LSU -2.5
Fair, 72F
It's going to be a beautiful day for football. I'm a little surprised at the line against a top 10 team. Move the chains some and get the D off the field some and I like our chances. Probably boil down to turnovers.
We rushing the field again?
Let's GO

Lol they're already not going to call holding
First play uncovered blitz meant nothing when it was an easy throw to the other side.
We getting gashed so far.
Did one of our guys just tackle a guy after the play and celebrate the hit?
They must have seen something to throw to the right on our defense. 3/3 and all of them extremely easy.
Maybe stop giving 8 yard cushions on these passes
Nussmeier picking us apart in the flats
That was a good PI play.
Well... that was an easy PI call to make
Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Oct 19, 2024, 06:09 PMThey must have seen something to throw to the right on our defense. 3/3 and all of them extremely easy.
Plus PI.
Had to interfere after getting beat
Defense had already given up.
Defense playing like they spent the last 2 weeks reading their press clippings.
2 flags already. First was understandable but why hit the QB there??
LSU is absolutely dominating the LOS
This was to be expected after the coverage started by talking about how this defense was playing for their DC who is a rising star among coaching ranks. Just hope the offense can keep up until this settles down.
That was not a very good showing on defense.

Nice D
Derp derp derp
Man I can't stand LSU fans
That was an absolute embarrassment of an opening drive.
Made us look like bitches.
This is what happens when people say good things about any aspect of the team on game days. The lauded D just got methodically carved up and did a whole lot of nothing to stop anything.
This is what happens when Pittman spends every waking hour telling the keeds how great they are and how good this team is.
Bobby will have us score in 4 of plays
Calling it right now - if the offense doesn't put points on the board this drive, this will be a repeat of the 2016 Auburn ass kicking.
Backing them up 20+ yards then letting them RUN it in on the next play is an embarrassment of epic proportions.
Can we get a second camera that just focuses on those cheerleaders for the whole game?
Did half our OLine just forget to move on the snap?
Damn it, Green had two receivers to throw it to for 6

I don't understand going for the FG there. We needed to keep the downfield momentum going.
Oh well we can see how this one is going to go.

To be fair, we're making up for that by not stopping their running game either.
Right now they're playing us on Freshman mode and just going down instead of taking chunk yards.
Pretty much everything they're doing on offense is working so far.
Might as well prepare our anii.
Welp, back to not giving a shit. We seem to do better when I take that attitude anyway.
Fucking 9 yard cushion on D
Our defense is passing the "boiled egg test" with flying colors so far.
I'd rather a running down than a passing down
3rd and 1 or 3rd and 6, doesn't matter to LSU
Our we playing for our DC or LSU's DC?
Now that was a bad hold
Pretty blatant holds on every play. Holy fucking shit.
Well, I think we all know how this game is going to go... Everybody sucking off the Defense, and now they couldn't stop grandma or get pressure if LSU's OL literally stood still.
It's the Sam curse. Whenever we do well, he spends the next week (or two in this case) sucking his own dick and reading the press clippings instead of getting the team ready.

I wouldn't have even been mad if he had caught that
Their offense has been better defense than our defense has...
They're picking on Slaughter big tine.
This is the best offense we've played all year, maybe the best we WILL play this year.
Their D is soft, so it's imperative that we score here, because our only hope is that we "bend but don't break"
Welp

No such thing here. Not after we lost the Aggy game by getting caught with our second team defense on the field in a game-deciding drive and weren't smart enough to call a timeout to fix that.

Their WRs are breaking a shit load of tackles on those 5 yard out routes.

13 is a little bitch.
How many pass interferences is that now? Four? Five?
That's the way the world goes round, one minute your up, the next your down, it's a half an inch of water and you think your gonna drown, that's the way that the world goes round.

