Brian Kelly had the best suggestion, "follow the Notre Dame model," all the major schools become independent in football. Schedule however you need to schedule for TV. Conferences stay for other sports, but not football. Letting football drive the car when USC now plays Maryland and there's no geography to it for the lacrosse or soccer teams, is just stupid.

It would be a disaster trying to coordinate with networks for TV rights though.

I'd rather have a football only conference and a conference for all the other sports.

Same difference I think -- the key idea being 12 games of high TV revenue football not making the decision that now USC plays Maryland in softball which makes no sense whatsoever.

agree but the conferences don't want to lose that tv money which is generated by football and the conference championship game.

conferences don't want to lose the power also. who would make the schedules under that scenario? most likely the ncaa who the power 5 are trying to neuter as quickly as they can.

and a lot of schools would find out just how valuable their brand really is trying to negotiate a tv deal on their own.  hint: not nearly as valuable, if at all, as being part of a power 5 conference.

Exactly. A true free for all would mean schools like Bama, Ohio State, and (spit) Texas clogging up the primetime slots. Schools that don't bring in as many eyeballs year after year (like us, honestly) would be hosting 11am kickoffs every week.

Aggies got slapped by the IRS.

The decision to shut down the NIL fund came after the IRS released a memo on June 9, which told NIL collectives their function doesn't fit within the confines of tax-exempt status.
