I know you're trying to be funny or at least smart, but I think it's valuable to quantify and that this metric portends future success.
I think Biddy kind of hit on this but we were really missing a 3rd back getting some work in that game yesterday...sure would have been nice to have had a backup 250lb guy to go get that yard late in the contest when we really needed it. But I can understand you don't necessarily put a kid in cold off the bench that hasn't played a lick all game. A few carries in the 3rd quarter might have been some "feel good" carries to put that shit over the top but we'll never know now.
Not playing musical chairs at RB is not what we've been used to seeing out of Pittman and as I recall Petrino seemed to always use at least 3 guys as well so it's a bit odd that we never did yesterday. I'm guessing that says a lot about what they think about pass pro/knowing the offense out of those guys. So that must mean there is a big gap in game readiness from RB2 Hill to Russell and Dubinion.
The passing routes are very much Petrino but the alignment and the run game to me remind me more of what we saw out of Briles Baylor style offense.
And not to throw gasoline on the fire but for Petrino...Lamar Jackson was a long time ago now. He hasn't really had much of a success story QB to keep that legendary QB guru thing going for a minute. That was like 7 years ago and his QBs after were very average...to me it appears Petrino has been chasing Lamar Jackson's ghost for a while and really had a vision for that type of player while at Arkansas the first time with Mitchell but that guy never panned out. We aren't talking about Chaney claiming Drew Brees from 20 years earlier as his lone success story but I mean let's put another one on the board already. Hopefully that's Taylen Green but I'm not entirely sold.

Great point about the QB train derailing. Maybe that's as much a reflection of this generation of daisies that can't handle being lovingly called a motherfucker every now and again.
The behind the scenes stuff on Hogs+ with Green showed a bit of a gentler BmfP but I bet when the cameras are off he's not much changed.

Well the opening sentence answers one of the debates in the other thread.
The 8th-largest crowd in Razorback Stadium history (and largest for a season opener since USC in 2006) flocked to Fayetteville
Also, I'm not sure this sentence makes any sense. He knew we could run so....he didn't?
Bobby Petrino realized pretty quickly that his offense could get whatever it wanted on the ground, so the Razorbacks only ran the ball 33 times.

Sure is...trying to attribute Petrino Prime with Grandpa Petrino is probably a mistake. Also it's a much different game now with lots of transient players arguably more so than you'd find on a pro team from year to year. It's going to take time to "gel" and yes sure also this team probably isn't that good especially when we start having to get into our depth.
We were down a starter on OL to enter the season. Now we are probably down two unless Kutus can give us something and soon. We're beat up on defense. The team spent 6 days in fall camp preparing for Okie Lite and still lost...that probably took a lot of wind out of their sails.
But sure Petrino is mindfucking everyone.

Meh, it's well known. Nutt would have run the ball 50 times for 400 yards and we would have won 48-17 or something like that. Next SEC game we would have been completely helpless when they shut down the run. Petrino does use these games to work in what doesn't work.

Thought this was widely known. Passing game still needs help and this was our last chance before SEC play.
If our WRs can't catch the ball it won't matter anyway. Broden will drop another TD on Saturday. Book it.

Surely they won't continue to okay him. He had at least 3 drops in the second half. How long will Green get to improve? Singleton looked pretty accurate in his time on the field and Green isn't.
Watching that DJ Williams breakdown was not kind to Ty Broden. Dude is getting pwned by a corner half his size and is falling down coming out of his route. Looking like a newborn stork. Was not a good look and that was against a CUSA talent or whatever. That breakdown of him and others really landed it home with me that this is not Petrino's team to run in case anyone was curious.
Behind Armstrong we don't really have legit SEC WRs and Armstrong is productive but probably isn't top shelf quality. At this point there's little hope of expecting Dozier or James to give us much help but those are bigger frame guys that can't get on the field. Bryce Stephens has been a wasted scholarship for nearly a decade. Tslaa is a freak athlete but just doesn't have the speed...guy looks like he probably should have been a safety. The tea leafs suggest that Anthony, Brown, and maybe Johnson are next on the depth chart behind the guys that go out there and flop.
Green is a work in progress and as DJ Williams says and I agree if you can get this kid to trust his eyes, trust the offense and let the ball go on time he's gonna be hard to stop but he's got to stand in the pocket and make the throws and he's trying to Lamar Jackson his shit all the time. This may be the curse that Petrino will bare from now on when he brings in a mobile QB that knows dude coached Lamar Jackson. These guys want to escape the pocket and trust their legs more so than the pocket/offense.
The flip side is what I mentioned above it's hard to trust the offense when you know some of your dudes literally can't run the routes or don't know where to be. Bottom line is Green missed several reads where the ball has to be out and on time and target. This offense overall is a work in progress. Green should get better but now we are going into conference play and if he tries this running shit he's gonna get blasted. He's got a lot of tape on him now so he's gonna start taking some ass chewings so he will either get it corrected or we probably see the next guy.
Singleton to me looks more like the type of kid that has legs but is much more willing to use his nugget and his arm and is probably more likely to be a long term starter but I can understand why they don't want to pull the trigger on Green just yet. I doubt we see Singleton get time on the road...I think they ride or die with Green for the next game and maybe the one after that as well.
Also a big factor in this Auburn game is probably gonna end up being the fact that our 2nd team center is a huge drop off from Nichols. Haven't heard a injury report but kinda sounded like they may have to sit him for a game or two.

