I'd trade Sam for Kiffin right now.  Kiffin hasn't failed there any more than Petrino failed here.  He has the consistently ranked in the Top 15, talked about in all the playoff chatter, and winning a lot.  It's just that the SEC is tough and you will lose some games.

Who makes the call when a player is pulled due to a potential head injury?  Is there a doctor that signals to the on-field officials?

There is a medical observer at every game in the replay booth.  If they see something where they think a player needs to be removed from the game, they will stop the game through the replay official.

My assumption was 15 players on the field would be so blatant you couldn't let the play run, especially when the defense is trying to end the game. 

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think there is any precedent for that.  I have a feeling, with all of the media this situation has been receiving, we will hear something in the next week about what to do if we have something like this in another game.

There is no illegal participation in NCAA football anymore.  If there are more than 11 on the field, it's just illegal substitution now.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct would be an easy call to stop the game.

Otherwise, not to be absurd, but the coach could just send the entire 100-man roster out on defense.  Theoretically, as long as it's intentional, there's not a difference between doing that and doing it with 12.

Got it.  Every time a player lines up on defense, looks at the sidelines, and then goes down with an "injury", there's a 1-in-4 chance that the Misery lady will walk out onto the field and break their leg with a sledgehammer.

If a team does it 3 times and gets away with it, there's no way anyone's going to do it again for the rest of the game.

Just make it a 15 yard dead ball penalty inside the last two minutes of the half.

Actually the ncaa has ruled that mandating 11 players is a racist construct and that any player wishing to participate may get on the field.

You might be able to stretch certain situations into "unfair acts" in the rule book (this would include a 15 yard penalty), but you would have to be 1000% sure the team was doing it to skirt the rules.  If I was to rule on this and had no real proof, there's a chance that would be my last football game.

It's a slippery slope for sure and I'm not sure this existing topic merits any knee jerk reaction. Perhaps a team offending in this way gets the business on some PIs or holds in the next game but I'm sure you are going to say that doesn't happen

I know what most fans think, but it doesn't happen.  I can't say it's never happened because someone will bring up Tim Donaghy's name.  But, in 30 years of officiating (23 at the college level), I've never heard anyone in officiating circles suggest anything but doing our best to make every call correct.  We are graded on each and every play and red marks on our grades can keep us out of bowl games, etc.  I know fans want to think officials are crooked, but some of the greatest men I've ever known have been football officials. 

I won't even mention how some of the ones y'all hate the most are the most honest, ethical, upstanding individuals I know.

They can give Tebow and extra yard and half on a spot or refuse to see the QB took a step and turned before spiking the ball, but they can't manage to see Ole Miss faking injuries when it has become so obvious as to be a national joke. lol

Interesting. Good to know. So you believe all the calls we bitch about being bad calls, they are just honest mistakes?

Well I know we toss around a lot of shit at officials. I know it's a hard job. I also know that some of these games tend to go down about how Vegas had them going and a lot of that got that way on all too convenient penalties called at critical moments in a game some of which could be called on nearly any play and others only ever get called on Arkansas.
