2-3 years ago it was really hot and game times were moved back and wet bulb was common phrase.

This year, which, I think was much hotter there was none of either which really surprised me. This last 2 week stretch of heat, hopefully now over, was brutal.

The wet bulb thing combines temperature with humidity, modeling how a human can regulate temperature by sweating.  I read the OSHA standards and watched it all summer.  It has definitely been hot by temperature, but less humid than you might have thought.  In Fayetteville, the wet bulb limit only happened a couple times, and the football team did indeed go inside when it did.

I will say this as a diy weather geek. It is rare, at least in Arkansas, to both get above 95 degrees, and have humidity north of 40% in the same day. It seems like that had been every day for that last two months in NWA.

I saw it hit 100 and rain on the same day a few weeks ago.
