Tennessee -14
The Hogs are riding a three game winning streak vs the Vols. Both of my alma maters. I hate Tennessee. This will be the upset of the weekend. Your game commentary is welcome.
I picked out Laura's hot black dress this. Morning before I dropped her off.
I'll still take Tera.

Laura wore that dress really well.
But yeah, gimme Tera.

Yeah when she does her Saturday morning "going to work" posts she always looks great. Bobby's head coaching contract next year is going to need a clause preventing him from trying to hire her as a recruiting coordinator.

Hopefully the defense is not as soft as smooth peanut butter to help them lap it up any easier today.
Someone is flying a Tennessee banner around the stadium.
NM. It is a High Noon banner.
Per the ESPN ticker, Tennessee with an 82% chance of victory.
In what world do we have an 18% chance to win? I feel like we're down around "so you're saying there's a chance" territory.

Nice first play
Jackson should have bounced outside there.
Nice strike down the middle.
Good throw by Green.
OL giving Green time to throw.
Good to see Hasz running
Hey, Hasz made a catch and didn't get hurt when tackled!!!!
We seem to be fired up
Dub running hard. Another nice run.
Always like seeing a timeout on your opening drive. Love killing that momentum.
Good crowd
That was ass.
Go for it.
Great playcall
Love that we're actually opening up holes on the line
Someone want to tell the ref to move his fat fucking ass
Great play call.
Ugh
Every. Damn. Time.
Once again, our offensive line doesnt forget to fuck up and cost us 5 yards. That right there is the reason you fire Pit Tits
Braun is fucking retarded
It's ok. We were too close.
First bad throw for Green
Well fuck
Damn
Terrible throw by green.
I would have liked to see us go for it there.

Stupid false start.

1st time Tenn has trailed this year. Hang the moral victory banner!
That drive is the perfect summation of why we lose close games after close games under Pittman. We have the talent. We aren't losing because we have some massive talent gap. We lose because we make fucking retarded plays when they hurt the most. Complete and total lack of discipline and mental toughness and it starts from the top. It isn't a fluke, it is a trend over years and it will not get fixed while he is the head coach.
Well, shit
Quote from: Hogfan58 on Oct 05, 2024, 07:04 PM1st time Tenn has trailed this year. Hang the moral victory banner!

Well fuck.
Oh great. Thats very arknasas of us.
Please get that mic away from those two fucks!
Every. Damn. Time.
Tennessee shook
Big play here
Once again our D is playing lights out.
Offense needs to match their intensity
That'll work
Big hold by the receiver. Spun out guy around when he grabbed him.
Big sack!
He don't like the pressure.
What's with the students wearing Burger King crowns?
Any chance we will ever see a punt return again? Fucking loser mentality.
That Armskrong, he pretty salty.
Another underthrow or Armstrong would have gotten a lot more yards
There's the blocking we all know and loathe lol.
Not a great throw but it worked.
Armstrong he a baller
Nice throw and catch and YAC. Armstrong is so good.
Fucking Broden
Shoulda had that
Broden fuucking sucks
Why throw to Broden?
The line is doing a great job opening holes. Green is being efficient. Nice job so far.

Vandy had every opportunity to collapse in the 2nd half from the Bama onslaught. That was great coaching today; Vandy executed their offense and continued to score. They had zero fear when Bama got close and they put their foot on their neck and drove the sword in. They were disciplined. Smart, didn't make stupid mistakes. And won a masterpiece of a game.
No doubt as we've seen over and over that Sam is a horrific head coach in every way. I would fire him right now on the sideline, give twill the interim job, and get to work.

My heart hurts.
Defense has done all they could.
This won't matter since we can't execute a forward pass.
Coverage has really tightened down the last couple possessions. The defense has nothing to hang its head about tonight.

Why the fuck are we waiting for the 2:00, instead of pushing it. Fuck!

We're going into conservative mode for a FG. Maybe one of those plays turns into a TD, maybe not, but you know Sam is going to play it safe.
Which means a TE is about to sneak down the seam and get outside a safety.

