yeah same.....I don't go often and usually go to Target instead.

Looks like most of the aftermath and rain moved through quickly

No.  Not yet.  Of course, we arrest people for theft here.

Retailers are doing this in locales with lax prosecution of shoplifters.  San Francisco is losing chain stores daily.  Targets and Walgreens there have stores 100% in locked cabinets.  You live in libtardville so that's one of the results of the workers paradise.

it was like this pre pandemic at certain locations now it's growing. Never saw it at say west memphis Walmart but out here in low income areas where most of the Walmarts are in burbs they have had them for a while. I have no idea why Walmart keeps putting their stores in the ghetto parts of the burbs here and not in nicer parts like Target does

Quote from: Guardrail on Jul 09, 2024, 06:44 AMI think it rained 6 inches in benton last night. Holy crap.
A friend in Conway said he had over 6 inches and it was till raining as of 8 this morning.  Its actually a pleasant day(for July in SWLA) here, currently 83 with an heat index of 92.

Quote from: The Whyte Boar on Jul 09, 2024, 08:40 AMI left work a little early to buy a bunch of pool shock because I knew all the rain would destroy my pool chemistry and the pool guy would be swamped so I plan to shock the shit out of it today so that it doesn't turn green.  Anyway, I got trapped in Wal-Mart.  They shut the store down for about thirty minutes and told everyone to move to the back.  I wandered around an empty store for thirty minutes and literally shot baskets in the sports aisle.  You could leave but I parked by the automotive door and no one was there to let me out.  I would have gotten drenched it I had gone out the front, so I just waited it out.

Most pleasant big Wal-Mart experience I've had in years. lol
Yep. I treated mine this morning. First thing once the rain quit. I happened to drain about 6 inches of water out of my pool last night and it's a good thing because it was full up to the top of the skimmer inlets this morning.
The same people demanding everyone embrace your beliefs, have zero tolerance and condemn another for embracing theirs.  Oh, the irony.

I saw this in our local DFW wal-marks last week when I ran in to get some wood for the smoker.

We lost power yesterday morning at 5.  Projected to be back on later this week.

It's a mess.  It looks like a tornado hit everywhere.   Luckily not much damage to houses. But trees are everywhere.  They say it sounds like a freight train when one comes through.  It sounded like that for a solid two hours yesterday morning.

We live in Humble which is 25 miles NE of downtown on I59.   I drove 59N this morning and there wasn't power for 100 miles.  We then drove 90E to Beaumont before we found power.   It was a massive storm.   It reminded me of Ike in 2009.

We just got cell service restored.  Hopefully we get power sooner rather than later.

Good luck.  I know it is tough down there in places.

I don't blame you.  But I'll bet they aren't having any sale prices on those for a while around you.

I had one put in a couple years ago after some multi-day outages due to the janky grid in these parts.

Not so much as a flicker in the grid since.  ::)

What brand?  Assume it is Generac.  They seem to be the go-to

If you ever build a multi-level house, the way to go is install a separate breaker box and 200 amp service on the front end. That way you can power your main level, frog freezers etc and don't need as big of a generator.

A few weeks ago I met a commercial generator sales rep with Cummins while on a business trip.  One of the questions she got hit with was which residential generator was the best choice (the guys asking were from the New Orleans area and prepping for hurricanes similar to you). She said their own residential division was so far behind (over a year out) that she couldn't recommend them, but she said Kohler was a far better, more reliable choice than Generac.  Take that for what it's worth.

Generac is what I have. Good service plan and remote monitoring. Haven't needed it but (at least in this area) repair/service hot line is 24/7.

My neighborhood has a lot of whole home gens so I got a lot of opinions before buying. Generac and Kohler make up the vast majority of units installed here. Neither brand got any owner complaints in terms of reliability or longevity but I did hear several complaints about the Kohler service/maintenance. In fairness, that's likely a local dealership problem.

To be fair, the Cummins rep was an Aggie.

My sister lives in Cypress area. After the winter fuck up of the grid a couple years ago they put in a generator. This is the second time they've used it and to her it's been worth it's weight in gold. They're currently without power and sitting in the A/C.
