PA blew out Maumelle in a scrimmage last night.  I think the varsity won 42-0.

The young PA QB has a nice arm.  (Don't know his name; I'm well removed from having any idea about the kids there now)
Much better than the last couple of QB's.
PA will be better this year, but still doesn't have much size on the lines to challenge Bryant and Conway in the 7A Central.

Maumelle (old Oak Grove) is really undisciplined.  I think they jumped offside 7 or 8 times on defense.  Several times by one kid, #30, who was trying to time up the PA shotgun snap.  They got burned by a post pattern in the secondary multiple times for long gains/TD's.  Back in the day, that offside stuff would get you and the entire unit some reminder running.  Nothing makes you stay onside like peer pressure from teammates who don't like running.  Don't know if you can treat kids that harshly anymore.  They probably give you one less juice box or something at your every thirty-minute hydration break these days.
They look like a good team with size and speed, but they don't play like one.

Who's the head coach at PA now?
"Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times."

Spiderham

Mark Kelley, the former Sylvan Hills coach.  Seems like a good fit so far.  They looked well-coached, really organized, and ready.  Small on the lines, and small number of players compared to the much larger schools they play will take its toll in 7A.

Maumelle in 5A is actually twice as large as PA in 7A.  682 for Maumelle and 303 for PA.
The smallest school in 7A has 1500+ students.  The largest, Bentonville 2664 in the last reclassification.

One PA QB transferred to IMG.

PA's 303 students place them in the middle of the 4A schools between Ashdown and Clinton, number-wise.

Will Elkins win it all this year or give someone else a chance?

This Brentwood vs Baylor game on ESPN2 is very entertaining.  Lots of high level commits on both sides.

Apparently there is a bit of an uproar in Sheridan football. There is an ex Bryant football player that was involved in a drug deal that went bad that resulted in the death of his friend. He has a laundry list of charges including manslaughter and is out on $400,000 bond and ordered not to be anywhere that kids congregate. Coach Kelly invited him to come to Sheridan and play for him while he wears an ankle monitor.

that'll go over like a turd in a punch bowl
The same people demanding everyone embrace your beliefs, have zero tolerance and condemn another for embracing theirs.  Oh, the irony.

One Quarter

Nothing like opening day of high school football season.

Now the only kicker, and the punter quit last week, so he's the busiest guy on the field.  He's making 60-yd FGs in practice now, touchbacks on almost every KO.  Punting for the first time ever has been an adventure for sure.  Some are great, some are 50 yards straight up for 10 yards forward.  Still only 15 years old, so he's got more upside.

BleedinRed

Can't wait to see him in a hog jersey until someone buys him from us after his freshman season.  Who are we kidding?  Most likely he will go straight to an Ohio State and just bypass us all together.

One Quarter

We may get lucky.  He's the biggest homebody I've ever met, and the UA is his first choice for now.

Has he gotten any recruiting letters? Or college coaches following him on social media?

A 15 year old nailing 60 yarders... That will get their attention, word will get around.

Now I'm wondering what kind of nil deals good kickers get? $50,000? $100,000?

You got 44 guys on offense and defense you have to pay for that area going to be more expensive than a kicker. That $30 million budgeted nil package starts getting spread thin after you pay a few studs.

College coaches can't directly initiate ordinary recruiting communication until after the player's sophomore year, and can't make off-campus personal contact until the junior year. But unofficially: yes.