So I did the math here, so y'all wouldn't have to. With this being win number four, all we need are a home win against Louisiana Tech and any one of the other five games on the schedule to make it to six and secure a bowl game.

I told my brother this last night — Braylen Russell is who we hoped Broderick Green, Kody Walker, and every other "big back" we've had would actually be.
That was a great win. They showed a lot of grit and heart. Honestly, when they went up 14-3, I thought we'd end up like Meek Mills at a Puffy party.
That's the thing about this win that was so improbable.
It's one thing to come out with our piss hot and jump out to a big lead on a team (like we did Texas in 2021 or Ole Miss in 2014).
This was completely different. We were down 14-3 in the 4th quarter with zero offense and a paper thin defense against arguably the best offense in college football, and somehow came back to score 13 straight to gut out a win with our backup QB.

That's what I thought too. We've seen this movie... but somehow, our guys decided to win instead of trying to lose. I think Singleton, if he settles a bit (and we don't have shit snaps), I think he's a better pocket passer than Green. The ball gets out on time.
I think the big take away, though, is that the team managed to actually finish. Even when we lost Green, normally dudes crumble the second we're behind on the scoreboard or lose a valuable teammate. I hope this is a new trend.
And with our win, we were overshadowed by Vandy's win over #1. College football...nothing better. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day.
On another note. We also owe the fans a lot. They showed up and seemed to stay loud as hell the whole time, and that definitely helped screw up TN's O line. Those penalties helped!
6th largest crowd ever. that's attendance not tickets sold.
not bad considering the disappointment they have been served.

Agreed. I've shit on our lack of a home field advantage a lot, but our crowd was nuts last night and affected the game.

One of the biggest plays of the game was Singleton's 1st down completion to Sategna on the final drive.
It was just a 13 yard completion but it got the ball in Vol territory and instilled some confidence. Then Russell had his two runs, and it was all she wrote.

Same thing against Texass back in 21. Crowd really helped a lot. In this case, though, we didn't jump out to a big lead and kept faltering instead of scoring. But the crowd stayed in it even when we were down 14-3. Or so it seemed to me.

probably unnoticed, but our 2nd string kicker kicked it thru the end zone after our TD not allowing a return. and not disappointed in the playcall for the 2 pt. conversion, thought he was gonna make it.
Who was the former player on the big screen in the 4th quarter? I'm guessing a player from the 80's by age?
One thing that worried me a little was that our three rushing defensive linemen were absolutely gassed in the fourth quarter. I am surprised Tenn didn't try to run against them more. Great win. Hopefully we can rest up this week, heal, and play hard the rest of the year.

Armstrong had 9 grabs for 132 against a TOP 5 opponent might have been more if Green doesn't go down. Anyway he's really developed into a real weapon. Probably not an NFL guy...not sure he's got the wheels. But he's turned into a helluva college player. I've always thought of him as kind of a Jevontee Herndon type guy and oh by the way Herndon played for 5 or 6 years in the NFL.

I didn't watch a helluva lot of this game but I understand they had a reserve DT playing at TE in some packages to help set the edge. No idea who that guy is.

Part of it is the fact that they wear the same number, but Armstrong reminds me a lot of Anthony Eubanks. Not super fast, but fast enough and always open. Has a knack for finding his way to wherever his QB might throw it.

The Hogs are riding a three game winning streak vs the Vols. Both of my alma maters. I hate Tennessee. This will be the upset of the weekend. Your game commentary is welcome.
I would have gotten away with this if it hadn't been for those meddling Commodores.
i think armstrong will get a look at the next level. there's still a place for a possession receiver if he can block.
i'm sure the stat is out there somewhere but he has to lead the sec in catches for 1st downs.
Outside of Burks, he has the best hands of a receiver we've had in quite some time.
Yes, I'm a huge Petrino fan so maybe biased, but I think that having him and likely the DC (though I don't know much about him) is helping with their confidence. In close games, the winner is often decided by who hopes they will win vs who Thinks/KNOWS they will win. I think under Sam, we have hoped to win a lot while the other team was expecting to win. Petrino is a fucking winner and that confidence spreads.
Just thinking back to when he was HC and the players talking about TD plays that they fully expected to score on when the play was called. When that happens, you execute because you are going to score. That type of mentality helps a ton to play loose but exact.
I'm not a fan of Sam, but I think if we can keep things going without a huge disaster, we could be really set up well for next year, even if Sam is still the coach if we keep the staff in place.

