When did this become a thing? I have noticed a lot players with pants above the knees, but not like this.

It's all over the place now and seems to have really exploded this year.

I guess there's a sort of false sense of security with the rules pussification.

How is it that none of these kids have scabbed knees. In high school my knees had open abrasions (insert inevitable juvenile humor here) from August through November every season, and above-the-knee pants were not an option. In fact, the refs would issue a warning if players removed the pads from the knee pockets.

I learned a chemistry lesson the hard way after one rainy game where every player had second degree burns on their knees. Turns out some knucklehead used lime/quicklime to mark the field that night even though its use had been outlawed some years earlier. When mixed with water, quicklime forms calcium hydroxide which doesn't play nicely with human flesh.

The NCAA "doesn't want pants like this," but they aren't going to change the rules to give them any backbone.  And the coaches don't care.  This was a point of emphasis about 10 years ago.  We were told to send players off the field if their pants didn't cover their knees.  In my first game that year, we sent a player off at least every other play for the first half of the first quarter.  They would just come back in the next play (after sitting out one play).  We got together and decided that, if the coaches weren't going to make them fix it, we weren't going to police it.  Plus, why should the officials be the fashion police?

I really liked the way the old Arena league rules were in regards to pads.  The rule said something like, if pads are worn, they must be worn properly.  In other words, you didn't have to wear pads, but if you wanted to wear them, they had to worn properly.

He may be all that and a bag of chips, but he plays 3A football for a not great team. They're like 7-2 but they played the #7 team in the division and got beat 63-36 or something like that.

Because typically, there are only about 20-25 players total that are five stars. Weak QB class.

I have been watching some "Whatever happened to the top 5 QB recruits of 20??" vids lately.  A lot didn't end up doing much.  Maybe the raters finally figured out to throw the stars at other more predictable positions.  Like someone said, only 25 slots a year for 5 stars