I know you didn't ask me but they really still hold onto the 9th in potential that was written for Broyles to say when Nutt was coach.
I'm not lying. When we had game day in 2006 it was "so much extra work than normal". That was actually said to me.
After Royal stepped down at Texas he told fans they ought to be happy just going to a bowl game.
I think a lot of the older guys didn't want to see Arkansas successful unless it was from someone handpicked or that viewed them as important. Outsiders would have more pull and it would become their program.
Quote from: mde114 on Oct 19, 2024, 09:48 PMI'm a YoutubeTV guy but I just can't watch that multi screen.
Yeah, they used to have just two but now that's not an option.
I believe Yuri wants football to not entirely drown. I don't think he's really concerned that we aren't competing for national championships or even top tier bowl games. I think he'd be good with 6 to 9 wins and go home. Hell I'd be pretty ok with it at this point at least for a while.
Football most of my life has been all about selling an idea or a dream to people and failing to deliver. When that idea/dream becomes abundantly clear that we're not idealing or dreaming hard enough...a change is made. In comes the new coach and we're suddenly back to HOPE.
Since joining the SEC we've had two coaches that flirted with legit national championship caliber teams, being Nutt's team that fell apart after the Stoernover and Petrino's 2011 bunch. Nutt benefited from Bama sanctions for western div co-champions of the world. Other than that it's been mostly turd sandwiches. I think we all feel Petrino might have done great things had it not been for one tiny weakness. I like Bert but he was a horrendous hire coming from Petrino, Chad was worse. Pittman is what you get after making two prior horrendous hires.
When Pittman was hired I think a good many people's reaction was that if nothing else he can build the program back and make it a more attractive job for the next guy. That may still prove true but that was really PRE-NIL thinking. Now that you can really fast track a rebuild the game has changed to one of player personnel management and talent acquisition thru making sure you got the bank roll. Typically Arkansas goes and tells everyone that will listen that we're broke. So that's a super duper way of getting the best talent. You are literally telling them not to come here. Tiny Arkansuk strikes again from people paid million+ to act like they know what the fuck they are doing.
Quote from: Thin Red Swine on Oct 19, 2024, 09:52 PMYeah, they used to have just two but now that's not an option.

College football is totally turned upside down this season. You have teams that were in the basement and they are doing good right now. Meanwhile, Arkansas is exactly the same. We are stuck in suspended animation. When the SEC is tough we are the same. When it's down we are the same.
We hired a basketball coach and made headlines. We just won't do that for football always taking shortcuts. The one time we didn't do that we had a guy take us to 11-2.

Hard to get yards when you don't have the ball. Defense was giving LSU a free 7 yards all night. They took it. Kept the ball away. Not saying the offense was anything to brag about, but defense was a total turd.

It's one of those games where offense and defense equally sucked.
Offense kept stomping on its dick with turnovers in our territory. We folded like a bad poker hand anytime we set foot in their territory.
Defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd down, cover their receivers (especially in the flats), manufacture pressure, or tackle well.
This isn't a T-Will or Bobby thing. Both of their squads sucked ass tonight.
As I said many times during the game, we looked like a team that spent the last two weeks taking it easy, reading our press clippings, and getting our asses kissed. That's a hallmark of she Pittman era. Instead of enjoying the Tennessee win for 24 hours and then refocusing on the next opponent, we dwelled on it and milked the hell out of it.

And this is the key. Everyone wants to win. But the greats, including predementia JFB, Jimmy Johnson, Bear Bryant, Saban, Belichik have a far larger fear and loathing of losing. That is what drives their winning ways.
So while everyone wants to win, most are not willing to do the extra work to actually do it. And losing begats more losing as complacency takes root. The players get paid and laid whether they win or lose. The coaches don't get fired, the big $ parties invites still come, the media still fawns for access. Losing ain't so bad. We tried hard. The kids are really fine young men. Yada yada yada. Losers.

Well put. It's been obvious that no one on the staff demands excellence from the players and that has to be because no one in the AD's office or higher demands excellence from the staff. Demanding excellence means having to jump up their ass when they don't perform, and we just can't be doing that to these keeids who are playing hard football.
We want some close games, we want to even win one of those close games against a "big" team once in awhile, but otherwise we want to leave the starters in a losing effort so we can claim that they played hard to the final whistle. They think the fans are retarded bags of money. Yurachek has more fun telling fans to donate to put Slobberhog back on the basketball court - something he should have done anyway - than he does telling the coaches to put a product on the field that fans will want to donate to.

