fuck that. I've done that once end of July and won't ever do it again. There is no amount of money I would take to do that part of the river in mid May or June when it's roaring. You can seriously get hurt if you get thrown as it's so narrow. Had a lot of friends beat up after a rafting that.

No I'm talking about golden...you can rent tubes in town and float down clear creek in town. It's nice on a hot day but I'd go during the week not the weekends. After hit up golden mill and watch off the roof deck tubers

OK, that makes sense. We rafted Clear Creek in Idaho Falls and that is a pic of us. It was pretty tough.

A woman had drowned on it in May, just before we rafted it. Section IV on the Chatooga was much worse than this. We figure when we want to end it all,we will go and do Lochsa Falls in Idaho on the Lochsa River.

nope that's next. I've driven through Durango but still wanna go back over and do also mesa verde it's just such a long ass drive from Denver.

It is a haul from Denver, but they have an airport just south of Durango that lands at least an a320...
We rented an AB&B in the hills above Durango for a few days.  Did the train up to Silverton one whole day, floated the next day I think, and I wanted to hit Mesa Verde but we ran out of time.

i had a trip planned to go down there with family a few years ago but we had to cancel because the city was awarding my mom with some lifetime achievement award and since she died before they could give it to her I had to be there to receive it. Then they canceled it because well fucking Covid. I may do that in the spring for a long weekend. I still also wanna go back and do canyoneering again at Ouray.

Rent you an MUV and ride from Ouray over to lake city and back up to Silverton.  You'll be glad you did.

Don't mention that damned train to Silverton to me.  We got on it in the middle of the summer.  Half way through, at the little stop they make, the engine abandoned us and went off with a water car to help put out a fire.  We were stuck for 5 or 6 hours.  They ran out of water, beer, and damned near everything else.  Finally got to Silverton after about 9 hours.  Had to take a bus back.  Brutal day.  The view wasn't worth it.

My son and I did float the San Juan River on that trip and caught some nice trout.

yeah hard pass on the train. I'd rather go to Ouray and just rent an atv and go to all that back country than be on a damn train. Also the cog railway at pikes peak I didn't realize was 3 hours round trip. Longest day of my life...get to the top and stuck there due to an issue and it was like 6 hours RT and windy af.

The best thing up there is getting an atv and just rolling through the back country all day or you can take the back trails to telluride from Ouray.

I 100% agree, but my sister wasn't able to ride the atv so we opted to not do that.  Her recent neck surgery made that a no-go.  The train was excellent for us.  Perfect opportunity to day drink a whole day.
That road from Lake city over to Silverton was built by a friend of mine's grandpa.  He was a cool old fucker, and during the depression he was the only person in lake county with a dozer, so the government hired him to build it.