He is running out of positive things to say. I said in the Razorback thread that he and Forde were patronizing fans instead of being critical of GVN.
His point is "we lost a close game that shouldn't have been close (we should have lost decisively)."
That's the trouble with analytics; it can't account for the intangible "human" factor. Pittman is a loser. He will find a way to lose. Just because it was close or closer than it should have been, etc, doesn't change anything. Pittman is very good at being a loser.
He will find a way to lose a game. Any game. Sometimes he fails and we win anyway, but more often than not, he finds a way.

Well, Pittman has it covered all the way around. We lost a close game in which we should have been drubbed and we lost a close game against OSU in which we should have been doing the drubbing.

I agree about Adam Ford but in a different way on principal. That's kinda why I stopped looking at that dudes content. It's goofy at times. The fluke play argument is not new for him. I'd much rather watch DJ or Carter breakdown film than read an article with lots of nerd analytics. I think getting lost into those weeds is simply ignoring what we're really actually seeing that shows up on tape.
The vast majority of plays where a team scores from distance comes at the expense of a breakdown somewhere. With respect to our first TD he's right it was a fluke play in a sense. The defense had it defended perfectly but Green shed the pressure, showed great pocket presence, kept his eyes down field and found a man to throw to. AND he never did it again the entire game. Had he continued to do that for the entire game I have little doubt we would have won and probably won convincingly given that A&M had no QB. Against a team with a QB we probably get smoked. Ford wanted us to run more and the tape shows us getting blown the fuck up on early downs so it kind of forced our hand there. Plus Jackson is beat up or soft as fuck. We need to be able to pass to set up the run. Was Petrino being stubborn? Maybe...also as many of us have suggested Petrino is known for running shit that he knows won't work "now" but will work later. Is Petrino taking a long view here? Is he simply calling his offense knowing this is what has to happen in order to move forward...guy has to do the progressions or we won't win.
The analytics only show what we already knew...we suck bigly on early downs and Green has to pull a rabbit out of the hat on 3rd down or we punt. That makes us easy to defend. We suck on early downs because keeds aren't trusting the offense. There are growing pains with guys not running the right routes. There are false starts and other correctable penalties. The QB is very often predetermining who he's going to. The kid has the tools he's just got to let it soak in that the better he gets at progressions the easier this offense is going to flow despite the shitty blocking.
Then we come back to your point which is if there is a right, wrong, or indifferent choice to be made Pittman is taking the wrong choice every single time. The guy simply can't make winning decisions. He has very little feel for the moment. Now it comes down to execution and team discipline. Pittman is not committing 10 penalties he's boys are. Pittman is not whiffing on blocks...his kids are. Pittman is not holding onto the ball too long and taking sacks or fumbling or getting the ball picked off because you are slow as fuck at deciding what you want to do. Pittman is not flopping in run fits.
Pittman is among the idiots that put a 3rd string DE in the game at a critical moment presumably because the 1st and 2nd team guys needed an orange slice. That was a true freshman Charlie Collins fwiw. We put a true freshman on the field and I'm looking at the roster and see like 30 OL guys (we play 5 and have maybe 2 worth a fuck) and a lot of fat motherfuckers as DTs but don't see that many "Rush End" types. We have a total of six Edge DEs and two of those guys are freshman. The Albany transfer #4 has been a bit of a disappointment considering the hype he was getting. Landon Jackson, Rhodes, and Nico are all basically good for 1 or 2 plays a game and that's about it. The rest of the time they are ineffective at least at getting to the QB. Seems like a roster management issue. Reminds me of Bert taking a dozen TEs none of which could run, block, or catch. Instead of putting a freshman in that spot it seems like we would have had a DT that could slide over to DE but go look at who would that be coming from this roster filled with nearly 400lb DTs that literally can't wipe their asses.
PIttman is the among the idiots that allowed a fake field goal instead of going for it it or attempting a makeable FG in a dome environment.
Anyway yes it's all Pittman's fault for putting this roster together. To me the tape shows we are putting guys in a position to succeed and they aren't making the plays and they aren't able to overcome some of the horrible coaching decisions in a close game. A little more execution would go a long way toward deodorizing some of the dumb decisions at least in the games we should at least be competitive in like the A&M game.

The issue should be perceived pressure. Aggy by the film had pressure on Green 38%. Green perceived pressure on 98% of pass plays. Fucks with his mind and mechanics.
When they did get pressure they were hitting him before he could take a step. Blowing up the handoff was impressive as hell.

It's getting harder and harder to pick out one instance that aggravates you more than the rest. Maybe it's because we have two great coordinators and still are making bad decisions... such as not calling a TO to get the abused third-string DE out of the game.

I don't know if that's a terrible decision on its face, but it was the wrong decision. Some coaches have a knack for making the right decision even if it appears to be risky or ill advised, Sam's decisions always turn out to be wrong.
If you remember we pinned them on less than the one yard line with a ridiculously good punt. But one play and a penalty later, they are on the fifteen or twenty yard line.

I think it's extremely difficult to go for it on 4th and 8 with a defense that had played reasonably well most of the game apart from the last drive where we put in backups on the defensive line as part of a point shaving effort.

No, this just provides more evidence that Sam is a proven habitual loser, incapable of doing anything remotely associated with winning football. He just lucked into getting paid well to fail.
Well sure, with the hindsight of another month. Back when I posted that, we had just looked good in a losing effort. I was trying to find some optimism. But now all life seems to have been sucked out...again.

You could see the progression and development of the offense through the 2008 season.
After a rocky first half of the season where we almost lost to both Western Illinois and ULM and getting the shit kicked out of us by Bama, Texas, and Florida, we turned a corner mid-season.
We beat a ranked Auburn team, lost to Kentucky and Ole Miss by a combined total of 4 points, beat a ranked Tulsa team, lost one score games against both South Carolina and State, and then beat LSU.