He made at least one great block, on that swing pass to Sategna in motion.
He's better than Jevonte Herndon for sure. He reacts fast so he plays faster than his straight line and can make some breakaway plays.
He made two incredible catches against tight coverage from McCoy, who is considered one of the best in the country.

Just off the top of my head, we had four possessions where the offense or special teams completely flipped field position from DEEP in our own territory, twice with long drives (one was the last touchdown) and twice with long punts.

Twill is gone after this season if this defense stays stout. Deservedly so. Hard for a young man to stick when he gets shown opportunities. He needs to be our coach next season as he's built a culture in spite of Sam's fucking kindergarten ways. BMFP would likely stay as the OC; I don't think he wants all the hassles. Sam needs to announce retirement and elevate twill now. If he leaves most of the d players will go with him if it's a decent program.

I'm as much of a BMFP simp as anyone... and think it's odd that T-Will is getting so much love in the media for yesterday while the offense seems relatively ignored... but T-Will would be a bigger loss for the program. I'd love BMFP back as head coach (he should already be) but I'd be nearly as happy with T-Will as the head coach if he's willing to keep someone with BMFP's experience around to learn from.
OU has a really good defense but they gave up 25 at home to this Tennessee team.
Back to the offense, we tripled their allowed rushing yardage.
First time in a long time I've seen an Arkansas team rally around an injured teammate like they did, on both sides of the ball.
It's also good (but not) to see Yurachek throwing himself in front of cameras and mics like he had something to do with the win. It's like #Integrity Long but without the shitty reputation of firing a successful coach.

Tennessee's high-flying offense — and Playoff hopes — grounded in loss to Arkansas
David Ubben
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The fans spilled onto the field by the hundreds.
Tennessee did what it could to get off the field, burrowing through an avalanche of students to reach the locker room after getting upset 19-14 at Arkansas. Receiver Squirrel White was one of the last stone-faced Vols to escape the sidelines, his right arm hanging in a black sling after a late-game injury as police escorted him through celebrating fans.
A few minutes later, adding insult to injury, "Rocky Top" blared over the stadium speakers.
Tennessee's record? Blemished.
Its high-flying offense? Grounded.
Its College Football Playoff hopes? Bruised.
In the new world of college football and an expanded, 12-team Playoff, these are injuries that can heal, but the Vols still have Georgia and Alabama ahead, to say nothing of an improving Florida team next week that's beaten them 17 times in the last 19 meetings.
"(Coach Josh Heupel) said it: We've still got everything ahead of us. We've still got all our goals ahead of us," said quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who completed 17 of 29 passes for 158 yards.
It was a season-low for yards and the first time he'd completed less than 60 percent of his passes in a start. It was also the first time he was held without a touchdown pass.
Mathematically, it's true that the Volunteers' goals are still ahead of them. The College Football Playoff committee has consistently shown it cares far more about who teams beat than who beats them, so a loss to Georgia or Alabama could ultimately mean more than this loss to Arkansas — because either would be a missed opportunity at a win over a likely top 10 team.
But a loss to Arkansas and a points factory that suddenly ceased operation when it came face to face with a defense ranked 55th nationally in yards per play brings into question what early season wins over NC State (now 3-3 and 0-2 in the ACC) and Oklahoma mean in retrospect, and if Arkansas provided some answers to future opponents for how to slow down the Vols.
"I didn't think we did the ordinary things at a high level offensively," Heupel said. "Starting with me, it wasn't good enough tonight."
Tennessee managed just one completion longer than 20 yards on 29 attempts.
"We weren't going to let them get behind us if we could help it," Arkansas coach Sam Pittman said.
Saturday, Iamaleava looked like a first-year starter making his second career road start, missing on a handful of makeable throws and most frustratingly, scrambling for a short gain on the game's final play when Tennessee needed 20 yards and six points to win.
"You gotta get the ball up and give one of your guys an opportunity to go make a play. Nico, just like me and the rest of our football team, wishes we had played better," Heupel said. "That situation, you can't keep the ball in your hands."
Earlier in the day, Alabama lost at Vanderbilt a week after handing Georgia its first loss.
Texas, which sat idle on Saturday and prepared for a Red River Showdown against Oklahoma next week, is now the only undefeated SEC team.