10 games into year one when he was sitting at 4-6 and that wasn't good enough.
They fired Joe Moorhead after he went 8-5 and 6-7.
Meanwhile, we're talking about 6-6 or even 5-7 being good enough to save Pittman's job after 3 consecutive bad years.
We need to face facts that State is a better program than we are now. Better recent history, higher expectations, better recruiting footprint, and better recent coaching hires (Mullen > Bert, Moorhead > Chad, Leach > Pittman).

I was thinking about it, and I don't think a coach has ever squatted on the field and pushed out more turds in Fayetteville than Pittman.
I mean sure, Morris did, but you didn't expect much. Nutt was here twice as long so there was a bigger sample size. Bert laid some turds, but he had some big wins too.
But Pittman, with the exception of year two with Texas a couple others, and Tennessee this year it seems like we ALWAYS play bad at home. And it's bad because we play well enough on the road in close losses against superior teams or win to get our hopes up, and then we just come out and shit the bed at home.
So like you, it just isn't worth it anymore to go through all the hassle of one of the longest four hour drives on earth, the expense, the hangovers, the feeling like you have a hangover even if you didn't drink, and everything else else just to see us dependably put out one of the worst efforts of the year. Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Oct 21, 2024, 09:22 AMArkansas seems to be the only school in the SEC afraid to fire a bad coach because we might get worse.
That's our media and administration's M.O.
Remember all the threats from Chuck, Bo, Sunshine Rick, et al. during the Nutt era about "who you gonna get that's better?!"
Quite literally the only time firing a coach for losing has backfired on us was firing Bert, and that was only because our boosters sold out to get Gus and got pantsed by him and Sexton and went with the laziest hire imaginable instead of reopening the search.
- Ford was an upgrade from Crowe
- Nutt was an upgrade from Ford
- Petrino was an upgrade from Nutt
- Pittman was an upgrade from Morris (granted, the bar was on the floor)
- almost anyone will be an upgrade over Pittman

We went on a 7 night, Saturday-to-Saturday cruise over Thanksgiving week last year, so I missed the last two games of the season.
Not only did I not watch the last two games, including the Mizzou embarrassment, I couldn't even check scores or get on here.
It was amazing.
We met some Arkansas friends for a nice long dinner last night - not one mention of the game.
Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Oct 21, 2024, 09:35 AMI was thinking about it, and I don't think a coach has ever squatted on the field and pushed out more turds in Fayetteville than Pittman.
Whether it's underestimating and failing to prepare for a Liberty or UAB, or pissing down our legs against LSU, count me out. I'm not even going to plan my Saturdays around watching them on TV anymore. I'm deer hunting, playing golf, cleaning my garage...whatever. I'll turn on the TV and check from time to time. Nutt usually shit the bed against lesser conference opponents, but to his credit he usually beat the non-conference teams he was supposed to beat (UNLV and Minnesota in bowl games excepted).
I'm at the point where I almost want to just punt the football program. Keep Sam until his contract runs out, and replace him with someone else who will work cheap. Send the NIL to basketball and baseball, and funnel any extra windfalls from the media rights deal to those sports for facility improvements and the like. Spend the money to be elite in the sports where we are willing and able to compete for championships, and ignore the one where we either can't or won't do what is needed to succeed.
Before the Tennessee game I actually heard from a friend whose wife is work buddies with someone who is best friends with Pittman's wife that he bad been told that he was out if he lost to Tennessee. I know my friend wasn't lying about what he and his wife had been told, but I don't know the lady who claims to be friends with Sam's wife. So, I can't judge it that well.
She also said Sam was pretty much ready to go anyway. Losing to Tennessee wouldn't have put him below .500 and reduced his buyout, so maybe the will to move on is there. So, obviously Tennessee bought him some time, but his highly anticipated shit show this weekend may have made MSU a make or break game for him.
That's about all the hope I have for this team and season.

