USF was in a wayyyyy worse spot than Memphis when Silverfield took over from Norvell.

Eh, true, but that whole "inherited a situation" dynamic is a bit less of a reality in the portal era where you overhaul the entire roaster every year.

Again, I'm not white knighting for RS or saying I fully support the hire, but I don't think this is the death knell for the program some are making it out to be. We hired a career OL coach who was making retirement plans, had zero clue what the hell he was going, and we still made a few bowl games. We'll be fine.

Ironically, if we'd have fired Pittman after 2023 or 2024 we'd have probably hired him, and he'd have been coming off 10+ win seasons and the read would probably be different.

I think it's a combo of Silverfield having a foot out the door and them playing good teams (UAB aside).

ECU, Navy, and Tulane finished with 8, 9, and 10 wins respectively. it's not like they were getting their doors blown off by scrubs.