Arkansas upsets No. 4 Tennessee: What it means for Vols' Playoff hopes
Tennessee, if it managed to win as a two-touchdown favorite, could have joined the Longhorns as the two teams with the inside track to the SEC Championship Game and a massive pathway to the 12-team Playoff.
Instead, it's left wondering what happened in a shocking loss after showcasing nothing but dominance through the season's first month and ascending from No. 15 to No. 4 in the AP poll.
Offensively, Arkansas controlled the first half with long, sustained drives, but also drives that ended with turnovers on downs. The Razorbacks got inside Tennessee's 25-yard line three times in the first half but went to halftime with just a 3-0 lead. After each team's first three drives, Arkansas had run 35 plays. Tennessee had run 14.
The Razorbacks rallied after falling behind 14-3 when Tennessee scored on its first two drives of the second half and threatened to reverse their early game fortunes. The Vols didn't score again.
Running back Dylan Sampson, who put Tennessee on the board on the opening drive of the second half and finished with 138 yards and two scores on 22 carries, suggested that the team wasn't focused enough during the bye week.
Heupel pointed to a 3-3-5 alignment from defensive coordinator Travis Williams that Arkansas hadn't shown on tape yet this season and caught Tennessee off guard. Williams brought his idea to Pittman on Sunday night as they prepped a game plan and began practicing it on Monday. It couldn't have worked better.
The offensive line gave up a season-high four sacks, had four false starts and the offense added an illegal snap and a delay of game.
Whatever the reason, it was evident for 60 minutes that a Tennessee team with a paved path to the Playoff wasn't good enough in a difficult road game in front of 75,573, the sixth-biggest crowd to ever watch a game in Fayetteville.
Tennessee became the fifth top-15 team to lose on Saturday and the first top-five team to go down at Arkansas since 1999. That team? Tennessee, fresh off its last national title.
"When it was over, I was thinking about how proud the state of Arkansas is for their football team," Pittman said. "That's the only damn reason, well, it's not the reason I took the job, but that's one of the top reasons I came here. I wanted to make the state proud of the team."
Pittman waited in Arkansas' tunnel as his team left the pandemonium on the field for a more exclusive party in the locker room. Williams caught Pittman's eye and smiled wide as the two shared a hug.
Almost 30 minutes later, Iamaleava emerged from Tennessee's locker room in a gray hoodie and Tennessee shorts and made his way onto the field to spend some time with his waiting family. His father gave him a long hug and for more than a minute, spoke quietly in his ear.
"When moments like this happen, the outside world is going to have a narrative for you," Heupel said. "We talk about it when it's going good. Tonight it didn't go good. You've gotta look your teammates in the eye. Those are the opinions that matter."
Technically, that's true.
But in the Playoff-dominated world of college football, the 13 committee members are actually the only opinions that matter.
And on Saturday, Tennessee's performance reshaped how those 13 committee members view the Vols.

I never even considered this...

Could certainly be considered an assault, if not just plain negligence. If the kid pushed got hurt, no reason not to sue that I can think of.

Get the feeling we are about to pay up to keep this guy.
Thus far, I'd support it.