No, football isn't that hard. We are a few turnovers and some boneheaded plays from being 6-1 and in the playoff hunt right now. There are no dominant teams in the SEC this year. They all seem capable of having bad games and playing down to opponents. NIL means you can have a different team every year and flip it on a dime. We CAN compete. We just have to believe we can and act like we should.

The better solution would be to quit half assing it and hire a coach as committed to making football a contender as Calipari seems to be about basketball.
He can be an up and comer, it doesn't matter. But someone who wants to make his mark on the world instead of just get a nice fat paycheck.
pittman doesn't deserve the buyout he would get by being canned right now, to suggest otherwise is retarded regardless what miss st. or any one else did. arnett's buyout was $4 mil. not the $10+ mil or so pittman would get.
any mitigation is a non factor because who is going to hire him as a hc? and at this point, as an o-line coach where his salary would make a dent in the buyout.

Well, deserving has nothing to dk with it. It is what it is. He should have been fired after last year. How he got away from the responsibility of making a bad hire in Enos is mind blowing.

I'm at the point of apathy. Really have been all year, although the near misses vs Okie Aggy and Texas Aggy combined with the Tennessee win reeled my back in a bit. It really hit home dealing with all the bullshit of getting to/from the game, dealing with the crowds, and of course the expense to watch such a shitty product.
The crowds, traffic, long drive to and from there to watch us lose, and expense. I gave up a few years ago. Now, I watch the good teams on TV and may switch to ours to check to see how bad we are losing before changing back to a good game. I don't know why the answer is but we sure don't have it.
We'll see where we are after we blow the game at MSU this weekend. It's an early game and they are an improving team who will be looking at us as w chance to win a game and show how much they are improving.
I'm going to call it now, we either win fairly easily or we lose by two or more touchdowns. If we have a couple or three turnovers as usual, they are going to be fired up and jump all over us.
Quote from: Ray Zorback on Oct 21, 2024, 10:22 AMIt goes back to Youracheck giving him a contract with a big buyout. WHY!!! nobody was going to come after him.
Because he's a performative jackass who knows nothing about being AD for a major college program.
The coach he was negotiating with quite literally said publicly "I'm not going anywhere" yet he still got played for a lifetime contract.
What has Yurachek done? Hire Muss? Stay out of DVH's way? Cal was all Tyson, and even that feels analogous to A&M hiring Jimbo. He got pantsed by Sexton and Kiffin, struck out with everyone, and hired an OL coach.

my comments were to those saying he needs to be canned today. it's stupid and the money matters because it's not going to happen unless a big dick or two are willing to pay up and there's no indication that's a possibility as of today. looks like the house case is going to reach a settlement and $22 million to the players, $10-12 to pittman (if fired today), plus the cost of the next guy, means money matters.

If he loses out the buyout is reduced. Even one win keeps it at the same rate.
The only way I'd advocate an in-season firing is before the Missouri game if we lose the next four. At that point he'd probably gone anyway. Don't give him a chance to win one more for the extra $4MM.
Firing him midseason doesn't benefit us. It's not like we are going to hire a sitting HC or coordinator before December.

I think actually it does, with the way NIL and all that works and the transfer portal. You need to have someone hired and hitting the ground running immediately after the season. Not that we will, but the days of waiting around to the end are going to be over for programs that know they want to make a change.

Unless you hire someone who isn't already employed you can't pull that off.

His pregame speeches are terrible, and he's been using the same ones for years.
Home games - "they filled this stadium up because they believe in the team, believe you're gonna win"
Away games - "3 hours, play for the name on the front of the jersey and the name on the back."

