunity to continue to work with these QBs for a few years.

Sategna wasn't really the problem on the returns. It was whoever wears #18 not having sense enough to get the fuck away from the returner after a fair catch, not once but twice. And ultimately, the coach whose job it is to direct players where to go.
Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Sep 08, 2024, 11:02 AMRemember all the returns for TDs we had with Petrino? He'd have this shit fixed in one practice.
We had good special teams with John L Fucking Smith in charge of that part of the game. Yeah, let Petrino run his foot all the way up Fountain's ass and clean that shit up.
That post-game win expectancy surely hasn't taken into account the retard factor with Pittman. But again with being the 16th thru 30th team in the nation (actual and not pesky rankings) in the SEC just means you are probably closer to the 6 to 8 win mark at the end of the season. The SEC may be a bit down right now so perhaps that statement doesn't hold up but who is "good"...the Big 10? ACC hasn't really impressed. Georgia is going to look bored most of the season and may wake up long enough to win a title. Texas may make some noise but I aint sold so far. Notre Dame has already used one of their 4 losses to rule them out of the playoffs and it's only week 2.
It being a 12 game playoff probably changes some things to. You might see coaches take risks or bring on development cycles a bit slower than normal knowing they probably can sustain an L. But you college football can't help itself and will put a few rent-a-win types that haven't lost a game because they never played anybody into the playoff over legit P5's
After having 24 hours to digest that game I don't feel any better. You should never lose a game like that. But we've been doing it a lot around here. For years. The list of screwups and bone-headed plays is long but the one that stands out to me the most is Sorey going WWE on that guy for no reason, then they score and go for two and make it.
We dominated statistically, which gives me hope for the rest of the year. This bunch has talent. If we don't win at least 6 games that's got to fall on the head coach. Speaking of, I was disappointed that Sam never figured out how to make some 2nd half adjustments with our O-line. Their D was stunting and blitzing and gashing us the entire 2nd half and we never figured it out. Some of that falls on Petrino too.

I agree on it being good stuff. I thought for a few of those big runs that line did very little and it was all Jackson. In fact that's partly true...OK Lite had horrendous LB play in the first half and they got that shit corrected. There were a few of those runs like the pin and pulls where the line did great at hitting their assignments so I believe what we're really talking about is getting more consistency.
What I'm wondering now is why didn't we try some
Run Right At Em plays to off-set all the cut-back shit we were running that they were jumping on but then again I'm not a world class offensive coordinator.
I remember Pittman saying he wasn't overly happy with the OTs play in the game and I can see why now.

I think he is very good. I've never seen one of his. A lot of these things lose me after a minute.
I wonder where DJ learned so much about football?
I remember we had a Olineman during the Petrino era, that was going through an interview with the Panthers, at the combine. They asked him to draw up a play and they liked it so much, that they added it to their playbook.
I watched every minute of that and didn't intend to. DJ gives me hope. I just don't know if the players have the mental capacity to do what's necessary though.
Going through those offensive plays it sounded like he was going to say "Oh my god, I'm in the big game. Everybody's watching. Here comes blitz, piss down my leg. Not able to maintain my block. Bam. Can't handle the D...unlike my momma."
DJ is excellent. I saw a lot of miscues and missed assignments, and he caught so many more details than I did watching it live. Someone has been recruiting some not-smart offensive linemen, and our #1 RB apparently hasn't figured out the whole offense yet.
Taylen probably has a shock collar on in practice now with a 3-second timer.

Evidently, not from his father. :this_is_woopig:
It's good that DJ has YouTube to offer his opinions on outside of the news caster gig.
He's not shitting on the kids just pointing out some fairly correctible things but Big 12 dudes running right fuckin by our OTs does not really bode well.
That's probably more mental than physical but as they say fatigue makes cowards of us all.
If healthy I think the line will come together but we need the skill guys getting on the same page regarding staying focused.

We are the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The only similar loss I remember from one of "my" teams was the Steelers loss to the Oakland Raiders sometime during the Ben Roethlisberger era. The Steelers had like 475 yards of offense, to the Raiders 120. Five turnovers and a punt block let the Raiders get the victory.