Adrenaline is a helluva drug and they're (players) still pumping it. And they are trained athletes of elite size and athleticism. I have no problem with that. FAFO
I just rewatched it, assuming the whole time we were Shirley going to find a way to lose it this time. But I'll be damned...we won again.
God bless this defense. But Tennessee did so many dumb things that we typically do to lose it, too. I empathize with their fans.
I tried to enjoy it last night but the fact that we're not 6-0 makes it bittersweet.

They were talking about this dude on the radio this morning. It appears he was fighting our fans on Dickson.
I think it is safe to say that we have a nice staff.....Petrino just does an immaculate job of placing our kids in uber positions to be successful....Jackson is a tremendous back...great vision...more physical than Alex Collins, but not as quick with the feet or hip swivel......And that Russell kid is just a beast...Williams has done a great job with getting the kids to buy in...schematically, as well as belief...the front seven play hard and are down hill......
Again,
Green completes 55-60% of his passes, and we can play with anyone...

I suspect he will never return to Fayetteville.

He fucked around and found out. I hope he had to go to work with his bloodstained face .
I will say this. I hope fucking Preston Watts is suffering more in hell. I hope Danny Rhodes and other great players who suffered that horrible 71 season, who then had that Liberty bowl stolen from them get a bit of satisfaction.
Based on Yuri's comments I think Sam is back next season.

I don't think we need Yurachek or anyone else to comment to know that coming into the season, 6-6 or better is a bowl and retained, 5-7 or worse is fired. Still to be determined, but certainly looking better.

Sam basically won the game he needed to have the inside track on a bowl game. If he blows it vs La Tech or Miss St and we miss a bowl, then all options are back on the table.
At the end of the day, HY is still the AD and part of his job is standing by the coach until the moment before he fires him.
Personally, I'm frustrated that the excitement about beating #4 at home in a big night game is reduced to "we're probably going to a bowl!" You'd think a win like that would carry much bigger implications for our program, but we've fallen very far in 12 years.

Yeah we're not likely going to drop to 4-7 and 5-8 is mathematically impossible so any buy-out won't be discounted.
So we may as well win the whole fucking thing.

Agreed. This team going 6-6 and going to a shit bowl is a failure. This defense should steal an extra win or two if offense stupidity, bad coaching decisions, or dumb penalties don't kill us.
Sam cannot change. BMFP will stay but TWill is likely gone. I don't like that prospect. Sam needs to evolve from CEO coach to remote CEO coach. Stay in hot springs for games. Let the c's run their games. Watch some Netflix.
I'm disappointed no one picked up on my comments about fucking Preston Watts. You've never seen a sec rep fucking like that one. Rhodes and ther players supposedly chased him out of the stadium.

It's because while we still feel the exuberance of the win, we know all too well that Sam has a penchant for fucking something like this up and not keeping his team focused.
My mind goes back to 2022. Going into week 10 we were 5-3 coming off wins at BYU and at Auburn. We then stumblefuck our way to a loss against Liberty, and end the season losing 3 of our last 4, only making a bowl game because we somehow managed to summon the give-a-shit to jump all over Ole Miss.
Sam's almost worse than Nutt in his penchant for beating teams he shouldn't and losing to teams he shouldn't because he overlooks games. Hell, he overlooked UAB and they're an absolute dumpster fire.
I'm glad we have a bye week this week to calm our asses down and refocus on our next opponent, otherwise we'd have absolutely lost to LSU in a classic letdown situation.

I'm not so sure that the bye week is a good or bad thing. Almost feels like the guys now have enough time to forget how to win.
Of course, if Green is going to be out it does give Singleton some much needed prep and practice with the 1s.
Yeah, I'm glad for the bye and rhe next game being LSU. Hard to overlook them. Now, my prediction is that we beat LSU, get ranked, and lose by two touchdowns to MSU.

Meh, the bye comes at a good time so the team can get refocused. They're going to have people kissing their asses all week and telling them how great they are.
Plus, to your point, the good thing about the bye is that it either gives Green time to get healthy or Singleton reps with the 1s.
I love my Tennessee classmates. I have a biennial recertification that I always take with one of them. Trying to work out the logistics this week.

In 2022 we didn't have a Bobby though. Now we do.