I'm not as worried about the offense being overcome with quit. Petrino won't suffer that shit and Green is by all accounts a better leader than KJ (though the bar was on the floor).
The defense is what I worry about. There's not a lot of true leadership on that side of the ball. After they held their own against Bama, Ole Miss and Mississippi State last year, they folded up and laid a turd against Florida, Auburn, and Mizzou.
Like I said, I expect MSU to play really really well as that they are improving and really looking at this game as their last realistic chance to get a conference win. With a brand new coach, they are still hopeful and have something to prove. I don't think our team is in the same spot with Sam.
Petrino was pretty good with the sorts of trap games. There were several times we started out flat but found ways to gut it out and win. Vanderbilt comes to mind. Sam has been the exact opposite. Let's see if having BMFP on staff makes a difference.

We'll beat Tech unless the team is in full on quit mode, so 5-7 might do it. Lose to State and still finishing 6-6 would mean we beat 1 of Ole Miss, Texas, and Mizzou.

I think if we had beaten OK St, and still lost to A&M/LSU, fans would be a lot less furious. We'd be 5-2 with a top 5 win and two loses to the top two teams in the conference this year. We'd be talking about how much better our offense will be next year after Bobby's had another year to improve things, etc.
But we didn't beat OSU. We lost. We gave up a big lead and wilted like daisies in july. We lost to one of the worst B12 teams this year, when we absolutely should have beaten them.
So we're 4-3 when we should be 5-2. It's only a one game difference, but it's justifiable fury, imo.

Would we have gotten what? The call was made on the field and replay confirmed it, by the written aspect of the rule. Checked all the boxes. It was clearly targeting and it 100% should have been upheld. Go back and watch Broden's head and neck on that hit.

Score a TD there and we are down two points at half and getting the ball first.
Maybe if we weren't digging out of such a hole we wouldn't have abandoned the run game which was working in the rare instances where we tried it AND held onto the ball. Which means maybe we keep their offense off the field a little longer and have a chance to make a play at the end to win versus quitting at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The targeting followed by an equally bad no call for PI on the next play essentially ended our chances of ever getting back in the game and killed our spirit.
Yes quantum causation is a real thing. Not scoring there and a ant hill in Africa causes a damn to break in China killing thousands, god kills a kitten etc.
We'll never know what could have happened if we score there. Likely we would have been down two at half. Maybe that gives us enough juice to come out and put up a good fight in the 2nd. Maybe it's enough to win. We were out classed in that game so ultimately I feel like we weren't going to win but we don't know that. One thing is for sure...we didn't play anywhere near over our heads like we've shown in other games. We played like a team that knew they weren't good enough to win.

It was like the staff (both sides of the ball) game planned as if we were far outclassed. We were conceding the 5-8 yard out to keep from getting beat deep from the first snap. And we came out throwing far more than we probably should have as if we either couldn't run or knew we were going to have to score a ton to stay with them.

Was just reading some article about the move of Harris to RT and Blackstock to LG. Basically saying they had to get more athletic at tackle. Well gee fuckin wiz. We have a head coach that's specialty is OL for fucks sake. I knew that eleventy weeks ago.
Then we are protecting red shirts with 5 games to go in the season...if guy (Kutas) is healthy why not bring him out and put him on the shelf for a less important game like La Tech. That's like managing the roster for the next coach. If we make a bowl game does Kutas not count in the bowl game participating I think maybe they changed that to where you can still protect your shirt.
Braxton has a lower leg injury "lets just say"....what the fuck does that mean? He's been out most of the season why not just say what the fuck is wrong with him if you have little or no intention of playing him.
Clark gets fucking blasted at corner and the dumbass coach is like "he's earned the right to start"....loves that helmet.
Some other guy named Mitchell I've never heard of got to play at safety against LSU, transfer from Florida. Doing good things. Yada. Presumed injured but mums the word.
Really these are the comments of a coach that knows he's not going anywhere and thinks he's getting a lot of these guys back next season to mount a awesome run of maybe 9 wins.

This. And maybe we WERE outclassed. But I'd like to know for sure before we just give it to them. Maybe if we'd hit them in the mouth from the jump like we did Tenner it may have ended up differently. Who knows.

If you are going in under the assumption that you can't stop the other team and can only slow them down, why wouldn't you take the ball first instead of deferring when you won the toss?

Can't argue with that...
