I see these things advertised all the time.  Has anyone ever tried one?  If so, what is the verdict?

My original conversation with a friend they said it would take ten years to pay for itself and be worthwhile. Honestly I think the alternative for energy efficiency is a fuel efficient heat pump. Mine heats/cooks the air and water in my 1000 sqft home and my bill for gas/electric has never gone over $35 bucks in the four years I've owned my home. I just upgraded to a townhome and have not have one but will have a tankless water heater this time which should be nice and efficient as well.
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

My bad I looked at this as solar panels not a generator

Do you have gas or all electric?  According to a friend of mine who owns a plumbing supply store, you may not be happy with it if you are all electric.  Electric doesn't heat the water as hot as gas.

gas and electric...new place and my current condo. That's how most are here despite Biden going all crazy about gas stoves

Something like this is what I am talking about

I think Jackery and Bluetti are the two main brands for that type of thing. Don't have any experience with either.

DRYANKNPULL

I got one of the Jackery boxes to take camping last turkey season. You can get the solar panels to add to it. I remember the panels being very expensive and having to have them in direct sunlight for over 8 hours to charge the box. Seemed like a bad idea to leave them out at a primitive national Forrest camp site. I never ran the box down but I was just using it to charge my phone and iPad. I figured if I needed more juice than that for four days, I should just get another box or a camping generator.

Texzilla

I just started repping Bluetti.  They have them in many sizes from the car battery size to big whole home units.  You can add the solar panels which aren't cheap.
