Looking ahead, if Arkansas ever has a good enough year to finish in the Top 12, strength of schedule will almost certainly be our best argument for getting in over someone from another conference.

Sounds like a great reason to leave the SEC in order to get more wins by playing an easier schedule.

This bracket is a train wreck that gets crazier the more you look.

Completely agree. I think the automatic bye's for weak conference champions probably plays the biggest role in this problem.

But, "just getting in" doesn't equal winning it all. If we ever get in, will that be enough? Or will we bitch because we don't win it all?
Well, shit...

That's why Indiana is in. They played one ranked team all year. And lost.

They also gave their coach a long term contract without beating a ranked team.

Arkansas would thrive under these conditions.

Just got done hearing the CFP Chairman rationalize SMU "played it close" and then followed that up with "we look at SOS"...no you don't. Otherwise you would have picked another SEC team over SMU. I understand though the more ON BRAND schools are going to have to take care of business or otherwise these others are going to get looks. Boise State looks competitive but who the fuck have they played and beaten to justify their ranking?

Show-Me Hog

It looks like no 3-loss teams got in?

That's as it should be. If you lose three games in a football season, you shouldn't be eligible to compete for the national championship.

That's not to say that SMU or Boise or Arizona State are all that. But a bright line between 2 and 3 losses seems sensible to me.

vegashog

sos should in include bad loses, right? what good is your strong schedule argument when 2 of your 3 loses are to .500 teams?

Hogfan58

Speaking of SOS, lets talk ND. They beat Aggie, Louisville, Army and Navy. No disrespect to Army and Navy, but that isn't exactly a stellar resume.
I need help and I know it.

The Whyte Boar

They should start the playoffs with conference matchups.  Have everybody go to a pod system like the SEC.  Four pods per conference with four winners.  First round is pod winners against other pod winner to decide championship game.  Then championship game.  Then conference winners against other conference winners.  If you want to have at large teams, throw them into a "wildcard pod" at the end of the year and have them play themselves in like conference winners.

That would do away with a lot of SOS talk by making all the teams have to win some games at the end of the year to get in or keep going in the playoffs.

On the flip side, someone in Alabama will make love to a family member today. So...evens out.

This.
The same people demanding everyone embrace your beliefs, have zero tolerance and condemn another for embracing theirs.  Oh, the irony.

Indiana and SMU also didn't lose to 2 6-6 teams.

What a load of horseshit. The brackets are horribly skewed. Every shit team is on Georgias side of the bracket.

This was all the ammo Sankey needed when they "revisit" the format after 2025. I fully expect him to reject the conference champs getting byes going forward, as he should.

I also don't see the SEC going to 9 conference games after all three "bubble" teams got left out despite SOS. There's absolutely no reason to give half the league another L if it's going to cost them playoff spots.

This is the problem of super conferences - there is no balanced schedule without divisions.

For everyone bitching about SMU or Indiana - look at Texas' schedule and who were their top 25 wins? Penn State?

Also why is all the talk about Top 25 wins and ignoring BAD LOSSES ?
Last week - Arkansas was a bad loss for Tennessee but a key win for Texas - WTF??

this is also why the SEC won't go to 9 conference games but will they if ESPN more cash at them? 9 games is gonna mean more 3 or 4 loss SEC teams.

The Big 10 and SEC only have themselves to blame for this.

Also don't see any coaches who are bitching about schedules willing to get a game with a Boise or SMU or the like.

it's embarrassing for an SEC team to have a UAPB, Mercer, Tennessee Tech on the schedule.

This is how crazy this year has been - Alabama was likely hurt more by a loss to Oklahoma then a loss to Vanderbilt - think about that!!! lol

#2 took 8 overtimes and SEC refs to beat GT!

The SEC before the last weekend had ONE nonconference win against a ranked opponent: UGAG over Clemson.  Then in the last weekend SC beat Clemson.  That was it.

I think Vandy, Auburn, us, Florida, and Kentucky all beat one of the bigtimers who are on the outside.  None of them beat anybody worth anything outside the conference either, but they are SEC so it just means more!

If the internal SEC circle jerk is going to determine who is in maybe they need to break off and create another level and compete amongst themselves.  I am kind of tired of dickriding the good teams in the conference like we are accomplishing something by existing.  We have no contribution to the conference being good.

Maybe Sankey needs his members to play somebody decent nonconference.
